From the time we checked in until the time we drove away we had an awesome time. Erica and the rest of the front desk staff couldn't have made us feel more welcome. We've stayed at oh-so-many similarly priced venues but have never felt more pampered that at the "Arts." Every minute of our get-away weekend was picture perfect, including the meals we had at both the John Jeffries (attached to the hotel) and "Checkers," located a short walk away. My Husband and I stayed here on a Friday night for a little "staycation" after his company Christmas party. This hotel is lovely and so neat to explore. It's a nice little gem in our own city. Very unique and of course artsy. Some really fun touches like a doodle pad and pencil in the room, and fun art at every turn. It's also in a nice location for walking around and exploring that part of the city. We had a standard room, with a queen size bed (which was plenty comfy). All the extras you need like free wifi, a flat screen tv, robes, coffee maker, etc. everything was clean and tidy. Front desk was pleasant. My only complaint was 1. Someone had the iPhone dock/alarm clock set at 6 am and so it started blaring extremely loudly long before we planned to be up. In our groggy state it was difficult to get turned off. I suppose we should have thought to check it the night before. And 2. There was a TON of noise/talking, by housekeeping, in the hall outside of our room very early that went on for quite some time. With 3 small kids we had really been looking forward to sleeping in! Definitely a hotel worth seeing and a local business to support vs the big chains! read more

I agree with most posters here that the hotel is very beautiful, the artwork is spectacular and the hotel has a unique look and feel. However, if you stay here, avoid the 1rst or 2nd floor, the noise from the bar and restaurant is terrible. We had a problem with a strong druse smelling odor on the second floor last night 3/15/14. The receptionist handled the problem right away and called her manager. Because of the smell and noise we were moved to the third floor which helped with the bar noise, but because the hotel is an old factory, the walls are thinner than most hotels I have stayed at, and the old wood floor make lots of noise from people walking . Because of the noise issue, next time I will go for a more standard hotel in the area, 200.00/night for all the problems I encountered is a bit much! read more

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!! I stayed here with my family last night and we had the WORST STAY! From midnight until 2am there were 3 SUVs in the front parking lot with all car doors open - blaring their music. There were about 20 guys drinking and screaming and they would surround every car that attempted to leave... POUNDING ON THEIR CARS AND SCREAMING AT THEM TO ROLL DOWN THEIR WINDOWS. The cars were forced into traffic and several collisions almost happen. So much honking. It was the scariest thing I had ever experienced. When we checked out the next morning after getting NO SLEEP, the lady at the front desk asked, how was your stay? I said is someone working the front desk 24 hours a day? She said yes. I said were you here last night? And she said no. I explained what we had been through and she said she was aware of what had happened and that the gang had rented one of their party rooms and they couldn't get them to leave?!!??? UNBELIEVABLE! No cops were called , no discount was offered. WE PAID FULL PRICE FOR THIS HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE. DO NOT STAY HERE. I repeat... DO NOT STAY HERE. read more

We have stayed here in earlier years, and were really pleased with the value received for the money spent. Just finishing our two night stay, and I must say we were rather disappointed this time. Management seems to have used Covid as an excuse to cut back on the services and amenities we had come to expect here, There is no room or bathroom cleaning unless you request it with 24 hrs. notice, and this is announced by a paper sign in the elevator, The pleasant personal amenities have been replaced with a mere sliver of soap, two cheap sanitizing towelettes, and some pumps on the shower wall. Most importantly, one of the mattresses in the double queen room was lumpy and had a deep indentation in the middle. Only sleeping on the very edge of the bed provided some level of comfort. read more

The ascetic at this hotel is great. Great location and it's very clean. Rooms are super cute. However, reason for the 2 stars is that the subfloors in this place are just absolutely terrible. We stayed on the 2nd floor and you can hear people way too clearly outside the hotel, below you on the first floor, and every single movement your upstairs neighbors make too. If you're a light sleeper like myself this place is NOT for you. There are no fans in the rooms either so you will not be able to drown out the noise with a fan. I had to wear headphones and play white noise music just to fall asleep. I've never stayed at a hotel where I can hear so many different noises at once. I was coming in for a wedding and I had called to pay extra to have my room ready at 2 instead of reg check in which is 3 and was told no. The girl On the phone had an attitude also. I emailed the manager, with no response. Now there is a bar attached to the hotel and the wedding party was coming back for drinks, they closed down the bar at 11 with ppl willing to pay for drinks. I have never heard of such a thing before. full bar- should stay open. the bartenders were rude also. There are better places to stay at in Lancaster I'm sure. read more

