After making arrangements for a ride and having a vehicle, I brought it in and was met by a Mark or Marty (unsure). He immediately started to ask about services I should have done while its there. I said just the recall item. He then asks if a service light was on and I said not right now but had one prior. He says it has to have a service light or if they do the diagnostic, I will be charged $210 if it doesnt qualify. He didnt ask if it had issues. I restated that I had work done on it in April but didnt care. I asked that since this ends at 84,000 miles and I am at 80 that this should be taken care of now. Didnt seem to care. I said I would go home and check what was done on car and call back. I called a half hour later and he was gone so called the next day. By this time I had checked online about the recall and it specifically says no service light needed and listed the symptoms of the issue- all of which I had told him I had. Even mentioned lifetime powertrain warranty which could affect the cost. He still had no interest in helping me. I spoke to the mechanic who did my work and he basically said the Fury service dept was bs now but used to be good. I then made appointment at Morries Buffalo. Extremely helpful, even offering a loaner car and a ride home. Super professional staff. Called me a day later with diagnostics and said it needed the short block replacement, and will be done this next week. I will be telling anyone who will listen about the service there and can not see recommending you for anything. We are replacing at least 2 of my 5 cars in the next hear too- I know where I wont be buying them from.

After experiencing the intense "no-can-do" mindset of a metro area GMC dealership, I took my 2007…read morePontiac Solstice to The Bearded Mechanic in St. Bonifacious--three miles from our Woodland Cove home. GMC had been unable to locate a new (that is to say "on a shelf for the past nineteen years") rear differential for the car. They had, however, unearthed a used assembly, but eventually determined it to be unsatisfactory for some unspecified reason. After a wasted morning, I was summarily dismissed with a greasy handshake, an excessive diagnostics bill and best wishes for finding a suitable mechanic to fix the problem that GM-trained technicians were unable to resolve. I found just such a mechanic across from the Holiday station in St. Boni. Kyle (the eponymous namesake of the Bearded Mechanic brand) searched the Internet for a proper rear differential and--in less than five minutes--located a new (unused) one. Kyle's sunny optimism was a welcome change from the apathy that was prevalent at the General Motors dealership. Kyle and his employee Isaiah (also a bearded mechanic) repaired the car in a single day at a reasonable cost. (The lavish price of the differential was set by the online seller.) My car now runs flawlessly and I couldn't be more pleased. If there is a drawback to having a car serviced by The Bearded Mechanic(s), it's that exceptional service inevitably results in a waiting list. I highly recommend The Bearded Mechanic (in fact, both of them).

They determined a tire rotation wasn't necessary and my tires could go longer without a need to have them replaced. The place is immaculate and it was relaxing to have a complimentary beverage and wait in the quiet waiting room. Kyle the owner checked me in and Isaiah did the work and did my paperwork. Without the tire rotation they saved me $40. I was assured the other filters were still good. Honest, professional, fast and experienced. My new automotive shop.

Van sat and never looked at and finally 6 days later, had to pay again to have towed to another dealership 60 miles away to be actually serviced. GM and family owner, Heidi Strong disregarded it as a miscommunication on the Servives Managers as they deemed it as a "drop off appointment". The GM gave no solution, only to impersonally text me, " Yes, Eric put you in our scheduler to set you up with an appointment on that day like he said, so that they could fit you in when able. Otherwise, you would not be present in the schedule to fit you in... so basically there, but pending like he explained. The verbiage should b updated to reflect that, but brand new system that we r working through. So same as what he told you during the conversation. Sorry 4 the confusion." They lost a potential customer and one to warn others, as they also blame it on "A new computer system". So I brought it here to get repaired. The good: They do an inspection with photos and put it online for you to see. The service writer was patient and helpful in figuring out what work to get done and was upfront about costs. They offer free loaner cars, which I did not use. The are ASE certified mechanics. The bad: The original inspection addressed everything else they wanted to replace and did not address what caused the sticking caliper - the reason I was there. They did go back and look at it though once I asked, and said the pins probably rusted. They wanted to replace a strut, front brakes and rear brakes, secure a heat shield better, degrease the engine to pinpoint a leak, and do an oil change. It's good to know about that stuff but the rear left brake was the pressing issue. Was originally quoted $1,175 to replace just the rear brakes: new calipers, new rotors, new pads on both the rear left and rear right (but not the front.) The car is only worth $1500, it's a Scion/Toyota not a Mercedes or BMW and it's old. I had been quoted $850 to do all that somewhere else with 3 yr warranty, new parts etc. So I asked what's the minimum they could do to get all 4 brakes working and they said they could replace just the rear left caliper and rear left brake pads for $450. The brake pads come in sets for both rear wheels but the mechanic wouldn't put the rear pads on the right side because he wouldn't work with the rear right caliper - it's too old and rusty, might break (though I would've taken that risk.) He would want to replace it instead. Well if I replaced every old rusty part of my car that still works I'd have a new car, and they charge $300+ to put a new caliper in. And they don't machine resurface rotors even if they're thick enough to. They said they want to warranty the rotors for 3 years instead. Well my car might not last another 3 years. So I chose the $450 option. When I picked it up they gave me the breakdown of the work: $192 for a remanufactured caliper sold at NAPA a few blocks away from the shop for less than $100. $50 for brake pads sold at NAPA for $25. $178 for the labor to install a new caliper and pads on just the rear left wheel. The brakes vibrate because they don't resurface rotors. They gave me the extra set of brake pads that came in the box they wouldn't put on the right side without replacing the caliper. I see a lot of good reviews here but nobody is saying what they paid. And they don't want to work with old rusty parts, just replace them all. Maybe that's typical, but 4 or 5 stars would be going above typical. And the shop is only open until 5pm. It took a week to get me in. All that said, this isn't a negative review. I'm just saying this may be a small, honest family owned shop in Corcoran with just a few mechanics and service people, but it isn't a thrifty one. Far from it. But I do now know all the work my car needs done in the near future and how to tackle it with a more thrifty shop and a probably a parts dealer/service locator like Tirerack.
