My experience was horrible. 1. I was told the estimate included all costs, just to find out later that I needed an additional 10% to purchase plants. She was clear that the swing, fountain and pergola were my responsibility but did not mention the representative amounts she included in the estimate for the plants. She made a layout to show me what the project would look like, but the trees and plants were not possible within the estimated costs. As the estimate was above what I wanted to spend, I flat out asked if this was the full cost before signing to initiate the work and she said yes. Three people heard her say it. Yet when I confronted her about it, she denied that she said it. 2. Planting plan. I asked for a green and white garden. She emailed me confirming that I wanted a green and white garden. When I received the plan there were bright pink, gold and blue/purple flowers in the plan. When I asked her about it, she said she thought splashes if color would be nice. Maybe..but not what I wanted. The plants could have been done at the beginning of the project. We had to stop work on the yard to wait for Susan to complete the plan just to get one that did not meet my clear request. The plants ended up being a huge project for me. I had to choose most of the plants and then had to verify them before they were planted as substitutions were made without telling me. Had we not noticed, we would not have known until they flowered next Spring when it would have been too late to change them. We also had to insist that she was onsite for the planting even though she told us during the bid process that she would be here because the landscapers wouldn't know what to do without her. 3. Lack of accountability. She was nearly an hour late to an appointment with us during the work day/week were I had to carve out time to meet her. She then had the audacity to say it was my fault because I could not move our meet up an hour on short notice. Whenever things went wrong, she never took any accountability or made any effort to find a solution. When she did enter the conversation, she always made things worse. 4. Arbor. She recommended a motorized arbor. First, the one she showed me turned out to be significantly over my budget. Then the pergola was late (okay supply issues) and then it came in several shipments so the contractor could not plan. They sent a piece for another customer to my house. To finish off, the bases were sent in the wrong color. Several shipments later and a seam that we cannot hide, we still have bases that do not match. To get to the end of the project to have the bases not match is so irritating. In retrospect, I wish I hadn't ordered it at all. 5. Cherry on the sundae, she tried to tell me what I could and could not include in this Yelp review. Bottom line, I feel cheated on a free service. read more

Instead, she worked with us until we were satisfied with her design, she then let us select one of the 3 contractors she recommended to execute her design. She earned design fees from the contractors. We hired her to revamp our front yard landscape during shelter-at-home period. She was extremely knowledgeable of all plants in her design, effectively use computer-aided tool to design our garden, and was very responsive to our requests. I waited 6 months before posting this review so I could see how things settled and I'm still happy with how our front and backyard turned out. Susan Vogel, the company's rep and landscape designer in Northern California, is an experienced professional. She can out immediately for a consultation, listened to my requests, and provided a detailed estimate from 3 different contractors within the week. My husband loved that the estimate was in Excel so you could play with the values (if you don't want something you can remove a line item to get estimate to fit budget). Also, Susan Vogel did the design for FREE within the week. I had been working with a pricey designer who took months and thousands of dollars from me for a sub-par design that I suspected would cost me double their quote. I really appreciated Landscape Locators speed, timely ness and honesty. The amount I paid was the amount that they estimated. Well, it was a tad over, but it was my fault since I added to the design. Worth it though. The landscape contractor they matched me with - Brian Tran- was awesome. He had a trusted team and he was on site EVERY DAY. He didn't disappear and he worked right along with his team. He was pleasant and easy to work with. Plus, as a second generation landscape contractor he knew what he was doing. Completely appreciate the landscaping work done on my residence in December 2014. Susan V. has much experience and the landscaper I chose (Golden Sky Construction) did a beautiful job to my front and back yards - will not complain. I had major work done: new fence, new side gate, added a waterless fountain, added a swing, added 2 planter boxes, new no-drip irrigation system, beautiful flowers that finally blossomed and complement my yards beautifully. Til this day, I still contact Bill Tran to help with items in my yard. He is always responsive and provides what he can and provides referrals.
