I enjoyed what I ordered but my husband was not a fan of the general tso chicken. It was okay but it was dried and didn't have enough sauce on it. Can't speak to the service since we did to go. This is my absolute go to place for Mapo tofu in Charlotte. They have very large dinner servings and awesome prices! They will customize your order if you have allergies or love the spice. Here's why I love them apparently their mom has my number saved in the phone so when I call she answers the phone and says "Rebecca you Mapo right.. do you want pork or no pork?" You want rice? This is the best Chinese lunch spot it Charlotte. Hot, fast, fresh and delicious. I've been going there for 10 years now.

I called at 2:45 the menu says orders are accepted 15mins before closing time which is 3pm. The lady who answered said the order could no longer be taken because they were closing soon and the computer could no longer print the order. I would understand if it was 2:46 past the 15 minutes grace period. If it is in writing I believe they should stick to their word. I typically enjoy their food but this has left me frustrated! She was unwilling to take the charges off saying that's what the computer does and they're not paying for it. After looking for a local place to order Chinese food for New Year's Eve, we opted for Best Wok based on its Yelp reviews. It's next door to one of our favorite take-out places, New Zealand Cafe, which is always incredibly busy. We easily placed an order at Best Wok for what is a probably a busy night for them and picked it up rather quickly (only 15 minutes later). I usually order something spicy and unique, but I was in the mood for Sesame Chicken that night, which always includes a lot of broccoli. It was definitely a good choice, and because it was such a BIG portion, I was able to make two meals out of it -- one dinner and one lunch. It was just as delicious reheated. We also split an order of the Crag Rangoons, which were good. We'll definitely be back to Best Wok for future orders of takeout. It's affordable, quick, and delicious. The chef is in the kitchen directing people and he listens to the order. Hunan chicken, szechuan anything. Heat level is what you want, but don't go above 8, for the love of your insides. We were happy to see that they were still open late until 10pm despite COVID-19. Many of the restaurants in the area had closed by 8pm or 9pm. They are currently only doing take-out. The owner's nephew was super nice about giving us a generous amount of fried rice. My husband had General Chicken ($10.95) and despite the warning from the cashier about the dish being spicy and despite all the red peppers, the meal was actually hardly spicy at all. It was absolutely delicious. My own meal was not as impressive though. I had Sweet and Sour Pork ($7.75 for medium size), and the pieces of meat were actually pieces of mostly air. Needless to say, I was disappointed. Staff was friendly, food was prepared quickly, but my husband ended up having a better meal than I did. read more

On my quest to discover decent Chinese food in Charlotte (how can such a big town have such a good Chinese food drought??), my search took me to Best Wok, tucked off Monroe and Sardis Road North, right next door to New Zealand Cafe. I got excited when we walked up a few minutes before noon and were greeted with a line out the door. If they're this crowded, they have to be doing something right... Right?!! I ordered the mixed vegetable lunch special and added chicken for $1. Because I'm high maintenance, I also asked for garlic sauce instead of the brown sauce it usually comes with. Lunch comes with fried rice and your choice of an egg roll or chicken wings. I went with the egg roll and wasn't disappointed -- it and the rice were both pretty tasty! The main dish was also really good! Veggies were fresh and crisp, it was a good sized portion (enough for left overs, so ask for it to go so you already have the box!), it was not drowning in sauce. My only complaint is that the garlic sauce was on the sweet side while I was expecting/hoping for spicy. I'll be back for sure! Looking forward to trying the sesame chicken. My friend ordered that and I had total order envy! ***Edit to include my second visit. I went for the sesame chicken this time and holy cow, y'all! The sesame chicken is to die for! Perfectly crunchy with big, fresh pieces of broccoli. The fried rice perfectly sops up the sweet and spicy sauce. And the egg rolls are still killer. Best Wok is one of the better Chinese Take Out Restaurants in Charlotte...and I have tried a lot. Located off of Monroe in a strip mall it can be missed, but keep in mind it is a stop you should make. Best Wok is mainly take out, but they do have a few tables if you choose to eat in. Because I don't live in the area we decided to eat there. For those who choose to eat in, order at the counter and your food will be brought to you. I started with the Wonton Soup, fabulous! Steaming hot with two wontons that were very flavorful. Next a Spring Roll. Although a little greasy, cooked just right with a crispy shell and cooked veggies inside. For my entree, I chose the Triple Delight. Beef, Chicken and Shrimp with Mixed Vegetables in a Spicy Brown Sauce. Whoa, it was huge! But I will say the Vegetables were cooked perfectly and I loved the brown sauce. As for the proteins, they were skimpy on the shrimp but overall a good dish. As we enjoyed dinner we did realize it is definitely a take out restaurant with a lot of regulars that the owners own. Funny enough the alterations place is the very same place I used to go to growing up it must have moved from when it was over by the food lion across from Monroe and when there was a movie store where you would drive thru and drop off your VHS! I found Alert Alterations! I digress. The sesame chicken was delicious and spilling out of the sectioned container I ordered with the egg roll, and an order of the crab Rangoon. My friend had me pick up an order for her. Note $10 min if paying with a card. It was popping at their reopen for the dinner pick up for 4:30pm I took a late lunch thankfully.
