We have been here many times. So we decided to go for Valentines Day last night. When I made the reservation, it said there would be a Special menu, but didn't say what it would be. And certainly not these rediculous prices. When I opened the menu I was literally in tears. $70 for dinner! Really? I Never get dessert! And adding a salad... that doesn't cost much. And certainly not Double the cost of normal. On top of it.. I've been dieting and nothing was diet friendly. I felt the portion was very small and slightly under cooked. Because it came with dessert I ordered my favorite.. Creme Brule. It was about 7:00 pm and they were already sold out! That was just the "Icing on the Cake"! This put a Bad Taste in my Mouth. We came here after a ferry ride from SF to celebrate a birthday 5 months ago. The portion sizes were great and the shrimps were huge! The view of the water from our table also was an icing on the cake. Service was a bit slow in the beginning, but that improved. I asked the waiter about gluten free options, and requested he check with the chef to confirm. I was only considering seafood, so the Scampi and Salmon were my options. The oysters were fresh, and the flavors were good for our dishes. One person did not like the homemade ravioli (not pictured) but everyone else liked their dishes. The service was great! We had a party of about 15 including 3 children. We were in a nice room with a beautiful view. The calamari was good as were the crab cakes. I had prime rib which I will not order again. It was a little dry and not very flavorful. The sides were good and everyone else liked what they ordered. Such as the salad and the lobster roll. Came here for dinner with some friends and the view at this restaurant is beautiful, especially when the sun is setting. Service here was pretty good, although it seemed like our server was really pushing us to order dessert even though we were pretty full. I would say that the selection at this restaurant is nice, but I wish the dishes had more variety. It seemed like a lot of the dishes came with the same vegetable and starch just different protein. Their alcohol selection is pretty good. We ordered the Marina Lemon Drop and the Melon Cosmo. The lemon drop had a good balance of sweet and sour and it had a nice presentation. The melon cosmo was also delicious and wasn't a strong liquor taste which is nice. The Marina Seafood Soup reminded me of a cioppino since it had clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, calamari and fish in a lobster broth. What was interesting about this dish was that it had angel hair pasta in the soup. I would say that it was overall delicious, but the angel hair pasta definitely fills you up fast. The lamb shank was pretty good; however it wasn't "falling off" the bone like others I've had so it was difficult to really eat and cut into pieces. However, overall it had a nice presentation and a good balance of the vegetables/starch. The salmon was nicely cooked on the medium side and the mango pico sauce was a nice added touch to it. It made it have a really nice added fresh flavor to the fish. Nice place to eat with a good selection of italian food. Would come again to try out more of their food. read more

I have picked Lara's restaurant for my guests coming from Japan & they enjoyed the dinner. The waiter was able to arrange a good seating looking out at the beautiful sunset view. We ordered clam chowder & calamari appetizers soup was served hot & calamari tasted good with dipping sauce. We had Lamb Shank, Steak , Salmon & chicken & My Salmon was served at a perfect temperature so it tasted really good. My partner's steak was flavorful too. First time here. Came in on a week night about an hour before closing. A good amount of people were dining. We were greeted and seated right away. The server was very nice and took our drink orders right away and brought us bread which was fresh and good. My husband had an old fashioned it was good and strong. I don't remember the name of my drink but it was good. I had the pork chop with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The mashed potatoes and veggies were well seasoned. The pork chop was very good but could have used a little more seasoning. My husband had a chicken sandwich with fries. I tried it and it was good and he was happy with his selection. My 1st contact with this restaurant was positive. Lupita answered the phone and booked me a great table with no problem whatsoever. It is a wonderful place to discover. And completely by accident. I believe this is one of the great treasures of the area. A world of fine dining and wonderful staff. Before we went, I took the opportunity to read the menu online, before we even left the house. That way I was able to make suggestions from the minute we got there to my wife about what we should order. It was a great YELP assit. We went on a Monday and sadly they only have live music, a piano player, Wednesday through Sunday. We will have to come back for that again soon. As we arrived at this beautiful Cape Cod style architecture building sitting on the water we found plenty of parking on their property. The outside and entry way was very inviting and there is some outdoor seating available on nice days. I noticed they also