Fantastic Doctor, Absolute Administrative Disaster I am writing this with a heavy heart because Dr. Maplethorpe is genuinely one of the kindest and most attentive physicians I have ever encountered. However, the office operations at Lakeside Family Physicians are so incompetent that I would never recommend this practice. I spent five months trying to get a simple new patient visit claim processed. The office staff repeatedly attempted to file with the wrong insurance provider. Despite my efforts to correct them, they were incredibly unhelpful and provided zero updates. Ultimately, I had to coordinate with my insurance company's care team to resolve the issue myself because the office staff could and seemingly, would not handle it. Furthermore, their communication is abysmal. They canceled an appointment without calling to confirm or even leaving a voicemail--we only found out when we got to the office and were met by a barking dog in the lobby filled and Maggie telling us it had been canceled. I have genuinely nothing nice to say about the office manager, Maggie. Her lack of aptitude forced me to do her job for her by coordinating with my own insurance care team to get this matter pushed through and finalized. It is a disservice to Dr. Maplethorpe to have the administrative team "running" the business side of the practice so abysmally. If you choose to see Dr. Maplethorpe, tread carefully and make sure to comb through your records with a fine tooth comb; the front office simply cannot be trusted to follow through. read more

We've been registered at Lakeside since 2005 and have run out of patience. The Doctors are great... I cannot recommend Dr. Farrell enough but the practice management is now beyond a joke. Since the relocation to Issaquah communication is abysmal. We've had multiple issues getting a return call and the patient portal is run like an instant messaging app. This past Monday we could not access the portal from their website so I called as I needed to see Dr. Farrell somewhat urgently. I left a message, pressed # as advised and told them the portal was not connecting. Two days have passed and nothing - this is not the first time and the experience pre-dates COVID - we're out of excuses. They were once a great family practice with solid communication - not anymore. read more

I was looking for a new doctor as mine moved. After some research and one referral, I was excited to find this office. UNITIL.......... I called today and was so displeased by the receptionist that I could not bring myself to make an appointment. I was so upset that I came here to Yelp to voice my frustration. I quickly scrolled through the reviews and saw that I am certainly not the only person who has had a run in with this lady. I write very few negative reviews as I realize that people are human... but this lady made me feel like all she cared about is my insurance and if I can pay. I thought I would give this office one more shot. I brought them 2 new clients. This office is the most unorganized medical practice I have been too. First off the moment we walk in we have to pay our co-pay, yet we get bills saying we own a co-pay? How is that possible when they make damn sure they get paid before you are even seen! Plus I have my receipts showing I paid!! Looking for a friendly staff? Well it is hit or miss. Some days they are super nice and others they are rude and you feel like just leaving. Also getting in to see my normal doctor is like pulling teeth. So I switch to Dr. Farrell Biggest thing that made me mad is my mother is 74 years old and lives on a social security check of $400 a month. She has full medical coverage yet they bill her for $54.00. Stating she has co-pays when she doesn't. I am finally done referring people and driving an hour or longer out of my way to go to a medical practice that causes me stress and work! It is not my job to do their job! Also, getting a call back, or a script filled or results on tests FORGET ABOUT IT! I think if the doctors did everything the place would be great! I found a new doctor closer to home and a very friendly and professional staff. The doctor wasn't taking new patients but he did for me. I am officially done with Lakeside Family Physicans. I wanted to give another update. Once I change insurance I'll most likely be switching doctors. Even though Dr. Farrell is a great doctor and has done a lot to help me, their front desk staff is awful and shady. Just got a bill from them that was never even sent to insurance for $300. It gives dates where I did not even go to the doctor and lists treatment I never had. They've been harassing me about this bill, and resending it for a month now. I have told them I never received any such treatment. They refuse to give me an itemized amount regarding what this $300 is even for. On top of that, they're still harassing me about that $50 for a "missed appointment" even though I called and cancelled ahead of time and they said I wouldn't be charged. I don't like them. I don't like that when I set up appointments I show up and the place is closed. I don't like that I tried making appointments online and showed up but it never actually went through and my doctor had gone home. I would stay for the doctor, but no doctor is worth this sort of foul play and harassment from the front desk staff. read more

Dr. Maplethorpe is the best doctor I have ever been to. She is very caring, compassionate and never rushes you. When we decided to move to Texas my first 2 thoughts were: 1. How am I going to live without Trader Joe's? 2. What are we going to do without Dr. Maplethorpe? I've managed without Trader Joe's, but I still haven't found a good doctor here. read more

