The the super cool rainbow hair guy offered us a couple options but the only one that worked was seeing Oliver which he was worried about because it was spendy (and my daughter is not someone you would necessarily want to spend $85 on a hair cut for). Totally worth it. My daughter has a tangle of loose curls and it's literally the first cut she ever had that doesn't look like it barely made a dent in the mayhem. One of the biggest challenges of moving is having to find a new stylist. Are you going to find one that you like? Are you going to find one that can work with you to get the cut right? Is a decent visit going to cost you more than your first month's rent? Normally, it takes several failed attempts before I even find a salon I can stand making a second appointment with but I have to say, Jason and Studio Oliver kind of blew my mind with how well they got it right, right off the bat. First of all, Studio Oliver makes it a point of pride that it's a great salon without the drama and attitude. It's about the hair, its about the people and its about style - all without the pretension. Second, and probably more importantly, let's talk Jason. They guy is incredible at listening to you and translating that into a distinct style. If you're on the fence about changing styles or going a little bolder, just trust him. WORST salon ever! Not professional at all! I felt mentally and physically VIOLATED by the constant groping/touching from my (straight male) hair dresser, & by his lewd-sexually charged comments, and his sexual innuendos and insinuations. I wanted a hair cut, not a date or a hook-up!! Not to mention the floor manager was getting her CROTCH rubbed while she was cutting her male client's hair (next to me)! I've never experienced this type of behavior at a Bumble&Bumble salon - or anywhere for that matter! Plus, I brought in a handful of pictures as to how I want my hair cut/styled since I have never been before and my hair dresser (Jason) didn't understand how to do a simple "Indie" hair cut. It's quite obvious if you read any of my reviews that I do an awful lot of 1) traveling and 2) getting my hair done. That makes for a lot of going to salons in the cities that I visit. Most are salons that I've been going to for a very long time and so I give them a great review, they've been good to me. This salon stands alone in that I've never been here and I happened upon an incredible find. Called and needed a last minute appointment to get my hair done before going down to rural Georgia where there aren't stylists for miles around. I hyperventilate just thinking about it. I think maybe they could hear the desperation in my voice so they told me to come down (at almost closing) and get a blow out. They also had a special going and said I could use it! Wow! Walked in and was immediately introduced to Jason and asked if I wanted a glass of wine (well, of course, thank you!). He's very, very personable, I mean, really likeable. I instantly felt like my hair was going to look fabulous. He sat me down and I saw immediately that they only carried the best products: Oribe, Moroccan Oil, Bumble and Bumble, and was even more reassured. Jason picked out the best shampoo for my hair and he was right. It turned out shiny and beautiful. Sometimes salons don't care what they put in your hair; they just use whatever is cheapest and they have the most of. Not here! Loved that so much and felt instantly taken care of. So, Jason washes my hair and then gives me the best scalp massage I have ever had in my life. After the week I'd had it was the best thing ever. I was so happy to have found this place and Jason. He is magic! The owner, Oliver, also took time out of his day to come over and say hello. What a nice touch! So, sat down after that and he took a LOT of time to make sure my hair was perfect. Even when I, in my control freak mode, pointed out things he patiently told me to wait, he'd get to that. And he did! I seriously do not know when the last time my hair looked and smelled this fabulous. I mean, seriously. I've been coming to Studio Oliver since Sloan was a trainee...several years...and Sloan has been cutting my hair throughout. For the price, the stylists at Oliver are fantastic, and there is constant professional praise heaped on the salon for their talent. Oliver is damn good at what he does, and his protege Sloan follows his lead. One thing to note at Studio Oliver is that they have close, informal relationships with many of their clients...hugs are frequently exchanged, and I think flirting skills may be on the job application for the stylists. Its all harmless fun, and while the innuendos fly and some of the jokes the stylists tell may be a little risque, there are clear lines that do not get crossed, and the end product is a great haircut in a fun, lively environment. Ummm, and Sloan was so excited today she high-fived me because the Hadron collider set a new world record for energetic particle collisions...full time stylist, part-time particle physics nerd! Another thing to note is the massage service. At first I was like...umm...really, where? But the room in back is isolated, and they've set up a very calming, relaxed environment. I'm totally addicted to Zoe's massages, and I buy in bulk (buy 4, get the 5th free). She is a very professional Englishwoman, stiff-upper lip, lets get down to business, and is very good about finding and working out problem spots. I decided that