The Lancaster Arts Hotel is fabulous. My husband and I stayed in a Loft Suite and it was pretty perfect. The whirlpool tub was big enough for both of us, the bed was very comfortable and the room was beautiful. It was also really reasonably priced. The whole hotel has a really cool aesthetic, which is what attracted us. Friendly staff and ample parking. Also, the hotel restaurant is freaking incredible. Not just for a hotel restaurant, but for any restaurant. Seriously amazing. My only real complaint is the elevator situation. Which is to say, there's just one for 5 floors and hundreds of guests. Lovely hotel with art for sale all throughout the halls and rooms. My husband and I visited Lancaster to start off our honeymoon and the hotel kindly upgraded us to a loft room. The loft room is romantic and includes a Jacuzzi tub and the most comfortable bed! We chose the Brewmaster Package as an add-on. We received two cans, a $25 gift card to the brewery, two pint glasses, and a VIP tour with the head brewer at Lancaster Brewing Company. It was difficult to schedule the tour (requires calling the brewery multiple times) but that's no fault of the hotel. Overall, wonderful stay! read more

What a nightmare. Booked a room here through Orbitz AND PAID FOR IT IN ADVANCE. Because that makes it a guarantee, right? Get there, they say "It says here your room was cancelled." Um, no, it's paid for and we're here. Call Orbitz. Orbitz says, "Yeah, this is an active reservation, not cancelled." The hotel's reply: "It says here your room was cancelled." No attempted to fix anything. Orbitz calls hotel--can't even get through, or the hotel just wouldn't answer their call. So finally Orbitz moves us to another hotel, no extra charge. It took THREE HOURS of talking with Orbitz to fix the mess, because somebody at the Lancaster Arts Hotel either a) cancelled our reservation in error, or b) sold the room out from under us. This is my favorite boutique hotel in all of downtown lancaster. Stayed here four times for work related reasons and am looking forward to going back again soon. First, location, location, location, location!!! Second, what an adorable hotel. The rustic feel of being an old rural factory turned hotel - lovely! Third, the attention to detail is second to none! From the local chocolates and rose on the pillow to the two kinds of water in the room. From the lovely orange scented toiletries in the bathroom to the drawing paper left for your artistic enjoyment - there is no detail left unaddressed! I really enjoy the artwork. Lancaster is known for farms and Amish folk but did you know there is a very hip & urban downtown? Local artist's work is displayed on every wall, sculpture in the lobby and if you partake of the paper & pencils they leave in your room ... Your art can be displayed at the check in desk. Did I mention they have an exceptional bar/restaurant downstairs? The bar is well stocked & they even serve absinthe. Their menu always has a fantastic vegetarian option and you will need some of their strong French Press coffee after all of the eating and drinking. Really cool hotel! Last summer we spent one night at the Lancaster Arts, booked by my sister, who lives in Johnstown, PA. My husband and I were in Pennsylvania visiting her and her family, and his family as well. The hotel itself is what I would call a "boutique" type hotel. It's small, charming and unique. As the name implies, it has art on just about every wall and surface. I love that each room is different, and though the building is historical, it contains modern amenities and fixtures while being creative and artsy at the same time. Our room was on the smaller side, but we only spent one night there, so it didn't bother us. It was clean and nicely appointed, which is all that matters. My husband and I were thrilled to find French doors leading into the bathroom! That was a nice touch that you don't really see in hotels. On the bed was a red rose, and on the bedside table, was a creative vinyl vase to keep it in. On the desk was a pad of paper and a pencil so you could leave your very own artwork. A thoughtful flip book was also provided, which contained tourist information on things to do, where to eat, and even information about the Amish. In the morning, they have a great breakfast buffet. It goes beyond the conventional Continental breakfast that most places serve, with the inclusion of breakfast burritos and other hot food items. I was impressed and loved that they had coffee cups for you to take some hot java with you. If we are ever in the Lancaster area again, I think we'll stay here again. My Husband and I stayed 2 nights last week and it was just okay... why? The air did not work for 2 nights and did not start working untill 8:30 am the day we checked out. We mentioned it a few times and was given $50 off of one night. We stayed out of the room as much as possible due to the heat but had to get ready for a wedding while sweating. We left the hotel so tired because neither of us could sleep. We stayed focused on the wedding and did not want to waste time finding a different place to stay. I was okay paying $189 for a room next to the elevator and ice machine, however not okay paying for 2 nights of no sleep. I am giving this hotel 2 stars because it was pretty and that is it. Jeffries) tries very hard, and I admire the effort they put into using fresh, organic ingredients, but it just doesn't thrill me. Second, I want to say that the hotel where JJJ is located, is a really nice hotel. Definitely the nicest hotel in Lancaster. Very comfortable, "cool" and the only place I'd choose to stay (at least for now... they're building a new Marriott hotel downtown that looks like it will be pretty nice). Third -- and I want to make sure everyone knows this -- the restaurant (John J. Jeffries) and the hotel (The Lancaster Arts Hotel) have NOTHING to do with each other, besides sharing the same building. They are completely separate businesses (you can't even charge your dinner to your room if you're staying at the hotel) and I don't think that the Hotel should have to suffer from the bad reviews of the restaurant! read more

