My husband and I didn't have high hopes based on the pictures of dishes. Not imaginative or innovative plating I guess. Because it's Vail during Spring ski season, we didn't have a lot of options left; restaurants get booked months in advance. We resolved to have a mediocre meal for exorbitant prices but with the lovely company of friends to make it worthwhile. We banked on at least decent service. Upon arriving, we were further disappointed when we saw a steel coat rack right at the entrance and a refrigerated case of desserts next to the hostess stand. This is acceptable for a diner, NOT for an elegant restaurant. The high rating despite my gripes above is because the meal was outstanding. Again, nothing innovative, but high quality ingredients, perfectly executed traditional French fare. What stood out: Lobster bisque had good quantity of tender fresh lobster meat in a bisque whose consistency was just right- not too creamy or thick and not too thinned out with cheap stock. Seasoned with restraint and rich in flavor without being overpowering. Everyone at the table kept this dish rotating until the dish was wiped clean with bread. Pork chop seasonal special was cooked to perfection. The French style of beef Wellington was also impressive. The pastry was a beautiful light compliment to the decadent buttery soft meat inside. The chocolate soufflé was not up to par unfortunately. Small, barely tasting of chocolate, ours came to the table puffed up, but did not have the satisfying crusty layer on top. It was more of an airy bread pudding type of dessert. A good meal overall but not to the quality their prices would imply. A 3.5 star rating would be more appropriate. Fantastic spot - great service with attention to detail and they don't rush you one bit. That atmosphere was elegant but not stuffy and while the place was packed (apparerntly a bit of a later night crowd) we never felt like it was too loud. The appetizers were excellent and refined. The beef wellington was simply amazing - perfectly done, seasoned, and prepared. The duck entree was tasty but that did leave those that ordered it a bit hungry. Dessert was classic French and worth it - we had the chocolate soufle. We were there in the summer - clearl off season for the crowds and maybe that helped with everything. ...but I think the more negative reviews here are from snotty folks with unrealistic expectations that, frankly, give Vail it's awful (pretentious) reputation. had a truly disappointing experience at Left Bank in Vail. The food was mediocre at best. The prices were completely unjustifiable for the quality. The steak was tough and flavorless, and the sides were under-seasoned. But the worst part was when we got the bill - it included charges we never agreed to, and when we brought this up to the manager, he was unapologetic and condescending, as if we were the ones in the wrong. Instead of offering any form of resolution, he argued with us and acted like it was our fault for not noticing the upcharges earlier. We ordered a "Market Price" item off the menu, after specifically asking the waitress if we should do that item, or the filet, for the 2 of us - to which they suggested the MP item and not mentioning it was 4x the price. The entire experience felt like a scam - poor service, overpriced food, and deceitful practices. I will never be returning to Left Bank again, and I would advise anyone considering it to look elsewhere. The menu is expansive and is comparable to the best of what you'd find in Chicago or NYC, in the tier just below star-seeking fine dining. We sampled a wide variety of items on the menu and were pleased by everything. Some upselling at the beginning was annoying, reminding us of Miami. No, we didn't want 8.8oz of caviar with no price quoted. Also, our waitress, though nice, was spotty once things got moving. The food was ordinary -- certainly not worth the price, and there are at least a dozen places in Vail with better food for comparable prices. The service was bad. My companion ordered a glass of wine with his entrée, but the sommelier didn't bring it out until we had finished our meal. We had been trying to get the attention of the sommelier or any server of any kind for quite a while. When the staff passed through the dining room, they never scanned the room to see if anyone was trying to get their attention. We noticed this repeatedly and it became a joke: as if the staff had been trained to deliberately ignore the patrons. When the sommelier finally brought the wine, we complained, and the sommelier said they were very busy ... but the dining room was half empty. We asked if they could deduct the wine from the bill or offer us a free dessert or anything to compensate, but the sommelier refused. Avoid this restaurant. read more

