The great experience at Lakeside Bicycles continues. After receiving a call from Mark, whom I had placed my bike order through, that my new bike was all assembled and ready to be picked up; I stopped in as soon as I could to test ride and take it home. Lakeside doesn't keep all of Giant's line in stock, but they can order them in for you. Based on reading / watching many glowing reviews for the Defy endurance bikes, I had Mark order up a 2025 Advanced 0 model for me -- comes with carbon frame, components, and wheels, as well as Shimano 105 Di2 electronic shifting drivetrain (along with 11-36t cassette for hill climbing). Mark was amazing throughout my purchase experience. He installed my pedals for me, adjusted the seat height and tire pressure, and showed me how to use the electronic shifting. After a quick test ride around the area, there seemed to be some front derailleur noise, so they made some quick adjustments to keep the chain from rubbing. I was able to take the Defy for a 20 mile ride last night, and I'm really enjoying the smooth ride of the carbon frame (coming from an aluminum frame gravel bike with road tires). I plan to bring it to Lakeside every off-season for a tune-up, and also hope to have an actual bike fit done, too. In this age of ordering everything online, I highly recommend purchasing a bike from an actual brick & mortar store with some customer service. I'm very happy with my Lakeside experience! read more

I grew up in the Atlanta area, raced bikes in my teens, and generally hung around bikes shops there in the 70s and 80s. Back then, good bike shops were relaxed, friendly, supportive places with a sense of community based on our love of bikes and riding. I moved to Oregon back in 1994, in my mid 30s, and never made a connection at any of bike shops here. They all seemed kind of impersonal and mostly interested in your wallet. When COVID hit, I started working from home permanently which gave me the time to really get back into cycling. When I decided to get my first new bike in about 25 years, I was lucky to find Gordon, Zak, Tom, Bre, and company at Lakeside Bikes. It felt like I was coming home again. They love bikes, are real experts, and have been super helpful and friendly. Bikes have changed a lot since the mid-1990s and I missed all of it. Gordon and company answer all my dumb questions without making me feel like a noob or a pest. I'm buying my second Pinarello in two years from them now, and they've gone above and beyond as always even though I'm buying one of their least expensive bikes. And it's not just me either. I've seen how well they treat other customers with service needs. I send all my friends with their bike needs to them, and I whole heartedly recommend them to everyone who's reading this. read more

I don't know where any of these 1 star reviews are coming from but I had an amazing experience today. I had a mishap with my Kuat bike rack driving across the pass from Bend yesterday resulting in severe damage to my Cush core tubeless tire and front wheel. Not only were my tire and wheel ruined but my Labor Day weekend activities were also drastically cut short. I brought my bike in the back and Todd immediately helped me with what I needed. Although they didn't have my tubeless tire system nor the width of my tire, Todd helped me to find the next best alternative. He was very helpful and even vowed to stay a few hours after work in order to make sure that I have the bike by opening of the store tomorrow. As I stated before, I did not experience any issues with customer service today. I was immediately helped when I walked in. I bought the bike there a few months ago and I will always work with them In the future to make sure that I get the bike that I want going forward. read more

During COVID-19, I needed a change of scenery and drove to Portland but didn't bring my bike. I searched around for a rental and was told that "no one is renting bikes right now" by one of the other shops. I called Lakeside anyway and not only were they renting bikes, they had a much better price ($50/day vs. $150/day) for a full suspension mountain bike. Their service was great, and Amy in particular was fantastic. She took my measurements over the phone and the bike was setup when I got there. I ended up renting the bike for three days and they applied that to the purchase of a new bike. Great service and great prices - so happy I found this shop! read more