They have a round check-in desk, 3 masked employees were facing the entrance behind the desk. A voice from the back side of the station called to us saying she could check us in around the back. We followed the voice, only to see a seated woman, hidden from the front view, NO MASK. I asked whether she was required to wear one. She said no. It was incredibly uncomfortable to check in, and we stood back very far from her. I referred back to their Covid policies on the website, clear as day it said all staff would be masked. The manager said there was a health issue that prevented her from wearing a mask. How she is permitted to interact with guests, be the first impression of the hotel, and be alongside 3 other workers in a tight space is mind-boggling. One and done. My boyfriend and I frequently stay here for our nights out in Lancaster or celebratory occasions. We have NEVER been so much as slightly disappointed. The rooms, from a classic two bed room to a studio suite, are always comfortable, classy and somehow homey, while the staff is more than welcome and accommodating. The continental breakfast has a variety of options, the in-hotel restaurant is very nice, along with the bar. Lovely, well-designed, well-run hotel: the place to stay if you're visiting Lancaster. There's lots to like here. The architects and designers have done a terrific job of re-envisioning an historic building, resulting in a really interesting architecture that makes great use of the building without being schlocky. A lot of natural materials--brick walls, stonework, slate tiles in the showers, wood floors--add to the ambiance. In keeping with its name, the hotel functions as an art gallery for numerous local artists, whose work hangs in the lobby, corridors and other public spaces as well as the rooms. Most of it's for sale. Some of it is interesting, some not very good: but it's all lively and far from the ugly, mass-produced prints in so many hotels. We've stayed in a number of the rooms: they're well furnished, comfortable, and cozy. The bathrooms are well laid out, spacious, and comfortable. The beds are very comfortable and made up with luxury linens. The hotel uses Tarocco shampoos & products: well made, natural, with a refreshing, not cloying, orange smell. And when you walk into a room, they smell good: not only is the hotel smoke-free, but they clearly use green cleaning products that don't leave behind obnoxious odors. The staff is friendly and helpful and they pay attention to details. I have a few minor quibbles and you should be aware of them. The interior soundproofing at the hotel isn't great, so if you are a light sleeper, be sure to request a quiet room. On our recent stay, the people in an adjacent room had a child who cried a lot. All night. When we alerted the hotel staff, they moved us to a different room that was really quiet. And the front of the hotel is on a busy street (Harrisburg Avenue), so if you're bothered by street noise, be aware. There are a lot of nice touches: the Y across the street is a great place to work out--get a pass from the front desk; the hotel has bicycles if you need them; you can charge meals at a number of local restaurants to your room. These are just a few of the ways in which LAH pays attention to detail. We had a drink at the bar one night. There's a small menu of house cocktails, a good beer list, and an interesting wine list. We didn't try the food at the restaurant, but will on our next stay: the menu is intriguing. There are also some good restaurants nearby: Gibraltar is less than a mile away and is excellent. To a point that another reviewer made: the rooms at LAH aren't "cheap." But there are plenty of less-expensive alternatives around: Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, b&bs, etc. If you're looking for comfort and a distinctive, unusual environment, look no further than Lancaster Arts Hotel. read more

