4 stars for the environment! I went with my family after the zoo on a Sunday evening and it was lovely. They have a live band and the music was very enjoyable. I do have to warn you though, it's LOUD. My young son made it through, but I would be willing to say most won't. You definitely can't talk. So what I'm really saying is don't bring young kids if they don't like loud music. Come with friends, as a date night, or with older kids. It's great for groups, they have plenty of seating for large parties. The food and the margs hit the spot. I got my usual, huevos rancheros, and it was spot on. Classic as can be. The marg came in a fun glass too! It was melted to the side (on purpose). My son loved the tacos and my hubby enjoyed a burrito. The menu has plenty of options so there is something for everything! So this place has been around for years. It has gone upgrades and downgrades. This last time we went after the zoo. We knew it stay open late. Kitchen does closes at 10pm. They had karaoke that night so it was very interesting. Everyone seem to enjoy their meals and the service was good. I'm glad we didn't get the blonde king hair server as she was so rude. I was looking for our server and I waved her down so she could please heel me find ours and she looked at me and rolled her eyes, ok? I've been a server before and overall it's about the customer and also team work. I wouldn't want to be her coworker either. Food? I order the agua chiles because here is the only place I seem to find them and this time they disappointed me. They were tasteless and even my kids ate the orange and cucumbers that come with them and they were touching the sauce (3 and 1.5 year olds) as the spice was missing. They also didn't have enough lime juice as they didn't cook as they should. I also ordered the "al carbon" burrito with Al pastor and I thought it was tasted good but it was filled with more beans and the sauce than meat. Ok, so I went in and ordered a kids bean, rice and cheese burrito to go. I told the lady I just want beans rice and cheese and if I have to just order a regular burrito that was fine. I went to my car. I got a meal that looked like an enchilada with rice and beans on the side. Went back inside and re ordered. They brought me another enchilada looking items but it was double in size with queen poured all over it. I tried to explain to the guy that I just want a burrito with beans rice and cheese. No sauce poured on it I left with no food and $10 less in my pocket. Also I tried the the first kids enchilada and it wasn't good. I was considering not returning it but once I tasted it. My only complaint would be that the tacos were a little dry not gonna lie so it was eh the rice and beans were very good loved it the ceviche was super good not too salty and didn't taste like any thing was too overpowering the salsa they bring with chips at first was actually really good not super spicy but a good taste ! Got up this morning thinking we'd have a good meal , turns out we got our food cold they took it back to heat it up but when we got our plate again it was still cold , beans were COLD , we asked for a hamburger for my little brother and we literally got it before we were leaving. Good orchata l- which ended up being my dessert. The vibe: For starters I was the only gringo there. And Saturday nights must be nights for live music (dont count me on that) because there was live music playing tonight. So to give credit to whomever said "it felt like I was in mexico" ....i could see how you could say that. First of all, they need to teach their VERY young staff that a landline phone must be placed back on the receiver before a takeout order can be placed. I called repeatedly for over 20 minutes and the phone was off the hook the whole time. I went down to the restaurant to place my order in person and to advise them of the phone problem. The boy behind the counter looked at me as if I were crazy. I placed my order of a chimichanga with no rice and extra beans. Well, I got lots of rice and NO beans. My wife myself and my son are frequent customers of las cazuelas. It is a Latino owned and operated business, and communication can be tough on occasion, but the environment, the food, and the experience in general are well worth any minor issues (with my minimal high school Spanish we get by) when it comes to communications. I noticed a lot of white people rating them poorly on yelp; yet when we dine in regularly it is full of Latino families, enjoying their food and having a wonderful time. It's seems some folks want 'their version of Mexican' not actual Latino dishes. If you want to experience a taste of Latino culture, and some awesome food in the process, this is a can't miss favorite of locals. read more

