    Chicken Lemongrass Curry w/ Rice
    Rose E.

I know this place has a cult-like following...but I've just never been into Vietnamese food. I have tried Vietnamese food a dozen times in the past, but I always thought the foods were a subtle version of the bolder, spicier Thai food (which I love!). Still, we decided to finally check out this Charlotte landmark restaurant... When we arrived at 5 pm, there was already a line! Still, we managed to get seated right away. As expected, the place was very modest and casual...a bit loud and kitschy? The menu was surprisingly extensive...pages and pages full! We started with the Yellow Pancake with Chicken. For our entrees, my husband ordered Chicken Lemongrass Curry, and I ordered Cary Tom Vermicelli w/ Shrimp & Tofu. Well, turned out I misordered...I meant to order this stir fry noodle dish, Vermicelli w/ Curry (?)...but what I ended up ordering was this soupy Curry bowl instead. *SIGH* Frankly, I was a bit overwhelmed with the menu with its many exotic titles...and guess I should have looked at it more carefully...or better yet, I should have pointed at the picture of the dish I wanted from Yelp! In any case, here's my honest opinion of the dishes. I liked the crispy texture of the pancake, but it was quite hard to eat this...as the chicken kept falling out. The flavor was good as well. Again, I just found it a bit awkward...as the items were hard to eat with the utensils. My husband liked it more than I did. My husband also thought the Chicken Lemongrass Curry was good, but wasn't blown over by it. I thought the curry bowl I misordered was good as well, but disappointing in its lack of green veggies. It was basically a Yellow on Yellow dish...and very soupy...basically a Curry Ramen, with the Vermicelli Noodle. Like my husband, I wasn't blown over by it. So...frankly, we both weren't too impressed with what we ordered. For some reason, we expected more...better (given its cult following)? Maybe we didn't order the best dishes...just don't know what to think. Then here's the other thing. The service was REALLY bad. Our waitress seemed to be in this mad rush the whole time, just running back and forth. She basically forgot to put in our order for at least 10-15 minutes (we had to repeat our order when she returned to our table to refresh her memory). She also forgot my husband's beer (we had to ask her THREE times!). Also, this waitress was probably half my age, and called me "Honey" ...while calling my husband "My Love" and "Daddy". WOW. I've never experienced an Asian waitress using such terms of endearments (I call it "terms of belittlements"...absolutely hate it!). I personally found it rude and inappropriate. I get that she meant no harm, and was just being flirty or whatever (so I didn't lash out), but I found her "terms" just rude and disrespectful. I'm old enough to be her mom...and my husband is certainly not her "Daddy" lol. I don't think I EVER got addressed as a "Honey" from another Asian waitress in my life...so it was a bit shocking. My husband and I managed to laugh it off, but we both found it odd and again, very inappropriate. ANYHOO, I'm glad we finally checked out this highly raved restaurant. While I think the foods were good, they didn't knock us over in any way. Also, while I expected super-good service (according to the reviews I've read), we got nothing close to it. Not only bad, but rude! Overall, I thought the foods tasted good...but quite lacking...in veggies, presentation, and even for its skimpy quantity for the price points. Also, again, the service was just not good...on several levels, as I've explained. This experience was just disappointing, to say the least. Maybe we hit the place on a wrong day...ordered the wrong item...got the wrong waitress??? We left feeling a bit puzzled by all the hoopla over this place. Who knows...maybe we'll give it another try in the future. For this first time experience, however, it was sub-standard. Sorry, but it was a 2-star experience for us both.

Came on a Fri night at 6PM and already a line out the door. Parking lot was full. We waited about 15 mins to get seated (only two of us). By the time we left, the line was twice as long and people were parked so tight it was hard to get out. We ordered the same items as before (#61 Stir Fry Vermicelli Noodles with Chicken Curry & Pineapple Pecan Chicken Special) and they were excellent again! They really need some local IPA's added to their beer menu. The staff really hustles to turn the tables!

The Good This restaurant was lauded by the Top Chef judges when they were in Charlotte filming the last season. We love Vietnamese food so we took an Uber to the restaurant from our hotel in Uptown Charlotte. $33 later we were disappointed The bad The pho had a watery broth The dish the waitress recommended (trust me) wasn't good. Broad noodles with shrimp, beef, chicken and vegetables. The summer roll was the best we've had so that should be in the good category The Uber back to the hotel was $27 Service was friendly Decor is old school with lots of Christmas lights

Visited Lang Van and the Vietnamese dishes were truly outstanding -- fresh, flavorful, and memorable. The only thing that gave me pause was the final bill. I should've asked for a detailed breakdown but they were so busy, as the total felt higher than expected for what we ordered. Also, parking can be a challenge during peak hour, so be mentally prepared for a wait or plan to arrive before peak time. Still, the food itself absolutely delivered.

This is a must-go in Charlotte. Very authentic Vietnamese food with a vast selection of dishes from vermicelli to rice to Pho and more. The service was amazing! People are so friendly, you can tell it's very community oriented with the way they treat their customers and talk to them like they've been long time friends -- they have a huge wall filled with cards from families. They move really fast so prepare to be slightly overwhelmed. They get you seated quickly, then they might try to rush you into getting apps for the table (or they might just recommend something / order it for you) which was fine because it was delicious lol. Very cute spot and feels like you're right at home!

I came here with my family for my birthday lunch! Small and cozy restaurant, the wait staff team was friendly. I loved my waitress she was attentive, knowledgeable, and funny. I came here originally after the Pho, but the vegetarian (#72) fresh rice noodles caught my attention. My family each tried a bite and said it was the best thing on the table. I also enjoyed the hot jasmine tea. We are definitely coming back!

