Definitely sit at the bar if there is room so you can see everything being cooked right in front of you! Things to note! 1) NO ENGLISH. You can probably get by without it, but some questions we had like "what are the vampire tacos" never got answered. 2) Don't get the avocado! I was expecting slices not guac, and this overpowered the taste. 3) Use the lime, the salt, and get some spicy sauce. This spot is delicious. A whole alley of taco stands serving up delicious food. The charcoal that they use to grill up the menu items gives the food a distinct flavor. Just be prepared for your clothes to smell like you just went to a bonfire afterwards. But totally worth the trip. read more

Well, all I can say is Anthony Bourdain came here and loved it. If it's good enough for him it's good enough with me. If you're craving a real deal street taco experience without the fear of contracting cholera, this is your place. You have tons of options here, it's essentially a street full of authentic taco vendors, pure heaven if you ask me... I have tried all of the vendors in here, and honestly they all taste the same and they all cost the same. Which is awesome! These are yummy tacos! I got a lengua and a adobada taco. Get the lengua, I know you're scared of oregon meats or whatever (just do it!). Lengua is kinda like pot roast meat. The adobada was really good, it was crispy and juicy, and good stuff like that lol. I came with a group and the samurai taco looked interesting. The samurai taco is a a hard taco. The taco is 17 pesos which is only $1.01 I think. The samurai taco is 20 pesos though. To drink I got jaimaca and that was good. One of the people in my group said Anthony Bourdain was here. Also one of the people in my group got a torta, they said it had too much bread. They put a lot of guacamole on the tacos, it seemed liked they put more guacamole on the adobada than the lengua. They put leeks and radishes on the table. I prefer the leeks, except when it's a boat because I don't want a leaky boat. I am glad this place isn't near my house because I would probably weigh over 200 lbs. I would go all the time. This is where the locals eat. I go to the place right in the corner. I think this a piece of heaven on earth. It is so good. The guacamole is on point. The meat grilled and has a smoky flavor and it moist. The tortillas are handmade. There is no beer at this place. I have seen people purchase liquor at the little store in the corner and bring it in. They just put it in a white cup and drink it from there. The staff is very friendly. They are very hospitable. Really really really delicious tacos. Can't actually say really enough. Because these tacos are everything. And at just over $1/taco (the lengua taco was 2 maybe), you can eat as many as you want. So... I went at lunch on a Saturday. I don't know if they have busy times, but there were a few spots available, so I wouldn't have complained. A couple stalls were more full than others but they all looked and smelled deliciously inviting... And even the full ones definitely tried to to get us to come easy there. We chose a quiet one because we wanted to sit right up front, and the guy making them was really nice about my bad college Spanish. And those are good, don't get me wrong, but you also have to pay homage to tradition, and this place is tradition. A row of taco joints, all with a few seats around the grill. I had to try this place when on a day of taco hunting as it is so famous. I actually really liked it. I had a taco adobaba which was loaded for a ton of meat for 27 pesos with all the works. It was tasty and very freshly cooked.....but I have had tastier al pastor in the bay area. There wasn't too much grizzle but there were some unwanted pieces that had to be spit out. I also tried the flour tortilla quesadilla with carne asada and it was really good and again tons of meat but a fair amount of uneatable grizzle. However, let's make it clear that considering all the meat they give you and the price you live with it and enjoy the moment as it is a pretty cool venue itself the way it is laid out and works. read more

I took an uber here with a few friends from the border. They have the best tacos I've had so far in TJ. They were not shy with their portions. I had the combination of adobada and Carne asada tacos. The meats were marinated very well. The prices are very reasonable and you will definitely get your money's worth here. I can't wait to go back to this place next time I'm in TJ. read more

First stop on our UYE Journey to Puerto Nuevo was Taco Alley in Tijuana. This place is apparently open 24 hours a day which is pretty awesome for street tacos that average $1 USD. Anthony Bourdain even ate here when he was filming No Reservations http://www.travelchannel.com/shows/anthony-bourdain/video/relive-baja-with-tony. That was good enough for me. The staff only speaks Spanish so you're going to have to know what you want and make sure you get their attention. When you're ready to pay, let them know what you ordered so they can charge you accordingly. They don't have chicken on their vast menu but if you ask for "pollo" they have it. I had three tacos: asada (18 Mex$), adobada (18 Mex$), and samurai (20 Mex$). All the tacos came out with heaping amounts of guacamole. If you don't like avocado, then you need to tell them no guacamole or you'll be sorry. They also have a variety of salsas for you if you ask. They brought out three different ones for us to try with various stages of heat. My favorite taco was the adobada or al pastor which had a slight char to it and it was juicy. Loved the flavors. Definitely worth the trip just for these tacos alone. This place is legit and I would definitely want to come back here if I were visiting TJ again. read more

I started coming here because my mom, aunts, uncles and grandparents have been coming here since Las Ahumaderas opened. I wanted to be able to see what they enjoyed growing up. OMG! Brought my Mexican girlfriend here for tacos and she was blown away! She called it "taco boulevard". Lol! She had 3 and I had 4 tacos. I could eat tacos there all day. They need beer, but you can bring your own. I was there once before and one of the workers went and got the beer for me! Where can you get service like that north of the border?
