We were on a day trip and stopped at Lambert's for a quick meal. It's really cute inside and I have to say they aren't trying to be country...They Are Country!! Our food exceeded our expectations!! I ordered the Chicken and Dumplings and it was delicious and such a comfort food! My wife had the Chicken Tenders and they were also delicious, lightly breaded, and plenty to share and to take home! We'd eaten here many years ago and had recently eaten at the Lambert's near Branson so we're excited to eat here again. On a Sunday a little after noon the wait was about 15 minutes. One thing we noticed is that the dining room didn't seem as chaotic (and fun) as the one near Branson. The energy level did pick up when the roll throwing crew came out, but that only happened once while we were there. It actually seemed sedate for a crowded room. My wife had salmon green beans and yams and liked her meal. The salmon portion is very large. I got the pot pie, baked beans and baked potato and realized I'd made a poor choice. The pot pie was less flavorful than a frozen pot pie from the grocery store and just wasn't very good. The baked potato was just that, and didn't really come with anything to dress it up. Baked beans were little better than canned. I thought other entrees that other dinners had looked much better. Should have tried fried chicken it seemed popular. The only pass around we tried were the fried potatoes. At the other store I thought they were fantastic. These just seemed overly oily. Service was fast and friendly. While you wait, servers bring tuns of shareable appetizers (fried okra, black-eyed peas, noodles w tomatoes, as well as rolls w cinammon butter) - so you can start snacking if you are hungry!! Huge thumbs up for this winning idea! For best results; stick to country basics like Chicken & Dumplings, Meatloaf, CFS, etc.. My Frog Legs were the best I've eaten since Coffee Landing burnt down (20 years ago)! This is southern home-cooking and hospitality at its best. Lamberts is by far my favorite place to take friends and family when they are visiting the area for the first time. It's not a Michelin star restaurant but has more charisma and southern charm than any other place around. The portions are huge and the hot rolls are fantastic. This visit, we tried the cinnamon rolls for the first time and also the chicken pot pie. Both were good! The cinnamon rolls had a distinct powdered sugar thick icing. Not bad but could be improved with some vanilla, butter, and cream. The pot pie crust was satisfyingly buttery & crunchy and I somehow didn't feel overwhelmed by the amount of food this time as I did when I was little and made the mistake of ordering the salad that comes in a bread bowl with six packets of ranch dressing. Baked beans and potato salad had good flavor. Favorite pass around are always the fried okra as well as the fried potatoes with onions. Not a fan of the tomato macaroni or black eyed peas. The sorghum that they offer with the rolls (along with awesome apple butter) at first seems that it could be the same thing as molasses that is often used for making gingerbread cookies and such. It's actually sweeter and lighter. yum! It's made from sorghum cane, while molasses is made from sugar cane. Our server was great and we enjoyed talking to one of the kitchen managers on the way out who's from our neck of the woods down in Florida. read more

I stopped by Lamberts on my way to St. Louis for my birthday. I was solo, so I was seated immediately at the bar. And it was a Sunday afternoon. I had fried catfish, hushpuppies, greens, black eyed peas, sweet tea, and all the pass arounds (fried okra, apple butter). And yes, I caught a roll! The portions were very generous. If you're in the area, I recommend it, but if you're coming from St. Louis, 2hours away?? Idk about that. Now the rolls are pretty good. They serve them with honey and apple butter. The chickens pot pie was served with white meat and was pretty good. I didn't care for the sweet potatoes or cornbread. I also got the cinnamon roll, my fav dessert. It was ok. - little too sweet for me. The drinks come in these plastic cups that you have to just pray are thoroughly cleaned. And the pass around sides can also get pretty unsanitary with them passing the same spoon around on everyone's plate... not sure I'll make the drive back, but if I ever just so happen to be in the area, then maybe so. read more

