This place was busy. Good thing there's additional parking in the back. Came to grab a bite for lunch with a friend who was in the mood for Pho and it was the perfect spot. The food is authentic and their website even provides an article to give you insight on the couple that owns the place. The service was great and our drinks were refilled without having to even ask or look around. I had a taste for duck but it wasn't available so I went with stir fry (w/ Chicken) and it was yummy. Plus, it was enough to feed two people so I had yummy leftovers. Overall, I'll definitely be back and I recommend Lang Van if you have a hankering for Vietnamese food. The atmosphere when I walked in was incredible. I was in Charlotte for work and decided to try out some Vietnamese food. Coming from California -- I have a high standard to Vietnamese food -- as it is the "Mecca" of all Vietnamese/Asian cuisines. I ordered my favorite dish "Banh Cuon" & was recommended the "Mi Xao Kho Thap Cam". The Banh cuon was OKAY -- I wouldn't order it again though because it's not like the orginal Banh Cuon -- They didn't have meat inside of it, just the noodle by itself. The other dish "Mi Xao Kho Thap Cam" was pretty good. I also got the Vietnamese coffee -- I can't lie... I've tried Vietnamese food all over the nation and most of them are super watered down and not that good. The food is excellent and the people here are the best part of the experience. The menu is very busy but you can simplify it by understanding many of the options are the same and have the protein modified. This is my goto spot for Vietnamese food. The coffee is excellent and a crowd pleaser. Keep coming and they will have it ready the moment you walk through the door. The prices are on the higher side but this is normal in this economy and not the exception. You could easily spend $100 with three people, don't let the appearance of a small spot make you think there are in expensive deals. You get quality food with great service for a fair price. I have eaten only a handful of items on the menu but my favorite are the wide noodles with a smoky flavor. The chicken, pork, and shrimp have all been excellent. There is additional parking in the back and it is hard to get in, you need to head north and make a right as you can't get in from across the street. Beef slices weren't great. Meatballs were soft (a good thing). Missing some cuts of meat (tripe, brisket, etc). No lime, lemon, common! - score 7.5/10 Rice plate was good, average at worst. - score 7.5/10 Egg noodle dish was the worst of the order. - score 5/10 Steamed rice crepes was the best platter we had. Regardless, we were still served quickly and the servers were cheerful, friendly, and knowledgeable. - Pho dac biet (#26) / rare well cooked beef, tendon, meatball: This dish tasted decent. I'm used to pho filled with a ton of scallions, cilantro, etc. so to be honest it felt a little plain. However, I was able to adjust the flavoring on my own with the bean sprouts/mint/pepper/sauces. - Dau hu chien xa (#14) / tofu with lemongrass: I think it was a little bit undercooked because the texture was a bit hard when we ate it, but it was still tasty and we ate it all up quickly. read more

Their menu is extensive, there's something for everyone. I'll admit, I'm not sure if I'd say the food is the absolute best I've ever had, but it's pretty damn good and when you pair that with the ownership and experience of eating at the restaurant, Lang Van quickly becomes one of my go to places to dine at. This place gets PACKED and it's easy to see why! The staff speed around to check in on all the tables--I never lacked for water and plates were always cleared quickly. The restaurant workers were a great team together, making rounds on all the tables and being so nice to all the customers. My table had steamed rice crepes for an appetizer, which was so refreshing and definitely whet our appetites. I was very satisfied with my pho, which was the first one listed on the menu (with rare steak, meatball, and I think brisket). The broth was great, and just what I needed to rehydrate from a hot day. My friends enjoyed their meals too, but I think their consensus was that the grilled pork was tastier than the grilled chicken. They take a lot of care in serving food and running this restaurant here. BEWARE! SHADY BUSINESS! Double check your receipts!!! I came here based on the reviews. The food was decent. We ordered 5 entrees, so the total bill should have been around $85-90 plus tax (average $16-18 per entree). They gave us a bill of $115. I asked the waitress (looked like one of the owners) if the tip was included, to which she replied NO. I calculated our total bill with tax (9.25%) should have been around $98 without the tips. So the $115 didn't make sense. I went to the front desk to ask for the itemized receipt. The same waitress/owner that served us calculated my bill and total came out to $86 before tax. When I asked her how she got the $115 from, she said there is a different person that prepares the bill, so she wasn't sure. Another older lady came to the register and said she would clarify the bill. After she entered our entrees totals, she said she got the $114 after adding $10-15 in tips (a random amount, not based on any percentages). Since the bill and totals are hand-written here, you have to double check what total they put in. It looks like if you order higher number of entrees, they add extra $10-30 to the bill for any unsuspecting customers with the expectation that the customers won't verify. My fifth stop on my first day visiting Charlotte for the first time. What's a third Vietnamese got to do when they are told Lang Van is the place to go for authentic Vietnamese food. Especially when Cafe Sua Da and Banh Xeo are served. You know it's authentic when you see on the left side of the restaurant is relegated to wait staff eating their dinner and some wrapping their utensils in white linen napkins. Then you hear the typical "guest is here" translation in English. I say mot nguoi, flying solo tonight. First the drip coffee, then the plate of fresh vegetables for my Banh Xeo. It's like going home to my birthplace. Last time I was there was about 5 years ago when I visited my parents who retired there, probably the last time since my mom passed away. Anyway.... You get seated at a table that has embroidered map of Vietnam. Then the decor of bamboo and paintings... Very authentic. Staff are very friendly. I will come back when I visit Charlotte again. I have been wanting to try this place for months based on the great reviews I've heard. I don't eat Vietnamese food often so I went in with an open mind and no clue what I was going to order. On their specials list, there was a pineapple and pecan stir fry special. I've seen a lot of reviews of their dishes with pineapple so I did want to try something with pineapple included.
