Beautiful lighthouse on Lake Ontario. Not far from Buffalo, there are campgrounds to stay on as well. There is a fee to enter the park, and another for the lighthouse I think. I paid cash for both.
You can climb to the top of this lighthouse and the person working there when I went knew a lot. She was very interesting. You can also rent out the facility for a night or two.
This lighthouse was actually to warn people of the shoals nearby. Its was built in the 1870s, and still is used today. It was also one of the 5 lighthouse stamps from a recent series by the USPS.
Today its maintained by the State of NY and the Friends of Thrity Mile Point Lighthouse. read more
