The service was A1. The place looks clean from what I can tell, and the food was good. I got white rice, stewed Spanish-style beans, Spanish-style roast shredded pork, and a beef and cheese empanada with my favorite childhood drink, Malta India. The beef and cheese empanada was my only complaint; although it's beef and cheese, I felt like it didn't have any cheese. But everything else was top-tier, and the portion sizes were on point. Took a while to be back on The Burg and was really looking forward to try some of their food. And oh man it was worth the wait. So far I'm obsessed with their Goat dish it's delicious since I'm from a town that swears by Goats they can really cook an awesome dish, their Ox Tail is super good and on point. Rice with Gandules it's always great. And also their beef and queso empanadas are soooo good. So far I haven't tried anything that I don't like and they keep me coming back for more can't complain. Don't judge it's place by it's parking lot. It does look a little sketchy from the outside but the inside is filled with smells of deliciousness! It's a very basic place. You walk up to the counter, pick what you want and pay for it. There is a menu with the day's special. Each day changes a little but they always have their basic items. My husband and I always go for the roasted pork with rice and beans. They ask if you want extra juice (which you do) to go over your rice. Each meal alone weighs about 4 lbs. Usually, there is enough for 2 people to each for lunch or 1 hungry person. I shared mine with my son who is a big eater and there was still some left over. We always order a beef and cheese empanada. You'll regret not ordering it. You might not have room for it but it heats up easily. Just put it in a toaster oven and you're set! It's filled with flavorful ground beef and warm cheese. They do offer coupons on a couple websites so check it out. Very nice people run this place! read more

Spanish-American food! But to me it would be better to say Spanish-Latin American. If you're looking for Tapas, this is not the place. I honestly got more of a Puerto Rico/Dominican Republic feel from the place - heavy on the Dominican. I don't know anything about the owners, I'm just basing it on the food. Hey, they have Morir Sonando which is Dominican (or at least I think that it is). I ate here for lunch today with two toddlers in tow. It was really, really good. The guy behind the counter was very, very nice. I love Latin American food! I ordered four fried chicken wings (whole ones) for $4.00 just in case the kids didn't like the Spanish food. They loved the Spanish food and the wings so it was a win-win situation all the way around. I ordered mostly off of the ala carte section because I wanted to try a few things. We ordered two Pastelillos (meat stuffed pastries) but I should have ordered 10. They were soooo good. The pastry was light and incredibly tasty. For $1.25 each you can make a meal out of three and barely make a dent in the wallet. All three of us at the table were eating them quickly. I'd go there just for those. I even ditched my usual low-carb approach so that I could eat waaay more than one bite. I would love to know what goes into that crust. We also tried the Platanos Rellenos (stuffed plantain) which was sweet and savory. The plantain was cooked prefectly and it was filled with the same ground beef mixture that was in the Pastelillos. For our sides I ordered Tostones Verde (fried green plantains) and Maduros (sweet plantains). Both were good. The Tostones didn't come with any sauce and they were a little thick and bland. Something spicy would have been the perfect addition. The Maduros were soooo good they were almost like dessert. Speaking of dessert, I ordered flan which was dense and custardy, sweet and eggy. Perfect. Not too sweet, but definitely sinful. With three bottled waters, it came to about $19.00, but I can't figure out how he got that number because when I add it up based on the menu numbers it's less. Perhaps prices have gone up? Perhaps I was taken for more than the meny prices? I don't know, but it was very, very tasty and very, very authentic. This is not sexy food. It is good food. Their menu has about 6-7 specials every day. Specials run about $7.00. The highest price on the menu I have in front of me is $7.50. I am dying to go back - even the left overs I had for dinner were good. They even have 85 cent coffee listed on the menu. The atmosphere is basic and a little shabby. But the space is large, there is parking in the lot out front, and the place was filled with diners who ordered in spanish, talked in spanish, and ate in spanish. Probably only 3.5 stars but I rounded up due to the very nice proprietor! I came here over the weekend because I have been watching the City of Men movie and television series (Brazilian) on Netflix and they kept making these little meat pies. Although Las Delicias is not a Brazilian place, I kept thinking about Amy's and Brian's reviews about the pastelillos so I made the trip. I was pleasantly surprised by how large the space was (it looked like a converted diner perhaps?) and it seemed pretty clean. The woman behind the counter was a doll and explained to me what all the different dishes were. Do not come here if you are looking for vast variety as it appears that Las Delicias has specials every day of the week (closed on Sundays). I tried the pastelillo which was very good. It is a meat pie that is less dense than an empanada with a lighter, deep fried crust and ground beef filling. I also had the stuffed plaintain balls which were also quite good; ground beef in the center surrounded by a ball of ground plantain that is then deep fried. I could not decide between the roasted pork or ribs (since it was Saturday) so the very nice lady suggested that I split my entrees. The pork was delicious and the ribs were very tender and both served with a generous side of the spanish rice. I have no idea how authentic this cuisine was because I don't often go out for Latin. I can tell you that it was very tasty. But be warned, this is not for the calorie consious. Everything was either deep fried or oily (due to the nature of the pork and ribs) but of course, I did not mind! read more