Was craving Mexican food so we popped in Las Cazuelas as this was our first timea and it was close by. As we walked in we felt we were in Mexico as the decor was Cancun regurgitated. Our server was excellent. She came to our table with smiles, knowledge, and a willingness to accommodate. While there were very few vegetarian dishes on the menu, she stated that they would accommodate us as much as possible. We ordered our dishes and snacked on the chips and salsa. Our meals (I ordered a veggie burrito) came fairly quickly. Inside was a smorgasbord of veggies topped with a tomatillo sauce. Delicious. Our server checked on us numerous times to ensure all was good and that our water glasses remained full. The only reason for a 4 instead of a 5 was because my husband felt his meal was more of a 3.5; mine was a 5 so law of averages, ya know. This restaurant was the nastiest place I ever went. The service was slow, it was too loud to talk, I placed my order and it was going to be 30 minutes(nothing complimentary was offered). I got a order went home, and it wasn't even what I ordered. I took it back and they gave me another order. Got home and it wasn't what I ordered. The guacamole looked old and runny. Pretty good Mexican food- I am sorta a snob and think one of my first meals in California was Mexican- First off - prior reviews mentioned the service. Actually, I found our server- Araceli- quite attentive. Our food was delivered promptly and hot. Margaritas just ok- syrupy but not bad. The fajitas were good- lots of steak onions and peppers. The flavor of the steak was good albeit it a bit tough. I am a guacamole snob and that was the downfall- overripe avocados? Old guac? Either way not so good. Would I come back? The food is quite good. The best caldo de res (my husband swears) and the best flan (I swear) in town. They have horchata. I have to mention that because many Mexican restaurants don't have it (weird, I know). The only bad thing in here is service. And they don't have hot tea. They also have mexican ranchera music playing and karaoke on week end nights. I hate that, so I avoid coming at that time. By the way, caldo de res is on week ends only. This restaurant has a lot of potential. The interior is vibrant, the bar is open, and there is a salsa bar. The food is ok, and could use some freshening up in order to properly compete with the food standard in Nashville, but not bad. They also need to get rid of the pictures in the menu. Where this restaurant needs SERIOUS help is in service. It takes a long time to get a server, longer to order, good luck on a refill without getting someone's attention, bill tried to charge be $18 bucks for carnitas that are listed for $13, etc. I'm sure that gathering in the corner texting while most people had empty glasses is a greater use of time. Fajitas came out for 6 of our people. No plates. No condiments. The family of 6 was passing a bite at a time of meat to each kid. However tables of new customers around us were promptly being served. We tried this place on a whim - we were hungry and stuck in traffic on Nolensville. My wife used her phone to find nearby places, and this one mentioned oysters/seafood on the Google entry so we went in (she doesn't like Americanized Mexican). So glad we did! There were a number of people there on a Thursday around 6:00 - probably 10 other tables. The outside definitely looks run-down and sketchy, but it's much nicer inside, and bigger than you'd expect. Food was delicious. I had one of the specials, a seafood platter - a ton of food and all of it perfectly cooked. My wife had sopa de mariscos, which was outstanding. Different types of whitefish, oysters, imitation crab and a crab leg in a flavorful broth. Standard chips and salsa come with the meal. They did have oysters on the half shell, but we didn't get them - this time. Will definitely go back. read more

I realize that I am in the minority of at least my friends in how I feel about this place. I know a lot of people really like it. I think it is lackluster and the food is bland at best. The prices aren't even cheap, but the quality tastes cheap to me. The only thing halfway decent I've tried here is the shrimp tostada, which was alright, but definitely overpriced for its size. With all of the choices for Mexican food along Nolensville Road, and basing this off of the ridiculous amount of Mexican restaurants I frequent in order to fulfill my south-of-the-border cravings, I'm led to knock two stars off of my Laz Cazuelas experience due to things I should be able to expect: -1 star: Above average prices. One of the best things about Mexican food is how affordable it is. If you're going to charge more, you better be making something special that sets you apart. While your steak with verde salsa dish ($13) was delicious, canned refried beans and bland rice do not justify the cost. -2 stars: Terrible service. Not friendly, not attentive, and apparently not fond of giving refills or delivering the check less than 10 minutes after the meal is finished. There were at least 4 servers working and only about 10 tables filled in the whole restaurant, so I don't think I'm being unreasonable with my expectation of something resembling courtesy. BUT I'll give one on those stars back for having above average salsa and a diverse menu including more traditional dishes. Would I go back? Maybe, but probably only for lunch. read more

