On my top 5 list of Mexican restaurants near my home. Every time I come, I am always greeted with smiles and get a warm welcome. My favorite thing about this restaurant is there Pick menu for lunch. You get A Pick 2 or 3 which is either a burrito, enchilada, tostada, quesadilla or taquito with rice and beans. I usually get the pick 2 and have a ton of food to take home after. The quesadilla is so good along with the chicken tostado which are my faves. My daughter usually gets the chicken fingers and French fries, or the corn dog and rice. You must try the cheese dip! My family dined at this restaurant this past weekend. We had fajitas for 2 and my husband had an order of fajitas. We also ordered a table side guacamole (which we never received). Waitress said she would bring us out guacamole on her but we were charged for it. When our fajitas came out we each received 3 wraps for them, mind you they were taco sized wraps. When my husband asked the waitress about the wraps she said this is the size we offer. And if we wanted more we would have to pay for them. Also the waitress said she is 6 of them with her fajitas. Came back after being here years ago after moving back to the area and it has CHANGED!!! Used to be our Mexican go-to when we were living in Willow Grove. I want to start off by saying that the manger was super awesome & took a reservation for our party of 9, the day before. I honestly did not think they took reservations but it was awesome to walk in and have a table set and ready for us. I have been to this location a handful of times, mostly on weekends & it was insanely busy. I was surprised to see that it was not super crowded or busy. Our server was amazing and on top of everything, especially being a larger party. We started out with two pitchers of margaritas, one regular and one strawberry. You can get about 4 glasses out of one pitcher. I love how diligent they are with making sure you have plenty of chips and salsa. I ordered my fav, the California tacos, which you get your choice of beef or chicken or you can always do one of each. I got the chicken. This is more or less just like the fajitas but you do not have to make them and instead of it coming with peppers it comes with corn. For some reason they tasted very salty to me, so I would suggest to ask for no added salt. Las Margaritas on 2nd Street Pike, Southampton, PA, isn't bad for a casa Mexicana that serves mainly an American audience not necessarily familiar with the deep choices available in a kitchen that caters to its own nationals. The space is large and dimly lit, with plenty of colorful cues of its South of the Border cultural heritage. It is very popular as witnessed by the long wait for people walking in looking for a table. Luckily, as a solo diner, I was able to grab a barstool and take my liquid and solid choices right there. I have been somewhat spoiled by the wide variety and authenticity of all the casas Latinas in and around Trenton, which has become a very ciudad Centro Americano. All those formerly Italian corner restaurants now speak Espanol, and they put out amazing cuisine. Still, Las Margaritas is a good place for a reasonably priced cocktail by the same name, and the well known dishes found in most Mexican houses catering to gringos. Lots to choose from in terms of nachos, tacos, burritos, chimis, and tortas, and even a few decent dinner platters, like the chili rellenos ordered by me. I found the two large breaded and fried poblano peppers to be nicely loaded with melted cheese and queso fresco, and topped with a thin, but well spiced, ranchero sauce. I tossed on the salsa from the chips to add texture and heat, and enjoyed the refried beans and dirty rice accompaniments. Not a bad meal at all. Bartender service was fine and muy amable. The only hiccup was being tendered the wrong cuenta for a couple of bucks more than what I ordered. El hombre tried to tell me it was the same price as what I got, but I knew that was not the case. I've been here a bunch and I love it. Mostly for their margaritas which are cheap and good. But I do like their food. My only complaints are: 1) they put too much melted cheese on things and it tastes very milky and not like cheddar 2) the last time I was there I got a big bone in my chicken. I started getting the taco salad and adding chicken because there is no melted cheese. The photo quality looked like I took a picture with like 1900s Nokia) I like how they give you chips and Salsa but even when we asked for no more chips 3 times, they still brought us chips. The place is cute and it's like you were whisked away to an old village in Mexico (not that I know what an old village looks like but I'm hoping Hollywood nailed). The menu. I get the fact that Avocados have double in price to $2.00 and it takes 2 to make a serving of guacamole but give the customer the option to pay an up charge to cover the extra cost. The entire experience was average at best. The server was just going through the motions and quite frankly don't know where she was hiding since the restaurant was half empty. The fajitas were terrible. You could tell the onions and peppers were precooked and reheated. My eyes took in the scenery of the many dining areas from the time I entered until the time I left. High backed colorful booths each with their own scene gave plenty of room and privacy. I started with a margarita which was straight up with salt, it was chilled and went down quicker than I had expected. Las Margaritas has the best authentic Mexican cuisine around and they have two locations! The one in Philly I hear does more of a bar and happy hour scene, you folks need to get down on some really good food. Freshly made tortilla chips are brought to your table immediately with a large cylinder of kicked up house made salsa, although the heat in it has been different each time that I have gone, keep it spicy baby and I'll have another margarita please! I started with a bowl of the tortilla chicken soup, which was a meal sized portion for $3.95, loaded with pieces of chicken and lots of spicy flavor. I'm not a big fan of cilantro but it worked well in this dish and did not take over the flavors. The shrimp cocktail Grande is served in a huge stemmed glass bowl, filled with Pico de gallo, avocado and large shrimps, garnished with lemons and limes, I shall be forever bored with the American version of shrimp cocktail from now on. My husband is stuck on their huge platter of enchiladas supreme, normally you would get one beef, one chicken, one cheese and one bean, but he has all four in beef and they do not even charge extra. The entire platter is then covered with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and sour cream. I have had the Cazuelada sizzling fajitas which consisted of shrimps, chicken, beef and chorizo, with large pieces of sauteed onions, peppers and tomatoes, along side this are warm tortillas, Pico de gallo, guacamole and sour cream. The dish comes with a nice sized portion of Mexican rice and cheese topped refried beans. My eyes screamed yes and I dove in, but soon my belly was saying enough is enough and I ended up getting several meals out of this dish, it was fantastic. Picture the largest oval dinner platter that you can and fill that with the largest over stuffed lump crab and jumbo shrimp quesadilla, which has onions, mushrooms and cheese blended in. Now mind you, this combo is not on their menu, they have shrimp or crab and I was torn, so Rauol, suggested I have both crab and shrimp in one. It came out a bit different than I had expected, but in a good way, instead of mixing the two seafood's together they filled each half with one, which then gave me the right to sample each and then to combine the two! I will definitely order this again. I am anxious to try more and more dishes, it has been too long since I have had good Mexican food. They offer many vegetarian dishes, taco salads with your choice of shrimp, chicken or beef, several fish selections including a whole Tilapia, head, tail, scales and all pan fried. Steaks, Mexican pork or shellfish dishes. If you have to be different they do have burgers and fries, plus they have great lunch specials. Maybe because it has been so long since I have enjoyed good authentic Mexican food, but I am happy to have them so nearby. We have been back several times and in my opinion it is steps above Rey Azteca, which is getting rave reviews and I am not overly impressed with them, it's okay and this Las Margaritas is family owned and not part of a chain.
