The boyfriend and I have come back now and this was our 2nd time coming to Marshall Creek Ranch! We love how laid back it is and.of course, the horses! The first time we came last year, they gave me the shortest horse because I was the shortest rider there! I rode Ziggy, and I was already attached. He's so cute-- I am a big David Bowie fan, so I have nicknamed him,"Mr. Stardust" LOL The first time we came, it had been some years since I had ridden a horse, and the same for the boyfriend. We did the easy walking trail ride-- this year we did the intermediate trotting trail and I asked to ride Ziggy again-- what can I say, I love him.. Although we were initially nervous for reservation cancellations due to the rain and being pushed back a day, they still had great communication as to whether or not we'd be able to have our trail ride. The respond via text message-- so be aware that if you call, they might not answer. The only time they DO call is when you're booking the reservation. It had been raining on and off and so they said the first time they were checking our specific trail, was when we were actually on it. We didn't get to trot as much as I wanted, but it was a little squishy in some areas. The staff is friendly and even take your photo at the end! My thing is that it is very hard to hear them talk when you're on the trail ride. It would be beneficial for them to carry a microphone or something. read more

so first off, they had us ride the horses in circles in very hot weather for about 45 minutes straight -then they finally let us go to the forest. Throughout the ride you will be going very slow and will be in the forest for about an hour. They charge you $1 per water bottle and certain staff have terrible attitudes. My experience was terrible and to top it off one of the staff members spoke the entire ride and I wasn't able to enjoy the scenery. I will definitely not be coming back. read more

Yesterday was absolutely unforgettable! I checked off a lifelong bucket list item: riding a horse. Marshall Creek Ranch turned my dream into reality. We rode along serene trails and ended up beside a beautiful lake. We saw numerous deer that didn't even spook the horses. It was so peaceful hearing nature up close and personal. The ranch patiently provided us with training before taking us out. By far, the best time of my life! My family drove 2.5 hours to come ride horses for a horrible experience. We could have went to the other place. I thoroughly read the website during my research phase of planning our trip since my family is traveling. Over the phone I made the reservations and was asked about my child's skill level. He's been riding since 6 y/o, now 12. Everything was explained to me, even double explained and I said I understood. On our day of travel we stopped for lunch before heading to the ranch and was told to confirm we were still coming. I did confirm. I got a text saying that I did not confirm and my reservation could be released. I tried calling and no one answered as the VM said the horses were resting, but they insisted we text instead. Someone called me and I told them I would be there early and they said I could handle payment upon arrival. When we arrived I showed the girl at the desk my text confirmation went through on my side. She didn't even look up to acknowledge it. I took my money out and tried paying her and with my wad of money held out for her to take, she said sign these papers for the adults and the child. I had a very uncomfortable feeling FOR SURE at this point. I would've left if it weren't for my child. There was another group with kids so the other lady called them over to be fitted for helmets. My child went back on his own and told them his needed to be adjusted because the fit wasn't right. We went to the restroom and while I was in there, I heard the same rude lady asking my child if he had been on horses before. He said yes. She asked, "How many times" and then asked "Had he trotted before". I couldn't believe she was saying anything to him. She waited until I was away from him and came way across the building to ask A CHILD! He confirmed everything I already confirmed as the adult responsible. When I came out of the restroom I was refused service and told I couldn't get my money back, but that I could call the owner another day and ask. I said the police will be here if I am not given the money back I just gave you. She said she had to "step outside" to call the owner which she also said when I first arrived and tried to pay her as if something was wrong with us, but I didn't think anything of it at the time. Needless to say, I left with my money and we didn't get to ride horses. We wasted time on our trip and money going there. The lady said he has never had lessons with them so he couldn't go on the ride. That is not on their website. It is open for anyone to sign up and the different levels are explained. We are too advanced to go on most rides when we travel so we sign up for intermediate. It wasn't even the experienced level. I believe she took one look at us and prejudged us as if we cant have experience with horses as well. Just to mention, the other children in the group were not asked these questions upon arrival or pulled to the side to get more info when their parents were around. We camp, fish, and ride horses on a regular basis. I'm disgusted at how we were treated, just post a sign saying you discriminate off the basis of your own prejudice, it would've saved us a lot of time. read more