This is the first time I've ever felt compelled to write a review about a doctor. Dr. Maplethorpe is friendly, thorough, and knowledgable. She is easy to talk to and answers all of my questions. She makes me feel involved in my healthcare decisions and sits side by side with me as we go over my medical file together. She employs shared decision making and presents me with options and all the information I need to make an informed decision. Her nurse, Misty, is also very nice and competent. Dr. Amy Olsen saved me after I had a rough surgery in 2010, and I have trusted her with my healthcare ever since. I have also received wonderful service from Dr. David Farrell. My understanding is that in Summer 2011, one of their doctors left the clinic to pursue other opportunities, and as a consequence, the administrative-side of the office seems to be in transition. Yet, none of the current changes have affected my being able to obtain immediate appointments, nor professional treatment and courteous timely service from Lakeside Family Physicians and their front-end staff. It confuses me to see any negative reviews since I have had a lot of interactions with various doctors and clinics, and feel that Lakeside Family Physicians are a special group that you will not find elsewhere. Obviously, it is best to be your own strong advocate with your healthcare, so keep looking for the best doctors office for you; I feel that I have found the one I trust, so I do recommend Lakeside Family Physicians. read more

We were faithful patients at Lakeside for several years and have left because the business went downhill. It started out wonderfully, but the last six to ten months have been a nightmare with them. Firstly, we never received bills in a timely or accurate manner. This is especially frustrating when trying to deal with finances. We have received bills so late that our insurance wouldn't accept any adjustments and it had been over a year. Then, when I tried calling the accounting lady, she never called me back. They are the only doctors office that I have ever heard of that charges you a dollar per page (yes. PER PAGE) to transfer our medical records. This is completely unethical, and I'm not even sure how legal it is. I'm thinking about either calling the State Medical Board to see how they are allowed to do this, or going in to personally pick up my records to finally be done with them. It's such a shame that they went downhill so quickly. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Spence at Lakeside for my pregnancy. She is very good and thorough, with smiling eyes and a motherly knowing-ness. I've heard she has 3 young children herself. She takes time with the prenatal appointments, I never feel rushed. She answers all my questions. And has also reassured me that the chances are very good that she will be attending the birth rather than another doc I am unfamiliar with. I haven't ever met another doc at this practice to this point. All going well thus far....I will update post-partum!! read more

In May of 2017 I received a statement for $335 due for services since November 2016. On the statement it said that $125 was 0 to 30 days old, and $210 was 61 to 90 days old (there was nothing that was 31 to 60 days old). This was the first time I had received a statement. When I mentioned this to the receptionist who had handed me the bill, she informed me that the billing company Lakeside uses is typically "slow". It turns out that my portion of the cost has been about $70 per visit. Had I received a timely statement, I would have paid for the first $125 and then stopped coming. I cannot be expected to pay for something I was not informed of for 90 days and therefore given no opportunity to discontinue my appointments. I wrote Dr Farrell a letter to that effect and heard nothing back. Until February 2018, when a collection agency hired by Dr Farrell sent me the same bill with late charges. Dr Farrell might be ok, but his business practices are unethical. I will not return. read more

This is the last straw. I have been a patient of this practice for 5 years now and have never really been happy with their services. After today I am on the hunt for a new practice. Forget trying to have any contact via phone if you have a simple question. You will wait up to 2 hours even with an appointment. The office staff is continuously changing. My primary care physician has been on " sabbatical " for over 2 years now. I just know I have had better experiences elsewhere. I highly suggest you try somewhere else. read more

very irritated with this dr office! i'm supposed to be seen at 8:45 this morning. i get a call at 8:28 stating they have to cancel on me cuz the dr cant help me... i just drove 45min to an hour to get here.. i took off work so i could be here on time.. i'm here on time and they turn me away.. it would be nice to get a phone call 24 hours before i take the time out of my day to get help. but get turned away less than 15 min before my appointment!! im fucking pissed read more

