I have been eating here, well ordering to go for some years now. Today is my first time actually sitting down in the restaurant. Now in the past when picking up it's usually just an older lady. She has never been super big on customer service and quite frankly pretty rude. I hate the stereotype that because it's a good Asian restaurant that service is usually not good but the food is good. Just because you know people will come back and eat, so you can treat them however. That's crazy to me... I have eaten at some amazing Asian establishments and have had both outstanding service and food. Anyway, so as I'm sitting here; there's about 6 people in here including me. Not a very big place. Kind of dark and pretty warm in here. Some stuff on the ceiling and Asian decor, grey walls. She comes to take my order and doesn't smile, I have been nothing but nice and smile at her and have manners etc.. But she asked me what I wanted, I say #19 pho beef & tendon.. then she immediately wants to run away. I say wait hold on, I wanted to add some things. What do you want to add she says? I said can I add nuoc beo on the side? She said we don't have that, then I say extra onions and cilantro.. I can't even say anything else before she tries to run away again.. then I said I would like to add spring rolls, but veggie, and I'm thinking that's tofu.. either way she runs away.. I can't even order a drink. I also really wanted to add a side of sliced onions and see if they have any Chinese donuts.. but there's no asking because she is running. Then as she comes back out to bring something to someone else, I basically have to raise my voice to ask for a drink. She brings my Dr. Pepper and spring rolls and it's literally just veggies inside. No tofu. At this point I feel not scared but like she is not approachable at all, intimidating to say the least. Very uncomfortable feeling. I really want to ask for tofu, but I'm just going to leave it alone. I saw a commercial with Vince Danh, running for city council, and I'm so confused how he is on this commercial speaking about this restaurant like it's just the best and meanwhile everyone knows the service is ridiculous. So she brings my food and everything looks good. I had to ask for a side of onions and chopsticks and chili oil. She seemed annoyed I had to ask. She brought them and I started eating. Everything was good. Now I don't want to go as far as saying racist, but I did notice how she was towards other people in here who weren't my color. I'm a lot of things but I definitely have darker skin than anyone in here. I have noticed some peoples experience may be the same who have non white skin. Anyway, I won't be coming back to sit and eat. I mean over the phone she's rude too and just wants to rush. I might order to pick up in the future, but this experience has turned me off completely. And I love Pho so much. I will just eat at Pho Thai.. I understand people have had hard lives and I have sympathy for them, but also regardless of the life you lived, you have to treat everyone with kindness. The food was DELICIOUS. The service, it was fine. The little old lady said to sit anywhere. She brought us our waters & silverware right away. We knew what we wanted (menu online) & she went back to the kitchen to prepare it. We literally ordered a bowl of "soup" so it's not rocket science to need any help with that. We came in at 2:45 so we had the whole place to ourselves, we were out by 3:15. It only took maybe 3 min to get our food. And for 2 people it cost like $25. So to me, that's better than any ol' burger joint you can hit up. Plus, we have a whole other meal's worth of leftovers. 100% would go back anytime. Was it the cleanest place? Easy to find location, parking is in the front or otherwise in the back. Small restaurant but they get filled up quick. We were greeted upon entering and was seated in the back. There's only 2 servers working, they might have been family members of the business owner. My cousins ordered pho and I ordered the rice chicken soup. Pho is not my number 1 favorite food. No fuss no muss, I think that's the saying. It's clean and easy to get to so had to stop again. Love it that the greeter/waitress/cashier greets you with a brief look to find out how many are with your party then pokes her finger at where you should sit and quickly. Served by an elderly lady with great expertise and sweet smile. Menus are at each table and then ask for more time if you need. I didn't I just stated, "Tea with sugar, fresh spring rolls, and #13. The food is good, usually get Pho Tai for pickup. I don't like that they put the Tai in the broth, cause by the time you get home the Tai is hard and overcooked. We were in town working the Autumn Festival and decided to have dinner here on our second night. It was awesome! My mom, who doesn't usually venture out much but it open to new things loved it! So I read all the reviews and was forewarned about the stone faced server, however our baby made her smile so big after she was impressed what a big eater Yaeli is. We also witnessed her smiling at another table towards the end as well, possibly about something silly when asking for to go containers. Regardless I still have to give it three stars because as much as I love hole in the walls, I was not super impressed by the food. The spring rolls had no basil just noodles and shrimp. My chicken pho had this overwhelming smell of chicken that I almost couldn't complete it. My parents felt that their mixed beef, brisket, tripe, meatball and tendon was better than the pho at Saigon bowl in Omaha however. The best part was the Vietnamese coffee and the bathrooms are just run down not really super messy or dirty like other reviews said. Overall just an average restaurant. read more