Our host arrived at 4:30. We couldn't arrive till five because we had to drop our son off at The babysitters. Upon arrival our host the maître D let him know that he needed the table back by 6:30, in my opinion this is a horrible start. He should keep his mouth shut and try to expedient the table through prompt service and hope to get it back by the time he desired. The restaurant was empty until we left at 8 o'clock. There's still five tables open that never got sat The entire time we're there . The food did not meet expectations. The bouillabaisse was bland underseasoned and I got maybe 5 ounces of fish or seafood in my dish lobster special also very underwhelming way too rich., Also a lobster special with under 3 ounces of lobster in the dish . the wine and the soufflé were wonderful. The service also was great but server Alex added a gratuity onto our four top without asking this is on a $1300 bill for four people again extremely underwhelming and the mature D should not have a job. I haven't been to LeftBank in 25 years. I've been in the service industry for 40 owning a restaurant in the Vail Valley for 20 of those years and I will not be back for another 25 Years. We were a table of two enjoying the elegance and ambiance of this establishment. We even helped our server laugh off her mistake of asking us how we wanted our Beef Tartar prepared. The food was good. The portions were more than we expected/needed, and there was an overabundance of heavy sauces with our entrées, but we figured that is to be expected in high-end French dining. Sadly, our dining experience and service quickly crumbled. A large, loud, obnoxious group took over the entire dining room. They invaded our personal space to take photos and videos. Women's butts were literally next to my face, I am sure I ended up on their Instagram post! They spanned 3 tables with our two-top in the center. They yelled across us to each other as if we were not even there. It was appalling. What was more appalling is not only could The Left Bank servers and management not control this group they actually gave all their attention to this group. Essentially encouraging the abhorrent behavior. We were forgotten. We waited ~30 minutes for the remainder of our meal to be served. We then had to wait 10+ minutes for our check - wine glasses empty. When asked, by the manager, if we enjoyed our meal we explained our disappointment in how our service plummeted. We got a lame excuse of it being a busy night. Not true, there were several other empty tables in the house. If you can't handle this capacity, then how can you possibly handle a full house? Dear The Left Bank, you are not responsible for people who do not know how to behave in public, but you are responsible for customer service. You must not provide service based on group size. The per/person ratio of money spent is equivalent. In fact our ratio was likely larger given our 100% drinking age and the larger group was 75% underage. Shame on you, your customer service is subpar and unacceptable at this price point. We visit Vail each year. Sadly, we don't think The Left Bank will be included in any of our future visits. read more

We went expecting pricey French-style restaurant and that is exactly what we got. We were a little concerned because Octoberfest was underway and the Oom-pah band outside the front door was deafening. Fortunately the restaurant is in the back of the building and the music was inaudible. Whew. The decor is spare and extremely tasteful. We settled into very comfortable chairs for a night of indulgence. The staff were extremely knowledgeable, efficient, and friendly without the unctuousness that staff at high-end restaurants sometimes have. I started with the escargot because if I'm only going to get access to a French restaurant once a decade or so I'm going to have snails. They were delicious and perfectly prepared. My wife ordered the lamb for our mains and the server pointed out that usually this dish is split between two people so we shared it. It was perfect. The other thing I appreciated about Left Bank was they don't nickle and dime you. I find more and more places that will ask if you want bread and it will show up as a $10 charge on your bill. None of that here and the sour dough bread was perfect for sopping up the butter and garlic from the escargot plate. Yum. If you are looking for a classic French restaurant and are in the mood to drop some coin this is an excellent choice. read more

My husband and I made reservations for a Saturday night dinner while in Vail visiting for a work trip. I was a little hesitant based on other reviews but I wanted to share a review because our experience was so pleasant. This is a traditional French restaurant, and that is exactly why I loved it. Our service was impeccable. The food was delicious. We had the caviar (with all the accoutrements), truffle pasta which was a special, the filet, and chocolate soufflé, plus wine. This was by far the most memorable dinner experience our entire trip, plus the original chef/founder (Chef Luc) was enjoying dinner at the table next to us; we said hello! This restaurant offered al Fresca dining during lunch + it was perfectly shaded! It was right by the creek, so while we were waiting for our food, our daughter got to play by there and we were still able to see her. I was in the mood for a lighter fare, so we ordered the lobster roll & and the pain bagnat. Both were really good items. The lobster roll was definitely not what I expected... not the New England style where it's lobster in drawn butter tucked in buttery bread. It was prepared similar to a chicken salad of what appeared to be mayo and dill. It was still very good, but not my favorite. The customer service was superb and I even got to check out the dining area upstairs that was used for dinner. Quite a lovely space. I