So the office receptionist is extremely difficult. I'm a new patient and, for whatever reason, continued to avoid making me an appointment. When I asked to speak to an office manager or owner, she said she was the only one. I left my name and number for the physician but I doubt I'll get a call. So frustrating trying find care. I love Dr. Farrell, don't get me wrong. He is wonderful, but his staff leaves me completely frustrated EVERY TIME I deal with them. They don't listen, they call ME and ask ME to hold not two seconds after I answer and then hang up. I waited TWO WEEKS for results front something I should have gotten a day later. Before you think about going to this clinic as a patient, or even taking your family here. I think you guys should know how "well" they treat there employees. I worked there for a short amount of time for Dr Maplethorpe. She is a doll. Loved working with her. But the supervisors and leads. Now they are a joke. You work 40 - 60 hours a week there never get breaks and or lunches, it'll be a miracle if you can get a 15 min bite to eat in. The supervisor and lead there are so lazy they will tell you to do there work while they sit in there asses and get to eat. On top of that what is worse then doing work that you didn't go to school for. Patients. Ever wonder why your bills are so fucked up, and or never charged or even over charged or double charged. Because in top of us being front desk personal, MA that rooms, make call back, we have to do the billing to. But hear this we didn't go to school for that. So if it ever came out fucked up I apologize on behalf of them. So let me wrap this up for you guys. Want to go here still that is fine with me but just wanted you to know how hard we worked there to get you guys in and how over worked we were and starved ourselves to get everything done. Choose this physician's office because Dr. Maplethorp was so highly recommended. Almost immediately after seeing her for an initial consultation, she took a year's leave. Check ups with assistants we're marginal at best. I have moved to a new city and have found a new physician. read more

Do Not Go Here! 3 years ago my husband and I went and all was well. This time a whole other story. The office is a complete disaster, I have been waiting a month for blood test results, left 5!! messages still nothing. The kicker today when I called was the front desk sent me to the lab technician who said "who gave you this phone number?" then put me on hold so she could chew out the receptionist. Came back and told me she would give the message to the same assistant who hasn't returned my calls!!!!!!!!!!! My husband had a back issue. Went in told he needs an MRI. the office failed to send the request to the radiology office then when they finally did failed to get the insurance request processed so when my husband showed up for the test they couldn't do it. I have found the people at Lakeside Family Physicians to be friendly and professional. I experienced a kind and friendly welcome at the front desk at my last visit. Also the nurse practitioner Stephanie worked with me and was attentive and thorough. Elizabeth did the blood draw and it was the easiest one for me ever - and that's saying a lot - I hate being bruised or hurt, and this was literally painless - whew! They were recommended by a friend years back, and I will continue to use them, if my insurance continues to provide coverage as in-network, which so far so good. read more

This office is very disorganized and i do not recommend it at all. I went in for a check up and was there for 90 mins. (!) I saw Dr Maplethorpe and she is blindly confident when she doesn't have all the facts. I've had a certain health issue and seen specialists from Boston to Seattle, and the first time she sees me, before she gets my complete records, she dismisses treatments and tests they've all recommended. Really?! That's pretty bold. I don't think she's more leading edge than specialists in the area. She had a condescending and superior way about her, and seems unwilling to accept new treatments. I've also called several times with basic questions for her nurse, and not one of my calls was returned - finally on the 4th call someone answered! I was told I'd get a response to my question, but a week has passed and still no answer. I'm not a big fan if you can tell. I'm already looking within network to switch dr's asap. read more

From my experience and looking at other Yelp reviews, it looks like that over-billing is their business model. By far my worst experience at a doctor's office. I went in for an annual physical exam and saw Dr. Danielle Paster. As one would expect from a busy professional, I had a long list of minor issues that I brought up during the exam. I was told, sort of rudely, that each of these is a separate issue and I will have to schedule separate appointment for each of the issues. Fair enough. I did not discuss further. To my surprise, I received a bill from them that had a separate charge for a professional visit on top of the charge for annual physical. I call their billing office and the billing office is run by someone working part-time. I got the recorded message that my call will be returned in three business days. I decided to send an email and got a response in two days. I was told that since I brought other issues up during the exam, I will be charged for a professional visit. Really. I cannot even mention to you that my back and shoulders are hurting or that sometimes my blood pressure is high? What am I supposed to do in an annual physical, just stay quiet and not say anything at all. My first Yelp review ever - out of sheer frustration. read more

I have seen both Dr Maplethorpe & Dr Farrell. I like Dr Maplethorpe's personality more, but I see Dr Farrell because he works more hours and is easier to get an appointment with. I also really love that he is a DO. I didn't even know what that was before I saw him. Google it. I know that Dr Farrell is on my side and is knowledgeable of naturopathic treatment instead of just pushing pharmaceuticals at me until I drop. We love Lakeside Family Physicians, Dr. Farrell is fabulous! He takes fantastic care of myself, my husband and our three sons. He is always sure to be very thorough and ask our input. The boys just love him, he's friendly and kid as well as knowledgeable and professional. The front end people Ashley & Courtney are always kind and helpful, and with a growing practice do everything they can to keep our busy family on schedule, they both realize how valuable my time is and how hard it is to run late with three boys- they are super happy to let me know if they're running on time or slightly behind when I call in prior to our appointments. MAs Sheena & Jen are so friendly with the kids, and really take an interest in them and what they have to say- and it means a lot to me that they remember specifics about our family. The back office staff would be my one complaint- When Sandy the Billing Specialist writes DON'T LET THIS BILL EFFECT YOUR CREDIT in red ink on a first notice of a bill- It really rubs me the wrong way. And my son and husband have the same first name but different last names, and my son has co-insurance, so I don't pay a copay when he visits- So I had to go through and figure out where they had mistakenly billed my 9 year old son with ADD as my husband. And the office manager Mary is better at making excuses and putting on a forced happy face than she is at managing an office. ALL of those issues said, Dr. Farrell is SO good- that I would NEVER consider going somewhere else. Our family just loves him. read more

