Better than Taco Bell. That pretty much sums up my review, and says a whole lot in just a few words. I'm not sure how this has a three-star average. I'm being generous with two. It felt weird to come a chain when there are three or four local, authentic Latin American restaurants within easy walking distance. But I'd heard great things about Del Taco, and never been, and it was kind of on my side of town. So, I stopped in, hungry and excited to try a few of the things I'd heard were great. Clean inside and out, smallish like a Taco Bell or other fast food place. Fairly basic menu. Not as many interesting things as I remembered hearing about. But: carne asada burrito! Actually, Cali bacon burrito, with steak or chicken. I got the steak, in a meal. $14 for a decent amount of food. Comes with fries, which doesn't make sense at a place like this. Irrelevant and extraneous. They're fine, crinkle cut which isn't my favorite, but crispy and hot. Wish they had other side choices. The ketchup packets say "del ketchup," which is very mildly amusing. Speaking of mild, I tried their medium and hot sauces. Medium is "Del Scorcho," but it most certainly is not scorching. A whisper of heat, not much flavor otherwise. Meh. Hot is "Del Inferno," and is slightly hotter, but still not really spicy, and again with no other defining flavor. I tried the burrito without any sauce at first to see what it had on its own. Not much, turns out. Okay tortilla, tough steak, and: more fries? Didn't notice that on the menu, and they were soft and starchy and filled up half the burrito. I pulled them out. Oh, and the whole thing was barely lukewarm, just enough to slightly melt the cheese inside. And: not much flavor, in the meat or sauce or anything. I added lots of sauce, which didn't add much flavor. I ate most of what was left after the fries departed, but wow. Really unimpressive. The ice machine was broken; they did gladly and quickly get me some from behind the counter. Service was friendly and fast the whole time, the one high point. Another customer made a point to tell the manager that her staff had helped him out on a previous visit, and that they were good people. Takes a few more minutes than Taco Bell since they are doing a little more from scratch. It's a little more expensive than the Bell, but better. Relatively speaking. Another place that is overhyped by people who apparently grew up with it and have fond memories. I won't be back. read more

Everyday can be Taco Tuesday for me. I have been meaning to update my review. Last several visits have been really good. Inside, cleaner store, and good service. Food portions are good with tacos full. Definitely a solid location and staffing improvements. Great food !!! Great service every time , never disappoints , great deals , food for the whole family

I'll split this into two reviews, as I've gone twice in the last 48 hours. I'll preface it by stating that the key here is to not compare this restaurant to its main competitor, who shall remain nameless (bell sounds in the background). The service: My first visit was the night before last in the very late evening. My wife and I sat in the drive-through, waiting for an extended period of time as we stared at the one car at the window. After upwards of 5 minutes, I called out, "Hello?" to the 2-way speaker, much to the wife's disagreement. She knew that I knew that the attendant knew we were there. I playfully did it as a way to remind the person that they should have at least greeted us with something like, "Welcome to Del Taco. Please take a moment to look over the menu and I'll be with you in a moment." Note: Acknowledge your customer's presence and don't keep them guessing. After another 20 seconds, a voice replied, "I'll be with you in a minute". She didn't sound rude, but it wasn't entirely welcoming either. After a few additional minutes, she apologized and took our order. It seemed that there were only two people working there, probably as a result of the difficulty of finding people to work fast food these days. I guess that's why we had to wait for so long. The food: We ordered two beef tacos and two tamales (being my favorite Mexican dish - I was surprised to find them available at a fast food restaurant) with cheese and chili sauce. I didn't care for the taco at all. The tortilla felt a bit moist and a tad rubbery, the meat's taste, temperature and texture were subpar and it had way too much cheese (like that "nameless" restaurant that stacks way too much cheese on their signature chili). The cheese was finely shredded, but the taste just wasn't there either. The tamale, though I expected little with it not being authentic (tamales take dedicated time to make - over a day) was really disappointing. Again, too much cheese and the meat sauce wasn't very good at all. I'll have to give it another shot and order them without any sauce next time. I concluded that I wouldn't drive that distance again, at least not for those food items. Today's visit: I drove through in the early afternoon and still waited a little longer than I felt necessary, but I was expecting it. When I got to the window, there was only one person in sight. She was a very pleasant young lady named Dionna(?) who had immediately greeted me when I pulled up and said she'd be with me shortly. This time, as per my son's suggestion, I ordered the Grilled Chicken taco. OMG - I thought I was at a different restaurant! The tortilla tasted better, it had less cheese (which tasted the same), but the chicken was amazing! I added mild sauce after the first bite, but felt it was better without it and ate it as presented. I also had a vanilla shake, which was another winner (imho). In fact, I'd put it against the shakes of many fast food joints that specialize in frozen dairy. It was of great density; a bit harder to pull out and rich, but in subtle fashion, which I liken to the shakes and malts of my teen years (the 80s). The only downside was the straw, a bit TOO large in circumference, making it even harder to pull through comfortably. If you've ever taken a pulmonary test, you know the difficulty of passing air through larger holes. Still, that wasn't enough to undo the great taste. I will return to try the hamburger at some point, in addition to a tamale without sauce (they also offer red & green sauce), as long as they're in season (I believe it's a promotional item). I will also enjoy a few more of the chicken tacos, which in my opinion is the real selling point. I give them three stars as an average between "could've been better" and "good", but five stars for Dionna. read more

