I'm so incredibly grateful to Lap of Love for supporting us in every way possible during a…read moreheartbreaking time for me and my family. My 12 year old dog had been battling nasal cancer for 10 months, so I knew that the time I had left with him was winding down. I had been researching end of life care since the moment of his diagnosis, so I was familiar with Lap of Love's services through the recommendation of different vets, as well as from the what I researched online. What appealed to me the most about Lap of Love is that their services can take place in your home. If I were to have the option, I always knew that I would want my dog's end of life care and/or euthanasia to take place in the comfort of my home if possible. So as my dog's health continued to decline during that final week, I knew it was time to make the call. Luckily, I was able to book an appointment online in the middle of the night for a vet to come out the following afternoon. At that point, my dog had stopped eating and I could tell that his breathing patterns were starting to change. Although I felt it was time, I booked for a hospice visit just in case I woke up in the morning and he had signs of vitality. With that service, the vet would come out to our home, evaluate my dog and either provide further care or help us make the call that it was time. Either way, it took some pressure off knowing that I would have a professional evaluation or emergency care on deck no matter what. However, as the morning went on, it was clear that my dog's life was coming to an end. I took the day off to spend the rest of the day loving on my dog with my family. When Dr. Karen arrived, it was like we were blessed with an angel in human form. Dr. Karen was so gentle, kind, loving, patient and professional. She took time to read through my dog's lengthy medical history, reflect about my dog's life, looked at old pictures we shared with her and walk us through what to expect. It felt as though in that moment, she was a part of our family. She genuinely took the time to ensure that we felt comforted and supported. Everything went as smoothly and peacefully as possible. I was able to pray over my dog as he passed, pet him and hold his paws throughout the process. She took the care to tuck him into his sweet little basket with bedding after the process was over. He just looked like he was tucked in, peacefully sleeping. She also took a mold of his paws for us to keep and left us with some resources about grief. The next day she also followed up via email to offer additional support and share resources about support groups and grief counseling services that the business offered. I actually joined their free, virtual support group session two nights after my dog passed away and found some of the perspectives shared from the grief counselor to be helpful and comforting. Although, I likely will never have to go through this again if I had to I would do it all the same again with the support of Lap of Love. If you find yourself in this difficult position, I couldn't possibly give a stronger recommendation based on our perfect experience.
