    陳皮雞 Orange Chicken

Fast, yummy, comfort food. Small parking lot, but packed for a Sunday evening. Seems like there's a regular line of folks waiting for pick, up but the small dining area had some seating. It's a very family, fast paced quick service spot. But they hit the spot. The orange chicken was nice and crispy, came out piping hot. Had to give it a minute to cool. The broccoli was also done really well! Not mushy and still had a good crunch. May be a regular spot for a quick and comforting dinner.

This is a small Chinese restaurant near midtown of Charlotte. Parking is very limited, only 4 spots in front of the business. Once inside, there is air conditioning, and even though its fast food, they will cook up your order quickly, and bring it to your table within 10 minutes. The place is clean, restrooms are decent, and service is very friendly. Watch out for people who park too close to your driver's side, it happened today.

    General Tso

I come to Taipei express often and the food is normally good. Yesterday I spent $35 on two general Tso chicken it was over fried and the color was off. I will add a picture for my review. I got sick off of this meal and I am not happy about the quality.

This is our go to as of right now when craving Chinese in Charlotte. I still have yet to find a place that has that true Chinese take out taste. Taipei is always fresh and hot. They are are super friendly and we usually don't have to wait longer than 10 minutes for our order. This visit we got sesame chicken, general tso chicken fried rice and an egg roll. My boyfriend devoured him sesame chicken. Literally left nothing in the bowl. The general tso was surprisingly good. Not as spicy as I would expect and also had mushrooms which I didn't expect but nonetheless I enjoyed. Fried rice could use a bit more umph. Egg roll was okay. Wish it was a little bigger. It's a good place if the craving hits. We will be back.

    Sesame chicken and orange beef

Ordered takeout, and prices on the website are not accurate. I paid 50% more than I was expecting. Egg rolls were tiny, and due to pricing being wrong online, I'm not sure how much they were but they were small and bland. Orange beef was breaded or something? It was not good. Sesame chicken came in massive pieces due to multiple pieces being breaded together. It was okay. A friend recommended to get the non breaded items, so might try again for some chicken and broccoli or something.

Be going here since they opened. New owners kept everything the same. Parking is tight. Most get carry out. Worked in area and walked here.

Always my favorite place to go when I start to miss home and need some nostalgia and that home cooked meal feeling. My other favorite (not pictured) includes: Mango or watermelon jasmine tea, beef stew with rice, dan dan noodles, tornado potato, honestly any of the appetizer/street foods, home-made soy milk. I actually loved the bright, comfy vibe of the place. Thought it could use a bit louder music to fill the space. I ordered the Dan Dan Noodles, Rainbow Dumplings and this Mango Jasmine Tea drink...and they were all pretty good. Still, I was surprised how my bill totaled about 35 bucks. Normally, I'm not too surprised by the pricing (even for lunch), but it felt a bit high...given that everything was served on paper and plastic wares. I did like how they have these DIY take-home plastic wares accessible and ready to go...so some points for that! Overall, it's just a casual eatery...not a full scale restaurant. I prefer full scale service, complete with nicely plated presentations, but this type of DIY eatery is just something that's becoming more common.

I've been chasing good, authentic (or nostalgic?) Chinese food, and I finally found some while visiting the area. The space is bright, open, and comfortable. The menu is wide-ranging with lots of Asian options. They have carts if you'd like to get items that way. We ordered off the menu. We took a ride share, so I'm not sure about the parking situation. The area is walkable. Love: General Tso's chicken (sauce as I remembered, crispy, fresh), fried rice (cooked just right), Boba tea (delicious) Like: service (kind, helpful, left without checking on us one last time with the check)

Unfortunately, the actual experience was nothing like the hype. First, parking is a nightmare. I would seriously add an extra 20-30 minutes just to find a spot. Once we finally made it inside, we waited another 30 minutes to be seated. After sitting down, it took close to another 30 minutes before anyone came to take our order, and then roughly another 30 minutes for the food to arrive. So you're potentially looking at well over an hour and a half of waiting and inconvenience before you really get to eat. And the dim sum cart that brought us there in the first place? We never saw one. They did have a dim sum menu that we could order from, but that was not the experience being promoted in the videos we had seen. The food itself was just okay. Nothing was terrible, but nothing justified the hype or the amount of time and hassle involved. If you've had good dim sum in places like New York, Toronto, Los Angeles, or San Francisco, this isn't remotely in the same league. Between the parking, the long waits, slow service, missing dim sum cart, and average food, I genuinely don't understand the crowds. Hard pass for us. Once and done.

It is busy enough that plenty of other people had also called in for takeout. The price was higher than I thought it would be by a significant margin; I thought something was off but then rechecking their menu I saw it was indeed $20 for a vegetable entree. On the upside, they did offer brown rice at no extra charge. Still, I'll get three meals out of it and as someone who eats a lot of takeout, this was not a great value. In terms of quality, I was thrilled to find that they offered a stir-fried okra dish. This is a ubiquitous Indian dish, and of course okra is common throughout the tropics globally, but I'd never seen this offered at a Chinese restaurant before. And the rapid cooking technique typical of the cuisine produced a delightfully crisp vegetable, which went great with a black bean sauce and some very hot dried chilis. On the other hand, their interpretation of ma po tofu had some fermented broad beans but minimal vegetables (sometimes you get mushrooms or peas or at least some leeks or something) and no numbing sensation. They had a bean curd roll dish that I enjoyed, and some quality dumplings. Overall, not huge portions and a mix of okay to great quality.