I happen to be in the area so I decided to try this place out. I ordered 2 bean burritos & 2 shrimp tacos. I was pleasantly surprised that the bean burritos were very good. I decided to get sour cream on the side and I tried all of the sauces. Medium was my fav. The shrimp tacos were also good. The lady at the drive thru window was so nice and helpful. When I told her this was my first time trying the place she said I picked 2 good options and her coworker came to agree. They were nice! As a lover of Taco Bell I was curious how it would compare to Del Taco. I ordered door dash so everything wasn't quiet as fresh but I was happy overall and the price was right. Iced Coffee (Cafe de olla)- I'm a bit of a coffee snob and I would order this one again. Deff better than McDonalds or Taco Bell iced coffee, just a touch of flavor but not overpowering. Real strawberry Sprite - it was good, reminded me of a Shirley Temple. The straws are very wide tho like smoothly straws and the strawberries were getting stuck which was a bit annoying. Refreshing but nothing to write home about. Regular size Queso & chips - thought it was on the smaller side considering they make an even smaller snack size. I am a lover of Queso and this one was creamy with added flavors and would deff order again. Tortilla chips were crunchy and plain. Snack Taco - basically the same thing as Taco Bell's hard taco, with a slightly different meat flavor/texture Snack Queso quesadilla- this was the only thing I didn't enjoy. It was basically a soft taco with melted cheddar cheese and another soft taco stacked on top, and then folded in half. It was too much tortilla and not really queso to be found. Would be better with just one tortilla. Crispy chicken taco with ranch - reminded me of a Wendy's snack wrap or Taco Bell's cantina crispy chicken taco. Didn't realize it but we went there on opening day! Parking lot and drive through was packed so we parked in the lot next door. Menu is huge and includes hamburgers and French fries to name a view as well as the huge line of Mexican! Our meal was delicious and excited to return for more! I took a detour home and passed this newish spot so I decided to grab a snack! Online it showed that they are open until 2 am and it was a little before 11 so I knew they weren't about to close. I had no idea a Del Taco opened up around here and have never been to one anywhere so I was excited to try it. There was only one car in the drive through so it seemed as though I'd be in and out! I sat at the ordering window for about 5 mins, wasn't sure if anyone was working. Finally I was asked for my order. I wanted a strawberry shake- out of strawberries. I got chocolate instead. I also ordered a bean, cheese and rice roller. Pulled up to the last window to pay, and got the dirtiest look from the cashier as they took my card. I'm talking a pissed off glare. A few mins later they hand me my bag and mumble for me to have a good one without asking if I need any sauce or napkins or anything else. Window shut with me having very diminished hopes for this place. Not a fan of the milkshake. It tasted like if you took a bowl of the most generic chocolate ice cream and let it slightly melt. The burrito wasn't tasty either. It was so dry, no cheese that I could see or taste, bland rice. That sauce I wasn't allowed to ask for could have really saved it. This was a pleasant experience. I stopped there while the superbowl was about to start so there was literally only two other customers. I ordered a drink and a taco salad, minus guacamole, cheese & sour cream. They gave me a good bit of meat and a few tortilla chips in the salad. I can say this was what the average taco salad tastes like when you go anywhere. I was satisfied with the service and the food. The place was also, very clean, (I ate inside). When the drive-thru wasn't busy there was someone cleaning the tables. Let me just say--I appreciate the cleanliness. This seems to be a MAJOR problem with fast foods nowadays. Being from SoCal I grew up on Del Taco, and I am super excited that there is one by me here. I come here occasionally and every single time I have amazing service, everyone is so polite and the food comes out fast and hot. I have never had a bad experience with the folks that work there and let me tell you, it is wayyyyy better than any other fast food joint in the area. I drive 15 minutes to get home and the food is still hot by the time I eat it. The health department needs to come up in here. My son had to use the bathroom he said is was human waste smeared all over the male stall. So I took him to the ladies bathroom. There is a lot online about the controversy over which is best, Taco Bell vs Del Taco. I grew up on Zantigo here in Columbus Ohio which lost its place in the Mexican fast food race to Taco Bell. Zantigo was better than the Bell IMHO and now we have Del Taco making an appearance in Ohio. On my first visit - Customer service 10/10, personable, helped explain the menu and options, helped with ordering. Del Crunchtada, comparable to a tostado at the Bell. Super crunchy corn shell, really held up to the toppings, house made beans were awesome. Point - Del Tacos, had the Beer Battered Fish Taco, and the Crispy Chicken Taco Habanero. Flavor were amazing, fish was a thick portion of white fish, both very good! Queso Loaded Nachos with beef added, yummy. Loved the queso topping, flavorful beans, and chili verde salsa. Chocolate shakes are good too. Will be back to try their Epic Burritos and fresh guacamole. PS they have a Beyond menu for our plant based diners. Enjoy!! read more

