Review is based on what I got food wise. It's only getting 2 star because the egg rolls were solid. The egg rolls were actually good. Probably could've given a little more of the sweet dipping sauce but egg rolls were solid. The bun bo hue was not great. I knew I took a risk ordering this northern dish in Sioux Falls of all places but they had Vietnamese eating here so I had Hope. But man did it disappoint. It was basically hot water with 4-6 slices of beef with chili on thrown on. Not a single attempt to make it even remotely close to what bun bo hue is supposed to be. This place must be well known by the locals, I was surprised to find it as busy as it was at 3:30 pm on a Friday afternoon. Pho is good, I like that when I order the rare round steak it comes out I can add it to my bowl myself. The waitress/hostess was attentive and fast. She never left and dirty dish site as soon as people were done eating she was picking up the dishes and wiping the tables down. It has a small parking lot for maybe 6 cars, put there is plenty of street parking if you don't mind that. Very clean and quiet, I enjoy this kind of atmosphere. read more

I'm so sad. I was in the North part of Sioux Falls yesterday and thought I'd have lunch at Lam's. Such a disappointment. I ordered the appetizer sampler, which was OK, but the Pho, the Pho has gone way down hill. I ordered the Spicy Pho with all 3 meats. The server brought the "Vegetable plate" for my Pho. It had some sliced cabbage, one sprig of Cilantro and one 1/8 of a lime slice... No Thai Basil, no Jalapeno, hardly any fresh lime and some sliced cabbage. Maybe they don't include Jalapeno with the spicy Pho, but I'm pretty sure they used to. And who serves Pho with Cilantro instead of Thai Basil???? The appetizer was OK. The egg rolls were good as well as the Banh Bao, the sweet chili sauce was good and the peanut sauce was quite good. The spring roll, however, was rubbery and lacked flavor. Now, about the Pho... It came out and the bowl was half full. There was a good amount of noodle for the amount of the broth, BUT, I think I had two pieces of Brisket, meatball and thin round steak each... The broth was not spicy and couldn't taste the lemon grass. The broth was bland, didn't get any Star Anise flavor or really any of the warm spices Pho is know for. They had homemade chili sauce at the table, but no Hoisin or Siracha. On my way in I noticed a sign that they no longer take checks as a form of payment. I got my bill, and returned it with my credit card. I was shocked to find that they have about a 4% credit card fee. Also, why does the final amount include that which I am supposed to tip on? I'm not sure if this is on my bill as the server didn't return it. I didn't notice it and I'm a detail person, hence noticing the check sign on the way in. On the way out, I looked for a sign stating they have a credit card fee and found none. I get that costs are going up, but tell me if your going to charge a BUNCH for using a credit card (It must be a bunch since you don't want to absorb it). Buy smaller bowls, so my portion looks like a complete dish! Don't skimp on the traditional spices like Thai Basil, lemon grass and Star Anise! You took an amazing product and rather than being upfront, you ruined it by being cheap, cutting out the details that make it great! read more

We went to Lam Restaurant. Customer service was good. Food was horrible our fried rice can our very plain, very hard as it was made out of very old rice sitting in the counter for day. My son even stated that the rice was burnt and pick out burnt rice grain. Bun bo hue was very disappointed as it doesn't seem more like a clear broth vermicelli noodle instead. Both pho and bun Bo hue had just couple slices of meat in it only. This was not the first time but second time. Sadly we won't be giving this place a third try again. read more

Not the best Vietnamese place I've been to. I got the pork bao which was fine but a bit dry. The summer bowl was pretty bland, with the lettuce being iceberg that was quite a bit white and floppy. Coming from Southern California with a huge Vietnamese community and so many choices to choose from this restaurant will have a hard time to compete with. Pricing is a tad overpriced. The Pho combo just lacks too little choices of beef. What I normally are offered compared to their price point for the combo comes with a larger serving of noodles with rare steak, bigger flank steak, beef brisket,tendon,tripe and for a little more money some beef balls. The beef ball they offer equates to a single Meatball sliced to little pieces. Normally my added offer of Meatballs in my city are 3 Meatballs halfed. Granted their soup base was ok but is not great. The spring roll was a sad offering. It was basically frozen egg rolls. The size is small and the taste was lacking. I found it parcular that it didn't come with the lettuce without charge like every Vietnamese places I've been to. $2 extra charge for 4 small leafs of lettuce ? It was not served with the mint leave and veggie together which it normally does in other places I've been to. It was really too pricey for the lack of quality and quantity. Driving through Sioux Falls and glad we took the 3 mile detour to try this place out. I had the Spring Bowl (vermicelli noodle salad with marinated grilled bbq pork, shredded pork, and egg rolls), and my dining partners had the vegan noodle soup and fried rice. Some really dependable Pho, pho sho! On our last day in Sioux Falls, my family and I ate so much the whole weekend that we sought something lighter. Lam's was the answer. To start, the Egg Rolls tasted yummy and fresh while the Fried Tofu was surprisingly light and delicate with a thin, crunchy "skin". I ordered a small Combo Pho of chuck roast, beef balls, and rare eye round. The pho broth was amazing and even more so with the addition of bean sprouts, lime juice, and mint leaves. The quality of these motivated us to order a Meat Bun and Banh Mi sandwiches stuffed with beef balls, pickled papaya, jalapeno, cilantro, and more to take with us on our trip back to New Jersey. We whipped them out on the plane from Sioux Falls to O'Hare and boy, was everyone else jealous. While the bread could have used a little toasting, they smelled and tasted sooo good. read more

