My son took private lessons here. The teachers changed often and the one teacher he had most often did barely anything with him during the lesson. She apparently drank too much on July 4th and our July 5th lesson was cancelled last minute. The instructor we had last was too aggressive with my son to the point where he didn't want to go anymore. It is also wildly overpriced and they are very aggressive with their billing practices. We quit in early September and they wouldn't let the drop take effect until three more bills went through. read more

Arrogant and self centered owner First off let me mention this. They have carpet in the waiting room right outside the pool area. That carpet is disgusting and must be molding underneath at this point. We had our 4 year old daughter go here for about 3-4 months for private lessons. Our daughter is a slow learner and we didn't expect her to become a Michael Phelps. Just to become comfortable in the water. There was very little progress but we were ok with the slow progress as long as she got more exposure and became more comfortable in the water. The owner (Joy, who was not her teacher) finally approach me and asked when my daughter would be ready to go under water, as I had instructed her teacher for weeks to not dunk her head under water due to an earlier incident where her teacher dunked her under water when she wasn't ready. She wasn't ready and not comfortable doing that and I was fine with her just taking the time to teach her other stuff. Hence the private lessons that we payed for, and a tailored approach Joy was not ok with that apparently. We had a conversation over the phone with her where we asked if they could take a more tailored approach to our daughter rather than the standard one that she does for everyone else. Not too big of an ask you'd think since they've taught hundreds of kids to swim. Her exact response was "I don't need any suggestions. I've done this for 30 years". No joke. That's what she said. My kids have been going for over a year with private lessons. The billing and management is a mess, it's nearly impossible to get anyone to answer a phone call or email, and you can forget about rescheduling if you have to miss a lesson. As a result, we almost never miss a lesson. The teachers are nice, and they seem to have bonded with my kids, but very little progress has been made in over a year. We also had a very bad experience with their management. Teachers have no ideas about students name or level and frequently substitute out as soon as you get some familiarity. I love Little Dipper Aquatic Center! They are a small indoor swim center in the middle of an industrial area of Concord, you would never know they are there if you didn't know they were there. My daughter has taken private swim lessons for the past three years, each year at a different swim center. My daughter has progressed so much more at Little Dipper Aquatic Center than at the previous swim centers, building her confidence, refining her form and style. The staff are amazing. Carolyn the Manager is always available via Email and is so accommodating with my different scheduling needs. My daughter started out swimming with Kirsten who is also the Asst. Manager, Kirsten has an incredible teaching style, my daughter was very receptive to Kirsten's lessons and styles. Kirsten also over sees the party planning for birthday swim party's and the once a month parents nights out event. Kristine has a heart and personality for kids. Since my daughters personal activities had changed I needed to switch her swim time to another night. I feared my daughter would not continue her same level of lessons, have no fear.... LDAC has structured lesson plans that all the instructors follow so there is no lapse in their lessons. They have a report card to continue the lesson until all skills are met. My daughter's second instructor is Cindy. Cindy is right on with her lessons and focuses on proper form which my daughter needs practice since I taught her a poor swim form this summer. Cindy is amazing, warm, and encouraging. The toddler who's lesson is right before my daughters cries over half her lesson, Cindy is so patient and clam with that little girl and able to teach her to swim. I have never seen such an amazing woman like Cindy. The center is always clean, with a complimentary coffee bar. locker rooms with private bathrooms and a shower area. I have always chosen private swim lessons for my daughter, I wanted her to get one on one attention and learn the fundamental skill of swimming. The cost of these lessons some would say are on the pricey side, I figured it out to be @$30 for a 20 minute lesson and at LDAC I can definitely say we are getting our monies worth. read more

We have our five month old daughter enrolled here for group lessons. We love her instructor Marilyn who has 30 years of experience. They have an indoor heated salt water pool. I personally love getting in the water. My daughter is on her second month. She is very comfortable in the water and has no problem with her head under water. We have had a good experience with the service and staff so far. Minus one star because the facility is a bit small and the space is limited when getting ready to get in and out of the water. You have a choice of two bathrooms with no place to change a baby. You have to get on the ground in the waiting/viewing area. Also, the bathrooms get super wet and slippery. Other than that, we are very happy. read more