In a word, this place is authentic! My girlfriend and I finally tried this spot out for dinner last night and we both agreed that the food was just incredible. While the place isn't much to look at, it's nice enough inside to enjoy a great meal and the staff that works there is extremely friendly. And while the food is completely authentic, the menu is also in English so don't worry about that! After reading a review from Amy G., we decided to start with two pastelillos which were just amazing, and following those we tried a stuffed plantain that was equally as delectable. If you've never tried either of those items, pastelillos are crunchy pastries filled with beef and stuffed plantain is a fried plantain that tastes much like a sweet banana, filled with beef - trust me it's delicious. That really would have been enough for dinner but we figured the leftovers would be just as good the second time so we also ordered two meals. I got the pork with yellow rice and beans and my counterpart ordered the chicken with white rice and beans on the side. Both meals were really incredible, very authentic Spanish-American food. I took the opportunity to try a curious drink to go along with my meal which I have mixed feelings about - Malta Goya. I've seen it around and just figured it was some sort of cola or something but as the woman behind the counter explained to me- it's more like a very sweet beer, not anything like soda. It's actually made from molasses and indeed extremely sweet and malty, fun to try once but I'm not sure I'll be bringing home a case from the grocery store anytime soon. At any rate, Las Delicias more than lives up to it's name, the food was really incredible. They do take credit cards in case you were curious, the prices are pretty cheap and the portions are quite generous. You'd do yourself a favor by trying it for yourself. read more

This is authentic Latin home cooking. With a few specials available per day, it seems that the food is made fresh daily and then held for service. With most of their food, I don't think that's an issue, for example, the roast chicken that I ordered was perfectly cooked to excellent tenderness. The seasoned skin was delicious but not crispy. With chicken, that's okay. The pernil, the classic Puerto Rican roast pig, was tender, falling apart and perfectly spiced but I found myself wishing I'd gotten it as soon as it came out of the oven because then I'd have gotten that excellent skin when it crunched. Don't let it put you off going to Delicias. The food was amazing. The spanish rice that came as a side had a full, tomato-y flavor. The proprietor asked if I wanted "gravy" on the rice and I wasn't sure what she was offering. I told her to do whatever she would do and she poured some of the gravy from the day's chicken stew on top. It was heavenly. I also had the tostones-- a good sized plate of fried plantains was brought out to us with a little cup of a salty, garlicky sauce she called "mojito." I literally wanted to drink it when I was done. The restaurant itself has a strange sort of vibe. It's in a small, run-down strip mall. The inside is decorated with what I think is stone facing and the plastic booths are made of lime green plastic that are showing their age. Still, I was there at 2:30 pm, and it was still busy, with people coming in and going out the whole time we were there. The proprietor was SO NICE, describing all of the options. After living in the area over ten years, I finally made the drive to Las Delicias several months ago! I'm so glad I did. I have since returned several times and always walk out with large orders of food. This is Dominican food at its best. I have tried their beef stew with carrots and potatoes, etc. Also, tried their roasted chicken and the catfish stew. All very good. I like to take any leftovers for lunch at work. Pretty much everything is delicious, just like their name. The desserts are also good. Be sure to try the Tres leches cake, with three different kinds of milk. You've got to try it for yourself - truly unique. The ladies behind the counter are very helpful and friendly and answer any questions I might have. A nice gem in the Harrisburg area. read more

Stopped in for dinner with my wife. I had intended to dine in the restaurant but the front door while it did have a short ramp was not wide enough for the wheelchair. Also the door didn't open the whole way. Inside is only booths. So if you require a chair it will not work. So we decided to get takeout. I got the Pernil (Roast Pork) $7.50 - Came with White Rice and Beans My wife had Pernil Sandwich $6.50 - Had garlic/mayo type spread on it Also got Relleno de Papas (Potato Balls) $1.50 Tostones Verde (Fried Green Plantains) $2.50 I thought the meal was good. I felt the Tostones could have been crisper but they were in Styrofoam for 15 mins on the way home so may have steamed a little. Still very good. I miss a salsa type sauce for them though. Potato Balls were different. Tasty. Very large. Basically its a meat center with a mashed potato like ball around it. Then fried till outside is crispy. My wife liked her sandwich but got a large clump of garlic at one point that kind of overloaded her. She said it would have been better there as the roll got steamed allso on the way home. Was busy and they seemed to have a lot of regulars. The staff greeted many by name and even hugged a few children. I wish I could have gone in. Read the reviews and decided to try it out. I had the pernil (roasted pork) with arroz con guandules (rice with pigeon peas) and tostones (green plantains). I introduced my co-worker to Puerto Rican food at Las Delicias and he had the same plate except he had maduros (sweet plantains). The food was delicious. The arroz con guandules was spot on just like at home you taste the peas in the rice itself even if you took a taste with no peas on your fork. The pernil was tender and very tasty and nicely seasoned. I will agree with one of the reviews that the tostones could have had a bit more crunch to them but that didn't stop me form enjoying them. I will be going back since I travel quite a bit to Harrisburg. read more

I left my home in Miami almost 5 years ago and if it's one thing I've missed (besides family, friends, heat, beaches, and beautiful people), it's some wonderful, home-cooked Latin food. This place was one of my greatest finds. Whether I have to satisfy a craving for juicy shredded pork, or need a huge plate of rice and beans to comfort me, this place hits the spot. It may be on par with a hundred other Latin restaurants in Miami, but it's one of a kind up here in Harrisburg. Fantastic food! Really good food, best in the area but I am here 20 before closing and they are steady covering up the food to put it away and told me that there is nothing left. As I am writing my review it is 8:20 pm and they locked the door and ran out the side door to their cars. If you close at 8pm then don't display an 8:30 close. That's bad business.