do not eat a lot of French cuisine, but I imagine a lot of this was authentic. Would I be back, when I return to Vail? Most definitely! I'd love to try dinner there sometime upon visiting again. Probably not a good place to dine if don't have a reservation beforehand. We got there at 5pm today, time of opening on November 22, 2022 and despite no one there and during off season in November 2022, the host/gentleman, or staff checking if there is occupancy, quickly apologized and said no seating available. He did not bother to provide a wait time. Although no adverse action was condoned or took place, the fact that he did not even check to see if there might be availability later in the evening was a bit demonstration of poor etiquette. For those, that are in favor of French cuisine we highly recommend La Tour, a French restaurant and only a 5 min walking distance from the Left Bank restaurant. Would not recommend this place to anyone! The service was incredibly slow, took us 30 minutes just to get our drink order and the food was terrible, especially for the price they charge. When we walked in, there was a couple leaving the restaurant complaining about the service as well, we should've turned around then. The vibe is also dead. My most favorite French restaurant in my world. Love the Chef and the incredible staff. The food is divine and the service is immpeccable in a beautiful setting on the Gore river. I love everything on the menu from steak au povire, trout, dover sole, caviar, appetizers, lobster soup, and the desserts are absolutely gorgeous and yummy..yes I could go on and on. Plus the most extenive wine list I have ever seen which is rare these days. I can't imagine why they would not get a 5 star review everytime. And I LOVE the EXPERIENCE they work very hard to make sure you are very happy as they are experts in service and so delightful and not stuffy. This is always my go to place when I am visiting Vail. The Left Bank was my first dining experience since COVID-19. I was a bit cautious to re-enter the restaurant world but needed a break from the monotony of loading and unloading the dishwasher 4 times a day. To help put diners at ease, they are now offering patio seating behind the restaurant near the river. So awesome! I've wanted more of this in Vail for years. The weather in the Valley is almost always beautiful and the evenings are spectacular. Not to mention the people watching. The service was welcoming and professional while adhering to our new normal. We started with the Beef Tartar, Salmon Cru, and Burrata. We shared the Pepper Steak for our entree then finished with lemon ice cream (housemade in little frozen lemons, the cutest thing I've ever seen). Everything was delicious and someone else did my dishes. A really great evening, thank you for making it so enjoyable. I know it is not easy in this current state. Excellent service and phenomenal food. Our waiter (Brian? from Chicago) was great. Super attentive and really friendly but not a lingerer. Our table ordered wine and the Paloma for drinks. The Paloma drink was a little weak and our server gladly brought it back to the bar and added another shot of tequila. The bread - both sourdough and multi-grain were fresh and tasty. The olive oil was really good too. The salmon app was a 7/10 and my grandpa loved the beef tartare. For entrees, we ordered the Dover sole entree (enough for two), the veal chops, and the caviar. Everything was great - definitely smaller portions so if you are hungry I would order a few more appetizers. Each of the entrees comes with a small salad but it is super light. We didn't opt for dessert but they have a made-to-order chocolate and Grand Marnier souffle that sounded delicious. I'm very conflicted in my review of this restaurant. My husband and I came here with friends for our first dinner in Vail. The decor is lovely and the atmosphere is soothing and romantic. Seated by a window, I had high hopes for a special evening. We were promptly served water and ordered a cocktail and a bottle of wine (a pricey one). This is when the service started to veer off course. It took ATLEAST 15 minutes to retrieve the bottle and serve the single martini ordered. In all, it was over 30 minutes from the time we were seated to the time we ordered. This was the last time our server poured our wine. We served ourselves the rest of the evening. The table ordered two bowls of tomato soup, two bowls of onion soup, 2 orders of duck, the tenderloin, and the salmon. The tomato soup was basically lukewarm tomato sauce, topped with tasteless puff pastry. It was awful. My husband and I politely ate a bit, but after 3 spoonfuls, I had to decline due to the severe acidity and lack of flavor. Our friends seemed to like their onion soup. The entree presentation was seriously lacking. I had asked for no starch and extra vegetables with my salmon cooked medium--I received a well cooked piece of fish with 6 pieces of small vegetables and a pasty side of sauce. My husband received an over sauced (that was fairy bland), over cooked steak. At this point, had we been dining out ourselves, we would have left. The food was THAT BAD. Our friends seemed to enjoy their duck, so we didn't want to ruin their experience. Chocolate soufflé came for dessert--it was decent, but the server brought the