First timers in Vail. Looking for a place for lunch (at 4:30pm), since we just got in and found Lancelot. Just an excellent place for Happy Hour and meals/drinks. After leaving another restaurant for poor reception and service, we decided on this place. The reception was warm and the place was cozy. Staff greeted us and suggestions were made as to which drinks and food were their specialties for happy hour. They specialize in prime rib which was delicious but their other meals as well as drinks like Sangria were very good. Had the Mexico Margarita and that was excellent as well. We had muscles, fries with parmesan cheese, spinach with artichoke, scallops with bacon, plus one or two that I forgot, but all was good and tasty. everything was finished. We always eat at Lancelot's when we stay in Vail. I always get the prime rib, med rare and it is incredible. My older son ordered the filet for a change and we both decided it was the best filet we have ever had. This is comparing to Morton's and Bob's chop house. The filet was so tender you could cut it with your fork and the flavor was outstanding. Between appetizers, dinner and of course cheesecake for dessert, Lancelot's will always be our favorite place to dine. The service is also impeccable. read more

This is an unfriendly place. Not friendly. Good food at a high price. That's not the problem...it's Vail. But my wife and I felt monitored the entire time. We are everyday people. Maybe we aren't the ideal patron. But very put off on the pretentious atmosphere. If you visit regularly, spend your money elsewhere. This place has a preference. read more

After walking around the village looking for a decent place to have dinner, I was pleasantly surprised by with place. Great selection of wine and excellent service. The waiter told me they are known for their prime rib and he was absolutely correct. It turned out to be the best prime rib I have ever had. My girlfriend had a nice piece of crusted sea bass, which was also excellent. We had spent a weekend in Vail about 3 months before this particular visit and at the time, we had a hard time deciding where to eat. I wish I would have known about this place then. Excellent prime rib and fantastic desserts. (Have had the pasta previously -- also very good.) Yes, it's pricy - but that's pretty much standard in Vail! Out towner and we were trying to find someplace to eat. Saw a lot of people dining in so we try Lancelot. I had there cab steak and scrimp combination. The wife had scrimp linguini and both dishes were good. i did enjoyed the clam chowder it was lite and good. The only issue I had was we didn't make a reservation , but we were put in a dungeon away from the main dining area. I saw a lot of open table even though I didnt have a reservation. Overall , I would say they have good quality food and bit pricey on what there serving. read more

It's off season so the town is very quite. We just stumbled upon this place. There were only about five or six other tables seated when we arrived. Very good menu selection and attentive pleasant service. Food was great. Pumpkin Ravioli was a hit. We had the French Onion Soup, Caesar Salad, Wedge salad and the Trout. A great choice of you want an old school steak or prime rib dinner. We were sick of "pretty food" and just wanted some basic meat, salad, potatoes. What we got was exactly what we expected. It isn't trendy but still really nice. The wine list was better than we expected. And the apple strudel dessert was amazing. What I liked mostly was our waitress, GiGi who was on top of everything. Where to begin... I'll start with the staff whose warm welcoming made me and my party feel right at home. Our waitress, Jen G., was out of this world! Her knowledge of the menu and attentiveness was second to none! Be sure to request her as your server! The cocktails were all phenomenal! The array of deliciously unique martinis are to die for! I would also recommend the strawberry kiss! Last but not least, the food! I had the Kings Cut prime rib and it was wonderful. The prime rib here is supposed to be "the big thing". Again, (see my review of Russell's) Vail's "best" would be out of business in one year in New York City. If you know what a real steak joint is, don't bother with this experience. The only meal in Vail that was reliably predictable was McDonalds.... *sigh* ...Oh well. Excellent menu - we had trouble deciding on what to get so ended up splitting 3 appetizers (escargots, butternut squash bisque, mussels) between the 2 of us. I'm glad we did because, much like a parent of 3 can't imagine what life would be life without one of their children, I cannot imagine our night with only 2 of the above appetizers. Filet mignon was amazing, which was expected given our location, however being from cattle country myself, I wasn't expecting it to be THAT good. Veal ambrosia was phenomenal. We didn't make it to dessert but that was not due to lackluster effort on our part. Good food value overall plus the wine list includes some very reasonably priced reds. With a bottle of Mondavi cab ($50?) plus all of the food listed above, bill with tax and tip was $150. Service was VERY good and I am somewhat of a stickler in that category. Outdoor seating area is great; can't comment on indoor dining area but it was packed from 9-10pm on a Saturday. We'll definitely be back. read more

Best prime rib in the world. Period. Priced fairly and you get a lot to eat. Comes with sour cream, butter, and real bacon bits. Bread rolls are hot and incredible. I have never had anything other than the prime rib after over 100 meals here. I'm a local. My only suggestion is that they don't include salads with the meal. Food is quite boring -comparable to hearing a story told by your grandmother for the 60th time. Lancelot refresed their ambience; trying to be innovative with the new menu and contemporary in decor. Nevertheless, new lighting fixtures and table cloths can't fix the root of their underlying problems (limited options on beverage and entre menu & in general the bland cusine). To begin, the surf was good turf not...horrible beer selection and no vodka red bulls...If i am snowboarding all day, vodka & redbull is a great pick-me-up! Also, the hot totties need to increase in size . However, our waiter Julius was fab. Lancelot does have great serivice, however, service and cusine should go hand in hand. read more

Beware the steak restaurant that has prime rib as its signature dish. I had the rib eye, which was done correctly but was certainly nothing special. My wife had the cab and shrimp combo, and the cab steak was simply inedible. There was no way you could actually chew and swallow a piece of this steak. They were nice enough to switch it out for some prime rib (again done well, but not exceptional). I can't imagine that we would go back here again, but the fine service provided in the face of a bad meal brings them up to 2 stars. read more

Having lived in the Vail area for 20+ years, I went to Lancelot for the first time and had the $20 dinner special. Overall, the food, service and atmosphere were good. The host seemed a little condescending that we didn't have a reservation, but it was a Tuesday night in mid December. read more

Dined with a large party over the Christmas holiday. Lancelot is still about the basics, mainly prime rib. Dont experiment. Service pleasant. Wine list limited with mostly modest wines--it needs work. Tables near windows offer a nice view and a cold draft. read more

This is a must visit when you come to Vail. Escargot was just ok. However the scallops were excellent, and last but not least the King Arthur's cut prime rib was outstanding. Came in on a busy weekend with six people without a reservation. We were asked if we could wait or eat at a large table by the bar. We all elected the bar experience. The ambiance was desirable and the bar area was very clean. The bartender recommended a great bottle of wine to go with our appetizers. Main dishes: The sea bass, served on spinach with coconut, was excellent. The rest of the group had the signature dish: prime rib. As to be expected, the prime rib was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We ordered several deserts. If anyone enjoys Apple Strudel, order it here. Like chocolate? Get the brownie Sunday and pair it with a latte. They have a nice selection of wine. Ask for the seasonal beers. Service was quick and pleasant. All was great! Wish there were a few more side dishes available for the prime rib. Hope they can open for lunch in the future. We will be back for ski season and definitely return for some more prime rib! If in town in the summer, call and reserve an outdoor table on the porch located next to the open space by the river. We went to the Vail Village for dinner to get the full Vail experience after a full day of awesome snow-boarding. We tried Elway's but didn't have a reservation and didn't want to wait an hour and a half. They recommended Lancelot's and we were lucky that they had seating for us in the bar. The atmosphere was perfect. The entire staff were nice and friendly. After an exhausting day, we were in the mood for steak and at Lancelot's we were not disappointed.
