Larry's has been providing a service to a underserved community for years. Like most things, change is required to maintain a certain level of service and quality. When you enter this small store the smell knocks you back outside. The smell of bad meat is overwhelming. The meat looks okay but the awful smell makes me go elsewhere to shop. Sorry Larry's this was not just a one off. I've spoken with a number of long time Raleigh residents and they echo the same. The smell is terrible. Southeast Raleigh is not the food desert that is once was. People have a choice when spending there money. Please fix whatever the problem is. We'd hate to see you go. I've shopped with Larry's for about 10 years. Today I visited the location to purchase a beef chuck roast and turkey wings. I wanted to purchase a roast that was 5 or more pounds, I usually purchase a large roast. I asked the butcher if he would cut one. I was told that they only cut meat once and to purchase what was already cut. I explained that the usual butcher would cut the roast. He then tried to sell what was already there. I declined and asked for management. The manager seemed lackluster to respond. I decided to just leave and not return. One customer lost to lack of customer service. read more

Great pricing on the meats such as beef, pork and chicken. This a great old fashioned butcher! Some produce and grocery items. Neighborhood shop!. Note, it very much smells like a butcher shop since the butchers cut the meat in front of you rather than in another room like the chain grocery stores. They have hoop cheese that is incredible. If you like Ribeyes, have them cut you a long rib roast instead of cutting it to steaks...that is my family Christmas treat! They also often have fresh shelled peas, country ham and many other treats. This is a good place to get old fashioned candy and I love buying big bags of chocolates peanuts and mailing them to my family members. They post their specials in the window on butcher paper so you know what to grab...the butcher shop smell will have you in and out quick if you're not used to it. I love coming here for my turkey chops. Usually I can't find them at Food Lion or Walmart but Larry's keeps them in stock year round!

Okay..... So I've been going to this place for years.... Off and on, but this time. I'm particularly put off. So.......yesterday, I was telling a co-worker about this place, so she could save herself some money, time, and traveling to get some things she needed, and not have to wait to go somewhere else that would only be open when she would be able to get there, the next morning. When we got to Larry's, she was super happy about the prices and the product. She stated, she was as happy as a kid in a candy store..... I was happy to be able to help, as she was preparing for a birthday cookout and could use the evening cooking, now, instead if having to wait till the morning to get what she now already had. My only problem, now is,.....we get to the register, and the same old white woman, who has been there for years, is still there, working the register, and she is spouting the same, old fashioned, racially insulting, but purely Lily white, southern, 'Oh, I didn't realize that what I'm saying is insulting', Wink, wink, bullshit, she always has... Now this store is set dead in the center of a historically African-American neighborhood, where most of the neighbors are older, politically outspoken, citizens....Why does this woman feel justified in continually trying to passively insult the company's younger Black customers, who she thinks is ignorant of her racial insults? Does she really know who she's talking to? Obviously not!!! read more

So I drove to Larry's on Monday 5/16 because of the good reviews on the internet. I was there to purchase some Ribeyes. Most of the packs looked poorly marbled. The packages are not marked as to the grade (which they should be), however they are very clearly not choice. I would call these select at best. I bought 3 packs of the more marbled Ribeyes and took them home. Upon opening the 1st pack they had a very strong smell. I know that can happen sometimes, so I rubbed some seasoning on them and put them in a sealed container in the fridge. When I went back for them, the steaks were turning brown and smelled worse than the day before. I knew they wouldn't kill me, so I cooked them anyways, 2 1/2 minutes each side. They were the worst Ribeyes I have ever eaten. Tonight I am going to cook up the remaining steaks for the dogs. They are not fit for human consumption. Short Version-$6.99/Lb for old, poor quality Ribeyes, not worth eating. read more

Larry's is a great place to get that special meat or vegetable not found in other grocery stores. many people from northern cities put coming to Larry's on their bucket list of must do things upon visiting Raleigh. they load up on meats made county style, and come back again and again for more. The staff is so helpful and friendly. Larry's is a vital part of the make up of Raleigh. he travels throughout the Carolinas bringing back the best of the south. this is a must do experience for all the Raleigh residents. if you want that country seasoning, flavor for good cooking then Larry's is the place. read more