They have two types of instructors: 1) extremely talented, been doing this for years and know how to handle multiple kids on top of the fact that they know how to teach And 2) new to teaching, they may themselves know how to swim, and may have gone over the swim school techniques but don't know how to control any difficult kids or navigate different instructional techniques. If you get instructor 1, it's awesome. The classes are great and it's worth every penny. If you get instructor 2, you are paying for about 3 minutes of instruction time while an individual kid who has learned how to manipulate the teacher for attention gets the entirety of the focus... so a waste of time and money. Outside of that, Joy, who I believe is an owner, is an outstanding teacher, and clear about billing, policies and customer interaction. God forbid you have to ask for clarification from Carolynn. I'll just give you a heads up. It is your DUTY to scour the business and look at all posted bulletins in the play area, behind the sales counter in the sales area and on the doors. Even though there are a couple that contradict each other, it's your ROLL as a customer to find out which is current, which is new and to provide them with the requirements. So don't bother emailing her... or calling. Voicemails don't count. It has to be in email form and even then, it doesn't matter. Good luck, roll the dice. We love this place! My son has been taking swim lessons for over a year and its probably one of the best investments we ever made. My son, who's almost 2 1/2 has always loved the water so naturally we thought swim lessons. Just in time also because they had a Groupon that was very affordable so we looked at it as a trial run.. and he and us loved it! He's more confident and comfortable in the water that its reassuring to know he wont freak out and that he'a learning valuable skills that can potentially save his life. I'm not saying he, at 2 1/2 can swim on his own yet, but through repetition (the baby class is with a parent and its the same routine every week), he's honing on his skills to become a confident swimmer in the future. And it really takes a lot of patience because my son, being in his terrible twos, has his good days and his very not so good days. But again, most things are learned through patience, repetition and time. The staff is very friendly, and I love their make-up system where if you can't make it to a class you sign out on their google spreadsheet and you can see openings to where your child can make up the class he missed. Very user friendly. I guess the only negative is probably the pool isn't that big. So if you're in the baby class (which is up to 6 babies with their parents), you also have a few of the private classes going on so it gets kind of crowded. But this is a great place to get your kid on track with being comfortable in the water! read more

Great facility. The staff is nothing but friendly. Love that there is a toy area which keeps my 10 month old busy while we wait for her sister. The self served online make up system is easy to use when you miss a lesson. My 5 year old started taking lessons here about a year ago. We absolutely love Suzie! She is very calm and patient with my daughter who at first didn't want to blow bubbles underneath the water. Suzie had a few tricks up her sleeve and made my daughter feel so comfortable that within a few lessons my daughter was excited to swim every Tuesday. We have seen tremendous progress on her confidence, swimming ability and enthusiasm. She has moved up several levels. I highly recommend little dippers for swim lessons for your little ones. There are one or two good teachers here if you are lucky to be in their class, but the management is horribly disorganized. We had several experiences of class being cut short or being put in with the wrong teacher or wrong kid of different level in our class and each time the staff was unapologetic and expected us to figure out what went wrong between the swim teacher and scheduling at front desk. We tried to explain our frustration to the swim center management, but met with the same unapologetic indifference. Save yourself the trouble and find a better managed institution. read more

