Decided it was about time to have my 1920s floor lamp rewired as it had stopped working a year or two ago. I took it into the Lamp Clinic based on other yelp reviews. The man gave me a receipt and told me he'd text me, I assumed he meant the price of the repair. After several days, I finally received a text saying the lamp was done, and I can come pick it up. I can say it was more than I'd hoped to pay, but less than what I feared I would pay. I will not say it was a bargain, but I feel it's worth it to have this heirloom back in operating condition. The shop is located on a fun little business corridor, and if you have a little extra time, I recommend walking up and down the street. read more

Addressing negative reviews here about the demeanor of the proprietors, I will say that they are business-like and not warm & fuzzy. These people are wonderful. I knocked over my favorite Stieffel floor lamp, that I had for many years. All I remembered was it was expensive and I could find no one who could repair it. My electrician recommended this place and it is close by, so we took it there. It is a truly one of a kind small place on Huntington Drive in San Moreno. Just going there was an experience. Every kind of vintage lamp you could imagine and great selection. Think unique gifts. I spent two weeks looking for a part for an antique light fixture. I couldn't find it anywhere. I went to Lamp Clinic and an incredibly patient man (I believe it's the owner) dug through box after box looking for the part. He found something similar, but it was too long for my fixture, so he custom cut and threaded it for me. Right there on the spot. No wait. Just incredible. What a jerk! I would give this guy no stars! Another lamp business referred me because he is "the only lamp repair business in the area." This mope behind the counter sold me a $5 inline lamp switch for over $16, and he didn't even take the time to see if the switch would fit! It didn't! Shame on me for not walking out of the store. Received extraordinary service from Victor. I brought in a low-voltage modernist lamp that someone in my household had taken to be repaired by who-knows-who. That repairperson had removed the transformer and replaced it w a 110v plug so apparently the innards of the lamp were 'charcoal.' I was nervous about taking my lamps here based on the reviews, but my experience was really good. I had a pair of antique lamps that needed to be repaired; one was smashed up during shipping and the other needed to be rewired. Originally, I took them to a different lighting shop with better reviews on Yelp, but that shop told me that if they repaired my lamps, it would be done at my own risk--in other words, if my lamps sustained further damage during the repair process (something cracked or broke, for instance), then the shop would not be responsible for it. Well, that was crazy, so I decided to try Lamp Clinic instead. They were great! They repaired both of my lamps perfectly and did so at a reasonable price. I would definitely recommend them if you have a similar, complex issue that not every lighting store is going to be able to deal with. last week, I was walking up Huntington Drive and noticed the Lamp Clinic with a sale sign. Being in San Marino, I thought this might be an uber expensive store, but the sale still intrigued me, so I walked in. I was amazed that the prices were so reasonable and affordable for the average family. I saw a floor lamp that would be perfect for the living room, but still needed the boss' approval (aka wife). Well, I brought her to the store, and she saw another lamp to her liking as well, so I gently bartered to get an additional savings for the purchase of two lamps, and was happy the salesman was able to sweeten the deal on already discounted floor lamps. Mind you this was the first day of the sale and near closing, but I feel anytime of day would have worked. The owner and I think his son were very pleasant and even gave us free fluorescent bulbs with the purchase. I am definitely shopping the family run stores, now that I've seen they can be as or more competitive than the big box stores. read more

I have been a Lamps Clinic customer for many years and never have been disappointed with either the service or the quality of the work. I have had two floor lamp bases refinished (beautifully!), a Tiffany lampshade repaired, and other not-very-small projects done there. Always totally satisfied. And the Lamps Clinic has had uncommon light bulbs when I've needed them. I do not understand customers who say that the employees are rude. I have used this store over the years for lamp repair and it has been okay. However recently I bought a lantern there which they ordered for me from a catalog. When I got it home the installer discovered one of the panes was broken in the corner. I went back and the proprietor, Greg, seemed suspicious that I had so somehow broken it which I of course had not. He told me he could replace it but I said in view of its fragile construction I didn't want another and wanted my money back. Immediately the three employees ganged up on me. Greg said he would have to charge me a forty percent restocking fee plus postage because that's what the manufacturer would charge him. If I didn't agree to that I was out of luck. When I argued that they wouldn't restock a broken item he just kept arguing that this was their policy. After several minutes I asked to see this policy in writing. He looked at the catalogue and couldn't find it and suggested I call the company which I immediately did from the store. The manufacturer said they had no restocking fee if the item was broken nor ever had had such a policy. When I tried to get Greg to talk to the woman he refused saying she had to call him direct. She said she couldn't as she had no call out. He finally agreed to call her back which he did. I could hear him talking to her and it became obvious she was telling him the same thing, that his money would be refunded so he could refund mine. He then told me he'd have to charge me $11.50 in postage to return the item. By that time I was glad to get out of there without one of them hitting me. Greg never apologized. He repeated again that this had always been their policy. If you want to be ganged up on and treated that way by all means shop there. read more

