Larc has a much larger collection of colored stones than any other jeweler in the area. (Stones in Wheaton has an amazing colored stones event once a year, or did before the pandemic, but that's only once a year.) They have mineral specimens; carved jade; coins; zircons; opals; amethyst; citrine; tourmaline; tanzanite; pearls; plus the standards (emerald/sapphire and I assume ruby). They also have an impressive estate selection and a small sale case with some real bargains, in addition to some cheap stone bracelets and clearly labeled rhinestone earrings as starter jewelry. In addition to the usual jewelry they carry large stone cabochone pendants, and a selection of stone and stone chip beads (these last are estate, I think). As I write this they also have a couple of boxes of goodies to rummage through that are deeply discounted (freshwater pearls! silver! stone!), starting at $5 or so which is fun and a bit dangerous to one's wallet. I have had stones set here, purchased estate pieces, and purchased one ring from some kind of a jeweler's look book they pulled out when showing me settings. As a note, if you really prefer silver to gold they can work with that. The colored stones are phenomenal. They mostly follow current fashion, as one would expect, but if you want something different they'll work with you. Prices are rather high ($1500 for a ring is not unusual), however the selection can't be beat, and prices are occasionally negotiable, particularly if you've been ambushed by several pieces in the estate case at once. And they get points for having affordable goodies you won't find at other high-end jewelers, so they've got range. When Yelp defined 5 stars as "as good as it gets," this would be a 4 star review; however now that 4 stars is merely good, I have to go 5. If this place has a sale, which I don't think they do often, run, do not walk. read more

I brought in a number of inherited family watches . I wanted to to see if they could be fixed There was only one they said could be fixed. It was an old Clinton. I found out from a reputable company. , They didn't fix it. They replaced the original mechanism which was wind up with a new battery operated mechanism . That's not what I wanted. I want the original to be fixed. There's nothing I can do about it now the old mechanism is gone. It needed a new strap. I told them what I want. They chose the strap and put it on. The first one didn't fit. I brought it back They exchanged it. The second one didn't fit either I'll be bringing it in for an exchange. In the meantime, the crown fell off the watch. Luckily, I found it. I'll be bringing it in for that to be put back on. I also brought in my gold Tag watch for repairs. The issue with that one was also the crown. They replaced the crown with what they said was a tag crown. It still was not working I could not change the time. In order to change the day and time you have unscrew it then pull out the crown twice a little bit for the time then a little bit more for the date. I brought it back in. It was still under the year warranty. They sent it out to their watchmaker again. It came back with a different crown. The new crown second one was way too big. It was obvious when you looked at it. It barely fits in the opening, and you still cannot unscrew it then pull it out to change the time and date. I happen to be in Las Vegas I had the watch with me I was brought it to Tourneau, for those who don't know , that is one of the most reputable Swiss watch companies there is. They looked at my watch, of course said I should've brought it to an authorized tag dealer. Lark's watch repair did such a poor job. They said there were two screws missing on the inside. The crown was the totally wrong one for my watch and it had not been resealed and was very susceptible to getting water in it . overall lark did a terrible job on my Tag and I feel scammed me on my Clinton. I had paid $200 for the original repairs for the Tag . I don't remember what I paid for the Clintons " repair "bringing it to an authorized tag dealer probably would've cost me $500 to $700. I am now passed the one year warranty date. I'll be bringing both watches back in hoping to get my $200 back, so I can have the money to send it to somebody who knows how to fix a Tag watch. I'm sure they can replace the crown on the Clinton, but nothing can change my disappointment that there is a modern mechanism inside my vintage watch. read more

I purchased a ring in which I had my engagement diamond reset. I heard "3 weeks." I was told the ring was going to be shipped to me via overnight courier, signature receipt required. About 6 weeks later, my ring was mailed to me - the ring box put in a USPS cardboard envelope. I paid approximately $2250 for the ring. It held my 1 carat diamond. Somehow, Larc didn't think it worthy of a USPS box. I was told it was sent overnight on a Monday. On Thursday, I found it on the walkway in front of my home. Signature? Nope! I removed a prior review because they let me know they were not sure how to proceed with a repair I needed on the ring after seeing the review. I had the ring repaired elsewhere. read more