Both of my kids have been taking lessons here over the past year and I can't say enough good things. They are now so much more skilled and confident with swimming and they look forward to their lessons every week. Teacher Joy has been amazing for my son. My son can be stubborn and difficult but he gets so excited to see her and works hard to follow directions. She's the perfect combo of firm and encouraging and is great with kids. UPDATE: Just got a call from the Manager (funny that this happened shortly after I posted reviews to Facebook, Google and Yelp), not the Owner as I was promised. She tried blaming Harlow. Told me it was the teacher's first day, and that she didn't handle the situation correctly. You think? I asked do you think it's appropriate for someone's first day to have 2 new students with no experience that she wasn't capable of supervising? How is it ok to turn your back on a 4 year old or not ask for someone to assist with keeping an eye on them? How is it that the other instructors don't work as a team to keep an eye on the 4 year old sitting on their own?! That they don't have a rule in place to sit on one of the chairs OUTSIDE of the pool if they have no experience?! She said that the front desk scheduled us in the wrong type of class because they were siblings even though they enrolled in the same class we had been in the year prior. The Manager tried to tell me that they thought since they were siblings that Aubrielle would also "keep an eye on her"!!!!! I'm like you're expecting my 7 year old to watch my 4 year old while she's having her second swimming lesson ever?! Are you kidding me?! This entire thing is so unbelievable! She admitted they were in violation of their Covid rules by having too many adults in the swimming area. She admitted that after her interviews of the staff nobody had mentioned the two additional people in the pool area that shouldn't have been there. That she didn't think it was another instructor in the water, but that she wasn't sure and would have to check payroll. I explained to her that Aubrielle at 7 years old was extremely uncomfortable about the fact that her instructor that was holding her in the deep end dunking her was talking with the teacher across the way while they both had their back turned to other students (Harlow and the other girl). Aubrielle told me that the girl appeared younger than her and she was worried for her since her instructor wasn't even looking at her as she swam back and forth across the deep end. The manager brushed me of, she tried to make it out as if it wasn't a big deal, yet if I hadn't have been watching Harlow would be DEAD! She was not tall enough to break the surface to make a noise and nobody even noticed she was in the water!! Thank god I was there! I can't even begin to write out everything that she said that was not appropriate in the conversation. But she insisted that it would be best for us to bring the girls back to give them a better experience. When I asked what procedures they had in place or would be putting in place to train these instructors she didn't even have a plan of action in place other than "speaking with them" and the event was a huge "life lesson." For them. At my daughter's expense! I am so livid. I asked how is it that each of these teachers is a trained life guard and not one of them approached Harlow to examine her? She told me since they all stated she wasn't coughing and hadn't been under too long the assumed she was fine and only scared. She was CHOKING when I took her out! They don't even know how long she was under because nobody was paying attention, NOBODY SAW her go under! I asked every instructor in that room, how can I tell if she aspirated water while under, when was the last time anyone of them had even looked at Harlow to make sure she was where she was supposed to be? Nobody answered me. To this the Manager responded that the other parent in the waiting room had said that Harlow hadn't been under the water that long. I said this to her, if the other parent saw her go under, he would have spoken up and acted, at the very least gotten my attention. I, MYSELF, was the first to see her struggling unable to break the surface, COMPLETELY SUBMERGED. I YELLED TO GET EVERYONE'S ATTENTION. I WAS THE FIRST TO NOTICE. So therefore, no, the opinions of everyone else on how long she was under are NOT valid. read more

We've been taking our 8-month old daughter here to the starfish class for a little over a month now and I'm happy to have a swim center and instructor (Carrie) that provide a warm and safe environment for infants and toddlers. The first time I brought her she looked at me like "what in the world is this" and didn't want to leave my side. She's slowly getting more adjusted, splashing in the water and doesn't cry most of the time she gets dipped under water. I also love that parents are comfortable dressing their kids in the waiting area outside the pool. I mean, this is probably more for us parents than the kids, but hey if it helps her get used to being in the water early on I'm all for it. We have being bringing my daughter since she was 6 months old and she is now 3! I cannot believe this worked out so well. In that amount of time we have had 2 teachers Ms. CARRIE and Ms. LAUREN! They are beyond incredible! Ms. Carrie really set a great foundation for my daughter and Ms. Lauren has so much patience for her and constantly challenges to be better. When my daughter was 3 months She was diagnosed with spinal condition and I was told she would never walk/stand. My mother who is a nurse recommended water therapy. I decided to enroll her in baby swim classes since she had shown a genuine interest in water. A week ago she had an MRI and the difference is remarkable her spine looks way different then the Original MRI. The doctor asked me what we had been doing and I told her that I take her swimming! The neuro surgeon said water therapy has made such an improvement in her spine. My son started going there on July 10th, and because of various reasons, I have to withdraw from the starfish class. I stopped after 7 swimming lessons, which they advertised as $80 per 4 weeks lessons, plus $25 enrollment fee. If prorated, this would cost $165 total. However, they charged me $200 instead! **** Update: After calculation, they refunded me $20 back as I bought $15 diaper before. One more star for refunding it quick. **** The enrollment was pretty easy, just download and fill the application, but we were confused when we first started the lesson because the teacher doesn't have any roster or know who are new / will attend that lesson. We just had to kinda figure out and get into the pool, then the teacher started to ask whether we're in the class or not. Also, the carpet in the waiting area it looks bad & dirty / used toys are presented there. There's only 1 shower & 1 restroom in each in the ladies and gents rooms, so we had to wait for others to finish their quick shower before we can do ours. The floor near the pool is quite dirty although they're using a plastic mesh, so most ppl use sandals. I too bought sandals for my son so he's feet is protected from the dirty floor around the pool. I just can't believe all the great reviews ppl put in this yelp. ***UPDATE: The owner emailed me & said that based on the county planning committee, they can only build 1 shower per room, and they tried to applied for the 2nd shower but wasn't able due to the structure. They also said that they deep cleaned the carpet once a month and sanitize the toys frequently. I came to the pool today & saw that they have cleaned the floor around the pool and not dirty anymore, but I think they still should have make some investments with changing to a better carpet or do some painting job or better toys. We've tried a few swimming schools in the past, but Little Dipper is by far the best in the area! When we started last year, my 5yo son was so scared of swimming and refused to put his head in the water, but with the help of teacher Susie he overcame his fears and now swimming is his favorite activity! :) The staff are wonderful and I would recommend Little Dipper to anyone looking for swimming lessons. read more