I'm just happy that more Asian places are popping up in Sioux Falls. We need more oriental food here. I am familiar with a lot of Asian restaurants in LA, and this one did not disappoint. So...I happen to be in Sioux Falls for a family wedding and after a long night of festivities (I'll leave it at that...); the entire crew needed a pick me up for the long drive back home. We all in some weird way decided that pho was in order and Yelp'd 'pho' and landed on this little establishment. So for starters, parking was fine, just a little weird since it was so close to the main road (so backing out into traffic?). The outside is a bit unassuming and if you weren't looking really hard, might miss this place as you speed through the intersection. Once inside, you're greeted with the front counter on your right and open space seating on your left; with another seating area a few steps above (maybe for a wild party of 30?!). We had a crew of 15, so had to rearrange tables and chairs to get everyone in, seated and ready to chow down! With so many people, we went down the family share plan and got spring rolls, egg rolls, fried shrimp, multiple combo pho, rice platters and beef stew (with bread). Spring Rolls = okay Egg Rolls = meh Pho = meh okay (too sweet for our taste) Beef Stew = meh, I've had better Now my context and benchmark is pho in the Twin Cities; where half the states Asian population is from Southeast Asia, and holds a very large Vietnamese community. I'm not a pho snob and by no means an expert (although my tastebuds might think different). But the spring rolls were thin, egg rolls small and pho was simply bland (and too much rock sugar). It was simply underwhelming, when I expect a flavorful clear broth, that complements the addition of fresh veggies and favorite sauces. If you think toddlers with cell phones are hilarious (I do) then you are in for an added bonus. I will say, I thought the broth tasted slightly canned (as in not from scratch or doctored a little.) Good pho! They have a ton of options on their menu. The broth is delicious. Someone came in and ordered just the broth to go which I thought was genius. Came with all the proper fixings (I see some people were upset they served cilantro vs. basil but I'm more of a cilantro fan anyways). The service was quick. I see also that some people were upset they didn't receive overly friendly service - but keep in mind this is a Vietnamese restaurant where their culture is perhaps different and that some people might not be the most confident in their English. I'm in town for a week, and I've been sampling different Asian cuisines. As many different types of searches as I could do turned up only three pho places in the Sioux Falls area. Pho Quynh is a hole in the wall, with no decor to speak of other than a large screen TV that was playing a Vietnamese soap opera when I was there. I ordered things I order often at pho restaurants: cold spring rolls, pho (with steak, tripe, and tendon), and an avocado shake. While all the food was very fresh and the meal was good overall, there was also not a whole lot of flavor. The spring rolls had more sprouts than I'm used to having, and no cilantro. Still, they were large and hearty and the vegetables very crispy. The pho broth was a little weak, and the steak was cooked all the way (it should be rare). The tripe was just right--shredded so that it almost looks like the noodles and easy to chew. The tendon was cut thick, just the way I like it. I'm used to getting basil with my pho and here I got cilantro. I think there was MSG in one of the dishes because I'm having that weird MSG backache/headache thing happening. I don't want to turn off people who haven't had pho before from trying Pho Quynh. I eat a lot of pho and have gotten to the point where I'm picky. By the time I left Boston, I had pretty much limited myself to one place out of at least 20, so my expectations are high. If you live in the area, give Pho Quynh a try. Be adventurous. I hate to rate a place on only one visit, but I doubt I'll be this way again and I want to encourage people who live in pho-deprived areas to give Vietnamese cuisine a try. read more

Ok, Yelp. You didn't recommend my other review but that's OK. Let's talk about Pho in SuFu. We've got it. Its' good. Not here. There's another hidden gem mentioned previously and reviewed by myself as well. Here's the deal with Pho Quynh: Rude service. Up to a certain point, I will accept rudeness as cultural. This steps over that line and shakes it's head at you. The gal who always takes our order is impolite and unapologetic. Complaints about the food? Keep them to yourself. Food: Coffee is spot on and I will always be grateful that I was introduced to Vietnamese style coffee by this restaurant. Peanut sauce appears to come from a can, as does the broth for what should be really beautiful pho. The tripe is rubbery. The spring rolls are at least fresh, a saving grace. Atmosphere: needs a damn paint job. The dining area reflects a apathetic attitude and lack of respect for patrons. The little kid running around kicking people has grown into a tween behind the counter on an ipad. speaking of behind the pay counter, it's cluttered and dim and needs to be sprayed down. All in All? The decor of this place is definitely more inviting than just about any other cheap Pho restaurant I have been to. I started with the spring rolls, which done well and perfectly crispy. I had the pho with rare sirloin. The steak was still rare in the middle when it came out which is a nice touch. Sprouts, citrus, and hot peppers were included, but they opt for just cilantro instead of the basil/mint configuration. Although I'm fairly sure I never heard any of the staff speak during my meal here (by no means a requirement), the experience I had at Pho Quynh was excellent all around. I first noticed that their menu is very extensive, with options for every taste and mood. Although that can be a problem since I tend to be quite indecisive, it's still a good problem nonetheless. I enjoy long menus because they provide excellent revisit value. Another big plus is the menu is also very reasonably priced. Great start to my first visit. I ordered the spring rolls and pho with rare sirloin and meatballs. I was first amazed by how quickly all the food came out - within a few minutes (it did make me a little nervous though). Even though it came out extremely quick, it tasted extremely good. The spring rolls were fresh and came with a really good dipping sauce. The pho's broth was very flavorful. It had good beef flavor with just a hint of sweetness that worked nicely together. It almost (almost) would have been perfect by itself, but it was complemented with a great amount of noodles, meat, and accompaniments (always love bean sprouts). It was a great bowl of pho. We finished our soups and guess what? NOT THIRSTY = NO MSG! YAY!!! So my wife and I like to venture outside the norm from time to time. I had seen this quaint and inviting place almost on a daily basis, but yet had never ventured inside of it. Finally one day I decided to do lunch there and invited my wife to join me. Needless to say I was 'wowed'. The atmosphere isn't up to par when you compare it to other places that have invested a lot into aesthetics. However, I'm more of a fan of don't judge a book by its cover. The Pho was amazing. The spring rolls are to die for, and the service is decent. Don't expect to be treated like royalty here, it's just a hole in the wall place. Do expect great food, large hearty portions, and cheap prices. If you're in town, or a local, give it a shot. What do you have to lose? read more