Well I called Lakeside Bicycles and their nearby competition and was quoted a repair and tuneup about $25 less with a done by date of Saturday. Dropped bike off and "oopsie" the quote did not include the repair as indicated so suddenly my discount wasn't so good. Called Friday to see if done early--nope but will be Saturday. Called Saturday--still nope. They admitted my quote says due today so he said by end of day for sure they'd call me. End of day no call. I called Sunday they said I don't know what to tell ya it was supposed to be done yesterday. Sorry. At 4:30 pm Sunday they call to say it's done and they close at 5 so now it's my fire drill to get there or wait another day. SO FRUSTRATING! Did they explain what happened when I got there? NO. Did they offer to honor the original quote (I mentioned the problem in each phone call)? NO. Did they discount anything for making me miss a Sunday ride because they didn't deliver? NO. Will I go back? ***NO*** I'd rather pay more and get what I pay for rather than get low-balled on the phone, up-charged in person, and unapologetically stuck with lack of delivery. Re the phone quote I think it may have been a mistake not a trick but after failure to deliver they could've at least tried to make it right and I'd have a different review here praising the doing what you can to make a first time (& now last time) customer experience right. Lastly I need to say they all seem to be really nice guys. It seems like a nice store. But after misquoting and then repeatedly being told a delivery date they'd silently miss--AND do NOTHING ABOUT IT--I just can't recommend them unless there's a business practice adjustment. read more

i stopped in today to ask for help with repairing my mobility scooter. Gordon was very welcoming and carried it into the store for me. He and his mechanic got to work right away and not only fixed everything I asked for but tuned the brakes as well. Then Gordon carried the much-improved scooter back to my car. My wife and I recently had a logistics issue re our bicycle helmets being unavailable. She phoned Lakeside to ask about renting helmets and spoke with Gordon. He told her they could not rent helmets but could loan us each a helmet for use the next day. We went to the store and found he had already put two aside for us. Wow. I am visiting from San Diego and wanted to take a look at a local bike shop. I've never been to Lake Oswego or Oregon. Looking at moving here but might change my mind after visiting the shop. I was greeted by a long gray haired fellow behind the bike shop. He didn't say hello just asked me what I wanted and then asked me am I here for the Cervelo. Had no idea what he was talking about but he just became ruder and more belligerent. I was looking for some gloves but never made it into the shop. I am guessing he is a bike mechanic by the attitude. I think we're all tired of the rude standoffish attitude that some mechanics of had over the years. In this competitive environment I would think the owners would shut kind of behavior down. A friend has mentioned to me that the owner of the shop is a very professional kind individual. Twice now these guys at Lakeside have saved me time and money. They did tune-ups on my kids' bikes for much less than a neighboring bike shop was going to charge. They understood that charging $60 to tune a bike that cot $80 is insane. They did the work quickly, too. The second time they proved themselves was when I needed an estimate to fix an annoying gear problem on a kid's mountain bike. One place wanted a lot of money and 2 weeks to fix (which is like 100 years to a kid). Lakeside's bike maestro put it on a rack, tweaked a part and that was it - fixed in 60 seconds flat, with a total repair bill of $0. Can't beat that! read more

Who woulda thunk I'd meet a bike shop owner on Facebook about the same time I'm in need of a new pair of shoes, pedals and tires for my fancy carbon road bike. I'm the kinda guy who wears a pair of bike shoes for close to 20 years before considering new ones. I've had Carnac and then Giro. Both served me extraordinarily well. But, when I asked Gordon if he'd help me with my need, he not only introduced me to another great shoe (Sidi), but also the perfect cleat/pedal for me (Shimano Ultegra), AND, he provided extraordinary service in the face of this COVID virus situation. He made sure the shoes were the perfect size, then ordered the perfect model from Sidi, that was not in stock at the time. When they arrived, he installed the cleats and pedals PERFECTLY. When I got home, I jumped on my bike for my usual ride. To my amazement, I could feel the difference immediately. My feet were instantly happier. No more pressure under foot from the old SPD system. Then, as I begin the climb up to Fairmont Blvd, I discover I'm in a higher gear than usual, and still with less effort. These new shoes/pedals instantly had me pulling 1-2 gears higher with the usual effort. The difference in comfort and efficiency is comparable to when I switched from a steel to a carbon frame bike. I was riding my bike on a Wednesday after work and my rear derailleur cable broke. I called Lakeside to see if I could bring it in and get it fixed quickly, as I planned to ride on Friday. I knew they would be slammed due to Covid-19, which they were. They told me to drop it off and they would try to squeeze it in on Thursday, but likely it would be Friday before they could get to it. I got a call at 1 PM on Thursday that it was ready! Got a great ride in on Friday and it shifts like a champ. read more