have a handicapped ramp which I thought was very clever. This place looked very very nice from the outside and I was happy to see it was repeated inside. My wife and I entered and checked with the receptionist and found our table was ready and waiting for us. We were escorted to our table, and as we went in we noticed that it was nicely decorated, clean, bright, and lots of windows to enjoy this magnificent view sitting on the yacht Harbor. If you arrive early there's a wonderful bar off to the left with a fireplace and Harbor views and you can have a cocktail while you wait for your table. I noticed some people were actually dining in the bar so that is an option as well. When we got to our table we noticed that most of the tables are along the wall in front of big picture windows so you can look out over the boats in the Bay and enjoy all of nature sprawled in front of you. Our server Nicole was very cheerful From beginning to end, pleasant and came right over to our table and made sure we were comfortable and had everything that we needed right away from menus to water to ordering our 1st beverage.. I ordered for my wife and myself, and to start, we got the calamari which was deep fried and the clam chowder. They start with a board that has homemade French bread on it that was so delicious and it comes hot with Olive oil and things to dip your bread into or spread butter with it was delicious. Right away when I tasted the calamari I noticed that it was extremely tender and very fresh. It had all the ear marks of being cooked by somebody who knew how to cook it and to leave it's tender original flavor intact. And the clam chowder was some of the best clam chowder we've ever had. It was done properly and carefully with just the right amounts of seasonings chunky bits of clam, nice pieces of potsto with sauteed onions and a roux that was one to remember. It was so delicious with that bread baked fresh in house. Ms Lara Is very active and hands on with everything that happens there and we had an opportunity to talk to it at our table. What a gracious owner she is. Next hammer on trace. My wife had the prawns with fettuccine, which I found out that all the pasta is made fresh in house. And it was al dente, and I have to say perfectly al dente. The flavors that came from that dish dish we're gonna stick in my memory for some time it was so incredibly tasty. I ordered the lasagna for myself. It came out like a masterpiece on that plate it was a huge portion of some of the most delicious lasagna I've ever had. When I eat something and I can taste that many layers of flavor as I'm chewing my food, I know that a true chef has performed magic in the kitchen. Then came the dessert wagon. Oh my gosh. We barely had room for it. We ordered the tiramisou which is light and delicious and creamy. And the other dessert was the caramel turtle cheesecake. We truly discovered fine epicurean sociability while going through each of the layers of our meal. Peeling back through all the flavors, textures, and delights that were served to us. They pride themselves on having almost everything made in that restaurant being homemade. And it tastes like it. We will tell everyone we know about this beautiful place that we've discovered. Once only, will never come again! 1) Make sure you check the bills. We found few mistakes on the bill. Menu said 6 pax/18%, but we didn't have 6 people, they charged us 18% mandatory tips?! They even do tax after tips?! Anyway, we had three different bills in a night ‍ 2) This is not a fine dining place. We came for a family birthday, but the kids just running around, screaming, made noise from the utensils and their phones. Errggg~ We weren't expecting that in a "fine dining" restaurant. 3) tbh Foods are not bad, just not really worthy for the price, that's not a main issue because of the view. But, for the dessert, we ordered two tiramisu, they gave us one & we thought that was a mistake, we saw the bill, they charged us two tiramisu and $10 extra. We asked and they said they put the ladyfingers around the tiramisu, put candles and wrote "happy birthday ", which is a $10 decoration. What?! Ladyfingers as a decor and make it look bigger so it considers as two tiramisu??? They didn't tell us about the decor and the $10 charge, which is not reasonable and kept arguing with us about that is two pieces of tiramisu Very dishonest! 4) Environmentally, it's excellent. It seems like an older living building by the bay & converted into a restaurant. Good view, good piano music by a gentleman. 