(There was construction going on right outside the front door, so beware if there's any mobility concerns!) My fiance and I came here on a weekend for an elevated lunch experience (it's a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant that makes its own cured meats). Make a reservation because there are only a handful of tables. We started with a delicious charcuterie board composed of meats (we both liked the speck the best), cheeses, honey, almonds, grapes, plum jam, ciabatta bread and toast rounds, and some awesome pickled vegetables that I could not stop eating (loved the carrots!). Even though we had both ordered sandwiches as well, we wanted to eat every bite on this tray! As to the sandwiches, he got the seasonal chef's choice of hot honey ham and I got the capicola and burrata with pesto sauce. Wow- what an incredible gem! We noticed Lardons patio months ago and kept intending to swing and finally made it in last weekend. They have a happy hour that extends to Saturday which is about unheard of and everything is SO good. We shared the meatball sandwich (plenty for lunch for us anyway) and every component was perfection- the bread was crusty but fluffy, meatballs were juicy and delicious, the pesto drizzle was killer... just an absolute home run. Terrible service. TL;DR: completely unfair on which patrons to serve and which not to? Seemed racial, or due to other bias. We arrived at 3:28 on Sunday, and they told us 'the kitchen closes in 2 mins, sorry but we can't serve you'. And as we were leaving, we saw a white couple coming in. I initially thought they were going to be turned away as well, but when we came to the car they still hadn't left, so I decided to go back and see what happened. When I went back, to my surprise, the white couple was seated down and being served? Then after politely asking if we could get a sandwich to go, as I had come from out of town, they quickly said 'I guess the first four that aren't hot sandwiches'. We ordered the Italian. By the time our Italian was done being made, the other white couple had their food being served to them table side, and lo and behold they had a hot sandwich? So, for whatever reason, they initially refused us food even though the kitchen was technically still open when we arrived. Then, gave seats and service to a different group that came after. Lardon is built inside a 110 year old building in Logan square, equipped with an actual charcuterie cave where the meats are cured and the cheese is aged (one thing about me is i LOVE a historic space). The sandwiches are mainly offered in the afternoon during their 'salumeria' hours but you can also come by in the morning for espresso and pastries or at night to dine in their bistro. My partner and I came here for a casual date night bc we're both suckers for a good charcuterie & cheese board with our vino. Their charcuterie & salumi selection is amazing--although I was super bummed that they were out of their Truffled Lonza ("white truffle, sea salt, bay leaf" just sounds amazing!). We ordered 7 from the charcuterie list and 3 from the cheese list and we. ate. EVERYTHING. #NoRegrets Gotta say, my favorite was the Fromage des Tete (which is not cheese), and the Bresaola which had a lovely rosemary & bayleaf combo flavor. The Rogue Smokey Blue was my favorite cheese. It was a nice savory blue that packs a lot of smoke. Usually I like my fruity/floral blues but this was nothing like I've had before, and it paired nicely with their smoked onion jam! After we ate everything on the massive board of yums, we (I saw we, but it was 'I') ordered the Trotter Cake which was a beautiful braised pork trotter and shank cake fried and served with green garlic aioli & pickled cauliflower. The trotter cake could've used a touch more salt (although buds could've just been exhausted from all the charcuterie) but the garlic aioli saved the day. Don't snooze on their pickled cauliflower either, it's really refreshing! My dirty martini was definitely dirty and it was excellent. My partner described it as "like drinking right out of an olive jar" but he doesn't understand martinis or dirty martinis. His Negroni (on draft) was very well balanced and lovely as well. The service here is terrible! Our server was acting like we were inconveniencing them by dining for lunch. When we finally got our food, the bread was stale and I think it was day old at least. I pointed this out to the server and all he could do was shrug and say "yea, we only get bread every couple of days". For a sandwich shop, I think the bread would be a top priority. The Italiano is excellent, the Frenchie needs work and the Hotel California is very good, potato chips are homemade and very good. The service is friendly, but they could use a different form of organization for waiting patrons. The Rueben looked really good, however, we did not have it. I expected more from a 'Michelin rated' sandwich environment. Take it to go, save on drinks, service charge and tip. Nice people! read more

This was my first time trying a Charcuterie Board. We arrived without a reservation and was able get seated right away, despite them being somewhat full. It'll we had asked if we could sit outside in their patio, but our request was denied because of there being rain in the forecast. It's understandable. No big deal. Then 15 minutes later another couple gets seated outside... Overall I would say the service was inconsistent. Our server wasn't very welcoming. He was nice but didn't explain anything at the beginning. He took our initial order which was a Rueben sandwich, and once that was ready and put in our table he never asked if we needed anything else. Which we did. We also had to ask for napkins and silverware. I other servers were more welcoming, had smiles and did a lot better job at explaining how everything works. The Rueben sandwich came with pastrami, midnight moon Gouda, house kraut, deli pickles, a dandy sauce all in between a "marbled" rye. Didn't really look like a marbled rye. It was good though. One of the best Rueben's I've had in a while. I also ordered my own custom charcuterie board. With three different meats and cheeses. Despite my servers inconsistencies, I do applaud him for explaining our board and offering suggestions on what to pair with what. He seemed excited when explaining and said one of his favorites was Truffled Lardo with the honey. He was absolutely right. That pairing was perfect. I adore charcuterie boards, they are like a food group for me, with brunch being at the top of the food pyramid. I am always making them at home, so imagine my surprise to discover a restaurant that specializes in charcuterie boards. Score! My BFF No.2 and I went here before heading to the Regal Theater for a movie. My BFF No.2 cannot stop talking about this place and I thought they did an excellent job on the presentation. The space itself is space and they do take reservations, so I would strongly recommend getting one. Because it it was our first time here, we decided to go with the chef's board and that was not a bad choice. The meat and cheese was fresh and the blending of the flavors was spot on. There is also a separate menu for meats and cheeses that allows you to build your own board. Based on the initial selections we got, we ended up getting additional meats and cheese. My favorites were the Fromage des Tete, Pork Terrina, and the Sofia, Capriole Farms Goat cheese. Absolutely lovely. What I would say is that the prices can add up if you go crazy, but for me that is not an issue. I want what I want and will pay for it. Another win for me was that the had a nice prosecco by the bottle at a decent price. There was dessert but we didn't have time to do it as we were trying to get to the movie on time. The staff was lovely and fully versed on the meats and cheeses. And it was nice to see the meat hanging in the window. The fact that they cure their own meat is huge for me, so amazing and you can taste the difference. This should have been a five star adventure, but I knocked a star off as we went in August 2022 and it was hot as heck in the restaurant, which we thought would be cooler than sitting outside since it was really hot. If there was an air conditioner, I couldn't really tell. I have no problem with meat sweats, but I don't want any help beyond me eating the meat itself. That said, we will be back here for the boards. There is plenty of street parking, or at least it was the Saturday we went, so that is a plus as well.
