Sam and team did an incredible job on a transition piece for my hardwood floor. It was custom made decades ago and was cracked. I had done a crappy job of trying to repair it with wood glue and it looked awful. Sam and his team sanded it and stained it. Now it looks better than it did twenty years ago!! Incredible. They charged me only $25 for the work but I felt I should pay them more for their excellent craftsmanship. Worth the drive from San Mateo to Brisbane. Plus they stayed open ten minutes late just for me to get there to pick it up. What commitment to excellence! read more

I was introduced to Lana through my flooring vendor for the purpose of manufacturing custom stair treads that matched my engineered wood flooring. Avoid this company at all costs! They installed a solid oak floor in my house in late 2012. The hardwood floor is now horribly buckled, bent, and uneven throughout the house! Lana Floor Company ignored industry standards and did not allow the oak boards to acclimate before installation. As a result, after installation the floor boards absorbed excess moisture with resulting widespread damage. The only solution to repair the damaged hardwood floor is a complete sanding and refinishing of the entire floor. I am told this will cost in excess of $6,000! I have filed a formal complaint with the California State Contractor's License Board. The owner of Lana Floor Covering has yet to respond to my complaint. In my complaint I stipulated that Lana Floor Covering is to pay the full cost of sanding and refinishing their defective work. I had the best experience working with Sam (the owner) and his team. I bought prefinished solid hardwood from American Wood Floor Center (same owner with Lana Floor Covering) and Sam gave me really good pricing for installation. I called them a few months after I put the deposit down to start the project due to delay in remodeling other parts of the house and Sam was able to start the project on the date I requested. The team showed up right on time every single day and worked hard to complete the work in a timely manner. Enrique is the main person who installed our floor and he's super detail-oriented and hard working. Sam painted the vent covers and transition strips and I'm pretty impressed with the color match. We bought our wood from American Wood Floor Center and used their installation company, Lana Floor Coverings, to install the wood. We are very happy with both decisions. American Wood Floor had high quality wood choices at a great price. We looked long and hard for our wood flooring. It was the most difficult decision we made with our home addition and we are lucky to have finally found American Wood Floor Center. We are very happy with our dark hickory Columbia Wood flooring. As for the installation, that went as well as it could have. Lana cut our baseboard which was not easy to do. it chewed up the baseboard but once Lana installed the flooring and polished up the baseboard it looks brand now. All wood is installed neatly and tightly. There were not blemishes. All transitions between rooms were installed perfectly. Sam and his crew came back a couple of times to touch up items, even after we paid them in full. His #1 concern was completing the job right to ensure the customer was happy and would return as a customer or refer more business his way. I totally respect that. We'd recommend AMerican Wood Floor Center and Lana Floor Covering to anyone. As a side note, I talked to Sam about the negative post received from Roman K. and it's clear to me that poster is sadly mistaken after hearing Sam's side of the story. In January, we had Lana Flooring take out all of the 3 kinds of flooring in our 1906 Palo Alto home, which had been there since 1989, when we added on to the back of the house. We chose natural bamboo to install throughout the 6 rooms. The floor levels were different because of the addition, but Sam was able to add plywood as needed to maintain a smooth surface, with no divisions between the rooms. We love the bright color, and durable surface; it warms up our whole house. We echo the comments of the last few reviews....Sam and his team did an amazing job during the rainiest part of January, to keep up the work schedule, and completed the project within a few days of when he promised. We particularly got to know Sam's colleague, Akbar, who spent long days in our home, working in rain, cold, and with the flu...he is the epitome of a dedicated craftsman, as is Sam. Not only was the installation done with precision and care, but the clean up at the end of each day was responsible and complete; during the last week of the project we were able to live in part of the house, which Sam and Akbar made sure were clear of any "rubble" and as comfortable as possible. We cannot recommend Sam and Lana Flooring too highly. We learned about Lana Flooring from our neighbor, and are so thankful to have taken that advice. You will not be disappointed if you trust Sam and Lana Flooring with your flooring installation/refinishing. read more

After looking for a wide plank, clear grade American Cherry for a long time, I was surprisingly able to find it at Sam's store in Brisbane. It was the exact material I was searching for! The plank width was just right and the quality of the materials was awesome! A true clear grade American Cherry, 3/4 by 5 inch wide plank, so hard to find.. After ordering and receiving the hardwood, I've had it installed by Sam's installation company - Lana Floor Covering and oh boy, that was the right choice! The craftsmanship and the pace of this installation was absolutely fantastic! Lucky me, I had a friend who recommended me to check with Sam, and to my surprise, he knew exactly what I'm trying to find and achieve here! Within a week after ordering, my hardwood was delivered to my house, it sat there for a few days to acclimate and in the next week it was completely and professionally installed. These floors look amazingly beautiful, accented by my high end base boards, the whole place looks like straight out of a design magazine cover! I couldn't be happier with the whole process, honestly! First I called a couple of companies from Angie's List - they all seemed fine, but everyone mentioned their multi-million dollar projects and I wondered why they wanted my business, since I just have a little old house in Glen Park. A friend suggested Sam, as they had used him on their home on Potrero Hill. Sam returned my call very quickly and made an appointment to visit my home in short order. He and I had an immediate rapport - probably because we are both getting on up in age and have both succeeded in life through hard work and integrity. When I told him the I had not chosen the wood for my floors yet, so he popped me into his car and off we went to Burlingame. I chose many different samples and his assistant, Lena would then call to see if and when each would be available. So I made my choice and the entire house was finished in less than 2 weeks. Sam Maslenko, the owner of Lana Floor Covering, came to our home and provided a thorough scope of work and proposal to refinish our 30-year old oak floors. His crew did the work while we were on vacation and we returned to a perfectly restored floor. All the work was done on schedule and within our agreed on contract price. There were a number of old defects in the kitchen, bath and living room that we had lived with for years. They simply vanished! He replaced all the old metal heat registers with new oak registers, and replaced all the damaged planks in the old floor. He also installed beautiful new oak treads on our stairway. We needed good flooring purchased and installed in a two week window due to an upcoming move. We visited the showroom in Burlingame and picked out the wood. The wood was delivered as scheduled but the order was mixed up with another order -- same wood but different color. This is where you learn about a business. When things go wrong and the problem is quickly and efficiently fixed, you know you are in good hands. Lana Floor Covering found the error and delivered the correct wood over the weekend. Beginning in the second week, carpeting was removed, wood was installed, new molding was added since the original molding was very old and in bad shape. Then they cleaned up the mess left over after a new flooring installation. The owner was on the job and on the ball through the whole process.
