I recently did a day-trip to Lanai with a friend from the mainland, and was recommended to contact John by the staff of the Lanai Ferry. John was incredibly laid-back and accomodating at the same time. He picked us up from the Ferry and shuttled us to ourvehicle at Lanai City, and gave us a map and overview of what to do and see during our day-long visit. He also recommended a breakfast spot, told us anecdotes about his life on Lanai, and then met us back at our pick-up spot for a shuttle back down to the harbor for the 5:30 ferry. Our day was amazing, fun, and memorable. Couldn't have been happier with our red jeep, and left feeling like we'd made a new friend in John. Would definitely book again for a return trip! read more

We wanted to take a day trip from Maui to Lanai so we arranged our jeep rental first with John, then bought the ferry tickets. John picked us up at the dock and drove us up to Lanai City to do the paperwork. He told us where to go, how to get there - also told us where not to go and provided a map. It was spot on! We had a great day exploring Lanai - Shipwreck Beach, Garden of the Gods, the abandoned Ka Lanakila O Ka Malamalama Church in Keomoku. We picked up souvenir t-shirts and hats from Local Gentry and grabbed lunch and drinks from Richard's Market. Would definitely recommend a trip to Lanai and get your jeep from John. read more

This was the BEST ATV experience ever! John was super nice, patient and helpful. We had two couples go out for 4 hours and out of all of our vacation activities over 20 years of marriage this one of the top experiences we've ever had. We went all the way down to the beach and on the way down the views are breathtaking it was absolutely beautiful and so fun to ride the ATVs on the beach. I highly recommend this Lanai ATV activity. This was the best both Lana'i and ATV experience I've ever had. John took care of us like family, picking us up at the Harbor, driving us to Coffee Works and The Blue Ginger Cafe in town before our off-road adventure. On the way into town, John gave us maps and detailed directions of the various routes. The ATV tutorial was short as we both have had a lot of experience, these machines were super easy to use. . As we had both been to Lana'i multiple times before, we took the forested Munro Trail and followed that toward the old Hawaiian Village of Kaunolu, also stopping at the Cat Sanctuary. He also provided us with a strong box to secure our belongings in, preventing everything from getting all covered in dust and mud. The Munro trail on our brand new Honda ATV's was totally surreal. I had no idea their was this much water anywhere on Lana'i. It's a lush pine forest in the clouds filled with tropical ferns and flowers. Axis Deer darted out across the trail in front of us. Other sections of Lana'i had a rugged desolate beauty. The ATV's could literally get through anything, on previous trips to Lana'i we needed to turn around in the Range Rover's we had rented. Although we might have been able to make it through to certain areas in the Range Rover, we felt 100% confident these machines could get us anywhere on the island. Coming out of the Munro Trail, I realized that I hadn't paid enough attention when John was teaching me how to use the ratcheting tie straps. After unsuccessfully walking me through it on the phone, in less than ten minutes he was there showing me in person. Outstanding service. For $160 a person for a full days use of an amazing off-road machine, this is the best show on Lana'i and probably the only way to see the complete island safely. read more

I dont usually write reviews but i feel like i should give credit to Hanai Jeep Rental. Atv rental costs $170 for the whole afternoon until in the evening. This guy John is always on time., He picked us up in the port and was already waiting with his jeep. He drove us to the center of the town, tour guided us about the island of lanai. He even drove us to the grocery store to grab some food and drinks and gave us a map. The honda atv was awesome! Never got stuck thru the mud, sand and rocky roads. Very reliable. The best part is u can drive around the island wherever u want to go. U just have to come back at a certain time so u dont miss the ferry back to La Haina. After the atv i texted john and he arrived right away to pick us up. We had some time to kill so he drove us a bar to just chill then he drove us back to the ferry. We rented from John in October of 2017 and what a great experience. Super nice guy, reliable Honda equipment, and a gorgeous island to motor around. John was super accommodating and helped us with a couple of ad hoc requests of his time and use of his jeep. This was EASILY the best rental/activity experience I have had on a vacation. If you do this I highly recommend getting a good GPS app on your phone and downloading routes/tracks from public mapping sites. I did a trackon Gaia GPS from Lanai City to Polihua beach but I think most of the ATV paths John recommends are on Google Maps and can be dowloaded into your phone directly, enable GPS on the phone and your good to go. read more

Had an excellent time in Lanai today driving around in a Jeep. To echo all of the other reviews, John Price is a super nice guy and made the whole process of renting a Jeep as easy as can be. He is one of the or four rental companies on the island. John picked us up in an almost new Jeep, gave us advice on what to do and where to go, and drove us back to the ferry. Totally awesome trip to Lanai. John went above and beyond to make our trip great. John pickled us up at the ferry dock and drove us into town, along the way pointing out landmarks and going over an island map. After a introduction to the ins and outs of riding on Lanai we headed down the trail towards the Garden of the Gods , then we headed towards a mini shipwreck beach. After poke and POG we rode through a tree tunnel and then up the hill towards town. We were running short on time due to the fact that the last ferry was leaving at 2 pm so John gave us a ride in his Jeep to the cat sanctuary and then the ferry dock. Overall the quad rental was the most bang for the buck during our 12 day Maui vacation. Lots and lots of smiles and fun. John was easy to deal with and he definitely has the ALOHA spirit. read more

