I've been a patient of Lakeside Dental for several years. Dr. Century actually knows my previous dentist through their dental fraternity, so I knew I was getting a continued excellent standard of care. What I got was even greater; an escalation. Lakeside's x-rays are digital, which means they expose us, the patients, to far less radiation than a traditional x-ray. While important for adults, this is also particularly important for children. Should you require a procedure that involves more than a cleaning, they have video glasses, and a large library of movies that you can use to pass the time and distract you. I only used them once, for a tooth whitening, but it was far more pleasant than twiddling my thumbs for an hour. If you don't finish the movie, they'll even let you take it home, so long as you return it in a timely fashion. Lakeside is a preventative practice. They have a device (can't remember the name) that can scan your teeth for microfractures, and put it up on the screen so you can see it yourself. This lets them get the jump on a problem, when it's treatable by fluoride, or at least a less-invasive, painful, and expensive procedure. Again, I haven't needed anything from it, but it was cool to watch. They also have a therapy dog, Nano, that can sit quietly in the lap of nervous children (or adults) during exams. It's not just flash; Dr. Century does top-notch work. I've got several friends who have seen her for complex surgeries, crowns, etc. They even have a milling machine that can creates the crowns within an hour on-site, so you don't have to come back for an additional visit. With digital records, it's easy for them to track progress of problems over the course of several years, so you can see when it's time to do something, or when you're close to getting that perfect gum exam. Sadly, I haven't yet. Someday, I hope. My last visit was on a Saturday, and I saw Dr. Wolf. She had a relaxing nature about her, and I would trust her to do anything my teeth required as well. Outside of specialties, I've had 4 dentists in 50+ years, but have been with Lakeside long enough to know that they are top-notch. Dr. Century is a pioneer in the use of lasers, and over my time with the practice, has been flown to give seminars on the use of lasers to other dentists. Dr. Century is a rock-star; very well-known in her field. Oh, I almost forgot. Every visit includes topical fluoride at the end. No other dentist ever offered that, at least not without what would have been an extra fee. Lakeside costs me a few dollars less than my last dentist for an exam and cleaning to boot. I suspect that the vast number of 5-star reviews that appear hidden on this page do so because people have only a review or two of short length, and no real history on Yelp. While I can appreciate that Yelp is erring toward the side of caution, especially given some recent bad press with paid-for reviews, I think that, in the case of this business, you can be a bit less dubious. I found I get as much detail as anyone could want on my options, and as much time as anyone could need from any of the staff. If they run late, which they rarely do, they give you a gift card for lunch as an apology. They are a medical practice that stresses customer service. I've referred people to Lakeside, and will continue to do so. I drive there from Glenview, which is kind of a haul, and would still visit them if they were twice as far. read more

OMG!!!! This was the BEST dental experience I have EVER had!!! I went in for my first visit as a new patient with tooth pain. The tooth could not be saved and needed to be extracted. It was honestly painless. They made me and my comfort their first priority. Everyone in the office was so very genuinely nice and caring. I can't say enough good things about Lakeside Dental. And to be honest, I'm not really a dog person but that warm pup on my lap really is an added comfort. They scheduled me very quickly for my follow up. New to the area, i received a flyer for Lakeside, and called for a new patient cleaning and exam.  I gave my insurance provider and was told on the phone that they could process my claims for me and I would get reimbursed. I said I do not want to pay out of pocket because my insurance company has always reimbursed the dentist office. The person said "okay" they would do that.   At the appointment, the person who did my cleaning (I think her name was Anna) was great, she was very knowledgeable and very considerate of my comfort level; I felt like had found a good place with her, and she is the only reason i am giving the place two stars.  The dentist came in next and gave a spiel that felt sort of like a sales pitch, comparing my mouth to a house. We talked about past dental regime and insurance coverage. I explained that I have cleanings every three months but alternate between a regular dentist and a perio dentist and my last cleaning was perio. On the subject of insurance coverage I mentioned that I think my regular dentist uses a different code than my periodontist.  Her response was "that is illegal" and I was a little taken back by her quickness to make that accusation because I am pretty sure this is a common practice and quite confident that my prior dentist and periodontist were not doing something illegal. Plus I have been following this regime for approx 10 years with no issues.  When leaving the office, the person I spoke with to make the appointment asked for payment. I reminded him of the conversation we had prior and he agreed again that they would bill my insurance, not me, but asked for credit card just to have on file in case there were charges that wouldn't be covered.  I had an uneasy feeling about providing this, since I never had out of pocket expenses for preventative maintenance, but he assured me that they would talk to me before ever charging my card.   A week later a charge of almost $300 showed up on my card. I called to see why and now he said they are not in my insurance's network so they wouldn't be able to process my claim any other way (he had knowledge of this prior to my appointment so I am not sure why he would tell me something completely different before), He also said he left me a message about the charge to my card but the only message I received is one asking for DOB which I gave to them both in the office and when calling back. He said he called my insurance company on the other line and verified I would be receiving a check from my insurance by the end of the week which is tomorrow.  I called my insurance to verify this and found that this was totally not the case,  It would be 2 weeks from the date of the claim (submitted 3 days ago) and it was likely that the claim would not be paid because they billed as a perio cleaning which would not be covered since my last cleaning was perio.  At no point did I ask for or was told this would be a perio cleaning. So I called Lakeside back wanting to know how there was so much confusion. He looked up the notes in my file and read what the dentist wrote and my jaw just dropped.  It said that "I asked her to file the claim with different codes so insurance would approve it", and that "she told me that this practice was illegal".  I was so shocked by what I was hearing that I asked the person to repeat the notes. Having someone accuse me of wanting to commit insurance fraud in my file which would have gone unknown had this incident not happened was totally mind-blowing to me. I want to believe that everything was a misunderstanding because I can't imagine a dental office lying about the billing process and accuse me of insurance fraud but its really hard to considering how many things went wrong with this experience. I highly recommend avoiding this place and I hate to say that because the dental hygienist who IMO is the person who does all the work (even the dentist herself agreed) was really good. read more

