The most important factors were: - for convenience (you could not ask for an easier location to pick up/drop of the car).... - for price (so much more affordable than any other option...especially appreciated with our weaker Canadian dollar)... - and for AMAZING service by Josie and Paul!!! We also love supporting local and this couple is just wonderful! Yes, the Toyotas are a bit older but they run beautifully, are spacious, and the AC was perfect! We rented a small SUV at a very fair price. While it wasn't a brand-new model and clearly well used, it was still very clean, everything functioned perfectly, and we had zero mechanical issues during our entire week-long rental. It was exactly what we needed for exploring the island. The check-in process was incredibly smooth. They picked us up from the airport immediately, and when we arrived at the lot, the car was already running and pre-loaded with the beach package we added. It made the transition from the airport to the road a total breeze. Note: Since we declined the insurance, we took a quick video of the car before leaving--standard practice, and the staff was great about it. After-hours drop-off is very convenient. Just make sure to read the instructions carefully, as they have a specific designated parking area at the airport. We took pictures and videos again before leaving. We actually had a bit of a personal mishap--my husband realized he'd left his fanny pack locked in the car after we had already dropped it off and headed to check in for our flight. We left a voicemail asking them to look for it. While it took a few follow-ups to locate (luckily we could see the location via the AirPods inside!), the team stayed with it. Once found, they went out of their way to take it to a mailing center so it could be returned to us. We are so thankful for the effort they made to resolve our mistake. We will definitely be using Aloha Rent A Car again on our next visit!

The Assistant Manager and staff were extremely rude, constantly cutting us off and speaking to us like children instead of customers. The van itself had no AC, warning lights on the entire time, and shook badly while driving. When we tried to get help, nobody was willing to assist or take responsibility. Customer service and professionalism are seriously lacking here. Rent somewhere else and save yourself the stress.

The female worker was the only employee who is pleasant to deal with. We received an older 2012 SUV, which was ok, if the car was not a piece of junk. Unfortunately, this car was done, as it was at over 117K mileage. It also had a lot of dents, marks, scratches, etc. Our biggest regret was keeping the rental as it was. The paperwork was already filled out when we got there. We returned the car at the end of our trip. No issues until we got to the parking lot. The engine light turned on. We immediately reported to the female employee. She nodded that the car was 12 years old. It was bound to encounter issues along the way. We received a phone call from the "CEO of operations" after two days. Now, we're told the car died. It won't start. He said it was in "good working condition" prior to the rental. We had two options. We can agree to pay the invoice from the mechanics for the "damages." Or they can file with our car insurance and say the car was totaled. Obviously, we did not agree with either options. It was not comprehensible as to how they can fault us for a crappy car. They should count their lucky stars that the scrap metal ran its course. No back up camera or GPS system. It was completely outdated. It was quite fortunate that no one got hurt or injured with this rental car. Anyhow, he ended the call saying the cars belonged to several "owners". And, they will definitely be in touch to file an insurance claim. Be very cautious if you decide to book with them. I wouldn't trust these scammers at all! It appears they devise these schemes by renting out old junk cars. They are completely aware that 90% of their fleet is not operable. Or it ran its course. Then, they file bogus fraud insurance claims to get new cars. Go with a legit, reputable car rental company!

Second, the website is VERY deceptive in terms of available vehicles. Third, when we arrived, we were picked up in a beat-up van by an unfriendly driver who gave the vibe that we were inconveniencing him because he had to pick us up. When we arrived, we were met by a rather surly gentleman who took us to a SUV with 149,000 miles (I have photographic evidence to prove this) on it and looked like it had been in a demolition derby. We immediately asked for another car and he told us "nothing else was available". Driving the car, I noticed that the brakes were iffy and one of the seat belts was not functioning properly (plus, it was so old that there was no navigation). The family refused to continue driving in this dangerous deathtrap vehicle and I was forced to rent ANOTHER vehicle from Enterprise for the remainder of our vacation. When it was time to return the car, I got a text to return the car with a full tank (despite the fact that we got the car with a half-tank and he verbally told me to return in the same way). I opted to return the car with a full tank because I thought this rental agency would screw me with excess gas charges. When we returned the car, we were told that there was no transportation back to the airport and we were forced to drive this same vehicle to the airport and leave it for them to retrieve. A miserable experience...never again (the big fear was that the car would "die" and strand us by the side of the road). PS-DO NOT believe the website pictures!

Alan was very friendly and knowledgeable about cars and offered us Mazda for $245 for whole week and they don't charge for delivery to the airport so we just been picked up from there for free on our nice and clean Mazda with full tank of gas, which took us all over the island. Of course we went to the big names first (i.e. Dollar, Hertz, Alamo, etc) and were sticker shocked. I'm not sure what was going on but all rental companies were asking for $200 or more per day. Ridiculous! As frustration was building and no luck, we started googling for local companies and even looked on Craigslist which is where I found Rent My Maui Car. The owner Martin, gave supreme service from the beginning. It was easy to secure the car, lock in a truly reasonable rate and make arrangements. Once we landed in Maui, Martin picked us up curbside. We didn't have to worry about lines at the larger rental offices. Martin had several snorkeling books, island guide books, a cooler and even offered a kayak to use. He wanted to ensure we had the right experience on Mau'i. Though the car we drove was an older used car, it was in great condition and ran great. It had some local flare to it with the island seat covers. It even handled the road to hana. On our last day, Martin met us no problem. He even offered to drop us off curbside at the airport.
