Came here to get a too good to go box. We got a plate of food and it was a good portion. A lot of rice but good regardless. The inside was nice and even though they were closing it was still busy inside and food was going into the food bar. I did get two drinks and one of the dessert balls in the case. I was absolutely shocked when they said it was $14! The price was shocking and I'm certainly hesitant next time. Food was good but the menu prices did show it was on the higher side. read more

I just don't know what to say. This would be such a bi-polar review. So I've never eaten in, we just got to go orders twice. The Butter Chicken was really good. It's as you'd expect from a nice place like this. But the Chicken Korma....how horrible. It's not the flavour, the flavour is good. But they chop up chicken and put it in, bones, cartilage and all. (pictures) So you can't take a bite of food without having to analyze it with your teeth to make sure youre not biting into something hard. It's worse than the restaurants that serve you a pasta dish with shrimp but the tails are still attached so you have to coat your fingers in alfredo sauce just to be able to eat your food. The dish was wholly disappointing because it was pretty much inedible. The naan bread is tortilla-like, it's not really the nice, fluffy bread you'd expect. (picture) The rice was nice and fluffy. Some good things but only three stars because of the inedible dish. We'll order other things next time, and there will be a next time no problem. Updated review to follow I'm sure. read more

Absolutely yummy food. Rice was super well seasoned, and the chicken was tasty and well cooked. We'll absolutely be back at some point. We'd like to try the weekend buffet, as that looks really good. This was my second time coming to Lal Qila to pick up food to go. The process for pick up was easy and no wait time since the food was already there for pick up by the time I arrived. I goat both the chicken biryani and goat biryani along with chicken korma and hummus. The goat biryani here was really more flavorful than compared to other places around town. My boyfriend who does not care for goat meat at all, preferred the chicken biriyani. The hummus and chicken korma were similar pad as other local restaurants. This place was used to be an Indian/Pakistani restaurant. It was recently renovated and now serve Pakistani, Afghan-Persian, Mediterranean cuisine. They also have buffet in the afternoon. The restaurant is pretty spacious and clean. We ordered the Goat Biriyani, Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Tandoori Naan, Mango lassi, Chai Cardamom, and a kid meal - Joojeh Kabob come with white rice, salad and juice. My favorite was the goat biriyani. Mango lassi was so good that I had to order the second one. The waiter told me that they made mango lassi here from fresh mango, not the mango purée. I didn't like the chicken tikka masala flavor, it's just not how I used to. Garlic naan was good and fresh. Service was friendly, but so slow..... We had to wait quite a while for somebody to take our order, and for our food to come. Then, it took me a while to flag down a waiter to let him know my kid's juice and the chai cardamom still didn't come... I guessed they were short staffed? Overall, the food tasted good, big portions and reasonable price. I'd come back for their mango lassi, chai cardamom and to try more afghan dishes here. read more

I have always ordered uber deliveries from this place. Perfect portions and great tasting menu. Order anything and you will not be dissatisfied. Naan is afghani style, so if you prefer Indian style naan, this is not a place for that. My fav is a platter based on how many people I'm ordering for. read more

I'm always blown away with how many extraordinary items are on their a la cart menu, but their buffet has some of the best quality items that I'm always torn between the options. They have a fantastic combination of Persian, Afghani, and Pakistani-Indian options. I strongly recommend Sunday brunch buffet for their Puri/Poori and Halwa, but any time of the week is great. My sons took me here for my birthday. We had heard good things from my SIL. We each had the buffet and we were each underwhelmed by the offerings especially for the cost. This is a family place. They have tables that seat a crowd. There were three large parties at these tables. The patrons were mostly eating at the buffet. My guest had lentil soup. I had a taste and it was good. Creamy and flavorful. We also had naan. I prefer naan to have oil or butter basted on while it's cooking. It was average. I had lamb shank with rice, carrots. I am not a fan of hot food, but there could have been some more seasonings on it. It was fine. Mango lassi was really cool and smooth. I want to return to this place when they serve the buffet. On a recommendation from an Iranian friend, we went to Lal Qila for my husband's birthday. Absolutely EVERYTHING was fabulous!!! The service was genuinely welcoming and so helpful in understanding the food items and knowing what to order. They celebrated my husband's birthday with a lovely dessert pastry with a candle and birthday song played for all to hear. It was most festive. We ordered a Family Plate which was a large sampling of their food. It came in a huge brass ornate dome-lidded dish. Most impressive!! We enjoyed eating from it and tasting so many new and different foods. Everything was delicious. The amount of food was so generous that we ate our fill and still took home lots of leftovers. The restaurant was clean and beautifully arranged with gorgeous chandeliers and lovely artwork but without being overdone. It was just what was needed to add that extra feeling of enjoyment. We will definitely go there again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a really great dining experience! On a scale of 1 to 5, we would give it a 6!!! read more

Fairly new and needs a bit more time to work the service kinks out. Lovely staff, but we were the only ones in there - to be fair, it was lunchtime the day after Christmas - ant it took a l o n g time to get our food. What we had was very tasty and the bread was outstanding. I'd go there again but more likely would purchase as a carry out order. Good to see them in the neighborhood though. Welcome! read more

Kabuli Pulaow was really good. It did not have too much masala, and the rice was cooked without too much oil to it. The lamb that came with the Pulaow tastes best when mixed with the rice. One of the best south Asian restaurants I've been to in Missouri. read more