If you are in Maui, you absolutely have to take the ferry over to Lanai for a day to rent an ATV from John and tour the island. It was one of the most fun things I have done in a long time. There's nothing like the sense of freedom you can enjoy touring around an island of this size and population! John met me at the ferry terminal in the morning, and the introduction to the island started immediately with his commentary about the various parts of the island as we sailed around it. He gave me a ride to town and then showed me very clearly how to get into and out of town on an ATV. He gave me a map and explained how to navigate the main trail junctions, and gave me suggestions on places to go. It was my first time on an ATV, and he gave me a quick but comprehensive tutorial on how to operate the vehicle, which turned out to be pretty straightforward. There was very little formality and just one quick form to sign. I was woefully unprepared in the clothing department and John hooked me up with a rain jacket, which turned out to be essential. Pretty soon I was off exploring the island. His directions were very clear and visual, and I was surprised how much was easy to remember when out on the trails - lots of landmarks! I was out the entire day, and had time to see pretty much the whole island, including a few stops for lunch and to take photos (the ATVs have bungee cords on the back to secure a backpack, and also a compartment for your phone). The highlights were the Monroe Trail, which takes you up to the top of the ridge through dense rainforest, clouds, and potentially extreme weather including high winds, rain, and fog (awesome fun!); the infamous Cat Sanctuary where I was jumped on by dozens of cats eager for attention, very relaxing; and Shipwreck Beach. The scenery was beautiful throughout and I got some amazing pictures. Abandoned jeeps, dramatic landscapes, incredible colors, tranquil beaches... and I was the only other human I saw on the trails the entire day. The island is criss-crossed by quad trails, and the ATVs are powerful enough to go off trail too if you want (as I found out when I tried to work my way out of a field of tall grass at one point!) I saw very many wild deer, turkeys, horses, and an amazing variety of terrain and fauna, not to mention great views of the other islands. If you haven't ridden an ATV before, you are in for a treat. They can handle almost anything and it was a blast to be cruising at 30mph on smooth grass one minute, then maneuvering through steep slopes, rocks, and puddles the next. By the end of the day it felt like an extension of my own body, giving me the freedom to go anywhere, explore any trail, and see so much in so little time. I returned late in the day with still a third of a tank of gas remaining and could have covered even more ground if I'd had time. While I was out, my return ferry was cancelled due to bad weather. No problem! John offered a tent and pointed me in the direction of the local market to pick up some dinner. It really was like family. The next day he gave me a ride back to the ferry, and even bought the group some bananas for breakfast. Highly recommended! I really hope to be back soon to do this again. Much more fun than exploring in a Jeep, and no better place to be on a quad than a little island like this. read more

I can't recommend Lanai Jeep Rental and John enough (www.lanaijeeprental.net). We rented a Jeep from him and when we arrived, he was waiting by the ferry for us. We had the option of either taking the shuttle up, or he'd pick us up. No brainer! We were talking about trying to get down to Shipwreck Beach (via the Awalua trail) to geocache and he quickly advised us that a Jeep wouldn't be suitable. Luckily, he had ATVs and rented us those at a slightly discounted price. As we made our way up to Lanai City, he showed us a map and told us briefly about some of the island's history and points of interest we could check out. We parked the Jeep at the hotel and he walked us to the ATVs. I figured my fiance and I would just ride on one, but after a quick escort slightly out of town, he said, "Here, you both take the two ATVs, I'm going to walk the short walk back to town. Have fun and text me with whatever questions you might have". He gave us brief instructions on how to get to the Garden of the Gods and to the beaches we wanted to go to. Let me tell you something about the Awalua trail and John. You may be thinking, "Oh, he's just trying to sucker these two out of more money!" but you couldn't be farther from the truth. A Jeep would not have made it. Would not. And I will be forever glad we spent the extra money to rent ATVs as well. In all honesty, I would have just kept on the ATVs all day if I didn't need a phone charger to juice up my cell phone. John said that after we were done with the hard trails we could either keep cruising on the ATVs or come back for the Jeep and just leave the ATVs. This guy couldn't be more chill and helpful. When we got back, John drove us to the harbor. We filled up on gas before returning the Jeep and happened to get snacks at the store, but John made a point to ask if we needed food or anything - he was all prepared to swing by the store for us. John has lived on Lana'i for several years and knows the ins and outs. He knows what places to eat at, who takes credit cards, and what the best routes are to places like the Lana'i Cat Sanctuary if you're taking an ATV and can't ride on the paved road. Our trip could have easily gone south had we rented from Dollar or someone else. I'll recommend Lanai Jeep Rental until I'm blue in the face, and then some. read more

It's clear that he has spent a lot of time exploring and has tremendous love and respect for the island. My son being 14 but already an accomplished driver due to go-karting for past several years really wanted to go ATVing after a few years of doing so in Mexico and the Carribean. Nobody on Maui was interested in letting him go out. Someone I called said try the other islands hence me finding John at Lanai Jeep Rentals. After a few questions via phone interview, he agreed. It was the best day of our two week holiday. My son had a blast. On Maui, the best I could get was $200 per person for a couple hours, the highest being $900 for 4 hours. John after ferry et al worked out to about $250 a person for the entire day. John personally picked us up, gave us the run down of the local police game of trying to bust you for running in the city on the ATV, pointed out their stakeouts as we were out for the day, and did the tour himself. The day was amazing, from near desert conditions down to the ocean on one side of the island, to the rain forests up the mountain on the other. In 25 years of ATVing personally, I've never experienced anything remotely close to it. I can not recommend John at Lanai Jeep Rentals enough. read more

We rented a Jeep from John at Lanai Jeep Rental. He picked us up at the airport with the jeep and brought us to our hotel. Along the way he gave us information we needed for the town while on the island. The Jeep was a 4 X 4, four door Jeep Wrangler. It had big tires and was lifted to enable us to access off road locations other jeeps might not be able to get in and out of. The next day John took us on a whirl wind tour around the island. He is very knowledgeable about the island and it's places of interest. He told us where to go to have a great time and where to be cautious with deep sand and places not to get stuck.