I would rate this four stars for a fun experience but for me, it's probably going to be a one and done kind of place. The place is gigantic, but always seemed to be full. They have the table waiting experience down to a science and I would guarantee they are moving you to your table as quickly as humanly possible. We waited quite a while for our food after ordering which they blamed on a cheeseburger of all things. In the meantime, we were able to enjoy some fried okra and a couple rolls, which are the only pass arounds that they will give you if you don't have a plate. The fried okra was good and hot and crispy, but pretty underseasoned so we used the salt pepper and hot sauce at the table to make them tastier. The rolls are phenomenal! I think the throwing is a fun gimmick, but I was happy that they were also willing to gently toss me one while walking by because as an adult, I don't really want to catch my food. My daughter, on the other hand, was beside herself to be able to catch a roll thrown from the other side of the room. The rolls are blazing hot, so be prepared when you catch it to put it down immediately. I really enjoyed the apple butter which was also served as a pass around and I wish it would've made its way around a little more often. We enjoyed looking at the license plates on the wall and watching the roll throwing show for a while, but started to get frustrated at the long wait for our food. We ordered chicken tenders with fries and applesauce, cheeseburger with fries, pot roast plate with mashed potatoes and brown gravy, coleslaw, and candied yams, and chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and white gravy, corn, and green beans. Portions were ridiculously large and every plate could have served two people easily, possibly 3. The brown gravy was better than the white gravy, the french fries were terrible, the candied yams were way too sweet, but the rest of the sides were decent. The pot roast beef was the favorite of the entrées. Next time I would just get three servings of mashed potatoes as the sides and split this with two other people. Once we had our plates, we were able to enjoy the pass rounds. The potatoes and onions were fantastic, the Black Eyed Peas were decent. We didn't try the macaroni and tomato because by the time we saw the first pan of it we were pretty much done eating. I am a big side person and sides are usually my favorite part of the meal, but at Lambert's the entrées were overwhelmingly better than the side dishes, except for those amazing potato and onions and the phenomenal hot buttered rolls. Everyone should make the trip at least once and I really enjoyed the experience. read more

The food was so good . But there was bad hospitality. We went to the restaurant, and this man called a grown woman, even though we kids and said that we were acting too grown. Then the woman said if you didn't get your full bread, go on the floor and then the benches were moving while we moving. But that was it, and they barely even took a credit card and then the gift shop charged an arm and a leg almost everything. Have you been to a Lambert's Café before? If not, you have to go! If you have, then you know you want to go again! Where else can you get more food than you ordered and get piping hot and tasty yeast rolls throwed at you? (They use "Throwed" instead of thrown and it is a good part of the experience!) They have their pass around food which was fried potatoes, black eyed peas, and deliciously good fried okra this visit. Pass around means they walk up and down adding this to your plate if you want it. Trust me, you do. It is REALLY GOOD and it is free! I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy plus carrots and green beans. HUGE unsweet iced tea with lemon. The steak was real round steak and absolutely decadent! Add the pass around food, I could hardly fit through the door to leave! The atmosphere is a barn like dive but really funny. LOTS of stuff to see hanging from the ceiling and walls. Tons of license plates people have donated. They even have a gift shop! Plenty of parking, easy to find and the price is very reasonable considering you will over eat! Lambert's is one of my favorite family stops anytime we get a chance to go. You just about can't go wrong if you like country cooking! My favorite thing there is actually one of the pass arounds ( Fried Potatoes With Onion) It reminds me of being a kid at my grandmother's house deep Mississippi. My second favorite is the fried pork chops. Its a good thing we only get to come every year or so. You would not want to eat this way all the time. It's also just a fun atmosphere with like minded people most of the time. I have never had a crossed word here and always treated with respect. The inside is very cluttered but, its also what they are going for. The cleanliness is alway on point and the workers make sure you get everything you need. Lambert's Cafe is known for their "throwed" rolls, which are huge. When they come out of the oven one of the staff will ask who wants a roll and hands go up across the restaurant and soon a jumbo roll will be landing the hands of a waiting customer. Among my favorite dishes there are liver and onions and the chicken livers, both are excellent. They also serve a selection of pass-arounds in addition to the sides that come with your meal. The atmosphere was amazing. It had a bunch of license plates from different places and made me feel fun and the drink size were really good for only three dollars like that would come again. It was not the experience we expected! Our family had a group of 8 (5 adults and 3 children) and were told it would be 50 to 70 minutea. After 1 hour and 45 minutes later, we were called. We went to the front and there was some confusion, they didn't have a table for us. We waited (at the front) while they called groups of 15, 23 and other sIzes go in front of us. We waited at least an additional 10 minutes in the way of everyone before they asked if they could seat us in 2 groups of 4. At that point, we reluctantly agreed! I can't express how disappointed we all were not to enjoy our meal together as a family. This was the first experience for all of us, but me. We had 2 different servers and the one group of 4 had their meals and our group of 4 hadn't even ordered. When our server realized we were together, she put a rush on our meals and they arrived quickly. The food was delicious. No one was unhappy with their food. We were just really upset with how we were treated. I have never waited 2 hours for a meal to be separated from my family. read more
