Michelle and her team at Lands End Physical Therapy are absolutely fantastic. What really stood out to me is how Michelle takes the time to truly ask questions and listen to what's going on, instead of just putting you through a routine of weekly stretches and strengthening exercises. The care feels very personalized and intentional. I went in with an LCL tear, and with their help I was able to get back to 110%. One of the things I appreciated most was their use of the Stride Hub app. It made it easy to review my exercises anytime, which was incredibly helpful when I forgot details like how long to hold a stretch. The team is also extremely responsive whenever questions come up. 10 out of 10, I would recommend them. I cannot say enough wonderful things about LEPT and Micheline's team. I previously did physical therapy at UCSF and unfortunately had a terrible experience, so I was hesitant to try again. After waiting a couple of months to get into LEPT, I finally understood why the waitlist is so long--it is absolutely worth it. This is going to be an unusual review, because I'm actually not a patient. I was injured at work, and needed some physical therapy. My company's insurer hired a "scheduling company" that gave me a list that included Lands End. I read the Yelp reviews, and it looked like where I wanted to go. When the paper-pushers tried to schedule, they reported that the number has been disconnected. Well, I wasn't going to accept no for an answer that easily, so I called the number, and somebody picked up right away! She explained that they haven't taken workers comp cases for almost a decade, but they were getting so many calls they had to block the paper-pushers. As it turns out, Lands End can't treat me ... but they were sympathetic to my plight, and did more than I'd expect to keep from leaving me hanging! read more

I was excited to come here for PT after seeing all the positive reviews but my experience even just making an appointment was terrible. Their voicemail says you can text them but when I tried to schedule an appointment by text I got a rude message in return saying they don't schedule them by text. But they don't pick up the phone ever. And when I finally got someone to call me back the lady was super condescending and talked to me like I was stupid because my HMO insurance card didn't say the medical group name. I started going to Land's End for physical therapy about a year ago. I was having residual hip pain from a bad fall on a boat. The owner, Micheline Cerra, has been in the business thirty years. She tailor-made a fitness program to rehabilitate my hip and get me up and moving again. I was given hands-on instruction by one of her staff members. I was also sent my exercise plan via e-mail so I can do them at home. It's a small operation very centrally located and easy to get to without a car. The appointment begins with a check-in consultation, and then one of the P.T. Aide's applies a heat pack to your trouble spot for ten minutes. After that, you'll have a few minutes to relax before moving into your first set of exercises. In my case, these take place atop a massage table. After that, the next set takes place in the exercise area and will be done on the floor or on a mat or against the wall. I like to spend my last half-hour on the Peloton bike. Before you leave, you return to one of three cozy rooms and are back at rest on a massage table, then ice is applied to the area you're focusing on by one of the highly-skilled P.T. Aides. After ten minutes, you're free to go or wait to have a wrap-up with Micheline Cerra, owner of Land's End. Micheline is a very compassionate person; she is so well-suited for this line of work. I must say the whole staff are very professional and are always looking out for one's best interest. So, if you're looking for a P.T. clinic, that kind of feels like a spa, look no further! After having knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus, I began physical therapy at Lands End Physical Therapy (LEPT). From the first visit, Micheline created an exercise plan to help me recover an strengthen my knee. Each week I worked with Micheline and her incredible staff of Carlo, Megan, and Celine. Over the course of several months my mobility greatly improved and my knee function is just shy of 100%, much to my surprise. After the surgery, I wondered if I would ever walk normally again. I love LandsEnd Physical Therapy! I'm 47 year old that 10 weeks ago had a total right hip replacement. I've been athletic my entire life. I was a swimmer, ballerina, Zumba Instructor, weight lifter, cardio junkie and the list goes on. Erica Hemenway is my physical therapist. She rocks. I see her a couple times a week for in person PT. Lands End uses an app that has all my exercises on it that I can do at home with a resistance band, a ball, a chair and a mat. Erica is helping me get back to me. I really appreciate everything Lands End does. Every employee there is professional, accommodating, knowledgeable and cool. The clients also are really nice. Going to Lands End Physical Therapy, I did have a primary physical therapist, and because of different reasons, I did have the opportunity to work with three physical therapists and most often two aides, and and sometimes another third aide. All had good input to contribute and helped me on my road to recovery. I was having chronic knee issues, and got referred to Lands End through my insurance company, Anthem Blue Cross. I came once a week for 6-8 weeks, working with Micheline or one of her assistants for around an hour each time. This place is AMAZING! From scheduling my first appointment to my last visit, the Lands End Physical Therapy team were kind, professional, and abided by all COVID-19 regulations. I was in car accident which resulted in severe neck & upper back pain as well as lack of mobility. I had hoped I could beat hip osteoarthritis on my own. Ultimately all the imagery came in confirming a severely arthritic bone-on-bone hip joint and I had to get used to the idea that we were going to have to replace it.  Because I consider myself active and athletic, I wanted to intensively focus in advance on building all the strength I could to make surgery a success, and for that I needed to choose a top-notch physical therapist who would not be afraid to intelligently and safely give me everything she's got. This and more is what I found at Lands End Physical Therapy! Micheline Serra oversees the magic, which has grown quickly from her solo practice to include a delightful staff, including delightful PT assistants Kenny and Jen. The space itself is unconventionally beautiful and peaceful, opening to a deck overlooking SOMA, which you might not think of as beautiful just as you might not think of physical therapy as fun. But it's true! Consistent prehab and strength training the right muscles along with all the modalities PT has to offer became a pivotal part my week for several weeks before surgery. In some ways, I got into the best physical shape ever to which I owe the surgery's success. A giant other part of this success has been psychic support. It was tough to have a body part wear out for good and to consider replacing a joint at what I considered an early age. It felt like a failure of my body and my attempts to keep active. I have had other physical professionals give up on me when encountering hurdles like this, and I was constantly battering my self-confidence with these past failures: Did I not have the physical resources? Was I pushing too much? Was I breaking? Was my situation a burden? To the rescue, together in a community of people growing stronger rather than becoming limited, Lands End also provided a weekly infusion of light and positivity during which I could never ask a stupid question and was never left to get lost down rabbit holes alone. Micheline and crew were always there to gently pull me up. Plus they never seemed to get tired of seeing me! *touches wood* After the surgery, the doctor confirmed my hip cartilage was gone and was surprised I had been walking at all before the surgery. He also complimented me on my muscle definition, and pronounced that my recovery should be a walk in the park because of this. Literally, I was walking around and exercising the day after surgery, and am resuming my regular work, now rehab, with Micheline only 10 days post-op. For about 4 months, before and after knee surgery, Lands End PT became a second home, and Micheline and her crew, a second family. My experience with Micheline and team was excellent for three reasons: 1. Expertise - first and foremost, Micheline's practice is top notch. In the very rare situation where she doesn't know the answer, (I had a somewhat rare surgery,) she will do the research and become an expert quickly. 2. Advocacy - not only do you get Micheline and her team's encouragement during your sessions, she also takes your case on as her own, connecting with your doctor on her own time, and ensuring you're getting the most appropriate care. When there's conflict, she's in your corner. 3. In-depth care - Micheline staffs and runs her clinic such that she ensures quality time with each patient. She's a natural healer, and uses touch and connection to help you through the inevitable bumps along the road to recovery. I cannot imagine a more tender and customized caregiver. However, it's not all roses and rainbows at Lands End PT - Micheline will ensure you do your exercises completely, properly, and without looking at your phone, especially while walking backwards on the treadmill. I only have good things to say about my experience with Lands End Physical Therapy. Most importantly, I would recommend them to anyone looking for physical therapy treatment and would certainly return here if I ever need treatment again. I worked primarily with Erica to relieve some knee pain I was having after taking up tennis, and after several months, my pain was gone. I also worked closely with Milla, who was terrific. I was able to easily access detailed descriptions and video recordings of every exercise in my program via an easy-to-use online portal. Everyone in the office was very accommodating when I asked to come in during less busy times, so I wouldn't have to be in close proximity to many others due to my own worries surrounding COVID-19. The office also had air purifiers running in each room and left their sliding door open for ventilation most of the time. Making my payments was extremely easy--I paid my co-pay after each visit and the rest was submitted directly to insurance from the office. I'm grateful for the care they take with their patients and am glad to know where I can return to and refer to others if I ever need to. read more