My twins have been taking lessons with Joy since they were 8 months old. They are 4 and they both swim unassisted. The technique used is amazing. They teach the babies to flip on their backs, kick to the side and hold on if they fall in the water. Can't recommend more highly! read more

Their teachers are cool but the place has some serious issues as follows - 1. Extremely hard, next to impossible, to reschedule a class. Forget about going on vacation and rescheduling 2. They charge a lot of money but some teachers short end you on time. I really appreciate the program's focus on water safety, and my daughter really appreciates all the songs and games. Okay, so the lady who I named in my review I'm sure works very hard, and is probably trying to do too many things at once. I'd like to believe she is a very nice person who works very hard. We have all been there. However, the business has publically responded to my review without displaying the original communication I sent from their website, which clearly shows they are not answering my initial questions and would rather just schedule me and take my money without answering basic questions first. While providing faulty email box excuses, they fail to address not returning my phone call, I'm sorry... We love little dippers aquatic center! We have tried other swim schools, but we're disappointed. This school teaches my kids real swim techniques with a strong focus on rescue swimming and what to do if they accidentally fall into a pool. We love Miss Heidi and Miss Abby. This school has been around for years, and owner, Joy, actually taught me to swim 35 years ago. Her dedication and love of her job is clearly evident in her kind demeanor, skilled swim instructors, and proud smile as she watches her students learn new skills. read more

Below average place, although the baby class was good. They do almost the same exact lesson each time and are way expensive for a once a week 20 min only private lesson. They expect too many & hard skills for the second level after the baby class. They aren't that good or understanding to little kids who may be fearful of going underwater & dislike goggles. I would've just been happy if they taught my kid to float, doggy paddle, jump in. No progress was made in a year and was a waste of money. Also the instructors were a bit too young. My kid made more progress with a substitute than a teacher they switched her to. Also they are terrible at book keeping & their accounting. They had no record we attended for several months etc. much better time teaching my kid on my own and also going elsewhere. read more

My freestyle is very smooth and fluid and I'm learning how to float and TRUST the water. Now, this is only 1 day a week and look how fast I've improved and gained a skill that help me forever in my life and also ENJOY being in the water. I ADVISE YOU TO COME TO LITTLE DIPPER IMMEDIATELY BEFORE THE CLASES FILL UP. STOP PROCRASTINATING AND STOP PUTTING IT OFF AND LEARN HOW TO SWIM.. My son started attending Little Dippers swim school after I purchased a Groupon. The facility is super clean, and very well maintained. There is a large sitting area behind a wall that you see the pool, and there are a few other rooms for parties. LD also has dressing rooms and showers. The pool itself is salt water, so you don't have to worry about your childs eyes stinging from chlorine. Overall the facility itself is very pleasant. The staff at LD is wonderful and enthusiastic. LD has a very standardized way of teaching, and this encourages consistency. I would disagree about the customer service issue. I have experienced wonderful customer service. I was also very pleased when LD was willing to change a class time for me to accomodate my schedule. LD is very willing to work with their customers. read more