The views were gorgeous and such a fun and relaxing experience. We booked a group ride 12/27/2021 and thoroughly enjoyed a 90 minute adventure along the shores of beautiful Lake Grapevine. Our chaperones (the staff at Marshall Creek Ranch) did a great job of coaching, guiding and encouraging us along the way. We loved it! This is a true Texas experience and a terrific way to pursue some out of the ordinary team bonding. I thought the trail ride was beautiful and the horses were really calm! I love that there are beginner intermediate and advanced levels to choose from. Definitely makes the trail ride more exciting to be able to do more than a walk and/or trot. Though the trot was plenty for me! Haha!! The trail was the perfect length and time and we were able to see some pretty cool wildlife! The guides were great and helpful too. I loved it and loved the horses. My best friend and I took her 3 kids and my two nieces horseback riding for her daughter and my oldest nieces birthdays. We had 9 people total. I loved this place. As a lifelong rider and horse owner, let me say that I was impressed with the condition of these horses. Most dude ranch horses are overworked and underfed. These horses were neither. They had a good range of horses for all levels of riders: I got a feisty little mare, and my non-horsey boyfriend (I'm working on it) got a sweet, tamer gelding that still had plenty of life. The wranglers lined us up before the ride and handed out loaner gloves and ear warmers to anyone who needed/wanted them -- very thoughtful, and not something most dude ranches would do. The ride took us through some beautiful woods and along the shores of Lake Grapevine. I think it'd be a great thing to do with friends visiting Texas. Very stereotypically Texan. haha. To address Steve W.'s comment, let me say this: a woman fell off during our ride too, and it was because she screamed when the horse started trotting, which spooked the horse, and so the horse jumped forward and she fell off. Big surprise. Horses are prey animals; they're instinctively always on the alert for predators. Sudden, loud noises (or even some weird-looking bush) can scare them. If you're going to get on a horse, you should recognize that there is NO guarantee you won't fall off. Generally, dude ranch horses are selected for being fairly safe and non-spooky. But accidents still happen, because they're ANIMALS. That said, WEAR A HELMET WHEN YOU RIDE, ALWAYS. NO EXCEPTIONS. The best riders in the world ALWAYS wear a helmet. There is NO shame in wearing a helmet. It's the smart thing to do. read more

If I lived closer, I would be a frequent guest. The people are so friendly and helpful. The horses were great too. If you're doing a 2 hour trail ride, make sure to plan to be there longer because it takes awhile to get everyone on the horses. We were supposed to head out at 2pm, but someone(customer) was late, so we were waiting for them to show up. They also had a late reservation and more horses had to be saddled up. Very nice horseback riding trail. The trail goes through the woods and by the lake. The riders can view some wild life on the trail. The evening trail is probably better than the morning trail. Originally, I scheduled riding at 11:00 am on Thursday and 10:30 pm on Wednesday I got text message to cancel the next day and asked me on Saturday at 3:00 Is it possible? I said yes. I put on my new cowboy boots and cowboy hat and drove for 45 minutes, and when I got here, no one in the ranch and the gate was locked. I waited 15 minutes to call The ranch . I heard a message saying that the ride was canceled today because of the wind. They've texted everyone today. But I didn't get the text message. Is it because I switched from thursday to today they missed it. I am so disappointed. I pushed everything else off for the entire Saturday for this event. As a result, no one notified me. Absolute blast! Ride was long, we got to trot on the intermediate trail, and as it got dark there were fireflies EVERYWHERE! Haven't seen them in years due to all the pesticides so what a treat. I rode Apache who was described as the horse with A.D.D. and yeah we went off road and rubbed up against a few trees but its an animal and they are anything but predictable so I didn't mind. We saw some deer and a coppperhead which the lead horse stepped on. The staff was very friendly the entire time. Cant beat this for $50. When the kids get older we are bringing them back.
