I came into this place and ordered the special pho, egg rolls, and a freshly squeezed Limeade. Definitely not the place for pho. The portions can be a little bit more generous, and the broth taste mediocre . I did like the egg rolls. It was crispy and tasty, but again on the small portion side. the most incredible meal second time consecutive days. Ms Young and her sister quick to recognize and remembered how I had my drink. I wanted to try more than one dish so they halved the Pho and the yellow pancake (the best crispy pancake ever) with salad and shrimp and pork. The the best of the lot, steamed vegetables with sauted chicken and shrimp with ginger was so flavorful and tge ginger was not fried into oblivion. it had the most flagrant ginger smell and taste I could not have hoped for any better. it was once again off tge menu and the combination was her choice.i am glad I cannot eat here everyday as I would not survive. no hesitation to give it a 5 Star rating for the food and 10 for the service. This is my second time visiting this establishment after many years. I was hungry for lunch and my best friends love this restaurant. When I pulled up to the parking lot I immediately remember eating at this restaurant once before. The ordering process was super easy and I ordered on the phone for take-out. This restaurant is not open for dine-in so I did take-out. The customer service was superb from when I placed an order to when I paid for my food. The employees were super nice. Now the food. I love Vietnamese food and I have pretty high standards for my Vietnamese dishes. I thought the temple rolls were not good. The tofu was too dry and hard. I have had better veggie summer rolls and I thought this one was one of the worst I have had. HOWEVER the pho saved this review from getting a 1/2 stars. The broth was very good and packed with flavor. I thought they did great with the packaging even with the rare beef slices. I have been here several times at the same e time each year. This is a popular place. They have a small parking lot in the front and back. It's near a busy intersection. The staff is welcoming. They do take out and dine in. They have many things that are great. I will highlight a few to tantalize your taste buds. The spring rolls or quail are a great start. The spring rolls are crispy. The quail is fresh and seasoned well. The number 109 and 108 are yummy and my go to. The portions are good and I frequently fill up before I get to try dessert. I have lived in Charlotte for over 40 years and have always heard of Lang Van, but never visited. Finally, in the past several months I have been twice, and it is such an authentically Vietnamese restaurant that I have forgotten everything else. It is a small place, and decorated with bamboo, flowers and screens so that you don't realize you are in Charlotte. The owner and her family are so welcoming and make suggestions about the food. My first visit my friend and I shared the shrimp spring rolls. Delicious and so fresh, our second course was the "pancake" Bang Xeo. A pancake with protein cooked inside and served with fresh green herbs, lettuce and sauce. Delicious. My second visit was with my Sister-in-law who had recently been to Vietnam. I wanted her to come and give me her impression. We had a curry dish and a noodle dish, as well as some spring rolls. I wish I could remember the names. After our dinner we were treated with some small sweet biscuits. Just a lovely, friendly place with super food and service. read more

You want real, authentic Vietnamese food? Complete with the scurrying around waitresses and their tough sounding boss hustling them and the customers? All very nice and bordering on chaotic, but just what you find in Vietnam, from street foods, restaurants and markets. And it is really good. Cannot help but be a fan for a first visit at lunch with friends. All of us raved at the food and loved kidding around with the hostess and wait staff. Prices very reasonable. If you don't know what it is...ask. If you want something but don't know how to order it...hit up the hostess and she will get it done for you. Customization, if you like, is OK. We thought next trip we will just eat appetizers. There are plenty to choose from ($3.25 to $14.95). Rice crepes and pancakes (really!) with pork, shrimp, even mint ($7.95 - 9.95). Salads (lotsa variations...you name it) at $7.95. Their showcase is their excellent beefy beef broth, so ordering Pho (pronounced fha, so you won't sound like an idiot) is a good choice. They come with different noodles and you get a side of fresh basil, jalapenos, bean sprouts and you can glug in some hot, hot sauce if you like. it is a meal...with or without appetizers. There is a seafood variety of Pho going by the name, Seafood Rice Noodle Soup. Crab, shrimp squid, pork...same game: good broth with lots of goodies in it. Not like mama makes. Everything else is listed as house specials so that is a lot of stir fry, noodles tossed with meat and veggies, and they also have a section of veggie things on the menu. Are you getting the impression that you can get whatever you want? The good answer is: Oh Yeah! I have not even dented the menu, but trust me that it is extensive. They even have Banh Mi, the Vietnamese version of French sandwiches that they learned from the French and then Vietnamesed them. Soft French bread, excellent pork. Almost like a Cuban sandwich. Of the many Pho places to visit in Charlotte, Im so glad I made it to Lang Van! I tried going once before but, it was closed for COVID to sit inside so we had to order take out! Luckily it was just as delicious as sitting in for a meal when they finally opened back up the dining room. The staff was very sweet and friendly and made the Pho experience memorable. As often as I come here, I can't believe I've never written a review. Probably because I'm too busy downing delicious Pho . I came here for the first time on a Friday in the fall in search of Charlotte's best Pho. And after kissing a few Pho frogs . I found my Pho-ever Prince Thanks to Yelp for the advice. When I first visited it was for lunch and the parking lot was packed. I knew right then that this was it. When I walked in, I was still greeted warmly and seated immediately. With very little hesitation, I ordered the Pho Tai. After 10 maybe 15 min a huge, piping-hot bowl of pho arrived. (Note: They only do one size of Pho and it's huge but trust me you'll want it all.) Before I even added a sprig of basil, a spritz of lemon , a slice of jalapeño or a bean sprout, I leaned in and took a spoonful of broth. It was heavenly, flavorful umami goodness. I grabbed my chopsticks and sampled the beef: it was tender and flavorful. The perfect melding of flavors left me wondering: did the beef flavor the broth or did the broth flavor the beef? (Chicken or the egg ) The noodles still had that perfect al dente texture. All of the condiments were super fresh. I added them all and then I ate until I couldn't eat anymore. I didn't want to waste even a drop of broth. That's how I fell in love with Lang Van. Afterwards... I ate Pho here everyday for a week. No exaggeration. It is legitimately it's good. Since our first encounter I've also had the tofu bun and both the shrimp and tofu summer rolls both of which are divine and the pho chay (tofu bun). Beware: the sauce that comes with the summer rolls is so delicious you could drink it. But alas, the pho is my first love. A healing serum for the soul. If I'm sick and won't eat anything else, I will always eat pho . But it's gotta be from here. All other Pho shall forever pale in comparison. If you're on the fence about this you shouldn't be. I came here to have my first meal in Charlotte because my friend recommended this place to me. When I came into the building, it was really nice to see that there were so many tables filled with people of different cultures and races; however, what comes with that is the fact it's not always the best indication that it's great food. There were some, but not many Asians in the restaurant. We ordered some fresh spring rolls and the jicama rolls. They were pretty standard, but not fully packed compared to what I'm used to. The Banh Xeo, though, was the highlight for me! Crispy, flavorful, and a good portion. The entrees we got were grilled pork chop, curry, and a bowl of pho. The grilled pork was good... but the fact they removed the bones is a CLEAR indication it's catered towards a more local population. Was it flavorful? Yes, but the portion for it was horrendous and it was mostly rice and veggies. The curry only had a few chunks and contents in it as well (tasted like Thai curry), and the pho broth had only a few pieces of meats and veggies (also why were there no mint or basil for the broth?) The broth for it was not mind blowing. What was disappointing, though, was that I found hair in my broth and I didn't finish the bowl due to that. I think the (manager?) came over and that it was hair from the beef tendon and then departed immediately. I didn't expect anything from it, but it was dismissed so quick that I wished it was handled better. Besides that one hiccup, the rest of the service was stupendous. Our waitress was great. Overall, if you want to try Vietnamese food with good service... I'd recommend this place. If you want amazing Vietnamese, there's plenty others you can go for that. read more