The Lancaster Arts must be the best hotel anywhere around Lancaster. The hotel has beautiful rooms (some of which are the size of apartments in urban centers) and wonderful dining. From the moment one enters the hotel, one hears the sounds of the amazing bar and restaurant that is not overpriced for what it offers and provides a wonderful selection of food and drink. Once one enters his/her room, it is all about the detail. Because Lancaster is the "red rose city," each bed has a rose or rose pedals on it. The hotel had a notice on the front door that masks must be worn in the hotel. Checking in 9/19 the hotel desk attendant checked us in without a mask. Saw her later in the day, still no mask. The blanket at the bedside was filthy. Clearly visible crusty something in three spots. Yuck. Took it to housekeeping for exchange. Huh, just huh. That was my first impression on seeing our room for the first time. The exposed brick and beams are beautiful, but the room was on the small side and comes off very dark due to paint color and furnishings. It aims for eclectic elegance, but somehow falls short. And there is a funk smell I couldn't quite put my finger on. It has a smoke smell but I'm fairly sure it's a smoke free facility. Pros: staff was pleasant, nice reception area where our group hung out after dinner, it's definitely eclectic, loved the individual bottles of Saratoga water next to the bed, the individual toiletries in the bathroom had a lovely blood orange fragrance (you can purchase large bottles at the front desk) and the drawing pad to leave your own artwork is a unique touch. Cons: odd smell hits you as soon as you walk in (by the next day you don't notice it as much), room (201) was small and dark, couldn't find the light switch for the bedside lamp (on the cord behind the nightstand)When I reached under the shade to see if the lamp had a knob, I unleashed a cloud of dust that fell all over the nightstand. There is also track lighting over the bed and the wires sport a thick layer of dust as well. The elevator was desperately slow ( we just started using the stairs). Went hunting for the vending machine (was told by young woman at front desk it was on the 5th floor and there wasn't one) finally located it after asking someone later and found it on the 3rd floor. Unfortunately couldn't get it to take dollar bills but the gentleman at the front desk gladly made change for me. But these are knit picky issues. Very cool artwork, spacious rooms. Our room had two queen size beds and a couch that had a pull out bed. The beds were very comfortable. The front desk staff was very helpful and gave us information about where to eat in town. This hotel is centrally located and we were close to everything. This reservation was made on August 15. I received a call the following date August 16 from this facility, telling me they did not have the room I reserved available, and they could put me in a double queen room for the same dates. I agreed to the change, and she changed my reservation. This obviously is not what I reserved through the "third party booking", since THEY called ME and changed my room. In my opinion, they could provide some type of compensation, other than a free voucher. Why would I want to stay here again after you read the following events. We checked in on August 20, after 3pm, we went up to room 411 to find the door open, and a ladder blocking us from entering. The maintenance person said "Why did they send you to a room when they know the a/c unit isn't working?" I called the front desk, and was told I would have another room in 15 minutes, and to come wait downstairs. We ended up waiting over an hour, and then we were put back into room 411, which was 76 degrees. We left our belongings and went to dinner. When we returned, it was still 76 and the fan was blowing air, but it was not cool air. It was late, and I have a recent spinal infusion I am recovering from, and I needed to rest and us a medical bone stim device. The temperature never lowered, and we couldn't sleep under the sheets, it was too warm. The next morning we mentioned it after breakfast. A maintenance man was sent back with us, and he proceeded to do the same thing we witnessed the first employee doing the day before. We decided to leave for our planned day, and left the room with the employee working on the a/c unit. We returned about 4 hours later, and asked before we went up to the room if the unit had been repaired. We were told yes, and if it wasn't, to let them know. We came back because I wanted to rest and use my medical device for my spinal fusion, which is a 2 hour process. The door was unlocked, and the room was not any cooler. There were no signs of the maintenance employee, which means the man left the door open the ENTIRE TIME we were out of the room. Anyone who wanted to could have walked in and stolen anything they wanted. We again called you to report that the room was hot. The maintenance worker returned, did nothing different, and said "Give it 15 minutes". Not even ten minutes go by, and the maintenance worker we encountered the first day returns with a portable a/c unit. We hadn't called back; he just showed up in our room. At this point I was in my medical device, trying to rest. This man was extremely polite, kind, and fun to talk with. All of the employees were very polite, I will say, and I can say it wasn't their fault. They all did what comes from the top down. We went out later for the evening and were able to sleep in the room with the portable a/c unit, although it did allow more street noise into the room. The next morning, I was in the shower when the front desk called the room to say that maintenance would be up sometime today about the a/c unit. My boyfriend said "ok" as there was a knock on the door. He did not know that meant "immediately", and I was not dressed, or comfortable with a stranger coming in while I'm showering. We asked them to come back later. My boyfriend called the front desk to let them know "sometime today" did not mean "immediately". At this point I had enough. We went and had breakfast and afterwards reported all of this to the front desk. She told us she would let the manager know and have an answer when we checked out. We told her it was going to be immediately, and she said that was fine. I did not want to spend any more of my vacation with the maintenance staff. The answer you given was they could do nothing because of the "third party booking" and I would receive a voucher in the mail for "one free night". At this point, please tell me WHY you think this is a satisfactory solution after everything we went through? To add insult to injury, we asked Wednesday night if we could get more water for our room. The girl at the front desk asked, "Did you drink what you had?" When we replied "yes", she said, "Well, you have to pay for it, you only get one bottle." I was stunned speechless. I have NEVER stayed anywhere that did not replace water bottles provided in the room. We had 2 bottles when we arrived Tuesday, and after housekeeping came Wednesday, they replaced the coffee, but not the water, which we both thought was an oversight. The nightmare continues... My bank account is showing a withdrawal from The Lancaster Arts hotel for 480.78. That is $150 more than what I was quoted and charged and agreed to. The amount on the receipt at check-out is $330.78. I've obviously been socked with a charge after all of this, and I have NO IDEA for what! read more

