Lapaloma completes me. I've been coming here since I was kid and I have to make the trip home a few times a year to enjoy a sopapilla. This place is really a hole in the wall restaurant. The decor won't impress you, but the service is friendly and fast. Don't expect healthy options, this is a place to come for yummy mexican comfort food. I should also mention it's really cheap. When you go, get a sopapilla. It's soft and flaky dough with several filling options. Sizes range from small, regular, large and extra large. The usual orders from my friends and family are the chicken and cheese, beef and cheese, or bean, beef and cheese. Their homemade salsa is pretty darn good too. If you happen to order a burrito or another menu option, you can always order one of the dessert sopapillas. Bottom line: When it comes to dining in this area, La Paloma is the only place I consider. read more

This is the place. Don't come for any of the seafood options, they just aren't good. You come here for the beef, bean and cheese sopapillas! They are amazing, the staff is always pleasant. Pricing is good for what you get since even just the regular sized sopapilla is two meals for under 8 bucks. The picante/salsa makes EVERYTHING taste 1000000x better, even the already amazing sopapillas. read more

If I could leave negative stars I would, I've done my time in the military eating MREs, and I would rather eat those. Not only was I completely overcharged for the food, there wasn't an ounce of seasoning. This place is a hidden gem in Ohio. Nowhere else in the world can you get this exact recipe. My son worked here for several years until he went away to college. The sopapillas are uniqe, fresh & taste so good you have to try it to believe it! The salsa is legendary. I have friends who have moved away and still ask about this place. They say they miss the food here as much as their family! Service is always fast & friendly. Only downfall is that they do not accept credit cards. I enjoy La Paloma every time I come into town to visit. Their food makes me happy and it brings back some wonderful memories of childhood. As I live on the west coast now, I can only dream of their Beef, Bean and Cheese Sopapillas and get them when I come to visit over the summer. Recently I had to return to Ohio because my best friend passed away. I took her daughter to La Paloma and now we are starting our own tradition. Thank you for running such an awesome restaurant. Be prepared to wait however, if you go during rush hour. It's no secret what amazing food they have. But don't get the seafood sopapilla... it's not as good. Stick to beef, bean and cheese. I travel all over North America and usually do not review but I have to here. I ordered the queso burrito. It was melted cheddar cheese on a bland beef and bean burrito. Chips and salsa are extra and the salsa comes out in a squeeze bottle. read more

Placed an order to go. Got home and realized the order was incorrect (just a regular beef and cheese instead of the chicken, extra cheese and jalapeño I paid for). Called immediately and offered to send (or show them when I made it in) pictures of my receipt, the box which stated the correct order and of the incorrect food, for either a refund or future comp order since I did not have time to drive 20 minutes each way and make it back in time for work. The guy who answered got a manager on the phone who stated I needed to bring back the incorrect sopapilla tonight or was out of luck. I explained I had to go to work and could bring it in a few days but that it was their mistake and not mine and I definitely shouldn't have to drive back out there same night to get the correct food that I had already paid for.....I enjoy the food and typically order from there 3-4 times a month (won't be anymore) and have never complained even though I often pay the extra for sour cream and don't get it. They acted like I was trying to get one over on them for a free sopapilla or something, how ridiculous! I can't believe this is how they treat a regular customer.....or anyone, for that matter, who tries to just get what they've paid for! It's not even about the $7 sopapilla, but it's the principle of them treating someone like they're stealing or trying to get something for free instead of being accountable and correcting their mistake......gross! read more

Having grown up in the Newark/Heath area, La Paloma was always one of the places we have always loved. When I mention sopapillas to my friends they always assume I'm talking about a thin pastry drizzled with honey. The sopapillas I talk about are so much more. These are filled with meat, chicken, seafood, whatever you desire. I prefer the beef and cheese myself which is a puff pastry dough filled with seasoned ground beef and cheddar cheese and folded to form a pocket then topped with lettuce and tomato and the family's signature salsa. The restaurant started many years ago as a strictly family business as they have added more restaurants, they now hire outside of the family but they have never lost sight of the values and impeccable quality that makes this a hometown favorite. I now live in Dublin but can be found making the hour long drive just to get a hometown sopapilla. read more