I needed change and on the recommendation from a friend, I decided to check out Studio Oliver. My experience with Studio Oliver was excellent the moment I walked in the door. The salon was cute and they not only offer haircuts but massages as well. Everyone seemed to look like they were having fun working there and talking to their clients. In addition, I'm a huge fan of Bumble and Bumble products and I was very happy that they use it here! I got my haircut from Oliver himself. Great guy with lots of amazing stories about his time in New York City and opening up the salon in Midtown back when Midtown was not the best area to live or do business in. Plus, I enjoy having a stylist that can just look at my hair and already know what they want to do with it! After I decided to cut down almost 7 inches of my long hair, it took some serious research on Yelp and everywhere else to find a reliable place to go to. After narrowing it down to three salons, I decided I'll give this one a shot as it was the closest my place. I had an appointment set up with Jason, and told him what I was looking for. In the end I got what I expected and ended up having a good hair day almost every day since then, and it's been 2 months. They use Bumble & Bumble products and the stylists take time to understand the look you're planning to go for. It was a great experience overall, and I love how the hair feels. Definitely 5-star. I got the $30 deal from Yelp, and they listed the haircut price as $45. When I was done and went to pay they said it was $55 for new customers. It would have been better if they listed this on their site. read more

I am a big fan of Studio Oliver. It is pricey in my opinion (costs me $35 dollars for a male haircut), but I do like the stylist and the atmosphere there is nice. Most of the stylists are very silly. I am a silly person so it makes me happy that the place is not stuffy and uber "professional" like some other salons. But, the product (hair cut, shampoo, style) that I get is absolutely professional and worth the money in my opinion. Jason always takes the time to listen to exactly how I want my haircut, and always asks ensures that I am pleased. Some of the behaviour of the staff might irk some really straight edge people (I have seen some sexual innuendos, very silly behaviour, lots of joking around, etc.) But I love it and it makes me feel like I am in a comfortable and friendly environment. I do not want to go to a stuffy environment to get my hair done, as I have to deal with that from 8am to 5pm at the office every day! I recommend Studio Oliver. read more

I will try to make this review make a little bit of sense. Truth is, I'm still so excited about what Nick did to me I can't even think straight. I'm from Chicago and was in Atlanta for a long weekend (Wedding). I had zero recommendations from anyone so yelped a salon near my hotel and took a chance. I just wanted a blowdry and makeup. I didn't want or need to be the most done up person at this wedding. I just didn't feel like dealing with any of this myself. Nick knew exactly what I was talking about. He was an absolute pleasure to be around for the morning. He did a great job on my hair. I actually didn't wash it for 4 days because I couldn't stand the thought of washing away his work. It was amazing! The makeup was even better. Just trust him on the makeup. Don't be one of those people that "doesn't want to wear makeup". You probably need it. Just wear it and enjoy all of the compliments. I'm not even joking when I say this. I'm considering flying from Chicago to Atlanta just to have my hair done by Nick again! I recently moved back to Atlanta, and a friend recommended this studio to me after getting her hair cut there when visiting me. I loved the whole experience, and I actually can't wait until I need to get my hair cut again. Before we get too far, let me be clear that this is a review for a basic women's wash and razor cut. I don't do anything fancy with my hair, and my cut isn't complicated. I travel a lot, so I make sure whoever cuts my hair knows that it has to look good without a lot of products, and that I don't spend much time on my hair. The guy who had cut my friend's hair had recently left, so I ended up with Slone. She was awesome! Super fun to talk to during the hair cut, and a little crazy too. I always get my hair cut on Friday evenings (I find it very relaxing at the end of the week, and then I don't have to do my hair for the evening), so the complimentary glass of wine was much appreciated. I really enjoyed the overall feeling of community in the salon, everyone seemed to really enjoy working there and talking with each other. The products were all top notch, and I love how my cut has held up. Final bonus: the cuts weren't very expensive! Women's haircuts can be ridiculously expensive, but everything here seemed very reasonable. read more

