I have eaten at Lam's several times & the food is always fabulous! They have a large menu & they have the best potstickers I have ever eaten. Their noodles are also the best I have had. I always get Chinese food on Christmas, and this year I came here. Besides Dumpling Lady, it was the best Chinese food I've had in Charlotte. The Sichuan wontons were similar to the kind at Dumpling Lady, but bigger, and contained shrimp as well as pork. The Hong Kong soft shell crab was amazing: deliciously spiced, with a crunchy yet soft texture. If this place wasn't so far from my house, I'd come here all the time. read more

Beef tripe was very good portion for take out was only a few bites. The flavor of the tripe with the addition of the chili oil was perfect. Szechuan Dumplings where literally amazing highway recommended this as a nice appetizer. Pork with lotus root was just okay, it was a huge portion with tons of lotus root and could taste the garlic sauce. Is you are looking for Szechuan food I would recommend. read more

Well what can I say. Getting a bigger place isn't always a good thing. So we've been to the new location 3 times. Every time we go there is a problem with our food coming late. One time we went and waited 2.5 hours for a lobster and finally left. They kept tell us is was coming after a 1.5 hours!!! Manger has no control over the kitchen. This last time appetizer came out fast! I was happy maybe they got the kitchen fixed. It went down hill from there. My wife's food finally showed up 1.5 hours after we ordered and 30 minutes after everyone else's food came. Plus we returned it because it wasn't cooked right. The seafood was rubbery and had no taste. Of course the manager came over and took it off the bill but no empathy at all. The sad thing we were celebrating 2 birthdays and my son was looking forward to dinner. The place was a little more than half full. Sad to say not going back. Good food but not worth the. Looooong wait. You would think they would want you in and out in a hour. Maybe they need a visit from restaurant impossible!!! read more

The deception was real! I can appreciate beautifully plated food because we do, after all, eat with our eyes 1st right? But then, when the time comes to insert food in mouth, the chow best be delicious! I drove 40 minutes to give this restaurant a try. Do I think it was worth it? Unfortunately, not. The chow: Szechuan Dumplings- zero flavor, zero heat, zero numbness. Szechuan is know for their extremely spicy peppers and numbing peppercorns. I guess they weren't invited to the party. The shrimp and chicken inside these dumplings were not seasoned. The oil was red, but not spicy. I had to drown my dumplings in soy sauce to experience some sort of flavor. Beef Shank App-covered in the same oil as the Szechuan dumplings, same topping, same disappointment. Kung Poa Chicken-my friend ordered this dish, took one bite, and didn't touch it again. The so-called chicken was minced small like the peanuts, had this weird soft coating around it, had an awkward chewiness, and tasted nothing like chicken. The fear factor went up a notch. Flat Noodle Dish w/ Shrimp-decent wok flavor. This saved the meal for me. If you want to try more authentic Szechuan food, check out Chuan Wang Fu and ask for the "other menu." I met a friend here for lunch a few weeks ago and I was so disappointed. The hostess/server was nice, but the food left all sorts of bad tastes in my mouth. We ordered the Szechuan dumplings and they were supposed to be very spicy, but they had barely any heat. There was just a lot of oil on the plate which looked nice, but didn't really serve any purpose. The filling inside was very bland as well. The Beef Shank was just as pretty and just as meh. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken and it looked amazing. I started to eat it and I'm not sure how the chicken was prepared, but it had a sort of gooey coating around it and it was very chewy. I took two bites of it and couldn't bring myself to finish it. It was also very disappointing because I again expected heat and got none. The fried rice wasn't bad, though. As I said, the service was fine, but it was definitely not worth the almost 45 minute drive. There are much better options available, in my opinion. read more

This is not your traditional cart rolling dim sum restaurant. Dim sum is pricy and taste okay, nothing special about it. Service was subpar, but typical of Asian restaurants services. Our waitress was nowhere to be found for refills or nowhere to be found when we something. But other staff was willing to help us when they came around. We ordered chicken Lo Mein and Kung Pao chicken, and they were okay too. Nothing special either. I wouldn't come back and would have a better meal at Rivers (An Asian Buffet restaurant). read more

I was so hopeful because everyone rated it so high - maybe I had an off night but I won't be going back! First their sanitation rating is only a B - and I saw them dump unused white rice back into the vat?! Also it was so hot in there that cannot be sanitary. I had to step outside. The food was gelatinous and one of our entrees was drowned in sauce to the point where you couldn't taste the meat. Maybe that's why? The other dishes had zero taste. I got the cauliflower special with Chinese pork and sausage and boy was I excited - it looked like they made it with the leftover pieces of meat from other dishes - first of all so little meat I had to search for it and it was so overdone it looked like it had been sitting there for hours not to mention the cauliflower had zero taste. The soup was good and my mom liked her dumplings and the up charge for brown rice was ridiculous! Almost $15 for four typical rice portions? Its so hard to find good Chinese takeout in Charlotte/Matthews area and they are so expensive compared to other takeouts where I can actually taste the food - We won't be going back. read more

The most authentic Chinese food I have had in North Carolina. The spicy Szechuan dumplings were so fresh and so good I devoured them before I could take a photo. Here's the other perfect menu items i tried: The ma-po tofu was classic with little bits of pork, The Yu-Xiang pork was fresh, slightly sweet and slightly vinegary. Authentic Chinese food with familiar dishes. I tried the beef brisket clay pot that had 4 chilies . Husband is Korean, so heat is not a factor. I do not recommend this dish. Flavor was a little bit odd. What I taste it was ginger, spicy and bitter flavor but the meat was very bland and needed salt. The beef chow fun was good. Nice thick noodles with tender beef and bean sprouts. I will try the seafood chow fun next time. The stir-fry green beans came with minced pork. very flavorful. Definitely recommend it for vegetable dish. The best dish was the salty and spicy prawns. This is the best one we've had in Charlotte area. The prawns come with the heads and you eat everything. It was nice and crispy and flavor was spot on. Same as salt and pepper shrimps. Whole shrimps crispy fried and then sautéed with garlic, salt, and black peppers. I recommend coming here. I do not recommend trying the clay pot dishes unless you are used to the flavors. Worth the drive. read more

The dim sum were mediocre, and the chicken in a chicken dish was too soft and tasted weird. The dim sum was pretty bad. Mr. Chef, spend a few days in NYC's Chinatown. Even Miami and Phoenix AZ have better dim sum. I'm very disappointed. We need good dim sum! read more

Horrible service. Waitress never asked for cocktail orders after being told to bring water for the table. Took food orders and never returned to explain why 2/3 of table was served at least 20 minutes before others. One ridiculously small bowl of rice served for an entire table of 5 adults and $1.50 charged for rice to accompany a "to go" order. The waitress NEVER returned to inquire about our needs and the hostess had to be engaged to get our bill and leftover containers after it was obvious that we were finished with dinner for over 30 minutes. The manager interceded and removed the charge for the rice on the take out order and deducted 10% of bill. Lame bandaid for a horrible experience. read more
