We dropped by Fried Pies after seeing their billboard off of the freeway. We were researching places to eat along our route and there really wasn't much. They are located/connected to a Mobil gas station. The small restaurant has some tables inside a portion of the gas station. They also share a restroom (not the cleanest...). The fried pies are kind of a hybrid of a empanada and a hot pocket. It's a fun concept for an on the go snack. We ordered the Tex Mex, chicken (like a pot pie), and a pecan. The Tex Mex was the best. The chicken was mediocre. I didn't really like the pecan, but my husband loved it. Overall if you are already in the area and need a snack, give Fried Pies a try. On our way out, we noticed that they have a drive thru window in the back. Pretty convenient if you really needed a quick bite to eat. read more

Very disappointed today that they discontinued all of the meat pies and only have fruit and cream pies. The meat pies were a good balance to offset the sweet. They still customize and I recommend Haupia pie (half coconut cream and half chocolate cream). That is still awesome. Service was great but no Celeste. Apple pie was very good. Bring back the meat pies. read more

I have had an 8 year hiatus from getting back to this place. Sadly, it is not exactly what it used to be. While the fruit pies are still delicious, there are two main components now missing... 1) No more savory pies....what a crime. I asked if they had any plans to bring them back...unfortunately no was the answer. 2) Apparently, orders are not prepared when you place it anymore. The guy at the counter said that they are made "same day" now. I did ask specifically if they would make me some fresh, and the timing must have been right because out of my order of 5 pies....he did talk the lady cooking into making me a couple hot ones. The sweet pies are really good but I don't think I'll be making the 20 mile detour without the combination of lunch and dessert. read more

So, I've been to this place before...the fried pies are fantastic...however, this stop there were only sweet pies; they apparently don't serve the savory pies anymore which was SUPER disappointing. The fruit pies were just as fantastic as I remember. The previous times I have stopped, the service was friendly and efficient. This time however, the young lady working had a MAJOR attitude the second we walked in the door. She was unfriendly and unwelcoming. That's probably my last stop here at the original fried pie shop. I'll try the one down the road next time. read more

Back in the day when those fried pies were big and tasty? These are those pies on steroids. They are huge and bursting at the edges with all types of fillings. You can get fruit, creme, nut or a lunch/dinner pie (aka savory). They also have'm for breakfast. I was already bursting at the edges myself after my first meal at Lambert's next door, but who can resist a fried pie. Entering the door, we were immediately greeted with a "hi, y'all". I had to do a quick look around, I thought Paula Deen was in Sikeston. The staff was friendly as can be and explained all the offerings. They truly had the southern charm. Being stuffed, I had little room for pie, but had to give them a try. I went All-American and had myself a apple and cherry. I didn't eat them immediately, but they were tasty with a cold glass of milk when I got back to STL. When you're in Sikeston, do yourself a favor and stop by for a fried pie. These pies are very good and fresh. I loved the crust. My son tried pepperoni and cheese. It was a great quick lunch. I tried the chocolate cream pie and it was very good and my husband tried the cherry which was good as well. 3 for 3. I'm impressed! Great stop on a road trip but they are messy and i suggest a fork as they fall apart as you try to eat them and make a big mess. read more

I am a desserts fanatic so I absolutely could not leave Sikeston, MO without trying this place. The female employee was very friendly and after going through the menu I decided to go with the fried apple pie. Since there weren't any available I had to wait approximately 7-10 minutes for a fresh fried pie and I don't mind the wait, especially for a freshly dropped fried pie! As I was waiting, I was extremely surprised to hear that this place started out in Eureka, MO. I am alumni of Eureka High school so I'm very familiar with its community/town, which in someways reminds me of Sikeston, MO. It was quite shocking to hear that a fried pie shop didn't make it in a prideful, close knit , die hard eureka high school sports supporting town. Back to the pies, since my apple pie broke during its handling, the kind employee gave me a bonus complimentary pecan pie for the inconvenience. These pies are a good size for their price and taste delicious! The crust is soft, not overly flaky, buttery and chewy. Their contains the perfect filling ratio and the filling has the right amount of sweetness. I left feeling like this place is missing something and then I realized that what's missing is the "add on's." It would be nice to see this place eventually expand their fried pie experience by providing the option to add on a scoop or 2 of ice cream or whip cream with a speciality drizzle sauce. This is a great gem hidden by the large shadow of Lambert's next door. Most people who want to try this place probably don't have the appetite after eating at Lambert's. That was my predicament when I went to Lambert's on my way to Memphis. What I did was made a note of it and stopped by on my return from Memphis. It's located just a couple minutes off the highway. They carry all kinds of fried pies from fruit, breakfast style, chocolate,etc. I tried the pecan pie and thought it was fantastic. Ask if they have hot and fresh pies available when you visit. All the worker were friendly and explained how the operation works. Check this place out next time you're in the area. read more