Ok, I'll admit - I was scared to try this place. It looks SKETCHY from the outside. I wanted to turn around and go - and almost did. My friends convinced me to give it a try. I did and - I have to say - I'm fairly impressed. The service was great, the food was excellent and the salsa had just the right amount of heat and chunkiness (I hate overly chunky or too smooth - it was just right). When we arrived they put together a table for us (there were 6 of us) very quickly and brought us Chips and Salsa, Pistachios and Peanuts. I thought the pistachios and peanuts were odd to bring out - but, we ate them up! I ended up getting the beef chimichanga with rice and refried beans. It was very good - one of the better chimi's I've had in a while, actually. The Margaritas were also very good! I mean, if you are going to have Mexican food - you have to have a margarita with the meal, right? All in all - I was pleasantly surprised that the inside didn't match the outside and the food was very, very good. Moving from the land of tacos (San Diego) to Nashville was like loosing a piece of my soul. For the first time in my young life I realized that not everyone has a delicious taco shop within walking distance of their home, work, school, salon, dentist, grocery store, gas station, hardware store... Finding Las Cazuelas was like stealing a small piece of my sad, lost soul back. I'm not big on Mexican food so this may or may not be a big help..;( The Good: From the outside appearance you can't tell how big or small this establishment is, its a pretty good size equipped with a karaoke stage, and two bars with other TVs scattered throughout the joint. Plenty of room to seat any size party you have. Now as for the food I must say i enjoyed it! I had fajitas(chicken) which came on a very hot plate like it should with rice & beans. Sweet tea was made just like most black folks like it..sweet as hell!! and that is right up my alley!;) Waiter was prompt, and gave descriptions of what each item on the menu we asked about. Las Cazuelas is right by the park where I play softball. It's a quick, affordable spot to grab a bite when coming home after my games. From the outside, it is a bit sketchy. The lot is busted up and there are random people just milling around everywhere. I'd recommend the buddy system. Still, the inside is not bad. They have a decent sized bar area and there is a ton of seating. It's quite nice. I've been here three times and the food is weak. It's hard to mess up tortillas with meat, cheese, and beans, but they get close. On my last visit, my wife ordered a cheese burrito with red sauce. She basically got a tortilla that was covered in cheese dip. I had the nachos and they were pretty good. One item did make me a bit nervous. We found part of a chip in the salsa. Are they reusing salsa from other tables? Don't think about it. People watching here is interesting. Nolensville Road has quite a culture and it it is on display in full effect at the little Mexican joint. Las Cazuelas is ok. It's not the greatest Mexican spot around, but it will do the job in a pinch. I generally like all non-chain Mexican restaurants about the same, but this one is a notch below most. read more

Las Cazuelas is one of many, many Mexican restaurants on Nolensville Rd. I've been to about a dozen of them - most of which are hole in the walls - and this is the one I find myself returning to... every week. We come here every Friday night and we haven't found a reason yet to break tradition. The food is outstanding - probably the best Mexican I've found in town. One member of our group claims it's the best he's ever had, but - as a Texan - I can't endorse that opinion. By this point, I've tried most of the menu. Nothing has disappointed yet. For the hungry - I recommend the fajita quesadilla. It's a huge, well stuffed quesadilla that always satisfies. Or for the timid, feel free to split it into two meals. For the budget conscious - go for the chicken tacos. Though it's an appetizer, I've had this as my meal several times. $5 for a huge plate of chicken nachos that is never easy to finish. And fulfilling a major requirement of Mexican restaurants, the margaritas are great too. A few pitchers around the table works every time. If there's a downside, it's the service. They're not terribly fast, and they get orders wrong with surprising frequency; though, they're pretty quick with chips and salsa refills, which helps alleviate the long wait for food. And now that we've become regulars, they always seem to enjoy us. Others might see the noise level as a drawback, but I love it. It is always loud here, as there are typically several large groups seated around the restaurant. And starting at 9:00 on Friday nights, they've got karaoke, which is LOUD. For a great group place and good mexican in general, Las Cazuelas does exactly what it needs to. The quality of food and group accessibility more than makes up for any shortcomings it may have. read more
