Hot day. Costco run complete. Charlotte traffic testing everyone's patience. That meant one thing: comfort food stop at Taipei Express. It was pushing 97 degrees outside, and after a long afternoon of computer work and errands, I finally stopped in for the crispy scallion chicken and pan-fried dumplings. Huge portions. Fair prices. Friendly people. Consistently solid food every single time. The best part today honestly might have been the air conditioning. They've got a cool, comfortable space to wait while your order is prepared, which felt amazing after baking outside all day. I forgot to take food photos because I was hungry and ready to get home, but trust me, they pack these takeout containers like a game of Jenga. Nothing spills. Nothing shifts. Everything is packed tight and thoughtfully. Only tiny downside: the dumpling sauce goes into the same container as the hot dumplings, so by the time I got home, it had softened the bottom a bit. Still, the dumpling wrappers are thick and crispy enough to survive the trip. Into the air fryer later they go. One warning: the parking lot can be chaotic since it sits right off busy Providence Road. Just be patient. Cars are constantly pulling in, backing out, blocking entrances, and today people were absolutely treating red lights like suggestions. Saw it multiple times, including a bus cutting across traffic when I had the right-of-way. Charlotte drivers... please relax a little. That said, the food made the trip worth it. Taipei Express is one of those dependable local spots that always comes through when you need a solid meal without spending a fortune. Life is too short to not eat well. One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Charlotte. They have a location over by Myers Park and a new location in Indian land. They have the best scallion chicken in the city. They also sell their sauces so you can purchase extra sauce to take home. I love this place and the owners are super nice people. They also used to own the house of Taipei in Huntersville and I would eat there quite often when I lived in the lake Norman area. Do yourself a favor and try their food. read more

If you want Chinese takeout, this is the place for you!! I really enjoyed the vegetable lo mein, noodles were soft but I wish it was a bit more saucy. The beef & broccoli was perfect, the beef was tender and the sauce was paired magically with the rice or with the lo mein noodles. I enjoyed my hot & sour soup that had tofu, pork, and wontons inside of it! Total for the 4 items was $34 and leftovers for seconds! The staff was really friendly and told us it would be a 30-40 minute wait, but we ordered inside and our food was done in 20-25 minutes. Would come again!! read more

Fast, yummy, comfort food. Small parking lot, but packed for a Sunday evening. Seems like there's a regular line of folks waiting for pick, up but the small dining area had some seating. It's a very family, fast paced quick service spot. But they hit the spot. The orange chicken was nice and crispy, came out piping hot. Had to give it a minute to cool. So sorry that our first experience with you did not go well, but here is why. It was take-away. We both ordered combinations of meats with veggies. Won Ton soup, Chicken with Black Bean Sauce and Shrimp with mixed vegetables. The soup was flavorless and the won tons stuffing was not identifiable. In some won tons it was a square-shaped and somewhat stringy. In other cases it might have been chicken or pork...it was hard to identify as they were both tasteless. Sorry to say that both of us, after a few bites and prior to even opening the steamed rice containers, looked at each other and asked: "are you going to eat yours?" We both found the combos flavorless mush. Even the vegetables seemed to be mushy and over cooked. Something is wrong, as we both enjoy Chinese foods and frequently visit many of those around us. Yes, we will try some of the offered Taipei Express combinations, later. But for now we will order select items to try them before re-entering combination land. read more

Every single time I'm out babysitting, or getting home late to doordash, taipei express is what I choose. They are so fast and the food is fresh, hot and delicious. This place has probably the best Chinese food I've found in Charlotte. The sesame beef was crispy and flavorful. The egg rolls were delicious. Portion sizes are great - easily 2.5 meals. I had the New T chicken and it was very disappointing and nothing compared to the picture on their main website. It was a soggy mess. I think this place is an example of you get what you pay for as if you find something simple here you like stick with it because it's not all good so don't venture out. This is a small Chinese restaurant near midtown of Charlotte. Parking is very limited, only 4 spots in front of the business. Once inside, there is air conditioning, and even though its fast food, they will cook up your order quickly, and bring it to your table within 10 minutes. The place is clean, restrooms are decent, and service is very friendly. Watch out for people who park too close to your driver's side, it happened today. read more

We've ordered a couple of times and yes, while the scallion chicken is pretty good, my favorite dish here has to be the beef with onions. You actually get onions here, unlike the zero scallions I can find amongst my scallion chicken. Parking is extremely dire, beware. read more