I have several very serious illnesses. I require prescriptions and regular doctor visits to keep me alive. Again today I scheduled an appointment and was told that unless I brought my account up to date I would not be allowed to see the doctor. I told the lady that called me that I had serious issues with the bills as I had stated before. That it would cost me $12 per visit to prove to them that I had made the payments that I made. As there are quite a few of these that would be an undue hardship on my part. I should not have to prove that I made a payment as they do not allow you to see a doc until you have made your co-payment. I have always made my co-payments at time of service. I should not be billed for these amounts. I also told her that I have been a patient with Lakeside since they opened their doors around 10 years ago now. This did not phase her. I continued and said that I have had problems, many problems, with getting prescriptions refilled, doctor appointments, billing issues and even having appointments cancelled with no call to me which resulted in a waste of time and money getting to an appointment when the doctor is not there. I have referred many patients to them over the years and my partner also sees Dr. Farrell. I told her that we would not be returning to Lakeside asked her to inform Dr. Farrell and Dr. Maplethorpe (asked that Dr. Maplethorpe email me). After all these years and so many that I can't count mistakes on the fault of the office staff I regret to say that I will never see any physician in this office again for any reason. I would advise anyone who is a current patient or new patient to avoid this office. The doctors are great but the office staff will literally kill you. read more

The Doctors are Great! Difficult to get an appt. with the front desk, she is horrible, no common courtesy and has a GOD complex. She will simply hang up the phone on you if she does not agree with what you are saying. She also feels it is necessary for her to diagnose your symptoms over the phone and correct you with her (lack of) professional secretarial opinion. If she could just focus on doing her job of setting appointments for the great doctors at the office it would be a great place. Dr. Schneider with Glen Rose lakeside physicians is the worst doctor I have ever taken my boyfriend to by far! We were always to appointments on time and it would take the doctor 3+ hours to get us back there! We then search for another doctor that is more time efficient and caring to his patients. All the while my boyfriend has been diagnosed with epilepsy we called to have an extended refill for another month. We had to wait for his phone call. He finally called around 1:30 - 2:00pm July 6, 2015 and the voicemail was word for word as follows: "Hey Matt this is Dr. Schneider, we're going to give you a month refill on your script but after that I never want to see or hear from you again, are we clear?" What doctor in their right mind speaks to a patient that way?! Better business bureau has been contacted and I have went to the American medical board and also the lakeside physicians administration office has been notified of this incident. Never in my life will I ever take anyone to Schneider again and I will not recommend him to anyone neither. read more

I have been a long standing patient with this medical practice. Dr. Mapplethorpe has seen me through 2 pregnancies and births, multiple family check ups, you name it. I loved the care I received here and I was always greeted with warmth. I now no longer will recommend this practice, in fact run far away! They consistently ignore my phone calls, even a complaint to the office manager was not returned. They started treating me and my family like $$ instead of a true patient. The front desk receptionist is horrible. She is very unprofessional on the phone and in person and multiple times has called me a liar. They booted my kids from the practice stating that they never took their insurance, ever! Really? I never once received a bill from them (except co-pays) so they lie!! Im very unhappy with the service. I have also been requesting our medical records be transferred for well over a month to our new doctor and they keep telling me they have never got the requests. This is a horrible doctors office. They are incompetent, unorganized, unprepared, irresponsible and have terrible customer service. I have been there three times so far and they have messed up 2 of the 3 times. I have seen multiple doctors and nurses at this office and none of them are good. You asked for something and then it never gets done, or is later than expected, and they have the worst follow up. if i could give a negative mark i would. This was a horrible experience. i spent less than 1/2 hour meeting Dr. Olson as a new patient. There was no exam what so ever. After that initial visit i left phone messages with her assistant with absolutely no response (that assistant has since been replaced). i assumed they didn't want me as a patient to i went to another doctor. Then i received a bill - they charged $350 for that visit and since i have a deductible my share was $216.59. i made several calls and the doctor finally called me back. i told her about the lack of response and the exorbitant charge for nothing. She said they are regulated by the government to charge what they do. She also stated that she felt it was not a good match and that she would talk to the billing department. Again so response and after a couple more calls to the billing office i had to ask them to please speak with the doctor (i can't make them talk to each other). She was willing to deduct a whopping $16.59 off the bill. Gee - Thanks! What a rip off - no-one there was friendly and it was the worst experience i have had at a doctors office and this is the first review i have ever written. Stay away from that place! read more