My wife and I visited Lancaster Arts Hotel to celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The room was not a good value for the money. More importantly, the staff was very not responsive during our stay. The deluxe continental breakfast was a disaster. When we arrived in the breakfast area, every table was piled high in dirty dishes. There were no clean dishes and none of the food had been restocked. We left in disgust. If I could give a rating of 0 stars, I would. To add insult to injury, they refused to reimburse us for breakfast at a nearby restaurant for the two mornings of our stay. read more

The person at the desk gave us what appeared to be, based on the photos of the hotel, a studio with a king bed, but not the "spacious room" described or pictured on their website. Maybe they just shortchanged us because we reserved on hotels.com. But it was a small room with a VERY small bathroom. If that's what a "king deluxe" room is, I'm glad we didn't pay full price! I'm going to review this as a hotel only, not as a restaurant or bar. The hotel is probably not everyone's taste - if you like your hotel rooms to be completely predictable, find a chain. If you like to stay somewhere with some character, then LAH is your ticket. It is housed in a beautiful old brick industrial building, so the rooms have very high ceilings with exposed brick walls and beams. Everything is very "cool and trendy" and just about every piece of art you see in the place is for sale - none of it is cheap, so don't go hunting for bargains, but it is interesting and beautiful. The amenities in the hotel are very high quality, from the toiletries to the flat screen LCD TV, to the free WiFi. The staff is extremely friendly. The room rates are NOT cheap, but you're paying for the trendiness of it all - you'd never think you were in Lancaster, PA! My only complaint does have to do with food - the breakfast included with the room leaves a LOT to be desired. I would recommend skipping it and finding someplace else. read more

Lancaster Arts Hotel is a great. Reclaimed brick manufacturing building made into a hotel. Rooms come complete with an exposed brick wall. Art is everywhere. The lobby walls, the rooms and even guest sketches in the elevator. So I tried to leave with the mattress on my back, but it was too heavy. I had a seriously comfortable nights sleep. I didn't want to leave the room. I made sure to have nap time. Expensive. Close to town. I loved staying here. read more