I needed a haircut before my cousin's wedding in Atlanta, so I booked a same day appointment at Studio Oliver. The space itself is in a cool older building in a great part of midtown. I went in the wrong door and sat down in the back because I'm dumb, and someone gently directed me toward the front. My stylist Felicia was friendly, smart, and professional. She gave me a great haircut and a free beer. She asked all the right questions, took her time, and got everything right that I wanted. Despite some serious visual focus on the details of my haircut, she was fun to talk to and made me feel comfortable. Trendy, upscale, goofy/laid back atmosphere, affordable (my cut was $25) and super friendly. If I ever need another haircut in Atlanta I'll be back. update: Came back again when I was in town for a business meeting. Had an Irish skinhead cut my hair and he did a great job. Free beer again. I loved my experience at Studio Oliver today! I was in Atlanta for a video shoot (I don't live here) and picked Studio Oliver because it was well-priced and looked like a lovely spot. I lucked out! Katie gave me a luxurious wash/conditioning treatment, trimmed up my long layers without sacrificing the length (just as I asked her to), I got to enjoy a fresh cup of french press coffee (I'm such a coffee snob, so this was really great) and she styled my hair beautifully for the shoot. My wife has been going to see Nick Archer for a couple of years now. He did my wifes makeup and hair for our wedding day, Nick did a amazing job at transforming my wife into a 50's pin-up girl, not only did he do her hair and makeup but also the makeup of her two best friends. They all looked beautiful, but yeah...my wife was definitely the hottest one of the bunch. I think Nick specializes in 50's hairstyles, Liberty Rolls etc, and I could tell he has a passion for what he does. As for the studio...I have been there for a cut by Nick once, it was a few days before our wedding and then a complimentary tidy up the day before the wedding itself. I enjoyed the atmosphere and was made to feel at home, free drinks, nice staff and so on. The haircut Nick gave me was awesome, I usually do it myself but as it was a important occasion I thought Id get something special. For the time he spent cutting it, the quality of the cut and the hospitality I received whilst there it was well worth the money and considerably cheap compared to what Ive paid in an all mens Barber Shop on Lindbergh, and all I got there was a sub-standard haircut, no hospitality and a fat bill when it was finished. Since I last visited Studio Oliver has extended the Studio and built an extra section in the back. My wife still visits every 6-8 weeks for haircut and color and always gets a good deal for the quality of work. She also uses his styling and makeup skills for special occasions such as friends weddings and stuff. People are always complimenting on her hair and how good she looks. Overall, Studio Oliver is a great place to go for your styling, hair dressing or makeup needs and I highly recommend them. read more

I was recommended Studio Oliver by a friend of mine who always has amazing hair, so when I saw a scout mob deal for 50% off I had to give it a try. As someone who has tried out a lot of salons in Atlanta, I would definitely recommend Studio Oliver to based on the quality of service and price. The salon is pretty quaint and tucked away compared to a lot of salons I've been to previously, but I definitely prefer the relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere. I was able to walk in and get started with Heidi immediately. I'm probably every hairdressers worst nightmare since I never know what I want, but Heidi was somehow able to somehow able to make changes that I really liked. She cleaned up some layers that were looking pretty mushroom-y and added bangs. Also, Heidi did a great job of answering all of my questions and giving advice on how to style my hair. Since then I've received lots of compliments from my friends, even after washing and drying my hair myself (significant because I'm terrible at styling). Even my boyfriend, who normally doesn't notice a big change, has told me several times how much he likes my hair. The biggest difference for me, though, was the price. I'm used to paying around $100 or so for a haircut, twice as much even without the 50% discount. With the scout mob deal, it was only $22.50. Given the quality of cut is on par with a few of my favorite past haircuts, I would call that a win. Overall, I'm really happy with the service I received from Studio Oliver, and even happier about the price. I'll definitely be back again. read more

Studio Oliver is clean, has surprisingly comfortable shampoo bowls, maintains a staff for years, and is located centrally with an easy parking situation. Heidi Lee Oley is a wonderful colorist. She nailed the color I was seeking the first time, took copious notes about the unique formulation, and is able to recreate the result beautifully and seamlessly. Well my boyfriend and I both get are hair cut and styled here and we love it! I go to Slone and he goes to Nick, and we love it. Its a really layed back, enviroment where they know you by your first name, their prices are great and they give you very personal treatment. At first they get to know you, they offer you beer and wine or coffee and they become your friends. My boyfriend loved that, he could walk to it, he got a great haircut under 30$ and he got to drink beer for free! its a mans paradise. My stylist Slone, is ultra hip and is ontop of the newest styles,not to mention she is super pretty and Nick has done wonders with my boyfriends hair, his whole family thanks me for finding Nick. Nick is a star! I tried Studio Oliver at the recommendation of multiple friends and I couldn't be happier. Since I moved to Atlanta I've had an appointment for a haircut with Nick every 8 weeks. He's great with long hair - he always cuts just enough to clean and shape it up but never