Micheline and Kenny are wonderful! I am eager to heal from surgery and resume my normal level of activity, but I get sad when I think about discontinuing treatment with them. I had an ankle sprain and a knee sprain in April 2019 and Land's End was recommended by the doctor. They are very attentive and my condition actually improved but four months later it deteriorated to the extent that I could not walk. My issue was somewhat complex and I had to get a new physical therapist who indicated that I had a biomechanics issue and lower body strength problem. I am still in physical therapy after 2 years but am getting better and stronger. I can now walk downstairs and have regained strength in my lower body. Recently, I got an invoice for outstanding balance from 2019 from Land's End. There was no hello and no breakdown of the balance or explanation. In fact I thought it was a phished email because the file that was sent was confusing. A simple hello and an explanation would have been really helpful especially since it has been more than 2 years. Instead I had to sit down and try and recollect the co-payment and the deductible. Decided to update the review to 5 stars as I received further communication and clarification regarding the invoice. read more

I've worked with Micheline twice now, once when she was still a lone practitioner several years ago, and again recently with her current team approach, on lower back issues. I've come out of Lands End each time with excellent results, very much in contrast to some of the other PT studios I went to in the past, one of which was such a "cattle car" operation I actually left in worse shape than when I arrived. Although the bulk of the in-studio sessions this time were overseen by the interns, Micheline met with me every time to provide some of the modalities, as well as to evaluate my progress and discuss ongoing treatment plans. Even on busy days, she still monitored my exercise regime and made suggestions to the supervising intern, if necessary, for small improvements in a given modality. And the interns themselves were pretty much on top of things; I felt they were well trained and knowledgeable enough to really propel my improvement. A shout-out to all of them who worked with me. The one lesser note I have to sound is the same as I've seen in a couple other reviews: The person who acts as phone receptionist/scheduler/office manager(?) sometimes comes off as brusque and somewhat chilly. I'm willing to cut every front-line/customer service worker a lot of slack these days given the pandemic and economic pressures, so I only suggest that this could be a more comfortable entry point with some minor changes. Other than that, Lands End remains my go-to therapy provider--even though it's a trans-Bay BART ride +15-minute walk from my home! read more
