Beware of a large icy patch of snow on the front doorstep. I almost slipped on it and fell. I decided to get a grilled cheese here. The server was very sour. I have tried the matcha latte, the latte, hot chocolate and chai latte. They were all very good. I also find the space cozy with good service. The sandwiches are simple but good. Coffee made with love! This is a sweet find in the plateau, on quaint Laurier. I was happy to get a REAL (espresso-based) coffee here, rich and beautiful, and made with locally roasted St-Henri beans. It looks deceptively small from the street but there's definitely decent seating inside. Great treats to go with your coffee, too. I saw some amazing salads and sandwiches happening at other tables, which I'd be up for inhaling. Kid-friendly and decent art on the walls. I'm getting my Sunday-morning-coffee-and-a-stroll fixins here from now on. read more

I really like this spot! It's cute and cozy and seriously who doesn't need a grillcheese every once in a while. Wifi is fairly reliable-it's just the city network. Clean and bright. Pretty good staff. Very bilingual. There is a surprising amount of space considering how small the square footage is. Having said that though, I'm sure you could easily run into a situation in which you have no place to sit. Just take it to go and head to the park. I'm giving four stars instead if five for totally picky things like a restroom crowded with boxes and cleaning supplies, and the fact that they really need to hang some art up in the back. Or mirrors. That space is so claustrophobic... Also, they should serve toast. There is a whole ARTISANAL TOAST revolution, I think these guys could pretty easily serve the butter and jam variety. I mean, toast is literally grillcheese minus the cheese. Bur other than those picky things, it's great! Would recommend grabbing a couple of sandwiches to take for a picnic once the weather shapes up. read more

I accidentally discovered this place while wandering around on Laurier looking for a cozy spot to grab a bite , a coffee and do some work. It's not huge inside but they make the most of their space and have some cozy seating available. They serve a variety of grilled cheese and coffees. I had their four cheese grilled cheese and it was magical , so tasty and great texture it really hit the spot, also really a nice sized portion. I also had their cappuccino with almond milk , it was silky and tasty , really nice coffee flavour. the service was friendly and welcoming As well. the prices weren't dirt cheap but not crazy either , on par with the other cafes in the area. I'm definitely coming back here to sample more of their coffees and grilled cheese ! read more

I paid 15 dollars for a combo that came with 1) a date and chèvre "grilled cheese" (i.e. a pre-made panini made on white bread in which i found maybe two dates at most), 2) a cold cucumber and avocado soup that "tasted like dirty dishwater" as one reviewer on urbanspoon so eloquently put it, and 3) an iced tea that was adequate but was really just a cold steeped tea (not much can really go wrong here). This establishment basically uses indie culture as a gimmick (small shop, hip staff, mason jars, "artisan/organic" menu items, etc) but barely has the quality of a generic coffee shop and is expensive to boot. read more

This is essentially a grilled cheese spot with one exciting option: rabbit confit on your grilled cheese or salad. I'd been looking forward to trying it out on a quiet afternoon because every time I walk by there is a huge line up. Well, I think the line up probably just speaks to the fact that the service is super slow. We waited almost twenty minutes for our grilled cheeses, served with a simple green salad (yummy balsamic dressing and some flax seeds on top for crunch) and/or gazpacho (very tinny flavour... otherwise forgettable). They forgot to put the onions on our sandwiches, and when we mentioned it they offered to add them but also made it sound not-worth-it: "They're just some white onions." Why not offer something amazing and delicious like caramelized onions? Would have paired perfectly with my aged cheddar and bacon grilled cheese. No options for different breads.... It's pretty weird that it took so long. There were only two people in line in front of us. I have one more major beef. They have the option to add an egg to your grilled cheese, which we asked for on one of our sandwiches (emmental and ham and onion, which was also forgotten, but yummy regardless) and were told they had no eggs that day. This is a huge pet peeve of mine. The place has such a tiny menu, and is literally a 1 minute walk from a grocery store. Go get eggs. You saw when you came in to start your shift that you were low on eggs... Don't wait for the rush to not be able to run out. Overall... it's a decent grilled cheese and salad, but for $30+ for two people it was kind of lame. Cute concept. Try harder guys. read more

