Food quality is absolutely terrible. The chicken was very dry, overly spiced and the price was outrageous for the amount of food that you got. I asked for a glass of water and they refused to give me a glass of water.. they tried to tell me you must several dollars for bottle of water.. the lady at the counter was extremely rude. $25 for one simple dinner and this is a fast food place. It is not a full Service restaurant. I can go to Cooper Hawk or any other nice place for that price. The food at Pita Pita is amazing. Very tender chicken and a delicious Mediterranean lemon sauce which prevents it from being so dry and the amount of food that you get is much better for $10 less.. poor service, poor food quality, and ridiculously high prices do not make for a successful restaurant. . read more

I ate too fast to let the camera get the first bite, but I was able to catch a few photos of the restaurant and outside. Here's what I can tell you... this is the equivalent of the Mediterranean chipotle and it's a stunner. The shawarma, falafel, and all the various toppings like baba ghanoush, hummus, tabouli salad, cucumber yogurt salad, and tahini salad were flavorful, fresh, and a great complement to any of the dishes. The house made baklava was good, though my wife thought it was a little dry for her taste. I loved it. The crew here were also very patient, especially since we had a ton of questions. I found my new shawarma and chicken skewers restaurant. The decor is very simple but I do not mind that. The restaurant and kitchen area look very clean and organized. I was greeted right away by very friendly staff. The chicken shawarma plate comes with two different rices with shawarma meat on top, hummus, tomato and cucumber salad, pitas and a drink. The chicken skewers plate has the same. All of the food was delicious, fresh and flavorful! Maybe add a little more shawarma meat. There was plenty of grilled chicken. The pitas and tortillas are tasty. And I finally found a yummy garlic sauce, so good! I even liked their hot sauce. Spicy but not too much and a unique flavor. I will be back to try some other options. The menu is quite large. I was there on a Sunday afternoon and there was a constant stream of customers. You should check them out. read more

Incredible gem in the heart of Elgin's downtown. Got their chicken tawook wrap and it was amazing! Since it's pretty rare to find tawook aside from the south burbs, I specifically came for that and was not disappointed. The staff is friendly and helpful. The ambiance is laid back and very casual. Would highly recommend as a take out or a casual place to drop in if you're in the area and want high quality middle eastern food. read more

Very friendly and very cute place. Food was very delicious. I got the 3 meats dinner. Love the chicken, I like how they give you two types of rice. Pita was good and the falafels were too good. I like the humus. My pop was warm though, that sucked BUT it was good. Can't wait to come back, they also have a gelato store next to them. The Gelato was so good. I am just happy we finally have a mediterranean restaurant here. Because Larsa's moved and now they are not as good. SOOO hope you guys stay here forever! read more

There has been exciting news of a new Shawarma joint that opened up in the area and boy was I excited. Previously if you wanted to eat shawarma you'd have to go to the westside of Elgin on Randall Rd to Pita BBQ or you had to drive yourself out to Hoffman Estates/Palatine to Pita Pita or if you really really really wanted it you'd drive out to Schaumburg to Pita House or Falafel Hut and as you can see I know my shawarma joints. I arrived on a Sunday right after they opened and I was hungry! You walk in and are met by a black and white tile floor and screens that are supposed to show the menu but they were off, I assumed they were not working this day. I did a quick scan of the paper menu and decided I wanted the Shawarma beef & chicken mixed plate. I got a coke with my order and it come to about $19 after taxes. I sat down and took in the ambiance and it's on par on to what you'd expect from a Elgin downtown restaurant. Shortly after, my food arrived. I noticed they didn't include any white or red sauce with my meal, it was alright I guess, they already covered my food in white sauce. I went in for my first bite of both chicken and beef and I was underwhelmed. You could only taste hints of the shawarma seasoning and it just wasn't enough for me. I went back up and asked for some type of hot sauce and they delivered. The hot sauce is SPICY. That's what was missing from my meal. Only after adding the hot sauce I started to enjoy my meal. They serve warm pita bread with hummus and that was delicious. As well as a side salad, that was fresh and good. Overall the meal was just OK for me and going forward I'd like to give Shawarma Stop another chance but I'd try something different like a wrap or bowl with the gyro meat. Overall, I'm happy to have Shawarma Stop in the neighborhood as ethic restaurants like these are few and far between. I'd like to give them 3.5 stars as I can't officially give half stars in Yelp. read more

