We'd been looking for another good Mexican restaurant and friends recommended Provecho Mexican Grill. We drove to Huntingdon Valley and among warehouses and storage complexes, we turned into Provecho. It has a warm atmosphere with Spanish music playing in the background. We ordered the Shrimp Fajitas and the Chicken and Steak Fajitas. The dishes come loaded with freshly grilled red and green bell peppers and onions. The rice is cooked perfectly with a mild seasoning, the guacamole is delicious and has great texture, and last but not least, the pico de gallo was flavor packed! We had all the necessary toppings for our fajitas. The Shrimps were tender and succulent, we rolled them up in the flour tortillas and had some great shrimp fajitas! The Steak and Chicken were cut into thin strips, but were tender and tasty - we proceeded to wrap the slices into another flour tortilla and enjoyed them as well. The only item we didn't eat were the beans - they were too watery with no flavor. It's a small restaurant, but was busy on a Saturday night and filled up fast; we noticed a great deal of people picking up orders. This little place is right on a main road but not easy to spot. The food had to be some the best, authentic Mexican in the area. The quac is absolutely delicious, so fresh and tasty. It comes mild, but you can have them add jalapeño if you want it kicked up. The birria tacos were exactly what you want in this dish. Soft, flavorful beef, plainly dressed with onions, cilantro and cheese. The au jus on the side hit all the right notes. It was good enough to drink. The fajitas had homemade corn or tortillas on the side. The veggies, steak and shrimp were slightly charred and cooked to perfection. The service was quick and friendly. We've always liked the food here but hadn't ordered in a long time. My wife called in the order for pickup, she could not understand the person on the phone. They weren't foreign they just mumbled and didn't speak clearly. When we got our order we were charged for all the sides that used to be free, sour cream, guacamole, salsa and $3.50 for a small bottle of soda. A simple meal that used to cost $20 is now $31. Like I previously said the food is good but prices have gone way up and I think the portions are much smaller. Provecho contacted me about this review. They were kind beyond imagination. They said we shouldn't have been charged for the sides, they are included with what we ordered. We never asked for sides in the first place, we assumed they'd come with the meal like they always did. They offered to refund the charge for the sides, hopefully they will. Updating from 3 to 4 stars. Exceptional service. Tasty food, fast and kind service. Nice ambiance with music playing at a medium level. Started with the macho nachos with carne asada. The chips had great flavor on their own. They appeared to be house made. The carne asada was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The toppings were spread around the entire nachos so no need to reach over if you wanted guacamole or sour cream. Tacos de maíz were on the larger size with a decent portion of meat. Topped with the classic cilantro and onion and one of the other tacos came with a corn topping. Al pastor and carnitas were delicious. Carnitas were definitely the best. The sope with steak was the dish we enjoyed the least. However, we ended with the sope so we were plenty full by this point. Only real complaint, none of the salsas were spicy. This was our first time ordering from Provecho and I was pleasantly surprised! We ordered via DoorDash and the food arrived warm and fresh. Overall, everything was delicious. We got a chicken tinga burrito bowl, tacos, a kids quesadilla, and chips & queso. Everything was delicious with the exception of the shrimp taco. The shrimp felt a bit rubbery and underwhelming. The Tinga and carnitas tacos were both much more flavorful. The kids quesadilla was delicious and we all enjoyed the fresh chips. The queso was basically just a cheese sauce. So I've been here a couple of times (dined in and take out). The last time I ordered was a week ago. I ordered online for pickup and got the chicken tinga nachos (tortilla chips on the side), chicken tinga burrito, and a bunch of sauces. When I got there, they were packing up my order, so I honestly didn't think to check if everything was correct since all the other times, they've followed my notes or request adequately. Once I got home, I realized I never got the chips, and I didn't have anything to eat my "nachos". However, the burrito was enormous and super satisfying. It's a really large portion for one person (well, at least for me). The only downside is that 1/2 of my burrito had a lot of meat and the other half had a lot of rice. So there were times where I had a huge bite of just rice or toppings. Their food is really good and prepared well it's just minute things that are disappointing and could be fixed. And ONCE AGAIN- menu prices are different