First time trying and I would just say it was okay. There was nothing that stood out and I tried three different sandwiches, a chili, and the cake. The chili was too spicy for me, and very oily. I didn't eat it. The cake was okay, but tastes like any cake out of the box you can make yourself. As far as the sandwiches go, one of my favorite sandwiches is a chicken salad, there's was not my favorite at all. I think the white bread is very bland, the chicken chunks were huge but they also had nothing else but chicken and mayonnaise in it. It was a very bland sandwich overall. The French dip was not very good either, the au jus was almost tasteless and didn't add any flavor to the sandwich. Lastly I had the castle gandolfo, it wasn't bad but for somewhere known for their pastrami I wasn't blown away either. Was it terrible? No. But would I go out of my way to have it again? Also no. I probably won't be back and feel like I wasted $50 on sandwiches I was excited to try which really turned out to be mediocre at best. read more

I've been eating at Gandolfo's for several years now. I first discovered Gandolfo's by Baxter Arena, but have since eaten at all the locations. The food quality is always very high, filling, and delicious! On this particular day, I went with my dad and two of my older children. When you first walk into Gandolfo's, you'll notice the menu. It's massive - takes up the whole wall and must have at least 60-80 items or so. It's sorted by meat to make it easier, along with a recommendation on whether the sandwich is better hot or cold. You can also order all sandwiches as a 6" or a 12" (even though I think the sandwiches are bigger than that). Gandolfo's also allows you to make it a combo and add a chip, side, or dessert plus a drink. The sides vary but they have potato salad, a broccoli and cheddar salad, and others. On this trip, I got a cookie and everybody else took the chips. Even though I didn't get it this time, the salads are pretty good. My son got the Godzilla, a spicier sandwich which includes turkey, chicken breast, pepper jack, lettuce, tomato, jalapenos, onions, mayo, and sriracha sauce. This is my son's and wife's go to order EVERY time they come. They never get anything different. It's weird (because of all the choices), but miraculous because the sandwiches are that good! My dad got the French dip, which comes with provolone, mayo, and au jus. Simple, but also pretty good. He actually couldn't finish it so I had some and it was good. Tender, juicy, with just the right amount of seasoning! I got the New Yorker, which actual was the first time I've ever gotten it, but it didn't disappoint either. It comes with roast beef, pepper jack, feta, lettuce, tomato, onion, banana peppers, butter, mayo, oil and vinegar (I removed the last two). Wow, it was better than I imagined. I had hoped to get a unique flavor from the feta and banana peppers and it was really good. No wonder it's considered one of the specialty sandwiches. My daughter got the Mac and cheese from the kids menu.... Nothing spectacular, but I don't think your expectations can be that high on kids menu mac and cheese. But in reality, everything I've ever tried is good here. And if you're looking for something besides traditional deli subs, they also have breakfast sandwiches all day, hot dogs, and others. On this particular visit, the person helping in the lobby was amazing. Our receipt said "Kevin C"and I hope that's who it was, because he deserves recognition. He was very friendly and outgoing, helping people decide on the menu and answering questions about sandwiches. The group in front of us and my daughter hadn't eaten there before and he helped them right along. Super friendly too and spectacular customer service! I overheard one exchange when a mother mentioned to him that her daughter had ordered pop and probably should of got milk. The mother said "but it's OK" to which he replied, "No, it's not" and that she should have milk. He went to the back and got the girl her milk and she started eating her cookie. Kevin was wonderful all around and is an asset here. If you come to Gandolfo's, the food will be awesome and you will get full. And if you get Kevin assisting you, it really is a jackpot! How have I lived here my entire life and waited this long to visit is beyond me! This place is not too far from my house and is located centrally in Omaha just off I-80 and Pacific street. My son and I decided to stop by Gandolfo's for dinner. I ordered the pastrami on rye and my son ordered the tri Borough bridge. My pastrami was served warm. The taste was bland. The portion size was as expected. I was not impressed. It reminded me of Arby's sandwich at twice the price. I would not order it again . My son liked his sandwich. He would order it again. Great sandwich shop! I'm from Philly, transplanted in Omaha. When tasked with finding lunch for the office, my colleague mentioned Gandolfo's, and they did not disappoint. I wanted hoagies, and we got hoagies! Everything was fresh and delicious and plentiful! I'd heard some really good things about Gandolfo's so I think it was fair to say my expectations were heightened. Unfortunately they were having some kind of problem with their cash register yesterday which didn't get things off on the right foot, considering we had to wait in line for 15 minutes... Yes, at a counter deli. Luckily their menu is totally overwhelming (wait...) so we had time to browse that at leisure. Then, after swiping and punching in my card number by hand, I was told it was expired. I checked my watch, but it's definitely not 05/2012 yet so I don't think that was the problem. Anyway I had to get out another card and do through the whole process again. By the time I'd finished paying my sandwich was already ready, so I guess that was the silver lining. At about $8 for a sandwich, chips and soda it seemed kind of expensive considering I got the 'small' sandwich, which ended up reminding me of a knockoff of a certain 'freaky fast' sandwich shop, with better bread but sup-par fillings. Something was off with my chips too, which I can't really blame on Gandolofo's since technically they were still a couple of weeks away from the expiration date... My husband and I are here visiting from Texas. My husband loves him a good Rueben sandwich and that's one thing Omaha is known for, so I searched on Google for the best Rueben sandwich in Omaha and Gandolfo's popped up. When we arrived, we were quickly greeted with a very sweet smile and hello. They have a huge menu with over fifty sandwiches to choose from. I had a few questions and the sweet lady taking our order was very eager to help with questions and suggestions. Gandolfo's is what I would consider pretty standard in terms of sandwiches. We tried two sandwiches: Pastrami and what was basically a Ruben. Neither sandwich I would say blew my mind away; typical salty deli sandwiches. That being said beyond the salt I feel like lacked in flavor and mine was really greasy. (the Ruben) The place was pretty clean and not too busy. The staff were nice although when asked for a menu suggestion the guy looked like a deer in the headlights. This place is lucky that I don't really care much about service when giving my star rating. The little kid at the counter acted like he was doing me a favor by taking my order. The sandwich was warm, though I would have preferred a more toasted rye. The corned beef was thinly sliced and fresh. The sauerkraut was fresh, crisp and not too overpowering. The interior is modern and clean looking, and very NYC-centric. There are TONS of sandwich options (it must have been over 50), all with hip names. Location is great at 120th & Pacific.