wrong sauce. We asked for the valhrona chocolate and the server said they served Valhalla chocolate--seriously. He didn't even know the name of a menu item ingredient. He even corrected me twice. He later came out and somewhat apologized when he found he was incorrect. All in all, I am shocked this place is able to survive in the competitive environment that is Vail. Outstanding!!!! We enjoyed our meal so much last year, that we decided to come again during our usual ski week in Vail. Honestly, it was the best meal we had in Vail - and we ate at some really nice places this week. Our server, Ashley T - who was from Asheville,NC was so very nice, friendly and helpful - not to mention efficient! They have quite a bit of selection for vegan/vegetarians which I was happy for. The French Onion Soup is vegetarian and so delicious! My husband had the tomato soup with a puff pastry topping and it was excellent as well. He ordered the lamb and thoroughly enjoyed it. The chef happily created a pasta dish for me that was not on the menu. It was amazing! I've been coming to the Vail Valley every year since 1974. There are very few places in Vail that have stood the test of time. It's one of my "go-to" restaurants when I'm in town. There is a reason why the Left Bank has been in Vail for 40+ years so don't let these negative reviews from so called "foodies" fool anyone. It's real simple, if you don't like the Left Bank, you don't like French food. I am a foodie by every definition of the word. I live in NYC where my wife and I eat out every single day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). We have eaten at every Michelin star restaurant and over 75% of Zagat in NYC. We travel all over the world to eat at the best restaurants and then tour the cities that house them... in that order. The Left Bank serves traditional french fare from various regions of France with a touch of American taste thrown in there to accommodate everyone.The Gigolette d'Agneau and Côte de Veau aux Asperges are my favorites here. Just save room for the chocolate soufflé. Its the best I've ever had, anywhere in the world (yes, France too). read more

This place is attached to our hotel, we met friends first night and had a few drinks. Btw the drinks were mostly wine/bourbon pours. MJ the bartender was nice but was super slow due to her also making drinks for the restaurant. Well we left our phone number for a possible dinner reservation for a few days later. My husband about an hour after leaving gets a call from Andy. He used the number left for that purpose but instead and called and ask about the service, he was concerned about the service because they left $30 on $300 tab but one of those drinks alone was $65 bourbon pour. Btw we didn't pay so we didn't know what the heck was happening then Andy suggest we increase the tip. Was bizzare. Mostly because we proceeded to ask other bartenders at surrounding bar/restaurant and they under no circumstances expected 20% unless was hours or full meal. It gets better, we decide ok we will go back, we walk in 8:15pm MJ points us out to Andy, he proceeds to say they don't have room. The place was empty. Btw we planned to get dessert and drinks. We leave Andy proceeds to then ask again about the service. Like wtf Andy are too serious? No wonder you have so many bad reviews online about your slow service but this is a new experience. Good news to Andy and MJ, we found another bar where they were friendly, actually in it for drinks and we made sure to tip extra well. Your experience made us appreciate other service so much more. I'm conflicted over how to review Left Bank -- went with the Bennetts the other night, my favorite family of fabulous eaters and my "in-laws", and while the Left Bank is always their favorite place, it left me quite unimpressed. To be fair, apparently it was an off night, but for $85-100 each w/o wine, I would have expected a bit more polish. The decor is a bit dowdy (yes, that awning INSIDE of the dining room was appropriate in 1980, but probably not in 2011) -- and as it was December, Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" was blaring -- totally adding to the authenticity of the place -- those out of sync details aside, the menu is thoroughly French and I do believe that you can get good food there, just apparently not when I'm present. While my hearts of palm salad came doused in a cocktail sauce that would have been at home at the Red Lobster, the elk carpaccio was much enjoyed, as were the lamb chop starters. For mains, if you want to have a heart attack, hit to vol au vent -- my bouillabasse was fine, but for $40, I wanted more than 5 mussels, 2 scallops, and maybe 3 shrimp. Oh, and Nathan's order was clearly just throw together -- I think he missed the mussels entirely. Desserts were uninspired -- souffle tasting of nothing and two entirely different versions of the same pear tarte arrived at our table. And get this, the pastry chef did the worse version. Perhaps something is lost in translation? To continue my debbie downer review, the service was really scattered with multiple people taking our orders and a clear lack of internal communication present, Leaving me to implore the fussy consumer to spend your food dollars and caloric intake elsewhere. read more