The restaurant and accompanying ice-cream/crape/tea shop are connected inside. Great location downtown Elgin. The food was delicious and I ate at both the restaurant, and after grabbed some gelato. The portions were nice sized and I had the combo plate with beef and chicken. Very tasty. The desert menu was extensive with a European flair. I'm giving this restaurant 4 out of 5 stars due to the following reasons. You order at the counter and are provided a pager when you food is ready, going back up to pick it up. Despite this, the tip button comes up when ordering. Not sure what I'm tipping for, as there is no service. Food is served in Styrofoam container even if you're eating there. Sodas were generic. These wouldn't matter too much, had the prices reflected those things. For that meal, before I added on dessert at their sister business, it was $25.00 plus tip. The restaurant could use a good fresh coat of paint and there was very low heat with none in the washrooms. Not so much fun in January. I would still suggest giving this spot a try as the food is great and not the typical run of the mill type of entrees offered. read more

I got the mixed grill combo that comes with hummus, 2 types of rice, salad, grilled veg and obvious home made pita. The meat was seasoned well, cooked tender and just delicious. Generous portions served in take out boxes. They offer off brand soda and do not have unsweetened ice tea. They do have bottled water. You order at the counter and I assumed they brought your meal to your table. I assumed wrong so not sure what the tip was for. Older restaurant in an eclectic building. There is a crepe / gelato venue attached / accessible from this restaurant with some delicious looking offerings. You walk up two stairs with no handrail in case that is an issue - not handicapped accessible. I would eat here again but my dining companion was not a fan. He would rate this a 2.5. Sad this place was a bad experience my first and last time in here. Four of us came in for lunch and ordered at the counter. Even though the place was fairly empty mid afternoon it was a very long wait for our food. Two of us got our food and two of us did not. After waiting even longer and then inquiring about their order they were handed a to go bag (? we were dining in) and it wasn't even their ordered!! Once we all had our food, it was disappointing, one order was incorrectly prepared, and my beef swarma was the weirdest tasting one I've ever had... dry and basically...ugh! My wife and I stopped in to try their shawarma and falafel at lunchtime the other day. The staff after taking our order, had to confirm off of chat cards on how to build the sandwich and to our disappointment, instead of shaving the meat from a spit, the shaved chicken was pulled from a plastic bin akin to what you would see at a Subway. but it was drier. The build of the sandwich was ok as you head to eat your way to the dried chicken through all the deliciousy flavored pickled veggies. The falafal was overcooked and dry. no matter how much tzatziki sauce you dredged it through. You may want to give them a little time yet before you visit toLet them correct their shortcomings. read more

This place is definitely one in Elgin you want to support! Our daughter in college got a job there because a family friend said the food was amazing. There's a hardworking group there (owners?) that are working tirelessly to build that place and the crepe place up next door. They have been so kind to our daughter. Tonight our daughter brought home some food and we finally got to try it. Wow! You know the crispy meat when it's charred just right--that's what you're getting. And the garlic sauce is addictive! Everything had huge flavor, even the hummus. Our 12-year-old son gave it an A+. Please support Shawarma Stop and the soon to be opened crepe place next door. We don't have too many of these fast food-type eating places in Elgin where the food taste is amazing and healthier for us AND the owners are working hard to make their small business viable in our community. Saturday late lunch. The food was tasty, got the mixed grill plate: chicken, steak, and Kefta. Chicken was outstanding (moist and flavorful), steak was good just a little bit tough, Kefta was good but not as flavorful as I have had elsewhere (ie Larsa's kitchen). Hummus is tasty. Nice clean atmosphere. Not cheap, but not terribly expensive. Potions are adequate. Would go back especially for the chicken. read more

Elgin's downtown has a great new restaurant featuring shawarma and other Mediterranean specialties. Today is its grand opening - and from the start they are providing a variety of delicacies. We loved the mixed grill with generous portions of shawarma and kebabs. My first time eating here was today, I ordered the Beef Shawarma on a pita. The place was very clean and the service was fast and efficient. I found the beef shawarma to be tasty but a little too dry, so I added the tahini sauce to moisten it up. On my out, I saw him building a beef schwarma wrap, which is a bigger sandwich. Next time that I came back here,,I will order the wrap instead of the pita. read more