I have only ever been to this dentist and will continue that into the future. I trust all of the staff to treat me well, do good work, and because I've been going there so long they treat me like family. Dr. Century has always been ahead of the field in regards to technology and what she offers - from a jaw CT, Botox for migraines, the best and newest innovations and precarious for normal cleanings. Especially now, with the current coronavirus crisis, she shut down immediately when she didn't have the supplies to keep her staff and patients safe. She now has just opened up again and has implemented numerous safety precautions for you as a patient and especially for her staff. And even with all this, their attitude and quality of work has not faltered. I would recommend Dr. Century and her staff to absolutely anyone! I'm not a great fan of the nice doctor. I somehow got the impression that payment was the motivating factor is this practice. Its always "pay at the time of the service" and they won't wait for the insurance check. I see the glowing reviews that she has and I wonder to myself if all of her patients were really that happy with her services. But in her defense, Howard always gives you and your kids a trinket with all paid services! I think you can do much better! read more

I had a lot of negative experience with different dental professionals this past year and then I found Dr. Century. She absolutely "cares" about her patients. That is so hard to find these days. She treats you as a person, not a "set of teeth", from which a lot of money can be made. I would call her work conservative, as I believe she corrects a tooth when required, not a tooth that could "use" some work. She explains everything very well and includes you in her decision-making. I've been going to Lakeside Dental with Dr. Century (and recently Dr. Wolff) for 4 years [about 6 visits...I know I missed a couple :) ] She is by far the best dentist I have ever been to. Yes, they are slightly more expensive and charge above "standard rates," but they are clearly an above standard practice also. They have the latest and most advanced technology, which I'm sure are not cheap. Additionally, I have never had to wait past my appointment time. In fact, I typically arrive 5-10 minutes early and they are always ready to see me right away. So this might not be the best place to go if you are super price sensitive, but if you are willing to pay for exceptional service and dental care, then Lakeside Dental is for you. For those who are concerned about price, you also need to think about the long-term.I believe in the long run the $100 extra per year is more than worth it the extra value you get. For example, I have been a heavy teeth grinder for 10+ years and seen 4 different dentists in that time, Dr. Century was the ONLY dentist to ask about my teeth grinding and strongly urge me to get a night mouth guard. Unfortunately damage has already been done, but at least I can help to prevent future damage. Without my nighttime mouth guard, I'm sure I wold require much more dental work. My point is that Dr. Century cares about your teeth and helping you to care for them. I care about my teeth, and I plan (hope) to have them for a long time! I also LOVE that they have started seeing people on a limited basis on Fridays/Saturdays. I completely understand and appreciate that Dr. Century really cares for her staff and allowing them to have a life outside of work, but I'm also really glad they were able to offer these additional times for those who cannot make it in on a Mon-Thurs. Since I travel each week during those days, I did end up missing getting scheduled for a couple of regular check-ups. I think the office has found a nice balance now. read more

I am so grateful and happy I was referred to Dr Century and her phenomenal staff after my dentist relocated out of state. This office is SO professional and on top of safety practices on a level I have never experienced. The oral exam and cleaning were extremely thorough and PAINLESS, the diagnostics more detailed than any I've ever had, and the amount of time and explanation that Dr. Century and her staff took with me was complete and unhurried . Due to some complications with a filling and me and the new dentist's personality not meshing I have returned to her. I generally distrust "doctors." I find most doctors too busy and too intelligent to listen to what a patient has to say. Dr Century took her time to explain my options and really listened to me. I really appreciated her referral and her stating that she had expertise in almost everything I needed to have done but that I should see a specialist for one particular part of my care. She is not in my network but I didn't and don't care. Insurance is a joke. I hate all of the politics. I went to a dentist that my friend recommended and I couldn't be happier. Yes, I had to pay out of pocket up front but my insurance reimbursed me for a substantial part of my bill. Bottom line, I would rather be confident and comfortable at my dentist than be "in network" and save a few dollars. I had a few cavities that needed fillings. The last tooth wouldn't go numb. She made sure that I was comfortable and was patient while my stubborn tooth finally numbed up. I have gotten a "just suck it up attitude" from dentists in the past. Drilling into my tooth while I can still feel it isn't an option for me. Can't thank Dr. Century enough for listening. The lady that cleaned my teeth was awesome and I finally have a dental office that I trust. Tooth pain is miserable, glad to have a great dentist I can turn to. P.s. I haven't ever been to a dentist that seemed to stay current on technology and new techniques. Didn't know half of the technology that was in my mouth existed. They dumped our family of 4 after I left my corporate job with insurance. We are self employed and no longer carry dental insurance. We have the financial means to pay in full at each visit. We simple wanted 'adult' cleanings without x-rays from time to time, and no fluoride treatments for our 2 children. The office sent us a letter dumping our family without even calling or meeting us to discuss. We were taken-a-back, as we had a nice relationship with Dr. Century. Very inconsiderate after over 10 years of loyalty and money provided over the years. Sad... they are clearly only about the money and generating big revenue through insurance. read more