We really enjoyed this restaurant for dinner. Had a table by the window with nice views of the river and trees. The inside has a very nice, lively ambience. The food was amazing! One our sons is becoming a foodie and loved the lobster bisque for a starter. He ordered the kids trout for his entree (which he has never tried) and ate it all including the skin! Our other son ordered pasta and said it was the best pasta he has ever had (ironic as this is a French restaurant :) My wife had the lobster bisque, as well, and the burrata appetizer as her entree - both were amazing. I started with the seared foie gras and had the elk chops as my entree. Both were absolutely incredible! The sommelier was very helpful and his wine recommendation was spot on. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is the service. Our server was wonderful when he could attend to us, but he was overwhelmed with tables (not located immediately together) and we went a long time after being seated before he stopped at our table. And, throughout the whole meal if we needed something it was difficult to get his attention as he was scrambling to attend to all of his tables in various areas (including a large party next to us). I don't fault him for this, but it seems that management should do a better job of allocating tables so that the service is 5 star. The server in the section next to us had about 5 tables all clustered together and he was able to manage them beautifully. We will definitely return on our next trip, but hope that they can better manage table allocation for the servers. read more

The Left Bank is one of our go to restaurants in Vail. We own a business here and clients always ask for food recommendations. Left Bank never disappoints us or or clients. The food is consistently expertly prepared and the atmosphere is friendly and fun. The Dover Sole and Tomato Basil soup are some of the favorites! The wine list is phenomenal, so many quality choices. In the busiest times of the year, yes, you may have to wait a few extra minutes but it is always worth it as they treat each and every customer like they are the most important ones in the room. read more

The princess of Thailand was leaving this restaurant the day we checked into the Sitzmark, and it came highly recommended by the mixologist at another restaurant, so I had to come. Left Bank was a very charming space, and right when we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the owner (wife of the chef), Kimberly. She made us feel completely welcome. They had a very impressive wine list with many premium French selections and some hard to find bottles. The mark ups are very reasonable, and the wine list made for good reading. We ended up with wines by the glass, and the Gin Fizz off the cocktail list was my personal favorite. The menu is very classically French, and the chef is straight up from France. Our server was also French, and it just felt like a very European experience. Starters: - Beef tartare: made with filet, very tender, fresh, nicely seasoned, and the cornichons added good texture and some tartness. It was slightly spicy and went well with the grilled bread - Tomato soup: for once, a non-cream based tomato soup, so it actually tasted like unadulterated tomatoes. The puff pastry on top was crisp and kept the soup super hot - French onion soup: vegetable based but still with tons of flavor. The cheese was melted perfectly and not left in big chunks the way many restaurants leave it Each entree came with a house salad, which was lightly dressed. Entrees: - I chose the scallop appetizer as my entree, and the scallops were huge. They were cooked perfectly, and the curry sauce was an unexpected surprise. I was most impressed with the knife work of the chef, as each tiny cube of vegetables in there was the exact same size. The portion was definitely enough for my main course - Bouillabaisse: amazingly fragrant broth, tons of plump shrimp, lobster, scallops, and a ton of clams. It came with a side of rice and garlic croutons with rouille It was very filling and was a really good value - Pasta: not on the menu but made by the chef for my mom, who's a vegetarian. It had lots of vegetables and the same impressive knife work. My only complaint was that there was a bit too much butter. Dessert: I was so happy to find perfectly risen souffles. They were super light and with just the right amount of sweetness. We got one of each (chocolate and grand marnier), and it's hard to say which one I liked better because they were both uniquely good. The chocolate one had a deeper chocolate flavor, and the grand marnier had subtle orange and a good amount of liqueur flavor to it. Of course they sent us cookies and meringues at the end. I was so stuffed. I tend to eat less French food because it tends to be heavy, but the chef here does many traditional dishes in a "Mediterranean style," without cream or butter, which was awesome. Go to the many other better places in vail, like McDonalds for example..... Horrible decor, smells old and has tacky wallpaper and fake flowers. The owner/hostess is rude, unprofessional and maybe even bipolar. Over priced. Had to send back my fishy fish. Was rushed through dinner because they needed our table for the poor fools that were uneducated enough to eat here. Need I say more. Don't waste your money. read more