Having been to the Circleville and Bellfontaine location here in Ohio, along with countless others in California, Arizona and Texas, this is by far the dirtiest Del Taco in the nation in our opinion. No clean tables, trash on the floor, the food prep area is a joke. Employees slipping on all the food on the floor, one listening to ear buds and not able to hear customers asking him questions 2 feet away. Never seen this place packed. I've went been just me to five cars and they always make you pull up and wait then your order still not right.

This is my second time at this location within 8 months. I don't know the menu that well. I ordered the epic guacamole burrito and the briar tacos. The drive thru guy had a little attitude and told me to go the window. No please or No thank you. He also did not give me the total. Got to the window and he told me the price and told me to park farther down the drive thru. I ask for my receipt and he had a attitude and told me he will bring it out with the food. I am not a mind reader, but usually when you pay for something you get a receipt. I know you are limited to who you can hire for fast food, but I think he shouldn't be in customer service with a attitude. He needs to drop the attitude or find something else because clearly he doesn't have people skills. Again, you are limited to jobs when you got tattoos on your face. If I could have put a no star I would have. Second time visiting. Drive thru line not as long but we still waited long to have order taken. Out of numerous items including-shakes (were out 1st visit too); nachos, and several others that I don't recall. Place order but given incorrect order at window. Actually had to drive back. Dining room closed but young employee let me in anyway. Told manager that whole order was incorrect. Other manager came out and was angry at young employee letting me in. (Way too many employees lounging in closed dining area for drive thru to be soooooo slow.) Two managers seemed relieved to know that they found "9 taco order". I asked to have food remade. Angry manager remakes half of order. At that point I asked for my money back, which other manager does. Angry manager says he didn't see the rest of the order on the receipt. He grabs the half order and throws it out. I told sensible manager that I hope they can get things together. He apologized as did the young employee who let me in the door. Had he not let me in, I would've been in a ten car long drive-thru line. Also need to clean prep area. When I tried to do survey, error message came up saying the code had already been used. This place is like a gourmet Taco Bell that is less expensive.. I used to live in southern CA and go here all the time. Now that Del Taco is in Columbus it is one of the hidden eatery gems here. Wait was looong for the drive thru (30 minutes) but they had a young lady give you a menu when you turned into drive and then when you drove closer another young lady went to each car to get order using ipad. Order ready and hot when i pulled up. They recently opened and everybody has been coming thru. Definitely going back to try more foodstuffs. I got this app just to share my experience with this place. I used to go to Del taco back in California when I was a kid so I was excited to learn that they opened a restaurant in Ohio, but I was quickly disappointed. The first time I went to this location the food was good but they got most of the order wrong, which is fine since I have a big family and it can be confusing. However, the second time I went here was probably one of the worst experiences I've had regarding fast food. The staff here is a joke. They're extremely slow and rude. My mom and I waited an hour for cold food that wasn't even what we ordered. But the worst experience of all was when they started talking about us right in front of us like we weren't even there.
