Example: today I had significant pain and swelling around one of my upper molars. I have never had any issues with my teeth and was quite concerned. I called the office first thing this morning and they immediately worked me in. Numerous possibilities were going through my head. Had I cracked a tooth? Did I need a root canal? Was a crown necessary and if so, how much would that cost me. After an x-ray and assessment Dr. Dunn found the root of my pain and problem. A popcorn kernel. A popcorn kernel was lodged in my gum. He asked me what I had done this weekend and there was the answer to my pain and swelling...my 7 year old daughter's birthday party. Movies and popcorn for 35 first grade girls had taken it toll. My primary point is that he could have completed numerous procedures and charged me and/or my insurance company countless dollars, but he didn't. I asked if we could meet in the middle to preserve the relationship (something their web presence says they value), but she was unable to come to an equitable resolution for me. They may have received their cash payment for $165, but will lose out on thousands of dollars worth of future claims payments from my insurer because they were unable/unwilling to compromise with a long-standing, reliable patient. With all that said, I will miss Dr. Davenport and I wish her well. I hope her office management team learns to see the bigger picture when it comes to preserving patient relationships, especially when the amount in question is so paltry in the long run.