gets crazy with the scissors, like I've experienced elsewhere. I also love the products he's recommended - the Bb styling lotion and brilliantine have made it so easy for me to style like a pro at home! Nick recently did my hair and makeup for a wedding and I felt like a movie star. I got so many compliments! The makeup was natural but glamourous and it lasted until the wee hours of the night and looked fantastic in photos. The only downside is that now I want him to do my makeup every day. Sloane is a spray tan goddess. She can even make me look like I have abs!! I have been going to Studio Oliver for nearly a decade and have loved the salon since the first day that I stepped foot in the door. I started going to Oliver in 2004 when I had had several bad experiences at other salons in Atlanta. I am a blond with highlights. Oliver won me over on my first visit by sitting with me and talking through my thoughts on the type of color and cut that I wanted. I will never forget his line, "so you want more sunkissed and less lightning struck" when discussing what I didn't like about one of the other salons I tried and how to fix it. Each time I come to get my hair done I feel like I've had my own mini-retreat for the day. I come away feeling relaxed, refreshed, and much better looking thanks to the new 'do! Here is the nitty-gritty: 1. I have seen people with every different cut, color, style, and ethnicity come through this salon over the years and each time I see them leave with a smile. These guys know their stuff. 2. As a habitual person, I may have stuck with a similar haircut for a LONG time. Oliver is good about staying within your comfort zone, but suggesting slight changes to improve your look over time. 3. Most important - when I moved away from Atlanta for several years, one of my first stops (first weekend back!) when I returned was at Studio Oliver. This place is great!! read more

I waited 3 weeks after my haircut to write a review. Oliver did a great job with my haircut and balayage color. I have very dark, wavy hair, and am always nervous when going to a new colorist. He blended the colors very well, and the haircut is suited to my curls perfectly. I recommend this studio highly! Excuse me if I gush over this place. When I moved to Atlanta, finding a new salon was a top priority and I thought it would be an exhausting hunt. A co-worker recommended Studio Oliver. I called and got right in with Nick. I'm not the kind of girl that is super nervous about her hair but I was nervous about a new stylist and new salon. The salon was modern, clean and fun. I was afraid that I wouldn't fit in with "trendy folk" but Nick made me feel extremely welcomed as did the other stylists and receptionist. So before I get into why this salon gets a 5, I'll tell you why it almost got a 2!! Yep, that's a huge jump! So, as the previous reviewer said, the ego does come for free, at least Nick's does! I called to inform them, that I will be 10 Minutes late. Exactly 10 mins later I walk in and Nick, immediately is like well I can't take you, you are late! (In my head: But it's only 10 minutes and I mentioned I would be!) anyways, so I sit in his chair and he's like 'what do you want', I tell him and he's like well 'what do you want'.. (I just told you what I want, how I want it, at the end of the day you are supposed to be the creative stylist! How hard is it to understand a color I'm showing you on the swatch you have and tell you how I want my foils). So we move on from that, then he starts to yank, yes I meant that, YANK!! my hair with each foil he placed. So I asked, can you please be a bit gentle, and he's like, 'I'm trying to get to your roots'... Ehhh, it's hair, you don't need to yank it to get to the roots!! Am I right?!? He continued to pull my hair so hard that I thought my already thin hair would break and fall! At the end of the day, Nick is rude, unprofessional, and definitely did not do my color as I wanted him to! All of the sudden, my next stylist walks in and greets me ever so pleasantly! (Jason, who is supposed to do my cut)... Thank god! Someone with a better attitude! He just was very pleasant to speak to and be greeted by! So let's just say, that Jason made up for Nick's horrible attitude! Jason cut my hair fabulous! And then he fixes Nick's job! So I come in a few days later to fix my color and Jason is ever so sweet to do it! Jason sat with me understood exactly what I wanted (same way I said it to nick), but he got it! Looking for the right hair person is like looking for true love. We've all had traumatizing experiences. For example, my worst haircut was in Shanghai when the bald stylist (should have been a red flag) gave me a Chinese mullet crossed with an American rat tail. I was single for a while after that. Jaded. I had only been in one long term stylist relationship, which lasted almost 11 years. Things were good, but I feel like we plateaud. Then I found out my best friend (see Jessica J's review) and fiancé both went to the same hairdresser at Studio Oliver. Complete coincidence. So, obviously, I had to find out for myself what the fuss was about. And that's when Nick entered my life. Hilarious, non-forced conversation? Wine while I'm getting my haircut? I'm in heaven. My haircut looked incredible, and at $55 plus tip, it didn't cost an arm and a leg. DON'T LEAVE ME. Moving away? I CAN DO LONG DISTANCE. Please don't make me find another hair person again. Please.