We have tried other swim schools in the area that cost less, but we went back to Little Dippers because their swim instructors are all well trained and because of their focus on water safety. We now have sent all 3 of our children through Little Dippers program, and we are very pleased with the results. I found it easy in dealing with the office staff. All of my e-mail questions and requests were always responded to that same day, and they were both friendly and professional responses. We started with Little Dippers with my oldest son 10 years ago, in the owner's back yard pool. Then a friend of mine talked me into trying a different aquatic center with my younger twins because it was cheaper. The other center's instructors were no where near as focused on water safety, and their pool was large and intimidating for little ones learning to swim. So, we went back to Little Dippers, and then they opened their kid friendly sized Aquatic Center with the same experienced instructors, and the same family run feeling we love. We have now had our daughter at Little Dipper for about 3 years now. Joy has been her teacher through most of her swimming journey and I cannot say enough how much we love her and the other friendly staff! Joy is able to work through the ups and downs of having a 4 (almost 5) year old. Whenever our daughter is having a melt down, Joy is firm and does not let her win, which is a method I appreciate greatly. My older child has been taking lessons with teacher Suzie for just a year, and in that short time has gotten over her fear of water and can now swim the entire length of the pool independently. Suzie is a former lifeguard, and my daughter adores her. As other reviews mention, LD's emphasis is on water safety and feeling confident and comfortable in the water. I love that they teach students how to save themselves if they ever accidentally fall into a pool or body of water. My son has also had classes with Joy and Paige, who are equally as wonderful. Yes, the shower area could be a little cleaner, but they do their best to sanitize everything and keep things running smoothly. We love Little Dipper! read more

Our 5yr old has been going to Little Dippers for over 2yrs now. In the beginning, there was quite a bit of turnover but we've had the same instructor for over six months now and we love her! Jenna is the best. We've seen a huge improvement in our daughter's swimming and she enjoys her time in the pool. I can see the effort made by Jenna to improve our daughter's technique. The recent focus has been on improving her stroke (big reaches), side breathing, and kick form. The attention to detail is outstanding. I hope we get to continue to work with her. My son absolutely LOVES Heidi!!! He started going to this school when he turned 2yrs old. We live in Danville but happily drive to see Heidi every week since most swim schools around us require parents to be in the water with their kids until 2 1/2 or 3yrs. Our son has been taking lessons since 6 months old but never advanced until we switched schools. From day one our son was very comfortable with Heidi's teaching method and created a trusting bond with her that encouraged him to learn how to swim....after a month we saw a huge improvement and now he can swim with the help of Heidi. My son also talks about Heidi all the time at home and wonders what she is doing =) He goes to school twice a week and for the life of him he can't remember his preschool teacher's names but for some reason he remembers Heidi's name and looks forward to his weekly 20mins lessons with her! The pros: Friendly staff, has a variety of toys in the waiting room, parents can sit right by the side of the pool (most schools have you sit behind a glass) and kids get a cookie at the end of each class. PLEASE READ! CAUTION!!!! I don't post often except when it is to warn people. I am a very reasonable person and give reviews only to awesome places or terrible places. If you have toddler that tends to be shy but loves to swim or special needs, don't come here. You will that although the staff seem nice, no one is accommodating when schedules need to be changed. My 3 year old is a normal shy boy who loves swimming but when it comes to meeting teachers for the first time he is shy and tends to need a little time to warm up. Stay away from Eileen. She is a terrible teacher, they get multiple complaints about her and the owner doesn't fire her. She has traumatized my son from being in the water independently and it breaks my heart. We demanded that we finish off the session with another teacher and yet no one can accommodate us. The choices are either you use the last class with this woman who I witnessed shove my son's head in the water multiple times during his short class with her or you no show and your money is non-refundable. I've tried calling and speaking to the staff and their response was that they're sorry they're all booked but if I re-enroll and pay for another session, I can't make up this class with another teacher. REALLY?!?! Never coming back here. Only good thing about this place is the heated pool but if you want REAL good teachers that know how to teach small children and babies to swim, go to Debbie's swim school. They're super knowledgeable and since we had our kids go to both schools at the same time the professionalism at Debbie's is way better. read more

I have had 5 children attend swim classes with Joy, all started at age 3mo. and all 5 are amazing little swimmers. Classes start exactly on time and Joy is always ready with a smile on her face, she remembers all the children's names, personality quirks and always takes their best interest first. I think this swim school has an awesome program that has proven to work time and time again. If you are serious about water safety, This is the school for you. Julie read more
