This family restaurant brings something different to the neighborhood. It's worthy of a visit, clean and quaint inside. Seems comfy with coffee shop/meetups vibe, with a few small tables to enjoy a hand made empanada. It appears to be a family ran business with pleasant service, quiet environment and a DIY water dispenser. The food seemed authentic, flavor profiles I'm not familiar with (green beans on a sandwich)?! I was surprised how well it worked. Although a little juicy, the sandwich hit the spot with homemade bread, a little crispy outside and the perfect crunch of Serrano peppers inside. The shredded beef empanada was jam packed with meat! I didn't see the cheese until the last few bites, but it was enjoyable with the added pico de gallo for flavor. The filling to pastry ratio is nonsensical--how the lightly crisp outer shell holds in that much meat... Perfection. Very worthwhile stop, if you're in the area. You can tell there is love in this place, their food is all the evidence you need. EDITED TO ADD: I brought home two empanadas (chicken/mushroom and shredded beef) for the hubs. 30 seconds in the microwave and these were a hit for him! Hubs and I went to check this place out last Friday. The cashier was very nice and the items on the menu were extremely varied. They have a lot of empanadas, sandwiches, and desserts to chose from. The beef empanada was a little salty but in general we enjoyed our food and want to go back and try other items. read more

The small, nicely decorated room has original art on the walls that's for sale. Music is various covers in new age style, but understated. There are some soft furnishings for enjoying coffee and pastries plus seven small sets of tables and chairs. The counter person was friendly and answered questions about the simple menu. An interesting selection of pastries are displayed and a posted coffee menu with lattes etc. We ordered three empanadas and a dessert. Drinks are canned soda and sparking water, but there's also a free still water dispenser. I had the beef empanada and Bookguy ordered one shrimp and one with chicken and mushrooms. They are only $5 each, so not huge, but enough. One plus 1/2 of the brazo de reina slice filled me up. Bookguy was happy having two, but he didn't care for the one with shrimp because it was crunchy--not what he expected. I liked the beef empanada except for the olive. We shared the brazo de reina which proved to be delicious. The room was a bit chilly, pardon the pun, since the food is Chilean. I plan to come back for coffee and another pastry...or two. read more

Drove by days ago and eyed the sidewalk sign. Decided to return one day. That day came and I grabbed a takeout order: the 3 empanadas + soda, $14. Added the special shrimp empanada, $7. All four empanadas were delicious. The shrimp was my favorite followed by the breakfast one with scrambled eggs, chicken and then beef. Would have loved a side option (e.g. beans). I also wanted more pebre salsa. Menu includes sandwiches, but may be hard to skip the empanadas once you've tasted them. Also has coffees and desserts. It has that coffee shop relaxation vibe. Very nice, clean interior. Service was very friendly. Highly recommended. read more

This place is a gem . I have drove past and thought I need to stop , finally did today . Only thing I'm upset about is that I didn't stop earlier . The empanadas were great . I had both the breakfast and Beef and also enjoyed a coffee . The service was top notch , the food is delicious and hand made and the cappuccino hit the spot . Las Chilenas is a really nice cafe with a large selection of delicious foods. I love the empanadas most, from the chicken to the caprese. They also have Chilean sandwiches that are delicious. I could tell that the place was very authentic from the feel and the fact that it was so comfortingly tasty. The servers at the counter are always very friendly and helpful. Las chilenas was a terrible experience both times I went. I waited over an hour for an order of 5 empanadas while the only people in the cafe were a couple that ordered after me and who I'm assuming are the owners family. I was not offered any sauce to eat the empanadas with and when I asked I was charged an extra $8 for a small Tupperware of the saltiest pico I have ever had which they call pebre. It was so bad my stomach hurt for the rest of the day. I LOVE supporting small businesses, but this left me greatly disappointed. The second time I went I got frozen empanadas which I do feel were overpriced for something I would have to heat till cooked myself and they were "special" costing me an extra $1 for each. The flavor was just salt in the shredded beef filling. The server was offering me the wrong change when I payed and argued with me about it when I tried to correct her. Then laughed it off when I counted out loud with her. It all felt very confusing and rude. I asked her for a bag with my purchase and she went in the back to look for over 10 minutes. If you are looking for empanadas I would recommend some local vendors at the farmers market downtown or in aksarben on the weekends. Las chilenas was a huge let down especially because there are very few places to find empanadas in Omaha. Rub in aksarben also has some empanadas that are bigger for a better price and includes your choice of dipping sauce. This place is simply not worth it. read more

I have been waiting for a Chilean restaurant to pop up in Nebraska my whole life. You will not be disappointed. Empanadas are authentic and just how I remember them from Chile. Lovely staff that are so welcoming, especially to a paisano :) I recommend the chicken mushroom empanada, while not super traditional, they have amazing taste and texture as well as the beef (very traditional) Make sure to also load up on pastries like the milhojas, Chileans do sweets really well. 10/10 Thank you for finally bringing a piece of home to my other home.
