Orange Flavored Chicken with Egg Roll and White Rice
    Jenita M.

This is a decent spot for Chinese. I first tried the orange chicken. It wasn't too bad. I didn't care of the finger-nail sized orange peels throughout the meal. I picked them out. That next weekend I got combination plates especially since they ran $10 each. I was hoping portions weren't small and they were not. So I got the garlic shrimp and Szechuan chicken in both spicy. Neither were spicy. The sauce was light tasting. For the value it was nice but not much taste. They seem to sell quite a bit even pad Thai and now hibachi. I don't see any reviews on Hibachi yet but hoping it'll be better than what I've had this far because I can't find good hibachi I'm Charlotte. You can order online but double check at times because the system may be down. Plus the hours split between lunch apart dinner.

Szechuan wonton appetizer with spicy peanut satay, $7.95
    Peter M.

Comfortable and casual place to find Chinese-American fare with all the usual suspects. Mitch K recommended the Szechuan wonton appetizer at $7.95. Gently steamed and covered in a peanut satay sauce with chilli oil makes a wonderful start to your meal. Good call Mitch! The food was prepared excellently, well seasoned, and served piping hot. The hot mustard on the side will smoke your sinuses. I loved it. I put them right there with Boading and Lam's. Should they have offered more regional Szechuan dishes (e.g. Taste of Shu and Lam's) then I'd give the extra star. Excellent food, though. Overlook the low-star reviews from the Yelp haters and you'll discover a great little place to dine. Has my wok smokin' hot on my "Give 'em a whirl" meter. Xie Xie.

This used to be my go-to place for Chinese, but the food quality has declined under the new owners. Ordering is easy and the staff is friendly, but I sure miss the smoky lo mein

    Chicken & Broccoli

Today's lunch was my first visit here and I discovered that, other than a rather dark dining room, there's a lot to like about it. They offer the usual lunch menu choices ranging from $8 to $10. I went with the chicken and broccoli, and especially appreciated the fact that whole grain brown rice and crab rangoons were available options as sides in addition to the typical spring rolls and egg rolls. Everything arrived quickly, was piping hot and was delicious. Service was friendly and attentive, and although I don't normally prefer a dimly lit dining area for lunch, I did find it very comfortable and tastefully decorated. I especially enjoyed the soft yoga-like music that helped make my lunch very peaceful. They do need to improve their 93.5 sanitation score though, and as long as such a low score does not become a trend, I can see myself becoming a regular here.

    Singapore Noodles here are excellent.

Quick service and the food is always hot and fresh! They have a wide range of all day meal specials which are a great value.

Surprised by the quality and service. All 5/5. Well run and attentive staff. No corners cut on the food or portions. Great Wall is in my rear view now after 35 years of patronage. This is my new spot.

Fast and friendly service. Take out and dine in available. Orange chicken is spicy . One of the best General Tso chicken we have had. Will go back and try the other dishes.

I actually loved the bright, comfy vibe of the place. Thought it could use a bit louder music to fill the space. I ordered the Dan Dan Noodles, Rainbow Dumplings and this Mango Jasmine Tea drink...and they were all pretty good. Still, I was surprised how my bill totaled about 35 bucks. Normally, I'm not too surprised by the pricing (even for lunch), but it felt a bit high...given that everything was served on paper and plastic wares. I did like how they have these DIY take-home plastic wares accessible and ready to go...so some points for that! Overall, it's just a casual eatery...not a full scale restaurant. I prefer full scale service, complete with nicely plated presentations, but this type of DIY eatery is just something that's becoming more common.

It was pushing 97 degrees outside, and after a long afternoon of computer work and errands, I finally stopped in for the crispy scallion chicken and pan-fried dumplings. Huge portions. Fair prices. Friendly people. Consistently solid food every single time. The best part today honestly might have been the air conditioning. They've got a cool, comfortable space to wait while your order is prepared, which felt amazing after baking outside all day. I forgot to take food photos because I was hungry and ready to get home, but trust me, they pack these takeout containers like a game of Jenga. Nothing spills. Nothing shifts. Everything is packed tight and thoughtfully. Only tiny downside: the dumpling sauce goes into the same container as the hot dumplings, so by the time I got home, it had softened the bottom a bit. Still, the dumpling wrappers are thick and crispy enough to survive the trip. Into the air fryer later they go. One warning: the parking lot can be chaotic since it sits right off busy Providence Road. Just be patient. Cars are constantly pulling in, backing out, blocking entrances, and today people were absolutely treating red lights like suggestions. Saw it multiple times, including a bus cutting across traffic when I had the right-of-way. Charlotte drivers... please relax a little. That said, the food made the trip worth it. Taipei Express is one of those dependable local spots that always comes through when you need a solid meal without spending a fortune. Life is too short to not eat well. I've been chasing good, authentic (or nostalgic?) Chinese food, and I finally found some while visiting the area. The space is bright, open, and comfortable. Unfortunately, the actual experience was nothing like the hype. First, parking is a nightmare. I would seriously add an extra 20-30 minutes just to find a spot. Once we finally made it inside, we waited another 30 minutes to be seated. After sitting down, it took close to another 30 minutes before anyone came to take our order, and then roughly another 30 minutes for the food to arrive. So you're potentially looking at well over an hour and a half of waiting and inconvenience before you really get to eat. And the dim sum cart that brought us there in the first place? We never saw one. They did have a dim sum menu that we could order from, but that was not the experience being promoted in the videos we had seen. The food itself was just okay. Nothing was terrible, but nothing justified the hype or the amount of time and hassle involved. If you've had good dim sum in places like New York, Toronto, Los Angeles, or San Francisco, this isn't remotely in the same league. Between the parking, the long waits, slow service, missing dim sum cart, and average food, I genuinely don't understand the crowds. Hard pass for us. Once and done.

It is busy enough that plenty of other people had also called in for takeout. The price was higher than I thought it would be by a significant margin; I thought something was off but then rechecking their menu I saw it was indeed $20 for a vegetable entree. On the upside, they did offer brown rice at no extra charge. Still, I'll get three meals out of it and as someone who eats a lot of takeout, this was not a great value. In terms of quality, I was thrilled to find that they offered a stir-fried okra dish. This is a ubiquitous Indian dish, and of course okra is common throughout the tropics globally, but I'd never seen this offered at a Chinese restaurant before. And the rapid cooking technique typical of the cuisine produced a delightfully crisp vegetable, which went great with a black bean sauce and some very hot dried chilis. On the other hand, their interpretation of ma po tofu had some fermented broad beans but minimal vegetables (sometimes you get mushrooms or peas or at least some leeks or something) and no numbing sensation. They had a bean curd roll dish that I enjoyed, and some quality dumplings. Overall, not huge portions and a mix of okay to great quality.
