Michael Azar Hair Salon - I went here to get highlights in my hair. They were booked, but the…read morereceptionist was able to accommodate me that very day. The salon is located in quaint little white house. It blended in so well with the residential houses that I almost passed it. I was nervous about parking, but they do have a gravel lot in the back of the salon to accommodate more clients. When I walked into the salon, I felt kind of fancy schmancy and thought to myself, I totally feel like Elle Woods right now. The clientele seemed like they got some moola in their pockets. The salon seemed really lively and conversations floweth left and right. Being Asian, I was really concerned with how the highlights were going to turn out. I was emphatic on not having any copper tinge to my highlights. The process took 1.5 hrs for a whole head highlight. My hairdresser was very thorough. It was considerate (and prudent) of her to ask me if I liked the color before she proceeded. I okayed it, even though it was difficult to tell what color it was due to the lighting in the back. I was happy with the results. I did not look too hoochi mama but you could definitely tell I have high lights. While I was there, the owner, M. Azar, stopped by and asked me how I was doing, assured me that my hair would look fantabulous, and checked up on me when I was finished. My hairdresser also offered me h2o in a champagne plastic cup (fancy (some sarcasm)). Overall I was very happy with the results. The price tag was $230 for full head highlight (170), blow-dry and style (30) and tip. Luckily, the net price was half that ( danke Scoutmob!). Even so, I cringed at the price. Oh well, I'll try anything at least once. I did feel a little fantabulous afterwards. One weird thing is they don't have a tip line on cc payments. So I had to tip in debit. One thing I did not approve of was the hairdresser basically stood there to see how much tip I was going to leave. Then she thought I wasn't going to leave a tip bc I didn't have any cash on me, so she had this grim expression on her face. Hold your horses lady, I tip! I don't think that's good etiquette.

I am always loyal to my hairstylists, I mean you don't want everyone and anyone cutting and…read morecoloring your hair because you could end up half bald with orange hair. :-( I choose a stylist and stick with them. After I had to find a new stylist, I panicked, I had to find someone that would listen to my opinion know what styles, colors, and cuts I like and add their input. I want to be able to trust my stylist to give me what I want, but also add in their expertise when giving me updated looks. A friend recommended Ryan Rumpel. I took a chance and I am so happy I did. Ryan is in a small salon in Buckhead. The location is great! Ryan told me it might be difficult to find, so he gave me detailed directions. My "directionally challenged" self actually found it the fist time. NICE! I walked up the staircase into a small but charming salon. Ryan was still with a client but greeted me immediately and asked me to have a seat and relax while I waited. Ryan was finished with his other client within 5 minutes, which was exactly on time for my set appointment. Ryan immediately sat down and started asking me what I was looking for in a cut and color. I showed him several pictures of hair styles and colors I liked, but told him I wanted to be able to give him the trust to pick the best option for my face structure & skin tone. Ryan listened to everything I told him about what I knew I liked and didn't like when it came to hair styles. He was detailed and made me aware of all costs so that I was able to know what I was going to get and not have "sticker shock". I let Ryan take the lead with choosing my color and I am so happy I did. My cut and color came are perfect!!! I am so happy Ryan was recommended to me. I am now his faithful client. Just a few extra notes I think are great... Not that the big salons aren't great, but I love the attention I get from a small salon with a few stylists. Your stylist can become like family when you are with them for years, so I need to be able to trust my stylist as well as be able to talk to them. Ryan chatted about his life and family and I discussed my life stories...I mean aren't hairstylists basically therapists that make you look better? I would highly recommend Ryan for women and men. He had a male client, that I believe is also a friend that came in for a quick haircut. Ryan was able to fit him in last minute and they discussed different men's styles. I actually enjoyed listening to the different men's hair styles...I learned something new. So, ok guys, if you're bald you won't want to go here...but if you have hair, Ryan is your guy! Ladies, trust me, Ryan is an amazing stylist and also a genuine person that loves what he does. He knows hair, knows styles, trends and what to do toile his clients look their best! This is a small salon with a couple stylists doing their own thing. Prices are beyond low...I seriously laughed when he told me the cost for my cut and color, I actually told him "you're kidding, right? That's way too cheap", but Ryan was quick to say that he charges for services. I know exactly what that means, I'm not paying for the overhead and marketing of a large salon, I am paying the stylist for their services. That to me is what I want! To make an appointment you can email or call Ryan Rumpel. ryanrumpel@gmail.com or 910-297-5855

Some of you may be scoffing at that number thinking it's child's play. You guys? I don't even KNOW 80 people. It's the most "likes" I've ever gotten. Ex-boyfriends from high school came out of the woodwork to comment on it. The person behind me on a plane (coach mind you, where people are notoriously cranky) tapped me on the shoulder and popped their head into the aisle to ask me about my hair. I went back to work last week and former students, new students, parents, teacher friends, my administration all complimented me on the fabulousness that is my hair. I really wanted to cut it all off - a "choppy bob" length. Jeff nodded knowingly and I felt completely at ease. Ladies can get anxious prior to losing a lot of length - not me, because I completely trust Jeff. "Chop it off! Chop it alllll off!" (It was particularly muggy that day). He laughed and said in due time. My shampooing was particularly luxurious. And the cut came and I looked up and I could cry I was so pleased. That evening I played with it and bounced it around and took my hair cut out. Oohs and aaahs ensued from friends and enemies alike. What can I say? The man is magic. He offers everything you could possibly want (the following list is not exhaustive): choppy bobs, funky colors (and normal ones too), extensions, aggressive bangs, comraderie and the desire to make you look as good and feel as awesome as possible. Make an appointment. You won't ever for one second regret it.

The the super cool rainbow hair guy offered us a couple options but the only one that worked was seeing Oliver which he was worried about because it was spendy (and my daughter is not someone you would necessarily want to spend $85 on a hair cut for). Totally worth it. My daughter has a tangle of loose curls and it's literally the first cut she ever had that doesn't look like it barely made a dent in the mayhem. It's been several weeks and still looks great. Extra props to Oliver for scoring me a Diet Coke and putting up with a goofy teenage girl. My only regret is that I didn't get a haircut.

This time I went in for a root touchup and a highlights the color came out gorgeous. The haircut, however, was just OK - I made a comment that stylists usually get my layers wrong and bunch them together too much and they need more separation (I'm really not sure what you call that but it's when one layer ends and there are several inches until the next layer begins, so long hair looks absolutely gorgeous styled and cascading down your back). Instead, 90% of all stylists don't listen, don't understand and cut layers that are all bunched together at the bottom. Truly frustrating and of course was the result of my last visit. I will bring pictures next time to try to convey some understanding.