We had a wonderful experience at Lakeside Bicycles this past weekend. We brought in a wheel, from our son's bike, for repair. We left with a fixed wheel and a new bike for myself. I have been searching for a bike for a couple of months now. Inventory is non existent within a 50-mile radius. I asked Jacques if they had a woman's medium mountain bike in stock. It just so happened that two came in on Friday and were both spoken for, but one of the bikes became available after someone backed out that morning. I asked to see it and it was exactly what I was looking for. Jacques was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Fantastic experience all around! read more

Terrible customer service from the owner down. I was looking to have a press fit bottom bracket installed in a bike I'm rebuilding. I looked at the prices listed on lakeside-bikes.com and saw that a "Crankset and Bottom bracket install" was $10. Seemed very reasonable since it's only a 5 minute job. Dropped off my bare frame, BB and crank at Lakeside and they called me later that day to come pick it up. They rang me up for $40 so I mentioned that the website said it would only be $10. Amy, the woman running the register immediately got irritated and said "the website is out of date and we're redoing it so I wouldn't go by that" - I attempted to explain that as a business you're responsible for accurate marketing and price quotes, etc... she didn't seem to understand the importance of customer service and would not let me have my bike until I paid the full $40 (4 times the amount I was expecting to pay!). She told me to email info@lakeside-bikes.com if I wanted to discuss with the owner. I did end up emailing my experience only to receive several rude replies from the owner, Gordon Haber. Talking down to me like I didn't know anything about bicycles and tried to convince me that installing my bottom bracket was a 45 minute job!! That made me laugh a lot. But it was very condescending and insulting to be treated like an idiot. Clearly this shop does not care AT ALL about their customers. Only here in prime Lake O spot to take people's money. Sad because it's close to me and I could use a LBS every now and then. Guess I'll have to keep traveling further out. read more

As a lifelong cyclist I would not recommend anyone go to Lakeside Bicycles. After giving them hundreds of dollars in service for maintenance and upgrades, I deeply regret ever taking my bikes there. First let me say that I have two rather expensive Pinarello's that together cost 6 times as much as my car. So I can be a little particular about their care. Price aside, I honestly love to ride and live to ride. The first time I took one of my bikes there, the bike came back to me in bad shape. The handle bar was crooked, the groupset was not on properly, and the bike was not tuned. After taking my new Dogma out for its first ride ever, the chain came off and damaged my carbon frame. Having patience for these types of things I only asked for the issues to be resolved. But they were not resolved. After one of the mechanics there stripped one of the screws connecting my seat to my frame, I naturally became concerned. Another mechanic explained that he had experience drilling out screws from carbon frames, and that he would be the person for the job. The mechanic told me that he himself would do the work required to get the job done correctly. Sadly this would never happen. The management here are rude and disrespectful. They lack the ability to think outside the box and truly have no empathy or commonsense. I was told that I could not request a particular mechanic and the phone was hung-up on me. So I waited several months and tried again. I made an appointment with a mechanic who explained the person I requested could do the job. After speaking with management I was called back and told "Under no uncertain terms can you request a person to do a job". Done. This is not a business that we should have in our community, and hopefully others will see this honest review and go elsewhere. Collectively we should demand better and hold others accountable for misleading or betraying our trust. I truly regret trusting them so I take that upon myself. Perhaps others will take my advice and find another bike shop. If you care about integrity do not go to Lakeside Bicycles. read more