They get two stars simply for the fact that the doctor is pleasant enough. The staff, however are ridiculous. Especially billing. First of all, they don't even HAVE a front desk person. You have to look into a camera and push a doorbell to have someone come out to see you. Uh ok. Next, they do not bill properly. Whoever is in charge of billing should be fired and never work in medical billing again. She is so incompetent that we weren't even billed at all until we showed up to the appointment and was told we wouldn't be seen until we paid it in full. Really? You couldn't have sent us a bill? So we paid DOUBLE for our cash payment appointment. No discounts for paying cash. If you express your distaste for the process at all, she becomes rude and downright vicious. Definitely not adhering to the Hippocratic oath of first do no harm. They also go into this unnecessary diatribe about how 17 other people don't pay their bills so they have to make sure we aren't one of them. Um. HIPPA anyone? Thanks but no thanks. read more

whoever answers their phone is by far the most difficult and rude person I have ever had to deal with. She literally made it impossible for me to schedule an appointment with Dr Ferrell. I have all of my insurance information, explained that he was on the website for approved Dr's for my Group Health insurance but that simply wasn't good enough for her. She wouldn't take my insurance information and look it up, she wanted me to email the card, I explained that I am waiting on the physical card due to a car accident and all of my belongings being destroyed, she refused to schedule an appointment. What is the difference if I supply you with the information or you see the card? Judging simply by her tone and attitude she was looking for any excuse not to schedule me. Even after she demanded I tell her why I need to be seen and I tell her that I have Lupus and need a Dr. she continued to be rude and wouldn't schedule me. All I am looking for is a Dr that is going to help me that listens to me and doesn't rush me out of the room after writing an RX. I thought that's what I was going to be scheduling. No Dr could possibly be worth dealing with that woman no matter how kind and what sort of quality of life he can get back to me. I would rather continue to be stuck in bed with excruciating pain 24/7 than ever have to speak to her again. All I want to know is whatever happened to sympathy... forget empathy but just a little compassion would be awesome. read more

I certainly wish I had checked Yelp before making an appointment! I enjoyed the doctors and medical staff very much ... but oh, those office "helpers". What a pair! I called to request a refill of medication that my Dr. and I discussed in November, but that I did not need to fill until now. After being forced to tell every personal detail to the non-medical part of the staff, I requested to leave a message for my doctor or nurse. Jeannie said she would pass the message and get back to me. She did get back to me, but Jeannie told me I would need to be seen by the doctor in order to fill the prescription. When I again explained that I already had been seen by the doctor, she said she would again get back to me. I told her that I would feel like I was frauding my insurance company by knowingly asking them to pay for an appointment that I have already had. Less than five minutes later, Mary the Office "Manager" called to let me know that I should pick a different doctor, etc, etc. I was uterly shocked, and asked how in the world did we get from asking to leave a message for my doctor to having these two girls try to kick me out of their practice?? I asked again to leave a message for one of the doctors or nurses ... Mary told me "No. You are talking to me now." I called my insurance company ... They lodged a formal complaint that will be addressed with these two. I also lodged a formal complaint with the state. Both agencies were apologetic for the rough treatment and for the lack of access to my caregiver. I have transferred all my records to my old clinic ... Happy to be rid of these angry women. I have never, ever been treated so poorly in any business, let alone a doctors office. The world has gone mad .... Perhaps the doctors in the practice will see fit to find these two "workers" a new place to act out their anger. I feel sorry for the unsuspecting patients that will have this happen to them. So I have been with lakeside family physicians for probably the last 6 years. The first couple years everything went well but that was only because I didn't have issues I needed help with.This practice DOES have receptionists but they never seem to want to answer phones so you will likely wind up leaving messages. When I had a question about medications, illnesses or side effects I was experiencing, I was entirely unable to reach any doctor or even a receptionist. In addition to that, I never received call backs from my doctor. I have been a patient of Stephanie Nesser and Sammantha Maplethorpe and had the same poor experience with both. Once I experienced excessive bleeding related to a birth control I was on and so I left Stephanie Nesser THREE voicemails over the course of FOUR days asking her what I should do. She NEVER returned my calls. I will not go back to this place and would give it zero stars if possible.