I'll start with the upfront disclosure: Vietnamese food is not my favorite Asian cuisine. I don't seek it out as often, I don't have as much exposure to the full variety of dishes or restaurants, and I'm probably comparing everything I eat to other Asian dishes and flavors I prefer. So, big grain of salt on this review if you're a Vietnamese connoisseur. Overall, this was a good experience and it was tasty and relatively cheap. I mean, compared to everything in the Uptown area. If this was within walking distance to Uptown, I'd go back. Probably a lot. But it's not. So this might be a 1x/year place for me. I personally ordered three appetizers, one soup, and four main entrees. I also accidentally ordered a sweet tea (which was SWEEEEEEEET and came out in a quart-sized pitcher) and purposefully ordered a frozen blended jackfruit drink. There were also 3 other main dishes and 2 other appetizers on the table, some of which I tried. Everything was good. Nothing was outstanding. Oh, wait. The service. The service was outstanding. Just like being in a long-lost aunty's kitchen (without the noise of being in a kitchen). Here are some of the highlights. The drinks were cool. I asked for water without ice. That came out in a special pitcher for me so that I could refill myself and none of the staff tried to refill me with ice. That was nice. That was really nice. The sweet tea was an accidental order and man was it sweet. It also came out in its own pitcher. So I didn't sleep that night from having downed a pitcher of sweet tea. I had hoped for a boba, bubble tea, or jelly smoothie (see my disclaimer above) but ended up with a jackfruit drink. It was frozen blended and tall. It was good. The coconut drink I tried to order first wasn't available (and apparently hadn't been for months). There were Buddha beers in Buddha shaped bottles and multiple wines on the table, too. Plus the GM/Aunty came by and had some drinks with us before we left. The wine glasses were small and cute but always came out super full. The DIY summer rolls were fun and the greens and herbs were super fresh. The meats, though, were a little overwhelming and I wished there was more lettuce and sauce. The pancake was new to me and fun, super glad I ordered that. Like a crispy dried egg. Different from any other Asian cuisines' pancakes so worth a try for sure. The corn soup was crazy hot when it came out. Crazy hot. Beware. The fried tofu was good but the onions with it was a bit odd. Yes, the pineapple fried rice comes in a pineapple. That's fun. But the rice flavor itself wasn't very strong and the dish definitely needed more egg. Nice that the shrimp tails were already pulled off. Huge plus for me. The coconut curries were a bit runny and didn't have enough vegetables. The lemon grass curry was super interesting--more like a paste than a curry--but didn't have any vegetable! The noodles dishes were ok, but felt unbalanced. I might try for additional veggie stir fry dishes but generally wasn't impressed with the underlying flavor. Lots of meat present, though, if that's your thing. We wanted to order dessert, but the check was brought out directly--along with a typical "please leave now" dish full of sweets. The shortbread cookies were a hit with half the table and the jin dui (sesame balls of fried mochi) was a hit with the other half. No one seemed to like both. Dinner ended up being under $50 pp for six people, with lots of alcohol and maybe four meals' worth of leftovers. Not bad. read more

I always get the beef pho when I feel like having a warm soup on a chilly day... or if I'm dieting They give you cilantro, basil, bean sprouts and jalapenos to put in your soup and adjust to your taste preference. The broth flavor is fantastic. I have also ordered their curry dishes. The flavor is good, but there is hardly any meat or even vegetables in it. I think I got 4 small pieces of sweet potato. This one, I was unsatisfied. The staff is over the top friendly. They remember you, who you usually come with and sometimes even what you like to order.