A friend was raving about the coffee at Lapin so I ventured out into the strange snowy Montreal afternoon today to sample their wares. After having read Judd's review I felt compelled to write as he mentioned finding it strange that they used coffee from Colorado. Indeed that IS odd! Well, Lapin Presse now uses (exclusively, from the look of it) local Saint Henri coffee in-house and they sell it by the pound as well. It is a smooth and mellow roast - in both the caffeinated and decaff varieties. I also sampled a warm grilled buttery banana bread full of walnuts and raisins that was scrumptious. And although I went for the coffee my friend recommended the Gruyere & Onion as well as the Bacon & Cheddar grilled cheese sandwiches. To be honest I find ordering a grilled cheese (unless on the road when you can't make your own) bizarre unless it's a truly special kind of bread or cheese as they are so easy to make at home. If coffee or tea isn't your thing, they also had a selection of Fentimore's Botanically Brewed Soda's ("Dandelion & Burdock" looked strangely enticing and a hot apple cider that sounded like a remedy for the April-and-its-snowing-blues. The only downside I could see would be a feeling of claustrophobia that might set in if the cafe was packed...it's THAT cozy a space. But on a quiet day with only a few people inside working away on their computers, it was just right. read more

Admittedly, my French is quite bad, but as far as I can tell, Lapin Presse seems to have nothing to do with rabbits or newspapers, but rather grilled cheese (hence the "grillcheeserie" tag line), coffee and hipsters. And it delivers on all three accounts. The grilled cheeses are creative and super tasty, and much less oily than others I have had in what seems to be the city of grilled cheese. They have a few other things to go with your grilled cheese, like a soup of the day and some greens, all equally good. The coffee is roasted by Novo of Denver, Colorado - which seems strange given the proliferation of high quality local and Canadian roasters (Saint Henri, Cafe Rico). The stuff is good even if high on the carbon footprint calculator (but hey, all coffee is)...and they know what to do with it. And it is always nice to be in the presence of hipsters. Also predictably, the space is really well designed and the music they play quite tasteful. The quarters are quite tight and might make for a cozy stay in winter, but in summer it feels cramped and hot. But the positive on that regard is that it feels satisfyingly busy with just a few people in the place. read more

Enjoyed a great little stop here on our last morning in Montreal - my gal gave top marks to her mocha. By this point I had given up on the search for 3.0 coffee and decided to just go with the flow, so my americano was quite tasty. They had one very tasty breakfast bar sort of thing that we enjoyed with it all. Did not try the sandwiches - perhaps next time! Grilled cheese sandwiches are def a thing in Montreal - I bet they are very satisfying in the winter! Seating is very cozy, but effective. I am lucky to be living close to this lovely cafe. I come here pretty often to work or read or just to enjoy a latte with a friend. So, what I like about Lapin Pressé : - The friendly staff ^_____^ - The delicious (and cheap) salads. - Good soy lattes made of Godshot. - The "café de quartier" ambiance. - They are using local coffee beans, from St-Henri. - And, there's "un je ne sais quoi" that makes me feel happy there! ;) - Free wi-fi by "ilesansfil" What I like less : - The espresso is not always "prefect", but still, pretty good. - It is tiny in there so you won't find a seat all the time... :( See you sooooon Lapin Pressé!!!! read more

Grilled cheese was average and expensive, coffee was tart and sour. The person making the grilled cheeses was also eating the food at the same time, which was not very appetizing nor sanitary. So if you enjoy huddling into tiny, crammed spaces to drink below average coffee at above average prices because it's the cool thing to do, this is your place. read more

Overrated & bland. I've been here 3x over the last 5 years. I'm left with the same feeling each time: overpriced mediocrity. The carrot squash soup tasted like fresh water with some pepper. Standard hipster cafe where they take their caffeinated beverages seriously. This place doesn't have a ton of space inside, but don't worry, it's close to Parc Laurier, so you can take your treats to the park with you. Generally good latte's, however, not the taste was not as good as most cafe's of this caliber (and price). The milk was a little burnt, and the espresso just didn't taste as fresh. Definitely better than starbucks though. Staff were generally friendly. Looks like they do their own cold brew in summer, but were out on my visit. read more

LP does a brisk take-out coffee business for passers-by en route to Laurier park. But their small indoor seating area is one of my favourite places to work. Good music, hipster watching, warm staff. Plaid-shirted, bearded, amiable owner. Coffee is very good, though the slightest of notches below Le Couteau, Pikolo, Myriade II. Occasional (though welcome) smell of strong cheese from the grilled cheese side of the operation. read more

Comfortable and cute cafe on a lovely street! I had an espresso and an Americano (I know). The espresso was creamy and smooth; the Americano similarly pleasant though slightly too diluted. Also had a grilled cheese with cheddar, onion, and a nice soft egg. While I understand you could make this at home, I'm on vacation and it was a great simple breakfast, not too greasy and on crisply pressed bread. I'm a fan. read more

Best latte I've ever tasted. Grilled cheese are delicious, but everything is a bit pricey.

The staff seems cool, the place is nice, but 8.50$ for two slices of cheap bread filled with a microscopic portion of cheese and bacon, that's what I call a rip off. I live in this area, I know that price are generally higher than elsewhere, but damn, I really felt some pain in my butt when I ate that grilled-cheese!
