If in the area again I wouldn't look elsewhere. We really enjoyed everything here. Some things to know since they are a little different than a typical spot: 1) No refrigeration in our room. Not sure if all rooms are like that. There's a community fridge behind the bar and it worked just fine for us. 2) Ice is in a small freezer behind the bar that they refill from the kitchen. It worked for us. 3) Breakfast is pretty similar from day to day. Little egg cups (crustless quiche) and an amazing yogurt that you can customize however you wish. Fresh bagels and breads. Coffee setup is well organized and works well. 4) The people are wonderful. As good as it gets. 5) Great rooms. Ours had a very comfortable bed and pillows, a small sitting area where we had a bottle of wine with friends very comfortably and a large bathroom with a great shower and separate tub. 6) No TVs but excellent Wi-Fi. Who has time to watch tv when you're travelling? Not us. I do need to stay connected to work, though, and the Wi-Fi had a reliable connection and decent speed for me. 7) The common areas are very comfortable and as beautiful as you could ever want. So many spaces to settle into without another guest on top of you. 8) Maybe 10 minutes to the downtown area. Not walkable but close enough that you don't really have to plan the trip. We really loved our stay at the Blind Tiger. I would happily return. Just a wonderful place!

Check-in was seamless & very personable - I rang a bell in the lobby & someone (Paige, I think?) appeared in seconds. My room was ready before their stated 4 PM check-in time, so I was allowed to settle in early. I stayed in the Half Pigeon room (all of the rooms are named & have very different vibes) which was very black & white & abstract. The common areas are designed to perfection. The solarium?! Maybe my favorite room I've ever stepped into in the entire universe. There are multiple fireplaces throughout the first floor. There is a small fridge for guest-use in the bar area, as well as an ice freezer. Snacks in a snack cabinet up for grabs. Breakfast was incredible. A full spread of fruits, yogurt, housemade bread (& gluten-free bread by request), flourless quiche bites, & more. Delicious, fresh-brewed coffee & all sorts of milks to choose from. On day two, they did breakfast to-order rather than a buffet. I assume to reduce food waste. I filled out a card with my desired breakfast order & what time I'd like to eat. It appeared on a tray in the dining room exactly when I requested. This hotel is SO worth the little splurge. I'm already daydreaming about planning a trip back to Burlington to stay here again. Andrea, the proprietor, keeps the carriage house and the grounds to the property very tastefully appointed. While the carriage house is located right in the heart of this small, college-friendly city, Howard St. is a very quiet residental venue and is situated in a very nice part of town. The location was actually very convenient. Just about a mile from the heart of the little bustling down-town area, the mile long walk each waty was a great way to get exercise and to experience the sights on foot. The carriage/guest house itself is very clean, neat, orderly and comfortably decorated. To our delight, we even found fresh milk and OJ in the mini-fridge, which was very thoughtful. A cupboard also offers complimentary fresh cereals, teas, hot chocolate and coffee for use by any guest. There were PLENTY of freshly laundered linens available, also. The ONLY amenity which could use a little upgrading (but its not a big deal) is the television (old tube style) and the VCR would be better replaced by a modern DVD player. (VHS- what's that?) Free Wi-Fi is supplied by the proprietor, which is a very convenient amenity by today's standards. We will definitely be back for a second visit!

They do have coffee, tea, cereal, milk, and orange juice kept in the kitchenette area with wine glasses, flatware, etc. It was $366 total for two nights, a bit expensive, but I guess you get a better comfortable deal all in one, so why not! The upstairs studio, where we stayed, can accomodate up to four people (2 on bed, one on additional bed, and one on the couch). It is definitely a good share, or for a couple away from home. *Btw, beware of the toilet bowl... it did clog up.

Great location in walking distance to Arrowhead Lodge. During my stay both Deborah and Peter made me feel welcome and were so attentive but not intrusive. The Cabbage Rose room was comfy with lovely decor. Loved the little gas fireplace and the large shower was wonderful. Breakfast could satisfy any appetite and the food was delicious. The homemade jams/syrup were amazing! Peter's world famous waffles were indeed delightful! Deborah was so easy to talk to and I appreciated her making me feel comfortable while visiting my sister. Some times you just need an open and welcoming soul that allows you to relax after a difficult year. I look forward to seeing Deborah and Peter next year! Thank you both again!

From the moment we arrived we felt welcome. The room was beautiful and so very comfortable. Deborah & Peter really engaged with us, took an interest and made time to discuss our plans and offer recommendations. Pretty quickly we felt as though we had a home away from home. We had everything we needed and the breakfast was splendid. We had our own private space, with everything we could need (including an amazing bathroom), but also had opportunity to meet with other guests which made the stay even more memorable. We already know we will be going back - like a number of regular guests Deborah & Peter have. They clearly love hosting guests, and it really shows in what they offer. The suite is immaculate and the gardens in the back are beautiful and serene. It's walking distance to Church St. Marketplace and Waterfront park. It's not a traditional B&B but more of a grab and go which is perfectly fine with me since there are lots of places to eat within 3 blocks. Do yourself a favor and don't stay in a hotel, you would be missing out on a gem.

The "not set up for credit cards" is a plus for me - I like the notion that merchants are pushing back on the high bank fees. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Plenty of towels While there is not hot breakfast served there was plenty available in the room's fridge: grass fed cows milk, Vermont cheddar, 4 containers of stonyfield yogurt, granola made by local coop, freshly ground coffee, etc...and the needed utensils/dishes The suite had fans and AC...but since I do not like AC, I loved having the fans available. all in all - a nice experience.

This is not a normal "guest house" in the sense of a B&B where you gather each morning with others to eat breakfast. Instead, this is a single studio in the same building as the owner's house with its own entry. It very much feels like your own studio apartment in Burlington. The owners have an excellent design sense, probably because they're artists themselves. The studio is roomy with high ceilings and original artwork on the walls. There is a kitchen, a sitting area, a small eating table, and a very comfortable queen size bed with hardwood floors throughout. Besides some temporary construction going on next door, the studio was absolutely quiet as you are on the upper floor and insulated well from the owner's place. There's also parking. The studio is a bit off the beaten path of downtown Burlington, but is an easy drive or long walk in, and overlooks the Winooski River. Much closer are the University of Vermont and a secondary urban area north of downtown that has its own shops and restaurants. A couple things to be mindful of when you book that weren't necessarily apparent to us: simple breakfast food is provided in the studio (granola, milk, cider, fruit, coffee, etc.) but is not served as a formal sitting each day in a separate dining room somewhere. Your room is also not cleaned each day as in a traditional B&B or hotel. Fortunately the space is so large and with plenty of eating options within a short distance, these were non-issues. We liked Burlington so much I'm sure we'll return within the year and will definitely stay at Dubuque Lane again.

The free breakfasts were delicious and the owners were great. I have to say..... the bed was VERY comfortable!! I rarely am comfortable in beds when I travel, but I just melted into this bed. The cons..... our room was tiny! You could barely walk around the bed, and there was very little room for your 'stuff'. You better like the person you're rooming with because you're basically on top of each other... also, there was a loud noise coming from below the room during the nights... I think it was coming from the restaurant. Luckily, it didn't last too long though. The blonde girl who cleans the rooms (don't know if she's related or just staff) was rude to us about needing supplies for the room. We also heard her screaming in some sort of fight with someone in one of the rooms one afternoon. Who wants to hear that when you're spending money to stay somewhere??? She had a lousy attitude.... Most of our stay was good, but we were very claustrophobic in our room. If that's not an issue for you, it's a great little place.
