A day hike could take you to the AP trail overlooking Sugarbush or Mad River ski resorts. Cool off in their spring fed pond or just read a book on the porch. It's a gorgeous place full of warm creative people who both love and appreciate nature and good living, and I have to say that out of all of the times I've been and the places I've stayed, this has been my absolute favorite. Carin & Luke are amazing hosts. They know a lot about the area and if you're looking for recommendations and suggestions about activities, they can point you in the right direction. Hikes, wineries, resorts, festivals, craft fairs, etc. etc. But if you're looking for a quiet getaway, they're not pushy. There's coffee in the morning and a delicious breakfast and their breathtaking property to take in. Mountains and trees and a large pond that you can swim or boat in. The water is clear and refreshing! The accommodations themselves are modern and cozy, bright and spacious, and the rooms are very comfortable. (It's nice to hop into a nice, modern hot shower with good water pressure after a dip in the pond!) While I'd like to keep this to myself, I know that there are city dwellers who are desperately in need of a rejuvenating vacation, and so this is your place! It's a great place to stay local (swim, hike, read books, play games, etc) or use as a home base to do other things in the area. I've stayed at a hotel in Sugarbush and found this B&B to be much more relaxing. Hosted by locals and away from tourists and kitsch, I truly felt immersed in the Vermont experience here! I will definitely stay here again.

I grew up in Bristol and decided that it was about time to return to my "roots" and see what rural Vermont has to offer. After a quick look, I realized that there were really no motels in there area but apparently in the last few years a few B&Bs have sprung up. As we were traveling with a 4 year old, I wasn't sure if it work out or not, but Sue was more than accommodating and the stars aligned in our favor. I'm sure that since I am from the area, I am too easily charmed by the bucolic splendor, but The Dreamhouse County Inn really captures the mood of country living. We enjoyed fireflies in the twilight, the dark and quiet of a country evening, and a delicious pancake breakfast with fresh raspberries in the pancakes. After breakfast, George took us on a brief walk around the property where we had the chance to visit the raspberry patch and also pick a few fresh blueberries as well. I would strongly recommend a stay at this charming B&B to anyone who wants to spend some quality time away from the hectic city life or is looking for a friendly place to stay while on the road.

We rented out not only the cabin but the studio above the workshop. Each location had it's own charm. The cabin for rent has a large family room and kitchen space. Great for 4 people to share for social time. On the top level is a very comfortable bed with a private bath. Only one couple can really sleep there at night., You can see the owner's personal train tracks from some of the windows as well as the property. The studio above the workshop is great for a couple. With a living room w/EIK and a bedroom. It's a close drive to Waterbury and Burlington as well as a few major ski lodges. Upsides: It really does have a home-y feel and you have a lot of space to move around on. There's WI-FI. Truly lovely worksmanship on the cabin. A cute town named Richmond is nearby for your daily needs. Downside: It's up a mountain that's not paved. During a heavy winter or mud season is becomes a tad hard to reach. Worth the trip up, slightly scary coming down if your not a local.

The owners are very nice and kindly and made us feel at home. The studio was probably about the size of our place in Boston. It had a fully-stocked kitchen with a stove, oven, dishwasher, and full-sized fridge. The bathroom was spacious and had a romantic claw-foot tub. The living area had a phone (important because there was no AT&T cell reception!), flat panel tv, dvd player, and cd player/speakers. I spent most of my time at the bench dining table. The queen-sized bed was very soft, and creaky. A great selection of books sat in the in-wall shelving, including The Perfect Storm. It was lovely to escape the city stressors and spend a quiet weekend relaxing. They rent out space for weddings, too, for anyone looking for an outdoor venue. We hiked along the trails around the area. It was very rainy the previous week so we couldn't do Camel's Hump as planned. Parts of the trail were very muddy and there were bugs everywhere. I got some wicked bad bug bites pre-DEET application. Now I know black flies bite. Also, beware the neighbor-son's dog. The owners' dog Elsa is a sweetie, but the neighbor-son's dog will attack.

I became so overwhelmed by the heat, I had to go to my car and turned on the air conditioner for 10 minutes before going back in for the sit down dinner in another section of the venue. There were fans in the dining area but it was still quite hot. The bride became overwhelmed by the heat and had to leave the party for over an hour. She sat most of that part in the bathroom with her feet in cold water because she was so sick from heat exhaustion. The food was very delicious. In fact I asked for 2 pieces of pate, and the owner (who was serving) said no. There was plenty of appetizers left over before we went over for dinner. Dinner was served buffet style. The owner was slicing the steak. He ask if I wanted 1 or 2 pieces. I said 2. At about 7:30 , I went back with another guest. We asked for more steak. He once again asked us if we wanted 1 or 2 slices. I ask for 3 and he did not like that. He gave my 3rd slice from a discarded end piece that was already cut off and put to the side. My friend received 2 slices, one was also a discarded piece set off to the side. It was a wedding. I did not want to make a scene. This was clearly poor customer service. From the owner, no less. There was plenty of food left. Plenty of steak left. The wedding was scheduled to end at 10:30pm. All the leftovers was taken away soon after we got our second serving of steak. There was no announcement that the food would be taken away, should anyone wanted extra servings. The leftovers was Not packed and given to guests or the wedding family. There was No reason to guard the food from the guests. It was already paid for. The wedding was not scheduled to end until 10:30. The only thing that was free flowing was the drinks. I noticed that the bartenders marked down each that was served. After inquiring about why, it turns out each of the drinks were being charged to family hosting this event. The bride was gorgeous. Everyone made the best of this situation. It just should have been handled better. I think no one should have a wedding here in June, July, and August. Also, it should be established with the owners the the food is for the guests. Not saved for leftovers for others. Outrageous.

There is also tea, coffee and evening port available as well! Our room included a private, detached bathroom a few doors down the hall, but the provided bathrobes and intimate feel of the home (including the fact that there are only a few guest rooms on the first floor) made the detached bathroom adequately comfortable. The common areas were very comfortable, and we felt welcome to use them. Sometimes at B&B's you feel like you're in someone's living room, but this felt like usable guest space. We enjoyed the tea from Vermont Liberty Tea Co., and were especially excited to arrive back at the B&B late one evening to a platter of brownies in the dining room! (Linda was kind enough to share the recipe, though after seeing how much butter was called for - no wonder they were so good!! - I never attempted baking them myself). Coffee on the large porch in the morning overlooking fields and a large lawn dotted with adirondack chairs provided a welcome escape from city life. Luke and Linda were very friendly and fun, eager to offer recommendations but also not intrusive. Breakfast was delicious, and Linda was patient with my friend's several special requests. The dining room included a large, long table, but also a couple of smaller tables for 2 for those who prefer more intimacy. I definitely intend to return!