This is my favorite fast-food Chinese spot in Charlotte. The sesame tofu and eggplant (add broccoli) are always flavorful and consistent in quality. The only real downside? The rice. White or fried, it's dry, hard, and tastes old. Fried rice masks it a little, but not by much. If I judged just on rice, it'd be one star - but the rest of the food earns a four. This is our go to as of right now when craving Chinese in Charlotte. I still have yet to find a place that has that true Chinese take out taste. Taipei is always fresh and hot. They are are super friendly and we usually don't have to wait longer than 10 minutes for our order. This visit we got sesame chicken, general tso chicken fried rice and an egg roll. My boyfriend devoured him sesame chicken. Literally left nothing in the bowl. The general tso was surprisingly good. Not as spicy as I would expect and also had mushrooms which I didn't expect but nonetheless I enjoyed. Fried rice could use a bit more umph. Egg roll was okay. Wish it was a little bigger. After craving Chinese for a few days, I decided to check out Taipei Express while in Charlotte. Based on the glowing reviews, I was expecting some amazing food. However, this was not the case. I ordered the chicken with broccoli and fried rice. It came out pipping hot, and I dug in! Unfortunately, the chicken was super dry, and the rest of the vegetables lacked flavor and umph. Also, there wasn't a lot of sauce. The rice was tolerable, but it just wasn't much without the chicken and vegetables. The meal overall left me and my stomach wanting more. Ordered takeout, and prices on the website are not accurate. I paid 50% more than I was expecting. Egg rolls were tiny, and due to pricing being wrong online, I'm not sure how much they were but they were small and bland. Orange beef was breaded or something? It was not good. I lived around here for years and never went . Ended up moving and just so happened to be in the area the other day . I came in around lunch time . I ordered the chicken and broccoli over white rice with an order of shrimp fried rice . I initially got it to go but I was starving so I sat down and ate . The food was HOT! When I called in our order of: garlic eggplant, orange chicken, and chicken lo mein, I was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. Sure enough, by the time I parked in one of their parking spaces out front, my food was ready. For those dishes the total came out to about $30. The portion sizes were good and we had left overs for the next day. Overall, the quality of the food was good. Nothing blew my hair back but it definitely hit the Chinese food craving spot. One confusing thing I did note was that when I called in my order, the lady taking the order asked if I wanted spicy or no spicy on the eggplant and orange chicken. With my last review in 2013, and having visited several times over the last couple years, Taipei Express definitely deserves an update review. After moving closer to the area, and not too many Chinese restaurants around I gave Taipai another visit, and since then have picked up and ordered several times. My go to order always includes a Vegetable Spring Roll and Fried Rice, sometimes chicken fried rice, sometimes shrimp fried rice. The spring roll is one of the best rolls I have had. Always fried to perfection with a perfect mix of cabbage and veggies. The fried rice is a generous portion and includes peas, carrots, onion and egg. I love the added onion to my fried rice. Most recently I have tried the Taipei Delight, a mix of chicken and shrimp with veggies in a brown sauce. The portion is nice with a generous amount of veggies including broccoli, carrots, snow peas, which I love. So happy I checked them out again and can say they are a good Chinese spot for pick up! read more

The Pork Fried Rice could have been it's own meal! We got it thinking I wouldn't get rice with my dish but they gave white rice. Still glad I got a side of the pork fried rice. The Egg Rolls were small and not much filling at all - mostly fried breading. Same with the Crab Rangoon. It was all dough and little filling. Got the famous scallion chicken, which was pretty good...fame-worthy, however, it is not. I ordered extra spicy and got no spice. I wanted to love it. Though Taipei Express is a few minutes away, it's been 5 years since we ordered dinner. The shrimp shu-man type appetizer was delicious - excellent texture and taste. The entrees, however, were greasy... heavy. A chicken dish and a green bean stir fry arrived steaming away in classic To-Go containers: black plastic bottoms with clear tops. Both over-oiled. Sweet and Sour soup had bland taste and sadly arrived in another typical plastic container. Hot soup in a plastic container that maybe just maybe is not free of various plastic-related carcinogens? In this COVID world, I've started to branch out and try different take out spots. I believe I've passed this place numerous times on Providence but never have been inside to check it out. They are delivery and take out only at this time, but it was super easy to call and place an order. Ordered some steamed dumplings and the crispy scallion chicken. The portions are very generous and I was able to stretch it for three meals even. Being on Providence, it's a prime location and easy to get in and out of (depending on which direction you are coming from). Taipei Express will definitely be in my rotation especially when I'm craving Chinese food. Excited to try more menu items.