This place was recommended as the best Vietnamese restaurant in Charlotte. We came on a Sunday afternoon and there was a pretty long line. The food was yummy but it wasn't the best pho I've ever had however, the curry was delicious and I will be going back to try more items.

Lang Van is always a good experience. Customer service is always phenomenal & the food is flavorful. Enjoyed my pho and fresh summer rolls. The restaurant is always clean and put together even during busy hours.

We were craving Asian food after being in the South for days and found this place on Yelp. By the time we got in for dinner, they were pretty busy but they still had some open tables so we got seated pretty quickly. We ordered spring rolls, banh crocs and Hu Tieu, which is supposed to be a noodle soup according to my husband, but it came out to be a stir fry dish. I liked the spring rolls but it felt like it was rolled in haste. The banh xeo was delicious! It was crispy and had a generous amount of pork and shrimp. The Hu Tieu was a bit too salty so that's my least favorite dish. The staff seemed to know most of the customers there and the customers who were there seemed to be regulars. It's pretty cool to know that this place has a lot of regulars because it means their service and food are consistent!

Holy ****. I kind of don't want to leave a review because this place is so good. I don't want others to find out about it. Lang Van is legit, if you know you know. And clearly from the number of people who are coming in and out a lot know. We (4 of us) went for dinner on a Sunday night around 6:30 and it was a bit of a wait but not too long, maybe 20 minutes. Once seated, we just let them tell us what to order which our friends who go a lot and are good friends with the owner said to do. Go with that recommendation, you will not be disappointed. Food was excellent all around we had plenty for everybody and it was delicious. I sent a text to my friend who is Vietnamese and she said " dude, that place is legit". It certainly is... We moved from Houston where the Vietnamese food was peak, and this is way up there It's a lively vibe super casual and friendly and everybody is just having the best time . I want to go back so soon I could eat there every day!

Another great meal. This place does not disappoint. Always a great and charming service. They make you feel welcomed. The food is simple and delicious. I have visited this restaurant several times and never had a bad experience. You need to try this place if you are in the area.

Saw this place with good ratings and wanted to check it out before leaving Charlotte. The ambiance and decor seemed very fitting for an authentic Vietnamese restaurant. They had a lot of options from different regions that you don't normally see at every restaurant. Our checked on us frequently and helped answer some questions. I had to the Vietnamese coffee because it's the best. We also shared the fresh spring rolls, beef pho and broken rice with pork chop and egg quiche. Spring rolls weren't the best, it barely had vermicelli noodles in it and mostly veggies. The sauce was mostly hoisin and didn't have that distinct peanut flavor that I'm used to. The pho was lacking a bit of depth in the broth although the noodles and meat were cooked well. I think what I enjoyed the most was the rice dish with pork chop. While I do think the food is authentic, I did find it lacking in some flavor on some of the dishes.

My non-Viet friend was hyping this place up so much so I came in with quite a bit of expectation. Upon walking in, I was greeted with a very homey and friendly vibe. The wall was fully decorated with holiday cards from everyone who came and loved the restaurants, which really spoke to how well loved the restaurant is. The staffs all greeted me warmly. I honestly couldnt decide on what to get but ended up with the classic, Pho, and a Goi Ga (chicken salad). And oh my, my expectations were met. The Goi Ga sauce was excellently seasoned and the chicken was tender. The Pho broth was insane, so close to the taste I had growing up in Vietnam. I highly highly recommend visiting this gem if you're ever in CLT!

No but the restaurant will customize dishes

Do they have Pad Thai here?

They are a Vietnamese restaurant, so they don't have Pad Thai. However, they do have a lot of noodle dishes that may tickle your fancy. You'll love it either way! Happy eats!!!

They added calamari which we love but unfortunately these were not the best. No flavor. Vietnamese coffee was strong and sweet. They got rid of their rice bowls and anything "created your own" the noodles bowls only come with cucumbers, sprouts, lettuce, noodles and protein of you want. The inside was larger than I thought as there is also seating in this kind of hidden back room. The lighting, for dinner time at least, was really moody and warm which offered an intimate but modern atmosphere. The service was friendly and quick! Our water was constantly refilled. My friends and I did family style and got the Dry-Fried String Beans, Coconut Shrimp, Ube Cheesecake, Mango Sticky Rice, Thai Chicken Wings, Takoyaki, Crab Rangoon Roll, Szechuan Spicy Wontons, and Basil Popcorn Chicken. I heard that the appetizers are better than the entrees here and that was so true. All of the appetizers were delicious! The Thai Chicken Wings were had this nice crunch despite being coated in this Thai sweet chili sauce. The Crab Rangoon Rolls tasted different than usual crab rangoons, possibly because the filling tasted more like stringy crab meat rather than chunks? Still really tasty especially when paired with the yum yum sauce. I loved the Basil Popcorn Chicken, especially when dipped in the yum yum sauce. You can really taste the five-spice powder. The pieces were a bit large for popcorn chicken, but I did not mind. I was shocked (in a good way) by the Szechuan Spicy Wontons. Extremely flavorful, especially when dipped in the sauce. As for the entrees (which all came with a bowl of rice), the Coconut Shrimp was weird. The batter was extremely thick and hard to bite into, which was unfortunate as the shrimp and coconut sauce itself were delicious. I did enjoy the Dry-Fried String Beans, though. It was in this nice garlicky sauce, plus the beans were sautéed very nicely. I thought that the deserts were okay. The Ube Cheesecake needed more cheesecake and the Mango Sticky Rice needed to be a bit sweeter for my preference. All in all, this is a solid restaurant! I was skeptical because of the terms "Asian fusion" but my worries washed away with the food. The appetizers are a must have here! I would rate this spot a 4.5/5 stars if I could.