from what We were charged. It's fine to raise prices but put a note on the menu or advise the patrons when they sit down or order. Excellent food... lots of mistakes when ordering takeout. We order from here almost weekly. There is usually a mistake, or two! Sometimes they forget to put something in the bag. Other times, the order is just wrong. Example: tonight they put raw onions on my wife's taco (ordered it with no onions). If you hate onions, you know that ruins your dinner. Asked for sour cream on the side of a burrito because two family members wanted to share it. One doesn't like sour cream. The burrito came loaded with sour cream. Now dinner is ruined for two people. This happens over and over. I always check the bag because they often leave something out. Now I need to begin literally opening every item to check for accuracy. Provecho (advantage/good fortune) Mexican Grill on Philmont Avenue, Huntingdon Valley, PA, is a decent cafe style Mexican restaurant with a nice vibe, friendly service and kitchen that turns out a limited menu of traditional platas somewhat tempered for the American palette. It is colorful with large wall murals and a few nooks with comfortable chairs and small tables right out of the Salvation Army store. We were there early on a Saturday night, grabbed one of those tables under a mural, and ordered their chicken soup, shrimp fajitas and chicken taquitos. The soup was excellent. Shredded white meat bird, chunky carrots and smaller pieces of onion, it had big flavor from simmering all day long. The fajitas had plenty of medium sized shrimp, well grilled and lightly spiced over slices of peppers and onions. Rice, beans, queso fresca, sour cream and a dollop of creamy guacamole completed the platter. Even with complimentary salsa added (not gratis across the board?!) the flavor was muted, and not the blast of spices and textures expected. The large amount of rice was offset by its blandness, although the refried beans were tasty. The three taquitos were stuffed with chicken, cheese and pepper and topped with the same finish as the fajitas. They were crisply deep fried and looked great. The chicken was again under spiced and even the chipotle salsa was too weak to kick it up to tickle the tongue. I have no problem with charging for chips and salsa, but add on cost for salsa (even homemade variations) is ahead of the curve of acceptable charges for accessories necessary for the fulfillment of the underlying dish. It's like charging for ketchup on your burger, or cream for your coffee. Never saw that in all my time in Mexico, nor in any of the dozens of very good Mexican houses around Montco. Perhaps, they need to do that to keep doors open, but it seemed ungenerous to these guests. read more

I ordered takeout online on a Friday night, expecting it to be busy. They said a little under 40 minutes so I arrived right around then. The takeout/carry out was not exactly a smooth operation, not sure if it was the volume or if that's how they normally are. I ended up waiting an additional 30 minutes once I arrived which wasn't ideal but I really wanted to try their tacos. There seemed to be a few errors so I made sure to check my order before heading home and it was all there minus a side. Upon arriving home the food was all still plenty hot which was awesome. The tacos are not skimpy (I over ordered because I'm used to my fav place that gives very little meat). The pastor tacos were delish and nice and juicy and greasy in the way that pastor always seems to be. I ordered what I thought was chips and guac but it seemed really expensive and when I inquired I learned there's the chips & guac $5 side but if you specify "small" it's a whole different order and price. Luckily the guac is flavorful and fresh and the chips are 10/10 so it won't go to waste. The carnitas tacos were much juicier than standard, more like pulled pork - so not what was expected but not necessarily bad. read more

Wow. Where do I even start... Amy, the owner, what a disappointment to the Mexican community. How do you butcher Mexican food?!? When you look at Amy you will understand why! A disgrace of a restaurant. I came in with my family after a long day, wanted to enjoy dinner in a nice environment. But dont let the environment fool you. When I got there with my family, we were immediately greeted with rude, judgmental stares. We got our starter drinks, and we didn't get any straws. When asked for some straws, it took them 10 minutes to bring them out on a slow day. Same problem with our food. It was slow, but the food took 45 minutes. It wasn't even a big dinner! It was me and my 3 children. The server was an angel though, I don't know her name but may god bless her heart because if it wasn't for her me and Amy would've had some BIG issues. Amy, how about you get out of there? Retire, no? Give this business to someone who actually CARES about their workers. I saw how she treats them. Awful. A shame. I will never come back.