5) Service?! Alright for the gentleman who took our orders. No one ever come to refill water or ask if everything is ok. Manager is alright too but after we voiced out all the tricky charges on the tips, "decor", wrong orders, her attitude changed completely! The service I will say is really great. If it is your bday definitely make sure you get happy bday sung to you by Lara herself. That part was outstanding!! I appreciate that type of customer service 100%. I think it would also be a great spot for a private party also. So I have nothing bad to say at all about that part. Food wise there are not really too many options for food allergies or gluten free options or dairy free options. I wish the food was a little better for the price. It's lightweight overpriced decent Italian food. It is a great location. It's good. It's not the best thing ever. We came to Lara's for the first time, back in Feb, for a Valentine's Day dinner. Situated in Marina Bay, the area provided a nice, beautiful walking trail before and after dinner. There is also a private lot next to the establishment, so parking is not an issue. Upon arriving, we noticed a very prominent signage at the front entrance, stating that they require proof of vaccination. Ironically however, the lady in front of us let the hostess know that she forgot to bring her proof of vaccination, and was let in anyways. And then the hostess proceeded to not even ask for ours. There was a bit of a confusion at check-in, when the hostess asked if we were dining indoors or outdoors. We stated our preference, which the hostess stated was different from our reservation, but still accommodated us anyways. This was a bit perplexing for us, because Yelp's reservation system didn't even give us an option to choose indoors or outdoors. We were seated at an indoor table, right next to the window, overlooking the beautiful marina. They also have nice, heated outdoor seating on both the back patio area, as well as the front deck at the entrance. The decor is on the older end, but was pleasant nevertheless. We really enjoyed the beautiful orchids they have throughout. There is also a center area with a large table, that was being utilized for a private celebration at the time. My fiancée ordered the Fettuccine, while I had the Veal. She really enjoyed her order, which consisted of fettuccini pasta, with large prawns, sun-dried tomatoes, and kale. And I DEFINITELY enjoyed my Veal, which was very tender, and served with a side of potatoes and veggies. Overall a fairly enjoyable meal, with a great view to boot! read more

Fancy dining right next to the water so expect to pay a pretty penny. I came here with a friend because I was craving seafood. While being seated I noticed live music which was nice. There was a gentleman on the piano and a elder one singing classical tunes. The server was very nice. The complimentary sourdough bread was fresh and warm. My friend ordered the lamb and received a full filling portion of food. I ordered the scallops (which came with mushroom and mashed potatoes). I enjoy dining by the water at a table covered with a tablecloth. A meal at Lara's has all this: a great view of the Richmond marina/harbor and people walking by on part of the Marina Bay Trail. It is the perfect place to sit and enjoy a delicious meal at a relaxed pace. There is also a parking lot. I've had two great lunches here with Toni and Lori. Each time we ordered calamari to start. It is a large perfectly cooked serving with enough tentacles to go around. The first time I ordered a hamburger, it came with fries. I had enjoyed the calamari so much that I ended up bringing most of the burger and all of the fries home. The next time we went I had one of the specials. The crab ravioli in a rich cream sauce was so good I wanted to go back and have it the next day. It was plate-licking good. If I had gone back and gotten this to go, with no witnesses around, I might just have done this. read more

I like the non alcoholic drink of raspberries and mint with water. I finishing up last time we shared the key lime pie. That knocked our socks off. I made a reservation for lunch asking for a table on the window. I loved dining and looking out onto The Richmond Marina. That set the mood for a relaxing delicious lunch with friends Toni and Terry. The meal started right away with hot crusty sour dough baguette, olive oil, balsamic vinegar and butter! The server was very friendly and helpful . There was an appetizer glitch which sorta came too late , she gave a 50% comp. Once it arrived The fried calamari appetizer looked delicious and was accompanied by thick and rich marinara and aioli , was shared by T and T not a scrap was left ! The crab ravioli came sitting in a yummy looking cream sauce that was thoroughly enjoyed by T and T . Lick the plate kinda good! I had a pork chop , it was a bit over cooked because I thought the chop was going to be thick cut , so i ordered medium... should have ordered med rare. My error. It came with 2 sides . I had mixed broccoli , green beans and carrots and a sautéed spinach in place of mashed potatoes all very well prepared ! I asked the server for something not on the menu to go , the chef was very accommodating and made me veal parmesan, ( instead of the veal scallopini on the menu) it was delicious. Where do I start! First of all, the waitress never introduced herself. We were pointed to our table to be sat down. Then we sit down and received really poor service from our waitress who's name we didn't even get at all. We went to celebrate our dad's birthday and got really horrible service. Didn't get refills in a timely manner for our drinks. We also received mistakes on our order about 5 times, missing shrimp to a dish, over cooked chicken, overcooked steak, frozen spinach in our stuffed chicken, had to ask multiple times for our forgotten items to be brought out, our waitress was bartending and serving at the same time, for a meal that cost us nearly $500 the quality of food was horrible.