I called asking about a bike tire I needed a tube for. Tom, a very friendly gentleman gave me a quote and said he hopes to see me soon. I went in and was impressed with the cleanliness of the store. It was well organized and was like a museum of bikes. Beautiful, shiny bikes were all lined up. Although I wasn't there to buy a bike, or even look at bikes I was drawn to them. Tom fixed the tire and was so very friendly through the entire experience. It wasn't even a creepy fake friendly, but a warm your heart, contagious kind of friendly. The Quest for the ultimate bicycle part 1. I'm really glad I checked this place out. It had a reputation for less than helpful employees, but they had a few bicycles I saw on their website I really wanted to check out, so I decided to give them a shot and go in with my friendliest attitude. I'm really glad I did because I had a great experience here. This shop is probably a little on the higher end with more emphasis on the performance and racing bikes, but I saw a few models here that were more than reasonable, and they will work with you to order what you need. Some of the models they feature are the Pinnarellos, Bianchis and Cannondales. Some of the bikes I looked at here were older models, so this may be an additional way to save some $$$. I also loved this shop because it had four bicycles in my size. (I am one of the smallest sizes out there). So this was awesome. If you are a petite female, I highly recommend that you add this shop to your list. I was assisted by Joe who patiently attached pedals and adjusted the seats on four of their bicycles so I could test ride them. He also pointed out a nice quiet area nearby where I could test ride the bicycles and check out some hills. This was really appreciated and rare as I found out with some other places I visited. He offered some feedback on each bike, gave me a crash course on Sram componentry and was Johnny on the spot in general. My boyfriend and I also enjoyed conversing with one of the mechanics who was working there too. As with most shops in the area, they offer a nice selection of cycling gear, clothes, shoes, etc. I also noticed a good deal of thank you letters from various charities thanking them for their bike donations which I thought was cool. I found a great bike here that was definitely a top contender and when I told Joe I needed some time to think about it and asked for a card, he advised he didn't work on commission, so to feel free to come in and anyone could help me if I had more questions. Definitely low pressure which I appreciate when I am making a big purchase. I didn't end up getting my bike here, but I wouldn't hesitate to send anyone here to be assisted by these friendly folks and if I ever find myself with a sudden windfall of cash, I may be in to peruse some of their fancier bikes. read more

What makes a bike rider into a cyclist? Saddle time, miles and enthusiasm. With a great bike that is perfectly suited for you, the time and miles are easier, more comfortable and more fun; and the enthusiasm will grow on its own! Portland is obviously bike-crazy, but finding a shop that brings together a great collection of bikes, bike gear and apparel, and more importantly the skills and knowledge to match you with the best for your budget is more rare is tougher than you might think. If Lakeside is not clearly the best bike shop in the area, I am certain there is no better. And I have shopped them all. Take bike fit, for example. Getting it right is about sixty percent science and forty percent art. And really small changes in saddle height or handlebar width or brake/shifter position or any number of variables can make a huge difference in comfort, power and efficiency. I recently bought a pair of winter bike shoes at Lakeside. In mounting the cleats, Robert (bike fit expert at Lakeside) recommended a small but significant change in what I thought was the right cleat position. I went in looking for a tool. I've dealt with the guy at the counter before and he's always been very helpful. He brought me back and I had some questions about the tool and how it operated and so on. The mechanic, who may be the owner, gave me a weird, "you're wasting my time" vibe right away. As I'm asking questions to both men, the mechanic is huffing and puffing and giving me smart-ass comments about legitimate questions. He huffily dropped a sheet of paper with a parts list in front of me and semi-stormed off. I know, dude, you're the bike mechanic and you're smarter than me. I asked the counter guy if the other guy was all right or if I somehow did something to offend him. There wasn't much of an answer so I asked the mechanic if I had done something to offend him. More attitude. I set the tool down and told them that I was leaving and would probably not be going to their shop anymore. More attitude. Some weird back and forth. Then I said, (we were in the back of the shop and the only three people in the building) "What's you're fucking problem, man, I just had some questions about a tool I wanted to buy and you've been weird the entire time." Dude lost it. Followed me out of the shop, telling-yelling at me to never come back again. Strangest bike shop experience ever. read more

If you have Campagnolo that needs servicing then ask for Bre! She is hands down the most thorough mechanic I have ever had the pleasure of meeting with an extensive knowledge of all things campy. She took the time to explain exactly what was wrong with my setup, showed the specific campy tools she was using to fix said problem and then dialed it in for me. After fine tuning and test riding it she let me ride it and fine tuned it even more for me --and all on the fly! It is now working exactly how campagnolo should be. Perfectly and precise. I was out on a ride 10 days ago & had difficulty shifting out of my middle ring in the front. I wheeled in to Lakeside & asked if they could adjust it. He did have to use a screwdriver. When I asked how much, he said $20!!! That is actually the 1st time a bike shop has ever charged me for such an adjustment, but I thought probably $10 would be reasonable. I'm quite sure that is the last $20 Lakeside Bicycle Shop will ever get from me. OH, Bike Gallery is right up the street,( and they have never charged me for a derailleur adjustment.) read more
