In most used bookstores, it's usually a hunt to find something interesting. The shelves will be mostly filled with very common books or niche (or extremely niche) books of narrow interest (e.g., catalogues of small art museums from the 1970s). That's what people bring in to sell, and that's fair enough. Usually, I can find one or two interesting things, but sometimes nothing stands out. At a big store like the Strand in New York, there's enough volume that you can always find something, but small bookshops are harder. I've been to this shop twice and both times ended up finding 5 or 6 interesting things within ten minutes and then stopping in order to not go overboard. For me, they have a mix of books that I've heard of and was interested in but never got around to, books I didn't know about from writers I like, or books on topics that interest me but I'd never encountered before. My wife came with me last time, and she has different interests and tastes but also found several things she wanted, all of it at a good price. I don't know how they source and curate, but it's working. Check them out.

Mind where you walk and sit, many books are haphazardly piled in aisles and against shelves so you will have to move items, lamps etc in sections of the shop. Something to note: if you are sensitive to dust or mold or respiratory challenged, you may want to limit your visit. Old books, too many piles to clean around and strong incense equals poor air quality.

I'm writing this review based on an experience that I had here trying to ship a package via fedex…read moreground. They are listed on the fedex website as an authorized shipping center for express or ground shipping and are substantially closer to my apartment than the fedex kinkos on southport. I decided to give it a try. To make a long story short, they didn't seem to know that you need a different form for fedex air and ground, and insisted that if I just wrote "ground" on the box and the airbill form, everything would be ok. They also didn't give me any receipts or scan anything or give me a total cost (even though I was billing to the recipient). Later that night, I looked online and the tracking # hadn't been entered into the system. I ended up calling fedex customer service, who told me that the ground driver wouldn't have taken the package with the incorrect slip. But, Homnay never called to tell me this. I called them the next morning and they confirmed that, shockingly, we had used the wrong form and could I come over and fill out the correct form. I went over there, and she explained that it was the wrong form, but then wanted to try sending it with that form again! I wasn't up for another round of this game, so I took my package to the fedex kinkos, where I was able to fill out the correct form, get a receipt, and see something entered into the computer before my very eyes! They seemed nice at this location but really don't know what they're doing. I emailed fedex to express my concerns, but really, don't waste your time trying to send anything from here that you actually want to be delivered.

I had bought a tow bar from Roy Rodgers Parts from Little Rock, Arkansas, they used FedEx Ground to…read moreship it. The tow bar never came, after several phone calls to Roy Rogers Parts as well to FedEx. FedEx stated that it was delivered and when they gave me the address it was the wrong address. So informed them they had the wrong address, there response was it was delivered and that was it. There was nothing else they where going to do about it I was told on the phone. So they never corrected there error I never got my tow bar. As for Roy Rodgers Parts they where no better at helping me fix there mistakes. So I'm out $250 but FedEx and Roy Rogers Parts got my money and I got the finger from both. So Beware if you are shipping or getting something from FedEx it may never get there or show up.

It's a lovely and bright space and feels very welcoming. If they don't have something you're looking for, they can order it and have it for you quickly, usually within a few days. They encourage discussion and learning, and host wonderful author events, book groups, story times, and much more. Very thoughtful and curated selections at reasonable prices. Excellent customer service and positive vibes all around.

My husband and I happened to find this bookstore randomly while out shopping. I will say this is…read morenot the store for you if you need a Barnes and Noble type experience. Some sections are alphabetized, some not (there is a color-coded guide to which are which). Books also are not priced; the owner uses Abebooks.com to look up the price online (but this led to the surprise of one trade paperback book I brought up being $50! I let that one go...) But if you want to spend hours browsing for new treasures, this is the kind of shop for you. Go in with an adventurous spirit and you will surely find something! Accessibility is rather challenging: aisles are narrow, and a good portion of the store is downstairs, where I had to shuffle sideways with my cane while also trying not to hit my head on the low ceiling. Even on the ground level, shelves stretch very high and books go to the floor. So you may need assistance reaching something.