We were driving through South Dakota and decided to stop in Sioux City because we were craving for banh mi sandwiches. Lam's came up as a recommended place on Yelp and boy, it did not disappoint. The sandwiches were smaller than we've had at other establishments but every bite was satisfying. The only regret I had was, I should have ordered more! The bread was crisp on top and soft on the middle. The filling was flavorful. The pate was subtle but the meat was well seasoned. It had thinly sliced jalapeños which I normally take out because I can't handle spice but it was perfect here. The pickled daikon and carrots weren't over-powering. I wished I could have taken pictures but I was in the car and it was about 9PM so the pictures wouldn't have turned out. We also purchased the steamed buns with pork filling. It was still warm when we picked up our order. Every morsel was delicious. The pork was juicy and the bun was airy soft. It tastes homemade almost tastes like the ones I make at home. It truly hit the spot especially when we've been out traveling for a week and so tired of the normal burgers and fries joints. The only reason why I didn't give this place higher stars is that the interaction we had here was awkward and unpleasant. We walked in and the staff just stared at us. No greeting. No questions. Just stared at us; up and down. We had to break the silence and said we were there to pick up our order. The staff were soft spoken but no emotion on their faces. I was a little creeped out because their establishment reminded me of a church. I had to question myself if I were at the right place. However, thank you to the Yelpers that posted the outside building otherwise we would been lost. Even after we paid for our order and went on our way, the staff didn't express any appreciation. This was our first true Vietnamese experience. We've been reading about how amazing the Pho is at Lam's and we agree that part of the meal was very delicious. However this rating is on the overall meal and experience. We ordered a variety of things to share which includes spicy Pho, ginger chicken platter, and appetizers of Bun Bao, fried pork rolls, spring roll and Chicken Banh Mi sandwich. The Bun bao was ok, could have had more flavor. The shrimp spring roll was not very good and the peanut sauce was sub par. I have had better sauce out of a jar. The banh mi was decent although it Needed a mayo or sauce or something. Not a lot of flavor. Fried pork rolls were great! The Spicy Sauce that arrived with them was excellent! So while the appetizers overall were average, the two main meals were very good! The flavor, texture and consistency of the rice were very good on the chicken platter was very good! Ginger Chicken was great! And then there was Pho. Overall a great bowl of soup. Beef could have had more flavor and the noodles were frustrating to try and eat as they kept slipping off the fork, but the broth was excellent! Could drink that stuff all day. One disappointing aspect of our meal was that we had asked for chop sticks and small bowls when we ordered and never got them. It made eating soup from a plate more challenging which took away from the overall experience.' This is my favorite place for Vietnamese food in all of Sioux Falls. My wife and I have tried all the other places in town and liked Lam's the most. Most main dishes are priced well (around $10). You can't go wrong with getting pho. Their other dishes (such as vermicelli bowls and beef fried noodles) are also really good. I work in Sioux Falls pretty often and I'm always impressed by the amount of restaurants. I found Lam's on Yelp one day, was able to look on the menu and spot a Vegan Pho! I stopped in one night later on, the restaurant was not too busy, kind of quiet there - no music or screens playing. I thought maybe it was due to being closer to their closing time, but I had been the same way the last few times I've been there. Found they had separate Vege and Vegan pages on the menu. I ordered the Veggie Pho (Vegan Noodle Soup) as well as the Spring Rolls (cold). I have also ordered the Vege Banh Mi Chay, and asked them to make it Vegan. I loved the Spring Rolls, the Banh Mi was good, could have used a bit of flavor next time I will add something. The Pho was absolutely to die for! Amazing. Not only was the veggie broth super flavorful, the tofu was out of this world. It's not your traditional raw barley cooked cut up tofu you receive in restaurants. There were three different textures or ways the tofu was cooked. It's hard for me to explain, I'm not sure I even understand lol! For the tofu alone this place is worth the trip. Once on one of my visits I brought home a jar of their Kimchi and Pickled Vegetables. The Kimchi is the best I have ever tasted in my life, they really knocked it out of the park. Very garlicky. It wasn't until we were half into the jar did we notice it has fish sauce in it. So not vegan, wishing it was because I would love another jar. read more

The vegan spring rolls were not bad but the peanut sauce was thin and lacked flavor. We also tried the spiced tofu which was nothing special and too salty. My personal favorites are the spiced tofu combo and the vege banh mi chay, although I have never had anything from Lam's that wasn't fabulous. Wasn't impressed with the quality of the ingredients. I had the Pho with steak and a Spring roll with shrimp. The Pho didn't have Thai basil, but rather parsley. The broth was bitter and bland. The spring roll, which was an appetizer, came after the Pho and the "peanut sauce" was almost repulsive to me. I've never had Vietnamese food before (despite having lived in California for 39 years), and neither had my wife. She really wanted to try pho, based on what she'd seen about it on the Food Network. And I'm very glad this is the place we picked! I'm pretty sure we'll be back. We both had the Beef Pho (w/all three beef cuts), and while my wife didn't particularly care for the "beef ball" cut, we both thought it was was one of the most delicious soups we'd ever had at any restaurant. The salted limeade is only available from from June through September, but if you go during that time, you simply must have it. Literally one of the best non-alcoholic beverages I've ever had. The Spring Rolls and the Bun Bao were both also excellent (as was the Peanut Sauce with which we were provided), and the Egg Rolls were certainly good enough (my wife loved them). This place isn't exactly cheap, but neither is it exorbitant. The food is delicious, the service is very good, and my wife is in a wheelchair; the disabled access was absolutely top-notch.
