I purchased a lot of trees from them, and they arrived extremely dry. I gave them plenty of water, but two of the trees died within a week. Now, all the trees have turned yellow. It's been two weeks, and I reached out to request a replacement because the issue was clearly due to how they were handled or stored before delivery. However, I've received no response. Ben said he would give us a steep discount in the fall and that the trees were just stressed from being transplanted. Ben stunk of pot when he arrive and his equipment didn't work. We paid for 8-10' trees, planting soil, fertilizer and installation. Trees were poor quality and 7 of the 28 died within a few weeks. Made several attempts to get the replaced but always got an excuse that he didn't have any to replace although he has several dads always running indicating he has them in stock. read more

Am continuing to add new pictures and information as we dig up these trees and see what a horrible job was done by Ben. No one with a basic knowledge of trees would do a job like this. Dug up more trees today. Root structures are tiny, lopsided, and cut way too short to facilitate tree life. Since my first review, Ben mesaged me asking me to remove it in exchange for a few 6ft replacement trees. This doesn't even begin to cover the cost of what was spent, not to mention the time to dig up and replace these. Out almost $1000. Awful! Beware! You get what you pay for. He planted 23 arborvitae's that all died, it seems to be a common theme on these reviews. They died because he didn't dig the holes deep enough (several fell over within the first week) he did not prepare the soil properly. I also hired him to DIG out a bunch of blackberry bushes and kill some weeds they all came back few months later because he cut corners! He just cut them out at the ground without digging the roots out like I hired him to do. This guy has no idea what he is doing...do not hire! read more

Ben installed the trees on 9/20/17 and by 11/1/17 all of them had died. At the time he installed the trees, we asked him what needs to be done and we were were told to just water them well. We watered regularly but, they fell over and died. We contacted Ben about the dead trees he said the elements killed them. Also, after the trees died, he said that we probably should have staked them and packed the soil more often. Extremely disappointing as we hired him to install the trees so we didn't have to. Would have given him less than a 1 star rating if it was an option. read more

Ben and his assistant planted 28 arborvitae a few months ago. He was very polite, though I was not satisfied with the job for the reasons I will outline below: My first concern came during planting actually. I asked Ben's assistant about planting depth and he responded that it doesn't really matter since the roots will "find their way." That was a bit of a red flag since all research shows this to be untrue. After the 28 trees were planted (shockingly quickly), I asked my neighbor how he felt about the job done (my neighbor has planted his own orchard, is very experienced with tree-planting and had been outside chatting with Ben while they were working). My neighbor told me he at first wasn't going to say anything, but since I asked they did not do it properly. He pointed out that many of the trees were buried at extremely shallow depth and he said they pretty much just tossed them in and didn't take much care with root contact, etc. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I did notice what my neighbor had said. I also noticed they were closer to the fence than I had originally requested in some parts, so they were not consistently aligned with the fence. I also noticed that one of the trees was just haphazardly put in a whole and that there was little root contact, the trees could easily be tipped over if touched. I mentioned my concerns about some of the trees to Ben, but he said they were find and that I could just build up with more dirt around the trees, which I did as advised. Within a month I noticed some of the trees browning severely. I understood this can be caused by root-shock so I just made sure to water them well but not overwater them. The browning continued until it was obvious that many of the trees (8-10) were dying or (as of now) already dead. These particular trees have almost no live branches. As some of the trees look perfectly fine and are very green (no specifical spots have dying trees, they are random), and they all received the same amount of watering, I can only imagine it is because of the way they were planted as my neighbor suggested. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if I lost 2/3 of the trees though we'll see. When I mentioned my concerns to Ben, he took no responsibility. At first he suggested I did not water them enough even though I told him I had watered them thoroughly. And then he suggested it was probably because of poor drainage... The Drainage is fine. My neighbor has a bunch of trees on the other side of the fence and his trees are flourishing. Also, some of these trees are fine, so the dying ones seems "random." In the end, I cannot recommend his services, specifically for tree planting. We are now down quite a bit of money and will have plenty of dead trees to get rid of. (Update) Only 6-7 trees out of 28 look to survive at this point. read more

We bought 40 Emerald Green privacy hedge trees from Ben in September of 2017. He brought them to our property piled on top of one another in a truck and a trailer. They looked beat-up. I mentioned this to him and he said thy would, "bounce back." He and his helper planted the trees in a hurry and quickly took my $1200. The trees haven't bounced back yet. When I contacted Ben he told me he doesn't warranty his trees. And that customers should expect at least 10%of the product to die-off. I am very disappointed with my experience. read more

I had this guy plant 5 nine foot Leyland Cypress trees 7 weeks ago and most have died or are dying. I had an arborist look them over and the trees were probably old and not planted correctly. The holes are too shallow, trees not staked, and no mulch. After weeks of chasing him down he agreed to replace the 9' trees with 7' trees by mid week since he has no more larger trees. I'm usually too cheap to hire someone for something I could do myself. My current yard takes a lot of work to maintain, and I was starting to break equipment because of some awkward angles and rough terrain. Ben helped out big time, he spent a few days and really leveled out some of the obstacles that made maintenance a chore. Ben is a down to earth guy, a hard worker, and an honest man. When the weather turned cold Ben came to me and suggested that he changed his weekly service to by-weekly to save expenses. I consider Ben a very responsible and honest person who is genuinely concerned about not only his clients quality of Landscaping but not doing work that is unnecessary and costing his clients more expenses. My husband and I purchased a large Bellingham property (.82 ac) in the Samish Highlands a year ago, and after trying other yard help we found Landscaper Ben who has been working with us since March of 2016. In addition to cutting the lawn he recently sprayed weeds, applied cloth and lots of mulch to areas that were much in need of this care. The result is that the much (not cheap but worth the expense) is easier to maintain and the mulch assists in keeping the plants moist. BUT the most important thing is that Ben communicates well and keeps me apprised of schedule changes. Ben is very reliable, I believe that we get real value for the work that he does. read more