My situation is very similar to one posted below from 8/31/21. Ordered two orders of nachos with jalapeños (Along with other items). Both nachos came covered in beef. Most would see this as a plus, but I am vegetarian. We called when we got home with the order and spoke with Allison. She gave us a number to use for reference and told to give the number next time we ordered. Two weeks later, we made the order and we were told they were not going to honor the credit because the credit was not given by a manager and the employee didn't have the authority to credit. He then told me it was their mistake but in the end, my fault because I didn't ask for a manager when the initial call was made. After a heated discussion, he offered partial credit because "he can't be sure I wasn't stealing from them". It has nothing to do with the money. I have never had an interaction at a restaurant of any kind in my 40 years and the principal mattered much more than a paltry $10. They have been in our regular restaurant rotation (every couple of months) for 20 years. No longer. The Heath location along with the other locations might as well be non existent to our family. And btw, it isn't actually Mexican food. it is an amalgamation of a little Mexican and a lot American. It is about as Mexican as Taco Bell. read more

This is an updated review: First we ordered cheese-covered nachos a bean and cheese soapapilla, and a smothered burrito with sour cream TO GO. When we got home, the nachos were cold and the cheese looked like it had been added the week before - the bean and cheese soap became a BEEF BEAN AND CHEESE SOAP - And a smothered burrito which was supposed to be covered with green chili sauce had nothing on it and the inside was all beef and no beans. So... all three things we ordered were SO wrong the all had to be tossed in the trash. Yeah... after 40 some years this place has become NOT WHAT IT WAS! read more

This is an Ohio tradition. The family loves the sopapillas, but my favorite is the Buckeye a la mode.

It is apparently a popular place to eat among the local. The wait wasn't to bad, I must have annoyed the waiter as I wasn't ready to place my dinner order at the time I was seated. Looked at the menu and was delighted to see the original owners were from my home state, at which point I knew the food would be good. Beef- Bean Sopapilla was good. Waiter was lousy!!!! read more

The only thing people like from this place are their sopapillas. This is supposed to be a Mexican restaurant but there are only white people that work there and one Mexican who washes dishes. I got a chicken burrito and it had no flavor what so ever, all it is canned chicken and a few veggies. You don't even get free chips!! I would much rather go to a legit Mexican restaurant. read more

I've been visiting this place for years, I love Sopapillas. Most people think of a sopapilla as an air filled pastry covered in some honey, that isn't at all what a sopapilla to people in the Newark/Heath area. Think taco salad in a thin pastry. I usually order a "beef & cheese", this is a made to order pastry with lots of melted cheese and ground beef inside, topped with fresh lettuce and tomato and as much fresh salsa as your heart desires. If youre ready for dessert, try a fruit or "buckeye" sopapilla. The only reason I give 3 stars is because the service is often lacking, but people don't visit this place for the service...they want a sopapilla! read more

Was very disappointed...I have been hearing for years how amazing the food is and how it is an awesome place to go...I was repulsed. I got a chicken burrito and was not impressed at all. It looked and tasted like the chicken was canned chicken rolled into a tortilla and covered with shredded cheddar cheese. First we had started with the queso and chips...the queso was cold and had no flavor. The service wasn't even anything good. Needless to say, I will not be back. This isn't even "Americanized" Mexican food...I would rate Taco Bell higher...don't waste your time. read more

Not your typical Mexican food but that's what makes it so great. Can't go wrong with a beef and cheese sopapilla with green chili sauce. The green chili is the key. Make sure you have cash because credit is not accepted. They have an ATM just in case. If you're in the mood for desert, they have desert sopapilla's too. Have fun and enjoy. read more

Anyone who hasn't experienced a sopapilla as an entrée is severely missing out. And if you want the best La Paloma is the place to go. They have mastered the breading which is the key to a delicious sopapilla. I have been to knock-off places like Sopapilla Express and Baja Sopapilla, and they are decent, but the breading gives them away as an inferior product on the first bite. I highly recommend you get a sopapilla with rice in it but that's just personal preference. I have no idea about anything else on their menu because I would never fathom selecting anything else on the menu. One word of caution, they do not accept credit cards. It's obviously a terrible business decision but they have he desired product so you have to put up with it. read more