It truly takes allot to motivate me to write a review but some things just cannot be ignored. If you have a desire to be treated like a complete imbecile, then walk on into the Lamp Clinic for an experience. Not sure if this may be a cultural difference in terms of common courtesy and respect, but these guys are just plain rude and unhelpful doesn't even begin to describe. Don't dare touch anything on the shelves or evil eyes will penetrate your inner cerebellum. Questions are answered with nothing much than a thud. I felt like I was pushed out the door after they didn't have what I was looking for. Do yourself a favor and buy lamp supplies online or from Pasadena Lighting. I went to Lamps Clinic because I needed a hard to find European base light bulb and also because I needed glass lamp shade for my flush mount ceiling fixture. The light bulb that I needed only cost a couple of dollars which I was shocked at because it is a hard to find bulb and the glass lamp shade cost $19.99. The guys who work there were friendly and knew what they were doing and talking about. I believe the gentleman's name who helped me out was Greg. I ordered some chandelier candle covers from lamps clinic after finding them online. I received them and they did not fit my light fixture. Soon after receiving them I left for vacation. When I returned I went online to look and see where to mail them for a return because there was no paperwork about returns included in the package the items came in. They said you needed to email them. They responded to me by saying that it had been passed the 14 day return period so they would not give me any money back. There was nothing on my confirmation emails, email shipping confirmation or the receipt I received with my order that said I had to return items within 14 days. They said I could find the policy on their website. I have never known an internet retailer to have such a restrictive return policy that was not advertised anywhere on their emails or paperwork. There is no way to call them, you can only communicate by email. I had another order I returned to them within the 14 days and they only gave me a portion of my money back. They sited restocking fees. I would not order from them again. Their merchandise is just as you see it on their website, but their customer service is awful. Any company who treats customers like this will not be in business long term. read more

Manny G can copy and paste and type till the cows come home, it doesn't change the facts: Their website shows a diagram of a globe where the fitter dimension is shown to be the diameter of the globe opening. Manny G claims the 3 1/4 part of the 3 1/4 x 5 globe description measures the fixture opening; OK, I have a 3 1/4" fixture opening and the 3 1/4 x 5 globe they sent is too small to be secured. Manny G is sitting in his office claiming the 3" globe he sent fits in my 3 1/4" fixture; I'm standing next to said fixture supporting the too-small globe with my hand to keep it from crashing to the floor. I have another similar fixture (3 1/4" opening) and the globe opening diameter is 1/16" (not 1/4") less than the fixture opening; that fits perfectly. Manny G's "3 1/4" doesn't. "It would have been no problem if we had sent an incorrect item", he writes. Well, they did. read more

Brought my expensive outdoor light that had broken lightbulbs in the sockets to them because another lamp store recommended them. I tried to take them out myself with no luck. Instead of trying to sell me on another light or any other expensive services they simply took care of the problem at a very reasonable price. After only a couple of days I got back my light fixed and Elvis even went the extra mile to make new covers for the new fuses by painting them a matching color. Wow! Such bad customer service. Wanting to support local businesses, I stop by seeing that their sign said "lamp clinic". Wanted to get approximate cost for voltage conversion for some Italian lamps, but the guy already looked at me upset and said he can't give me a qoute. I was like, you can't? I had to initiate to ask him, so I'll have to bring it in, right? His attitude escalated for no reason and said, "YES, how am I suppose to give you an estimate if I don't SEE it." I said, I understand. I used to work at B&O and I would kindly insist our repair company see if before we give estimate. But if our client insist, we would give them a ball part from the cheapest to the highest but we can't guarantee. I told him, I won't hold him accountable but will it be $50-600 for voltage conversion or more. If it will be more than $1000, we will package the lamps and just ship it back to use in Europe or china where my boss has a house there. I even offer to take detail pictures for those are delicate lamps and I don't want to break it and be liable for this $2500-$3500/lamp driving the lamps there. The staff stepped back and looked more upset than ever. At that point I felt it is just not worth the fight, and told him thank you then I will just see if I can find else where that can help me get approximate cost. I walked away and as I was almost out the door, he screamed, "ANYTHING ELSE?" I relied, "no." Gosh, so uncalled for...If you want someone to ruin your day, go in. Haha. read more