We all know the big chain jewelry stores ("Every kiss begins with Kaaayyy.... It can only be JARED! The diamond exchange of Villa Park *insert waving goons*") and therefore many are inclined to go to these places because they must be the best-- they're huge! Don't be bought by catchy advertising, the little known teaching that applies to the jewelry industry is "if you know the jingle, you won't be getting the best deal/product". You'll also have to deal with super pushy sales people who pretend to care so very much about your needs when really all they see is a floating money bag over your head with the words "commission" written on it. This is not the case with Larc Jewelers. Yes, they need to sell stuff to stay in business, that's a given, but the customer service you will receive is exceptional. Wes (the owner), Carol, and Adrienne have each time proved to be wonderful to work with, going above and beyond to create a win-win solution for all. Their efforts paid off-- they made a sale and we (my fiancé and I) left as very satisfied customers who are more than happy to point more customers their way. My mother originally discovered Larc jewelers. We get our hair cut in the Little Shops of Glen Ellyn, whose staircase is just a couple doors down. She popped in for whatever reason and spotted some pieces they had that she knew I'd be keen on seeing (I won't mention what specifically just in case fiancé happens to read this-- secret, shh!), thus bringing me into the store on a later day. Both of our first experiences proved to be consistently great, and thus brought my fiancé and I in to purchase my engagement ring and wedding band several months later. I've said this in previous reviews, but I HATE SHOPPING, and therefore I also am somewhat bad at dealing with sales people. Another problem with jewelry stores is their favorite word is "FINANCING". We don't finance, we don't DO debt. We have a budget, we pay cash, and that's it-- many jewelers don't understand this and therefore they don't see those money bags over our heads. Larc understands this though. They don't offer financing anyway but they also didn't try to push our budget: they worked with it. They're easy going and relaxed so I was likewise able to relax and actually enjoy the shopping experience (a miracle for me). These two things were huge contributors to our purchase. Another issue you'll find with many jewelry stores is they don't carry as many color gemstones as diamonds. For many years I've wanted a sapphire engagement ring and wedding band with very minimal diamonds-- this is therefore a problem. I couldn't actually get any sapphires in front of me which made it all the more difficult for me to make decisions. Larc specializes in colored stones so I had many options in front of me! Awesome! They even had the exact wedding band I envisioned having. They kept pulling things for me from the back until I found the engagement setting and stone that immediately made me say "yes, that is it". Both rings are beautiful but we were concerned the price was outside of our budget. They were a bit high, but Wes very kindly worked with us and negotiated the right price. I'm not trying to bash other jewelers, but for someone like me, Larc was the perfect experience. The whole shopping, purchasing, and pick up process was awesome, and we will recommend their services to anyone who may need them. I could easily say more, but Yelp will cut me off. When my husband and I got engaged in 1994, we didn't have a lot of money and had always planned on one day replacing my engagement ring. We knew Larc Jewelers owner Wes to be an honest guy and someone who not only knew a lot about jewelry but also as someone who was passionate about jewelry. A couple years ago I called Wes with the intention of making a ring from scratch. Wes and his team spent a great deal of time with me to find the right setting, band, and diamond, only to have me decide we needed to wait on the purchase. They were very kind and understanding with my decision, despite the fact that they'd spent many man-hours on my ring. Last February I received a 1/2 carat diamond that once belonged to someone very important to me. I once again called Wes, and we got started on another ring for me. I didn't know the right questions to ask, but Wes was patient and helped me by first asking what I wanted in a ring. When I had ideas, he was able to tell me if my ideas would work with my diamond and what the result would be. Wes suggested that I go on-line and look at rings and email him pictures of what I liked and told me we could build from that. I sent him several pictures, and he helped me decide on the halo setting. It was a perfect fit for my diamond to act as both a new wedding ring for me as well as a piece honoring my loved one. He was careful to tell me that because my diamond was very old it had a slight yellowing and would be a different color than the new diamonds in my halo setting. He told me that I may not notice it but wanted to tell me so I could consider it when making my decision. My fiancé and I were told to come to Larc for our engagement ring, especially since we were going to transfer my grandmother's diamond from her ring to another. We stopped in and were promptly helped by Cary. My fiancé and I are both completely oblivious to terminology and how such fine jewelry is made but Cary still understood exactly what we were explaining and guided us on how we should go about it. Cary started taking notes to prepare for our custom ring and after about 15 minutes we left feeling excited for what he was about to create. A few days later Cary called and told us that his partner happened to buy a ring that almost exactly matched what we described and sent pictures. I got married this June and needed to have my wedding/engagement ring set and my husband's wedding ring appraised for insurance purposes. I called the store on a Monday morning to see if they could have the rings appraised by that Wednesday (I am from Illinois but now live in Wisconsin), and I was told that it would be possible to do the appraisal quickly. I brought the rings to the shop at about 11 AM and was kindly greeted by staff member named Carol who told me that the appraiser (Wes) would likely have the rings appraised by the end of the day at $45 each. I declined to add a picture to the appraisals ($15 to add a picture). Carol called me at about 4 PM and told me that I could pick up the rings when convenient. Overall, a great experience! I wasn't in the market for buying anymore jewelry, but it appears that the store has a decent selection of rings, pendants, watches, and earrings. read more