Bad service, the pies were not hot. My mom got me a coconut pie but i wanted chocolate we had not left the store just simply went to a table with the box. I asked the lady could i swap out a pie for a chocolate because we purchased 20 and she said no because the box was already purchased. The best parts of a road trip are the new discoveries, in towns you've never before visited. The fried pie shop is a great illustration of this. I stopped here after a freeway sign beckoned me to try a fried pie. I couldn't decide on just one, and selected several to share with my family. The chocolate flavor was my favorite but the fruit selections of peach and blackberry were also very tasty. I highly recommend stopping for a road trip snack here. read more

Ok, read the reviews, thought I'll give it a try and see if it's as good as they say. NOPE! It's a gas station/restaurant which I've see a few, Subway, KFC, Taco Bell and been in a few and they aren't all bad. This one does not have a national food chain in it, it must be a local eating place. They had in the case, the restaurant was closed when we got there, chocolate, peach, apple, blackberry, blueberry, and a cream cheese with I think blueberry. Anyway, the case is not refrigerated and as the restaurant was closed, I don't know how long they had been in there. I bought 2 apple pies anyway, thinking food poisoning here I come. By the time we got back to the hotel, the grease from the pies had soaked thru the wrappers and all over the paper bag. Man were they greasy. A couple of bites are all we could handle, threw the rest away. The pie crust was soggy, greasy and too thin. The pie was flat, they are made too large ( can charge more money) for the amount of filling they have in them. I'm sorry but I make fried pies, my girl friend makes fried pies, I buy meat pies from the Indian stand and these do not compare at all. I can't believe the reviews. Evidently we bought pies on a day that wasn't a good pie day. Won't do this again. read more

Was waiting for my tour bus to meet me at lamberts cafe and found this little Jem next door . Had a wonderful mushroom & spinach pie made to order ! Was wonderful ! They do Serb breakfast pies all day and I bought 2 other pies blackberry and peach . They both were wonderful . They sell them by the dozen mixed up anyway you want them and comes on a platter. They even have them frozen and ready to go so you can bake them at home easily. If you get a chance stop by it's worth the stop Lamberts next-door they throw their biscuits around but these pies you really want to eat instead of through on the floor. read more

If you are traveling down I-55 and looking for a snack, this is an interesting option. Fresh fried pies (what's a fried pie you ask.... think of a Hostess fruit pie.... now think about what that would be like with much fresher ingredients and freshly fried). We had the peach, apple, and cheesecake. Peach was really good. Apple pretty good. Cheesecake had way too much cheesecake filing for our liking, but you can always squeeze some out. They also serve up sandwich versions of the pies, that I'll have to try someday, but they make those to order and have to wait a few minutes. Suggestion....you'll be tempted to grab them and eat them in the car. I recommend just taking a couple minutes and eat them there. Because they are fresh, they can get a little messy. We took ours to the car, and I just stopped and ate for a minute, so I wouldn't drip filling all over the place. 4 stars for the fun of finding something different then the same old gas station fair. And really the prices are good. But 3 stars on really everything else. After all, you still are eating a fried pie. Next time I'll try to savory food items and see if that gets me to nudge up to a 4 star. Really nice guy that attended to us. read more
